Get £500 of free accessories when buying a new V-Strom 650

Suzuki is giving buyers of its V-Strom 650 and V-Strom 650XT machines £500 worth of free genuine accessories, until the end of June.

This is in addition to Suzuki’s current 3, 3, 3 offer, which allows customers, with just a £300 deposit, to choose from a three-year HP or PCP deal at just 3% APR representative.

Customers can opt to put their £500 towards a variety of accessories, from luggage – including top boxes, panniers, and tank bags – to protective components such bash plates and engine bars or styling items such as graphics kits and touring screens.

The V-Strom 650 uses Suzuki’s proven 645cc V-twin engine, packed with character and a broad spread of usable torque, and features traction control, low RPM assist, and Suzuki’s easy start system.

New colours for V-Strom 1050 and V-Strom 1050XT revealed

Suzuki has shown the colour options available on its 2021 V-Strom 1050 and V-Strom 1050XT, with bikes arriving in dealerships now.

Launched last year, the range-topping V-Strom 1050XT – which comes complete with three selectable engine maps, traction control with three modes, lean angle-sensitive ABS with two modes, linked brakes with slope and load-dependent control and hill hold, plus cruise control – remains available in the popular orange and white, DR750-inspired livery, but for 2021 it is joined by a classy, steely grey with blue decals and blue and grey seat, completed by blue spoked wheels.

An updated yellow option also features, unashamedly influenced by the firm’s RM-Z motocross range, with a black tank and gold rims. Gold rims also feature on an otherwise all black version, bar subtle grey and gold decals.

The V-Strom 1050 – which uses the same 107PS V-twin engine and many of the same electronics features as the XT but swaps the spokes for cast aluminium wheels and loses the standard fit engine bars and hand guards to come in at £9,999 – is available in a bold red and black livery and a more subtle all black option.

The new-for-2021 colours on the V-Strom 1050XT also apply to the Tour edition, which adds black three piece aluminium luggage as standard with 112 litres of storage space. With an RRP of £12,799 it equates to a saving of £370 over the purchase of the individual items.

Suzuki announces details of new GSX-S1000

After indicating earlier this month that a new GSX-S1000 was on the way, Suzuki has now released details of the 2021 naked, which comes with:

  • A completely new look, with sharp, aggressive new bodywork and futuristic LED lighting design.
  • An updated, Euro 5 compliant 152PS inline four-cylinder engine with a fatter and flatter torque curve, providing a broader spread of power in the low and midrange.
  • New electronics, including a quickshifter and auto-blipper, selectable engine maps and more levels of traction control.
  • A larger fuel tank and new, wider set handlebars.

Styling
Immediately obvious is the new GSX-S1000’s redesigned aesthetic; the bodywork and lighting is completely new, with a focus on sharp, angular, aggressive lines and a powerful stance, with a ‘mass forward’ demeanour.

Available in Suzuki’s traditional metallic triton blue, a new mechanical matt grey, and a stealthy gloss black, it’s streetfighter looks are enhanced with textured radiator shrouds, MotoGP-insipired winglets, and side panels that feature an urban camo-inspired design.

Arguably the most striking visual change is the new, vertically stacked LED headlight. As well as the practical benefits of a new mono-focus LED light source that displays a wide, bright light, the new design of two stacked hexagonal units topped by LED position lights creates a look that is lighter and tighter, and aids the desire for a more aggressive pose. There’s a new LED tail light, too, with both flanked by LED indicators.

Engine
The inline four-cylinder engine in the 2021 GSX-S1000 produces more power and a broader spread of torque in the lower rev ranges to deliver ideal naked sports bike performance. Changes include a new intake and exhaust camshaft, new valve springs, new clutch, and a new exhaust.

Compared to its predecessor, the new GSX-S1000 makes more cumulative torque across the rev range, filling in the dips in the graph with a flatter curve. It revs on to provide increased top end power, too, with peak power 152PS at 11,000rpm.

Thankfully, a new exhaust retains the soundtrack the outgoing model was known for, while aiding in the increase in power and the meeting of Euro 5 emissions requirements with an additional catalytic converter.

New electronic throttle bodies help achieve a more controllable engine response during the initial throttle opening. A new airbox manages to do without an internal separator, reducing intake resistance.

Reduced valve overlap also helps the new GSX-S1000 meet Euro 5 emissions standards, thanks to new a camshaft and revised cam profiles. The changes also aid engine controllability for the rider.

