RST Sabre Textile Jacket

Jackets are an integral part of every motorbike ride, however, not every jacket is made to go well with every kind of motorbike, which can be a bit of a problem as motorbike jackets aren’t exactly affordable for many. RST’s Sabre textile jacket has been specifically designed to end such woes and to provide riders with a reliable, affordable & well-protected jacket that can go well with a vast majority of motorbikes. Not only is this jacket incredibly versatile, but it also has several other features to offer which makes it a great motorbike jacket. Shared below is my detailed experience with RST’s textile jacket and some of its highlights that have made it my partner for daily rides.

Being an old user of leather jackets, I was a bit skeptical to try a textile jacket but suffice to say RST’s Sabre textile jacket exceeded my expectations in more than one way. The jacket provides additional advantages in addition to the ones provided by a leather jacket which is one of its standout features. To begin with, the jacket is made from an abrasion-resistant fabric that not only looks rugged from afar but is practically quite durable. The main fabric is further protected by its water-repellent texture that provides the first line of defense against water & mist, while the main SinAqua waterproof lining does the rest of the work in keeping you safe from unfriendly weather wherever you go.

The Sabre textile jacket is an all-weather jacket since it is made from a perforated fabric that works well in conjunction with the front & back air vents to provide good ventilation on hot & humid days. The light texture of the jacket combined with the vents provided has proven to be a great feature in the scorching heat without which it would’ve been unable for me to ride my motorbike in this weather. For the winters, a removable thermal lining is provided that looks thick enough to last through the chilly weather.

One of the main focuses of any rider when looking for a jacket is its active & passive protection system. Thankfully, the Sabre textile jacket is well equipped in this regard as it is equipped with Level 1 certified shoulder and elbow protection that looks and feels solid enough to withstand a harsh impact. Secondary protection is provided by reflective logos that are embossed throughout the front & the back of the jacket.

Overall, RST’s Sabre textile jacket is a great alternative to traditional leather jackets that not only is affordable but is also supremely comfortable. The jacket is also available in an airbag version in case you’re looking for maximum protection. The availability of a wide range of sizes and that too in various color combinations makes the RST Sabre Textile jacket a great part of the routine as well as long motorbike rides.

First Look At The New Triumph Speed Twin

Last friday we were invited to attend the first look of new Triumph Speed Twin at Triumph’s Hinckley Factory but due to various reasons I was unable to attend. So I asked Maja Kenney of Maja’s Motorcycle Adventures she kindly took my place,  heres her initial impression.

Last week I had the pleasure of taking out Triumph’s best-selling modern classic – the Speed Twin that has been updated for 2021.

When I arrived at Triumph I was walked through the controls on the bike. There were no surprises, you’ll be happy to hear. I was then set free to explore some of the quaint Warwickshire villages and lanes.

My first goal was to find a pub. It was lunchtime, I was hungry and I wanted to sit down and look at the bike properly. I have found a lovely pub with parking and outdoor seating. Perfect. I parked up, stopped the engine, and looked for the side stand. I fished with my left foot to kick it out but couldn’t do it. I was sitting on the bike, getting hot as the sun was beaming down on me and by now, the customers in the pub garden started to pay attention. I still couldn’t get the side stand out.

Eventually, I had to lean over and unfold it by hand. But let me explain. I wasn’t exactly wearing the right type of clothing for this beautiful machine. I was in full leathers and racing boots because I had literally gone from Cadwell Park to the Triumph factory. This is not what one might normally choose to wear on a bike like this and therefore the stiffness of the boot meant I had to angle my foot just so, to get the side stand out. Once I figured it out it was as easy as on any other bike.

First things first. The bike is beautiful. I have a huge appreciation for old machines, this includes cars and motorcycles. Thank you, dad! That doesn’t mean I would necessarily choose to run an old classic myself, I don’t know enough about the maintenance. But to have a modern classic where maintenance is easy and the ride feels as effortless as modern bikes do these days, it makes for an interesting proposition.

The setup was perfect for just such a day out. Sunshine, country lanes, big open spaces, and quaint sleepy villages. The seating position is super comfortable, straight back, head up, knees not too bent. The seat height is at 809 mm and the seat itself is quite narrow which means you don’t lose much of the height if your legs are of a shorter disposition.

Big flat bars make the bike super easy to maneuver and a joy to go around the bends. The total (wet) weight of the bike is 216 kg which surprised me as this is almost the same as my Supersport and for some reason I expected the Speed Twin to be lighter.

