Yamaha’s total commitment to racing is second to none. The company has been racing and winning ever since it was founded in 1955, and in 2021 Yamaha reinforced its status as one of the most committed brands in MotoGP, FIM Superbike World Championship and FIM Supersport World Championship – as well as underlining its number one position in many national championships including BSB.
Throughout its history Yamaha has continued to devote energy and resources into racing, to support the passion of track-oriented riders all around the world from the bLU cRU series to World Championships, and the benefits of this philosophy can be seen in the latest R-Series Supersport bikes. Each one of these high performance models has been developed using the most advanced engine and chassis technology that was originally tried and tested on Yamaha’s factory race bikes. This constant technology transfer from track to street is what gives every R-Series the edge over the competition.
Yamaha win 5th consecutive WorldSSP title
As well as running its own race teams, Yamaha has a long history of promoting the interests of national and international supersport racing series – as well as supporting racers and teams in WorldSSP. This factory backing has been rewarded once again with Dominique Aegerter winning the 2021 WorldSSP Championship on board his Ten Kate Yamaha WorldSSP Supported Team Yamaha R6 – the fifth consecutive year that Yamaha machinery has won this prestigious title, dominating the series since the new R6 was introduced back in 2017.
For 2022 Yamaha will continue its total commitment to supersport riders and teams at every level with the production of the R6 RACE and the R6 GYTR – two exclusive track machines with class-leading performance.
R6 RACE: R/World Only
The Yamaha R6 has dominated WorldSSP for many years, and is the bike of choice for every rider who is serious about winning. With its remarkable track record, it is no surprise that the majority of entrants in this class, both at national and international level, choose to race the R6.
Its pure race-bred specification includes a high performance 599cc engine featuring lightweight forged pistons, titanium valves and a 13.1:1 compression ratio, and with its Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake (YCC-I) and Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) as well as a slipper clutch, close ratio 6-speed transmission and Quick Shift System (QSS) for full throttle upshifts, the R6 is built to outperform the competition.
The compact aluminium Deltabox chassis benefits from a magnesium subframe and aluminium fuel tank, as well as high-specification R1-type 43 mm KYB adjustable front forks and an adjustable KYB rear shock for precision handling and cornering – and the radial mount front brake calipers with 320 mm discs produce immense stopping power and contribute significantly towards lower lap times.
The R6 RACE will be available in sleek Tech Black with gold coloured forks for 2022, and will be supplied in track-ready trim with non-essential road components excluded – such as headlight, position lights, mirrors, horn, licence plate holder, tandem seat and tandem footrests. This reduces weight in order to further maximise performance, making this non-homologated machine ideal for track day riders, as well as being the perfect base model for racers who want to personalise it to their own specification.
Deliveries will commence from February 2022. Prices may vary per region, please contact the national Yamaha distributor for full information.
R6 GYTR: Ultimate Racing Supersport
To ensure the continued domination of the R6 at international and national level the new R6 GYTR will be available for 2022, exclusively from YAMAHA PRO SHOP dealerships. Designed for a wide selection of customers from track day riders through to racers, the R6 GYTR is also the clear choice for more demanding competitors who want to take the bike’s performance to an even higher level by fitting a range of engine, suspension or other components from the GYTR line-up.
R6 GYTR comes fully equipped with a wide range of high-performance GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing) parts, including a programmable Superstock ECU with a cable interface enabling the rider to optimise engine performance, as well as a racing wiring harness.
The lightweight performance enhancing titanium Akrapovič racing exhaust system produces around 100Db or less – and block-off plates for the Air Intake System (AIS) are fitted, allowing the removal of various hoses and canisters. Racing sprockets with a special 520 chain are featured, as well as high specification stainless steel brake lines for improved brake performance and precise feedback. The GYTR ABS Emulator will allow the ABS pump removal for even further weight reduction. And the GYTR race seat and fully adjustable billet rear sets give the ideal racing position while the shift pattern can be reversed as well. To get the engine in motion just push the GYTR start/stop button which along with the special GYTR fuel cap allows for a full keyless system.
The R6 GYTR is supplied with a lightweight primer white carbon reinforced glass fibre cowling, enabling riders and teams to apply their desired race livery and logos. Other FIM required parts are included as well, such as the front brake lever guard and rear sprocket protector.
To ensure this race machine matches customers’ expectations and preferences, the GYTR line up allows further upgrades. Full details can be found at www.yamaha-racing.com/gytr/gytr_supersport/.
The R6 GYTR will be available exclusively through Yamaha PRO SHOP dealerships, the first and only place that racers and track days riders need to go for all of their racing needs. Each GYTR PRO SHOP is run by people who eat, sleep and breathe racing, and are involved in racing activities. Furthermore, those special dealerships have direct contact with Yamaha Road Racing Technical Service – the European organisation responsible for WorldSBK, WorldSSP and EWC programmes – so they have the understanding and knowledge required to prepare your personalised racing machine to the highest level.
Four YAMAHA PRO SHOPS have already been appointed in UK: Crescent Motorcycles, in Verwood, Dorset and Padgett’s Motorcycles in Batley, West Yorkshire, and Raceways Motorcycles in Fleetwood, Lancashire and Tamworth Yamaha in Tamworth, West Midlands. R6 GYTR Technical Highlights