Added controllability and increased performance also comes thanks to Suzuki’s Clutch Assist System. The slipper clutch partially disengages to reduce negative engine torque and mitigate the effect of engine braking when downshifting from high rpm. This helps prevent the rear wheel from locking up or hopping and provides smoother deceleration, enabling the rider to shift down with greater confidence and maintain better control when downshifting into corners.

Adding an assist function increases the clutch’s clamping force under acceleration and thereby allows the use of softer springs while still efficiently transferring torque to the rear wheel, resulting in a lighter lever operation.

Electronics
An advancement over the previous GSX-S1000 comes with an updated suite of electronics, courtesy of Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS).

A new ride-by-wire throttle makes it possible for riders to more accurately and finely control the relationship between throttle actuation and engine response, especially when allied to the new Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) system, with which the new GSX-S1000 is equipped.

SDMS allows riders to choose from one of three engine maps, depending on the riding conditions or their own personal preferences. Modes A-C all deliver the same peak power, but vary the sharpness and immediacy of the delivery, with A mode the sportiest, and C mode delivering the softest power delivery.

Performance is enhanced thanks to a bi-directional quickshifter, which reduces the need to operate the clutch during gear changes or close the throttle on upshifts, or blip it on downshifts.

A new traction control system comprises five modes, while it can also be switched off. Inputs from front and rear wheel speed sensors, and crank, gear, and throttle position sensors feed into the ECU which in turn controls the throttle valve opening, ignition timing, and fuel injection rate, to reduce or prevent wheel spin.

All the information is displayed on an updated and easy-to-read LCD dash.

Topping off the electronics package is Suzuki’s always-handy easy start system – which requires only one prod of the starter button to fire the engine – and low RPM assist, which raises engine speed as the clutch lever is fed out, to aid slow speed control and prevent stalling.

Chassis
The twin-spar aluminium chassis is mated to a rigid, GSX-R-derived swingarm for agile, sporty performance and handling. New, 23mm wider, tapered ‘bars help riders pitch the bike into turns with greater leverage. They are also set 20mm closer to the rider to improve comfort without compromising handling.

Suspension comes in the form of fully-adjustable KYB front forks and a preload and rebound damping adjustable rear shock, with revised settings from the previous iteration. 310mm front discs are paired with Brembo monobloc calipers.

A larger, 19 litre fuel tank and 46.3mpg equates to a tank range of 194 miles. Those miles can be undertaken in greater comfort thanks to a new seat.

Tyres are custom-engineered Roadsport 2 from Dunlop.

Suzuki announces updated Burgman 400

Suzuki has announced details of an updated Burgman 400, with the now Euro 5 compliant version of the original maxi-scooter boasting traction control, Suzuki’s Easy Start System, and updated instrument cluster, plus changes to its 400cc single-cylinder engine including a new twin-plug cylinder head, piston, and injectors.

Launched in 1998, the Burgman 400 carved out a new market for large displacement scooters, combining comfort, power, style, and practicality. Updated for the 2006 and 2018 model years, the latest iteration further improves on the proven and solid platform.

A revised engine produces well balanced low-midrange torque with improved throttle control, courtesy of a number of changes.

A new twin-plug cylinder head – with simultaneous ignition timing – provides strong power delivery, increases combustion efficiency, and aids fuel consumption. As an added bonus, adjusted ignition timing also results in easier engine startup and a more stable idle. The change additionally contributes to high combustion speed and reduces the possibility of engine knocking in the upper speed range. Consequently, ignition timing can be set to a timing at which power is produced more easily, thereby increasing top speed. A new secondary air pathway helps meet Euro 5 emissions standards.

There are revised cam profiles, and the injectors have changed from 16-hole to 10-hole injectors, resulting in more miniscule fuel droplets and increased air agitation, improving fuel consumption. A new catalytic converter increases the number of catalysts from one to two, further purifying exhaust gases.

One of the biggest changes to the updated Burgman 400 comes in the form of a traction control system, which benefits riding in slippery conditions and pulling away briskly from a complete stop. Meanwhile stopping is helped with a new ABS unit, which is also 36g lighter than the previous unit.

Practicality is maintained through 42 litres of underseat storage, plus an additional 6.3 litres of storage thanks to compartments upfront, the right hand side of which also houses a 12V socket for charging electronic devices.

The addition of Suzuki’s Easy Start System requires just one brush of the starter button to fire the engine, removing the need to hold the button down.

Cutaway footboards make it easier to get feet flat on the floor, and a plush seat with adjustable lumbar support makes for a comfortable ride. LED running lights, headlights, and taillights provide excellent nighttime visibility, while also enhancing the maxi-scooter’s stylish design.

Security features come in the form of Suzuki’s Advanced Immobiliser System (SAIS) and a magnetic cover that protects the ignition barrel and opens only for the owner’s key. A chain gate allows the rider to pass a chain lock through the bodywork, around the frame, and then around a pole or other immovable object.

The updated Burgman 400 will be available from authorised Suzuki dealerships in the summer, and will come in matte silver, matte black, and iron grey, all complete with blue rims.

Suzuki releases new colours for GSX-S750

Suzuki has released two new colour options for its popular GSX-S750 naked, which includes a new blue and black edition with fluro accents as well as a grey and black version with striking blue wheels.

A reimagined blue and black livery sees a black tank, mudguard, seat unit, and belly pan complemented by blue radiator shrouds and side panels, all offset by standout fluro accents around the headlight and on the belly pan, plus the 750 graphic on the seat unit and rim decals.

Retaining the same black elements is a variant that swaps the blue to a subtle, classy grey, which is finished with blue details and blue wheels.

Adorning the tank and radiator shrouds of both models is a large GSX logo, reminiscent of the SUZUKI logo on the firm’s GSX-R machines.

The GSX-S750 produces 114PS from it’s GSX-R-derived engine, which is tuned for more street-focussed performance. It features a three-mode traction control system, plus Suzuki’s practical easy-start and low rpm assist aids.

And currently available with £750 off it means the GSX-S750 comes with an RRP of just £7249, and with a £2000 deposit or trade-in can be ridden for £60.30 per month on a three-year PCP deal.

Suzuki’s popular £1 per cc offer will return this autumn, which will see customers able to enjoy savings of up to £1000.

Suzuki Announces Limited Edition GSX-R1000 To Celebrate 100th Anniversary

Suzuki has announced a limited edition GSX-R1000R – which will go on sale in October with an RRP of £16,999 – released to celebrate the firm’s 100th anniversary.

Limited to just 100 units in the UK, the flagship superbike sports the same retro-inspired livery as the GSX-RR MotoGP machine, with the traditional blue and slate silver colour scheme paying homage to Suzuki’s early Grand Prix machines of the 1960s.

The GSX-R – which has won races and championships in the UK, the USA, and Australia, the Senior TT on the Isle of Man, and most recently picked up three victories at the Silverstone British Superbike round last week weekend – also shares more than just paint with the GP racer. It utilises the same variable valve timing system to boost both torque and peak power and gets a comprehensive suite of electronics, which includes 10 traction control modes, a quickshifter and auto-blipper, launch control, and lean angle-sensitive ABS.

2020 marks 100 years since the inception of the Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Co. The firm began the production of motorcycles in 1952 with the launch of the Power Free, and two years later changed its name to Suzuki Motor Co. Ltd. Since then it has gone on to produce some of the most iconic motorcycles of the 20th and 21st century, including the complete GSX-R series – most notably the genre-defining 1985 GSX-R750F and the 2001 GSX-R1000 K1 – the GT750, GSX1100S Katana, and RGV250, plus Bandits and the legendary Hayabusa.

It means the V-Strom 1050, already lauded as one of the best-value adventure bikes on the market thanks to its RRP of just £9,999, now offers even more practicality. The free City Pack makes the true all-rounder an ideal tool for both weekend getaways and the daily commute, with plenty of space to keep your clothes and laptop for work while avoiding crowded public transport.

Launched this year the V-Strom 1050 uses Suzuki’s 1037cc V-twin engine which has been upgraded for Euro5, making 7% more power (107PS) whilst delivering strong liner torque from tick over to red line and 57.65mpg, giving an impressive 250mile range from its 20L tank. There are three power modes and three traction control settings to keep everything in check, plus the ability to turn the traction control off. A V-Strom 1050XT-inspired version of Arai’s Tour-X4 adventure helmet is now available to buy, with an RRP of £649, from all authorised Suzuki dealerships, or online via shopbikes.suzuki.co.uk/.

The Tour-X4 comes in the same orange and white finish as Suzuki’s new range-topping V-Strom, complete with matching decals, and comes with a long list of features, including a double D-ring strap, front ventilation from dual intakes, brow vents, and three-position chin vent, and rear ventilation courtesy of a neck exhaust vent, side exhausts, and a removable diffuser.

Your bike your way with Suzuki’s summer savers

Suzuki is giving you the chance to have your bike, your way by running a number of great money-saving offers across its range this summer, including the return of its popular 2, 3, 4 finance campaign plus a £500 test ride incentive, running from 1 July to 30 September.

2, 3, 4 finance offer

The popular 2, 3, 4 finance offer returns this summer and allows customers to choose from either a two, three, or four-year agreement, on either PCP or HP, with an APR to match.

Included is the GSX-R1000R and the GSX-R1000, both the GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F, plus the GSX-S750, the V-Strom 650 and XT variant, and the Katana.

On a four-year PCP deal the GSX-S1000 can be ridden for just £99 per month, with a £2,371.42 deposit, while the versatile V-Strom 650 can be had for £139 per month on a four-year HP agreement, but with no final balloon payment at the end and just a £1,582.06 deposit.

£500 test ride incentive

Suzuki is also offering £500 off the RRP of many popular models in its range to anyone that takes a test ride, including some that are also available with the above 2, 3, 4 finance deal. The £500 saving can be had on the GSX-R1000R, Katana, GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F, V-Strom 650, SV650, and SV650X.

The saving means the sporty SV650, which uses Suzuki’s proven and characterful 645cc V-twin engine comes with an RRP of just £5,499. Meanwhile, the price of a new Katana drops to just £10,899.

The fun-loving, learner-friendly GSX-R125 and GSX-S125 machines continue to be available with £500 off their RRPs, bringing the price for these exciting lightweight machines to £3,899 and £3,599 respectively.

Suzuki launches ‘holeshot campaign’ with £1000 off 2020 RM-Z range

Suzuki has launched a new ‘holeshot campaign’ this summer that will see a £1000 saving available off the RRP of both its 2020 championship-winning RM-Z450 and the RM-Z250 motocross machines.

The RM-Z450 – which has won five out of the last six Arenacross Pro 450 class championships, the most recent coming this year when Charles Le Francois lifted the title for SR75 Suzuki – is now available for just £5,999, while the RM-Z250 costs £5,899.

Both bikes boast the latest holeshot assist control system, which assesses throttle position and gear selection and then adjusts ignition timing to suit for better launches once the gate drops, as well as an advanced traction management system, whereby the ECU adjusts ignition timing and the amount of fuel injected into the engine based on throttle position, engine speed, and gear position, for optimum traction.

Suzuki GB’s head of motorcycles, Jonathan Martin, commented, “We’ve been seeing tracks reopen across the country and we know that many people are keen to get out and get riding again this season. This offer now makes it easier and more affordable for riders to put the best RM-Z450 or RM-Z250 there’s ever been behind the start gate, and focus on grabbing the holeshot.”

Suzuki offers additional £500 off on top of existing 0% finance campaign

Suzuki GB is offering customers an extra £500 off the RRP of selected models this spring, in addition to its current four-year 0% hire purchase finance deal that has been extended until the end of June.

The money-saving offer follows the most recent government announcement, allowing dealerships to take orders online or over the phone and deliver new bikes and parts to customers, in line with social distancing measures. It means those looking for a new bike this spring can still take delivery and start planning those post-lockdown rides.

Available with both an additional £500 off and included in the 0% offer is Suzuki’s championship-winning GSX-R1000R and the GSX-R1000, along with the Katana and V-Strom 650 and 650XT. The GSX-S range – the 750, 1000, and 1000F – is also included.

Suzuki is also offering £500 off its SV650X and S650, taking their RRPs to £6099 and £5499, while extending its current £500 off campaign on the entry-level GSX-R and GSX-S125 machines, bringing the cash prices down to £3899 and £3599 respectively.

Customers taking advantage of the offers can ride the range-topping GSX-R1000R for just £255.14 per month over 48 months, with no final balloon payment, with a deposit or trade-in of £4000. A £2500 deposit on the new Katana means the head-turning street bike can be ridden for £178.06 per month, while the versatile V-Strom 650 can be had for less than £100 per month with the same deposit.

Suzuki set to bring Barry Sheene Classic to life with huge display and demo rides

Suzuki is bringing a number of Barry Sheene’s race bikes to this year’s Barry Sheene Classic at Oliver’s Mount – which takes place on 25-26 July – in what is set to be the largest collection of Sheene bikes ever assembled.

Returning as title sponsor of the event, Suzuki will bring along the 1976 and 1977 world championship-winning XR14s, the 1984 XR45 – the last GP bike Sheene raced in anger – and a 652cc XR23A which was raced in the Trans Atlantic series. All four bikes were recently restored to their former glory thanks to Suzuki’s Vintage Parts Programme and former Grand Prix technicians Nigel Everett and Martyn Ogborne.

Suzuki will also display a 1978 XR22 and a rare RT67: the 125cc machine Sheene raced to second place in the 125 World Championship in 1971, after buying it from Stuart Graham the year before, while Team Classic Suzuki will show off a number of other bikes raced by the twice world champion, many of which will be ridden on parade laps.

The Team Classic Suzuki RG500 raced at the Classic TT will also be featured, as well as the F1 Classic TT-winner and Katana endurance racer.

Away from race bikes, Suzuki’s classic fleet will be on display to promote the firm’s Vintage Parts Programme, which includes a 1985 GSX-R750F, 1990 GSX-R1100L, a 2001 TL1000S built from brand new parts in 2014, a 1992 RGV250, a 2000 GSF600 Bandit, and a DR Big from 1990.

At the modern end of the spectrum the Japanese marque will have its demo fleet on hand for visitors to take for test rides, including the GSX-R1000R superbike – which features a comprehensive suite of electronics including a 10-mode traction control system, a quickshifter and auto-blipper, and launch control – and the new V-Strom 1050XT, the DR Big-inspired adventure machine designed to cross continents that features cruise control, hill hold, and lean-angle sensitive ABS plus a 7% power hike over the previous generation.

Suzuki GB aftersales marketing coordinator, Tim Davies, commented, “The annual Sheene festival at Oliver’s Mount is always a good event, but this year it feels like it’s going to be a real celebration of arguably this nation’s greatest ever racer. I don’t think there’s ever been a greater assembly of bikes raced by Barry in one place, and it’s going to be great to not only see so many on display, but so many paraded around a circuit that he enjoyed racing at. I, personally, am really looking forward to it.”

Suzuki announces winter offers including 0% finance on GSX-R1000R and Katana

Suzuki has announced its winter offers, which run until the end of March 2020 and include 0% APR finance on a number of key models in its current on-road range, plus £500 off its 125cc motorcycles.

Suzuki’s headline offer of 0% HP finance over 48 months is available on the range-topping GSX-R1000R and GSX-R1000, the new-for-2019 Katana, the GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F, GSX-S750 as well as the standard and XT variants of the V-Strom 650 – all with a minimum deposit of just £500 required.

As a result, some of Suzuki’s most popular models are now available with even more affordable monthly repayments, plus there’s the added benefit of no final balloon payment at the end of the agreement.

Those looking for a learner or A1 licence-friendly machine can benefit from £500 off Suzuki’s GSX-R125 and GSX-S125 models, which lowers prices to £3,899 and £3,599 respectively until the end of March. Both bikes use a free-revving DOHC single-cylinder engine, with styling that echoes their larger GSX-R and GSX-S siblings.

Suzuki announces three V-Strom 1050 accessory packs ahead of spring arrival

Suzuki has announced three accessory packs for its hotly-anticipated V-Strom 1050 and V-Strom 1050XT ahead of their arrival in March, and knowing everyone’s idea of adventure varies, Suzuki has tailored its new kits to suit.

A fully-loaded Explore pack equips the DR-Z-inspired V-Strom 1050XT with full aluminium luggage, engine bars, LED fog lamps, aluminium bash plate, and heated grips. Ideal for those looking to cover big mileage and conquer rougher terrain, the Explore pack comes with an RRP* of £2,499 and represents a saving of £626 over the cost of the individual items.

For customers plotting weekends away the Tour pack comprises full aluminium luggage and costs £1,299, meaning a saving of £316.  Those looking to exploit the V-Strom 1050s capabilities as a city tool can opt for the City pack which includes a spacious 55-litre top box and centre stand for £699, saving £147 in the process.

V-Strom 1050 available from £109 per month on Suzuki Flexible Finance scheme

The V-Strom 1050 will be available from just £109 per month when it arrives next spring, with the new adventure machine now added to Suzuki’s Flexible Finance scheme and dealerships already taking deposits.

Displayed in the UK for the first time at last month’s Motorcycle Live following its reveal at Eicma in Milan, Italy, the V-Strom 1050’s inclusion on Suzuki’s finance scheme means customers can tailor a deal to suit their needs and secure one of the first bikes to arrive in March.

With a three-mode traction control system and three engine modes, a deposit or trade-in of £2,250 means the V-Strom 1050 can be ridden for £109 per month over three years. For £129 per month over the same period with a £2,360 deposit, customers can choose the V-Strom 1050XT. The flagship V-Strom uses Suzuki’s Intelligent Ride System and a six axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) to manage lean-angle sensitive ABS and linked brakes – which support slope-dependent and load-dependent control and hill hold – as well as boasting cruise control and a two-mode ABS system.

Both versions of the new V-Strom use a 1037cc V-Twin engine, which produces 107PS and is wrapped in an aluminium frame. Suspension comes from fully-adjustable 43mm front forks from KYB, with a preload and rebound damping-adjustable rear shock. Brakes are radial Tokicos biting twin 310mm discs.

Suzuki releases video of Sheene bike restoration

Suzuki has released a video of its latest Barry Sheene restoration project, with two more of the former champion’s RG500s returned to their former glory at Motorcycle Live 2019.

Nigel Everett and Martyn Ogborne, themselves ex-Grand Prix technicians, worked in conjunction with Suzuki’s Vintage Parts Programme to rebuild the last 500 Sheene raced for Suzuki in Grand Prix – the 1984 XR45, recognisable for its DAF sponsorship – and a special XR23A from 1979, which was a big bore RG500 raced in the Trans Atlantic series and Formula 750 Championship.

The bikes were stripped and, where required, repaired or refurbished, before being reassembled on the Suzuki stand at Motorcycle Live, where visitors could see Everett and Ogborne plying their trade before starting the bikes up over the final weekend.

Suzuki GB aftersales coordinator, Tim Davies, said, “We were blown away by the reception and feedback this restoration again received at Motorcycle Live, and it was really humbling to hear people’s stories of meeting and watching Sheene race. With these rebuilds and the additional Sheene bikes on display – including the refurbished 1976 and 1977 title-winning XR14s – it really was a great celebration of, arguably, Britain’s favourite motorcycle racer.

“These rebuilds are only possible thanks to the Vintage Parts Programme and the support it receives from owners of older Suzukis that want to keep them running, keep them alive, and looking their best. It enables us to undertake projects like this and we’re already plotting the next one.”

Suzuki’s new V-Strom 1050 available from £9,999

Suzuki has announced pricing for its new DR-Z inspired adventure machine, with the V-Strom 1050 available for £9,999, while the flagship V-Strom 1050XT comes with an RRP of £11,299.

Both machines use an updated version of Suzuki’s proven 1037cc V-Twin engine, which produces 7% more power than the outgoing V-Strom 1000 while meeting Euro5 regulations. Peak power is now 107PS. They also get a three-mode traction control system, that can be turned off, and three selectable engine maps.

The V-Strom 1050XT’s electronics package is enhanced thanks to Suzuki’s Intelligent Ride System (SIRS), which features an inertial measurement unit (IMU), lean-angle sensitive ABS with two settings, linked brakes that can detect and adapt to load and inclines, plus hill hold control and cruise control.

The XT also swaps the V-Strom 1050’s cast aluminium wheels for spoked items, and boasts hand guards, engine bars, and a centre stand as standard.

Announcing the pricing, Suzuki GB’s head of motorcycles, Jonathan Martin said, “Suzuki’s V-Strom range has always delivered exciting and dependable performance you can enjoy every day and everywhere while offering great value, and the new V-Strom 1050 and V-Strom 1050XT continue to do that. Available from just £9,999, it means it is the most competitively priced adventure bike over 1000cc, and means customers can enjoy all the benefits of the new V-Strom 1050s plus still afford to take off on some adventures on their new bikes.”

The new V-Strom 1050 and V-Strom 1050XT are currently on display at Motorcycle Live, which is taking place at Birmingham’s NEC until Sunday 24 November.

Hessler Rallye Team builds V-Strom 1050XT Desert Express

German DR-Z, DR Big, and V-Strom specialist Hessler Rallye Team (HRT) has created this V-Strom 1050XT Desert Express. Shown for the first time at the reveal of the new-for-2020 V-Strom 1050XT at Eicma in Milan, Italy, the Desert Express is based around the chassis and V-Twin engine of Suzuki’s flagship adventure machine, but uses a host of new components manufactured in-house by HRT, plus modified suspension and aftermarket bolt-ons.

Hessler’s Desert Express – which plays on the name given to the original DR750S – gains 30mm of suspension travel over the standard machine (up from 160mm to 190mm), with modified front forks and a new rear shock from Wilbers, plus a new HRT-made linkage.

The front forks slot into new yokes, also made in-house, and atop sit X-Line handlebars from MAGURA. Further HRT additions include footrest hangers – which support Suzuki RM-Z450 footpegs – rear brake pedal and gear lever, and skid plate. A new headlight protector and Zeta Rallye 1050 windscreen are copies of the original items found on Suzuki’s Dakar rally machines.

A lift kit raises the front mudguard to fit Anlas Capra X tyres, brake and clutch levers come courtesy of Probrake, and there’s a new luggage rack and number plate assembly. A Mivv silencer adds to the racey look and enhances the V-Twin rumble, and the whole package is finished in a HRT graphics kit.

Making its UK debut at Motorcycle Live next week (16-24 November at Birmingham’s NEC), the V-Strom 1050XT and V-Strom 1050 will arrive in Suzuki dealerships in the spring.

Suzuki announces new V-Strom 1050XT and V-Strom 1050 at Eicma

Suzuki has unveiled two new V-Strom models today, with a new V-Strom 1050XT and V-Strom 1050 announced at Eicma in Milan, Italy. Developed to the design concept of ‘The Master of Adventure’, main features include:

Design heavily influenced by Suzuki’s iconic DR-Z desert racer and DR Big, with a new vertically stacked rectangular LED headlight and distinctive ‘beak’.
New Euro5 version of the flexible and characterful 90° V-Twin engine producing 107.4PS (79kW), a 7% increase over the previous generation.
New ride-by-wire throttle with three selectable engine modes and a three-mode traction control system.
The flagship V-Strom 1050XT gets new Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS) which features a full suite of electronics including an inertial measurement unit (IMU), lean-angle sensitive ABS with two settings, linked brakes that can detect and adapt to load and inclines, plus hill hold control and cruise control.

V-Strom 1050XT
Electronics
The V-Strom 1050XT is equipped with a comprehensive electronics package and uses the new Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS), which is aimed at enhancing everything from rider comfort to performance and practicality.

A new ride-by-wire throttle delivers a natural and linear feeling, while slow speed riding is aided with a more stable idle. The ride-by-wire throttle is part of a wider Controller Area Network (CAN); an interconnected information network that replaces standard wiring, with the benefit being fewer wires and faster data transmission. Also part of that network is a new six-direction inertial measurement unit (IMU) from Bosch. This compact unit monitors pitch, roll, and yaw based on lean angle and acceleration.

Information from the IMU helps govern Suzuki’s updated Motion Track Brake System, which includes lean-angle sensitive ABS. The system also automatically applies pressure to the rear brake to help controlled deceleration when front brake pressure rises to a certain degree. The system supports the rider, should they suddenly brake mid-corner, helping them to continue on the intended line with minimal kickback at the lever.

Riders can select from two ABS modes, depending on the surface and riding conditions.

The V-Strom 1050XT’s Motion Track Brake System also includes slope-dependent control, which optimises pressure across the front and rear brakes to maintain control and avoid rear wheel lift under heavy braking downhill, and load-dependent control, where the ABS unit constantly learns changes in deceleration through the input of hydraulic pressure as the load increases or decreases, when riding with luggage or with a pillion. The system remembers the optimal relationship between the deceleration and hydraulic pressure.

The system also features hill hold control, which means the brake is automatically applied when stopped on an upward slope to prevent roll-back and aid easier starts, especially when laden with pillion and luggage, and rider comfort during long-distance touring is further taken care of with the addition of cruise control.

A three-mode traction control system replaces the previous two-mode system. It can also be turned off. Riders can also select from one of three engine modes, which alter throttle response while still delivering the same peak power. The new V-Strom also gets the latest versions of Suzuki’s low RPM assist and easy-start function.

Styling
While unmistakably V-Strom, the new design is a thoroughly modern take on the styling of the legendary DR-Z race bike and DR Big production machine. The beak – now synonymous with adventure bikes – was first seen on the DR-Z, and the new design further highlights the association but with a more aggressive and standout image. The shape of the fuel tank, too, apes the design of the DR-Z.

The colour options of the V-Strom 1050XT in particular pay further homage to the ‘desert express’ and highlight Suzuki’s rich racing and adventure heritage. It comes in a similar orange and white to the original DR Big, while a yellow version links to Suzuki’s motocross and off-road pedigree.

The handguards, which come as standard, are re-designed and are more angular and rugged, while the mirrors are also new.

Careful thought went into the finish of the V-Twin engine, with new bolts completing a look that sees the cylinder heads, clutch cover, alternator cover, and water pump case finished in a classy bronze.

Completing the striking new look is a new vertically stacked rectangular LED headlight plus LED tail light and LED indicators.

Engine and performance
The new Euro 5-compliant 1037cc, 90° V-Twin engine in the V-Strom 1050XT puts out more power than the outgoing V-Strom 1000, with peak power up by 7% to 107PS, while it maintains its easy-to-use, flexible character and strong linear drive.

This is achieved with reprofiled intake and exhaust cams, with increased lift duration and less overlap. Twin-plug heads remain, along with lightweight three-ring-type forged pistons. A new radiator increases cooling capacity by 15%, and there is a new oil cooler. A slipper clutch aids smoother downshifts and lighter lever action.

Chassis
The V-Strom 1050XT’s chassis – a twin-spar aluminium frame mated to an aluminium swingarm – is lightweight, compact, and narrow, making it easy for riders to manage in all situations. It’s slim design allows riders to get their feet down comfortably when stationary, and contributes to the V-Strom’s agile handling.

It is suspended by 43mm fully-adjustable, upside down forks from KYB. The rear shock is preload and rebound damping-adjustable. Front brakes are radially-mounted Tokicos, biting twin 310mm discs for dependable stopping power.

A tapered handlebar is rigid and lightweight, with ergonomic considerations taken into account when riders are both sitting and standing. New footrests have a tougher design and make it easier to stand when off-road.

Wheels are lightweight DID aluminium, wire-spoked rims, with a 19” front and 17” rear for dependable performance on a variety of surfaces and in different riding conditions. They wear Bridgestone Battlax Adventure A41 radial tyres.

Utility
Careful consideration was given to practicality during development of the V-Strom 1050XT. There’s a height-adjustable seat (plus a lower option available as an accessory for further adjustment), and an extensively wind tunnel-tested height-adjustable screen that can be adjusted without the need for tools to one of 11 settings. A new multi-function instrument cluster presents all required information on a full LCD screen using a clear and intuitive layout. A USB outlet, situated on the left of the instrument cluster, allows for easy charging of electronic devices plus a 12V DC outlet is located under the pillion seat.

Further aiding practicality is the slim fuel tank with a 20 litre capacity, giving a range of over 250 miles (400Km) between fill-ups based on the official WMTC fuel consumption of 57.65mpg (4.9L/100Km)*.

A centre stand, handguards, and engine bars, plus integrated luggage mounts that make for easy fitment and removal of panniers, add even more practicality as standard to the V-Strom 1050XT.

V-Strom 1050
The V-Strom 1050 shares many of the features of the flagship V-Strom 1050XT but with some differences to enable a lower price. The V-Strom 1050 shares the same engine and chassis platform as the XT model but replaces spoked wheels with cast aluminium items. Whilst keeping the same three-mode traction control system and three selectable engine power modes, the V-Strom 1050 loses the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System and its cruise control and Motion Track Brake System with linked brakes, hill hold, slope and load control and switchable ABS modes.

The DR-Z-inspired design is finished in either white and black or grey and black colour schemes, the LED taillights are finished with red lenses instead of the clear finish of the XT, and the LED indicators are swapped for more traditional items. The mirrors are changed, also.

It also loses the standard-fit engine bars, centre stand, handguards, and lower cowling of the XT.

Genuine accessories
A comprehensive catalogue of genuine Suzuki accessories will be available for both models, including heated grips, side stand extender, aluminium and plastic luggage kits plus two tank bags, sump guards and engine bars, fog lamps, mirror extenders, and decal kits.

Availability
The new V-Strom 1050XT and V-Strom 1050 are due to arrive in authorised Suzuki dealerships in the spring, with pricing to be announced.