The Speed Twin is perfectly happy doing 30 mph letting you enjoy the scenery and the gentle ride through the villages. But don’t be fooled, with its 1200cc engine and 98.6 bhp it produces a pretty swift power delivery when you open up the throttle. I got caught out at first, I was wearing waterproofs over my leathers and I slid back on the seat when I came to a clear bit of the road. I had to laugh and I was a bit more steady with the throttle on the next attempt and when overtaking.

Switching between the riding modes is easy. All you have to do is stop the bike and have it in neutral gear, keep the engine running and press one button once for rain mode, again for road mode and again for sport mode. It’s that simple.

The detail and the styling of the Speed Twin have clearly had plenty of attention. The brushed aluminium fuel cap, front and rear mudguards, side panel finishers and heel guards are set off beautifully against the stunning red paint of the fuel tank. Or the Red hopper paint scheme as it is officially called. Two more colour schemes are available, Matt Storm Grey with subtle yellow accents and the Jet Black.

The bar end mirrors finish the look off nicely and the signature LED daylight running light is incorporated into the headlight. The rear light and the indicators are also LED.

It also comes with 50+ accessories according to their marketing department but an engineer I spoke to in the warehouse said the reality is that half of these are a different colour choice of the same thing. So here’s some straight-talking-non-marketing-fact for you.

Overall, a stunning looking motorcycle that is as happy bimbling along at 30 mph or slower when taking in the views and passing picturesque areas as it is enjoying a more spirited ride to really make you feel the wind on your face.

Thanks again to Triumph UK for the invite to try out the new Speed Twin you can find further details here: https://www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/motorcycles/classic/bonneville-speed-twin-2021

Mating Sena’s latest mobile communications technology with a premium, dual homologated modular helmet, the Outrush R allows the wearer to pair with a smartphone to hear turn-by-turn GPS directions, listen to music or FM radio, take phone calls and chat with up to four other riders.

  • 2-Way HD Intercom (rider-to-passenger or bike-to-bike)
  • 4-Way Bluetooth bike-to bike Intercom

Bluetooth 5.0
Powered by Bluetooth® 5.0, the Outrush R can link up with one other Sena Bluetooth® device for full High Definition intercom, or up to four for quick and easy communication on group rides – with a range up to half a mile (900-metres) and a talk time of up to 12 hours.

Advanced Noise Control filters cut out road and wind noise, so conversations, turn-by-turn navigation instructions, and music are crystal clear.

Meanwhile Audio Multitasking allows you to have an intercom conversation while simultaneously listening to music, FM radio, or GPS directions. The overlaid audio is played in the background and will return to normal volume once the conversation is finished.

A charge time of just 2.5 hours means the user can stay connected on longer tours with minimal fuss – no more being left out of the loop.

Dual homologated flip-front
The helmet itself has a light yet tough ABS shell and multi-density EPS liner for first class protection. It’s fully ECE certified and dual P/J homologated, so it is legal to ride with the chin bar up or down.

Air intakes at the chin and forehead, along with a rear exhaust port, keep the wearer cool. The lining is removable and washable for season-long freshness.

A quick release, fog-resistant visor gives a clear view of the road ahead and a drop-down sun visor shields the eyes from glare.

Topping off the spec are a fully Reinforced Chin Strap and Steel Quick Release Buckle.

The power to travel with OptiMate

Keep bike batteries topped up on tour with OptiMate’s handy Solar Duo Travel Kits, which can now charge and maintain both lead acid and lithium 12V batteries.

Perfect for race paddocks, campsites and overland trails, as well as sheds and garages that are off-grid, OptiMate’s new Solar Duo Travel Kits can charge and maintain motorcycle batteries using only the sun’s power.

Thanks to intelligent charging technology, the Kits convert low power from the solar panel to the high current pulses needed for effective battery charging. The smart charger-controller delivers power to the battery only when the solar panel receives sun. When the sun goes down, it switches into battery monitor mode, indicating battery status every three seconds. The easy-to-read 4-LED panel – which can be positioned close to the vehicle – allows the user to follow charge and maintenance progress easily.

Travel Kits are completely safe to use with all STD, AGM and GEL 12V batteries, from 2Ah to 240Ah, and 12.8V lithium batteries too. They won’t overcharge and are designed to be more effective than traditional solar chargers, which only deliver a small current and, on cloudy days, can potentially draw power from the battery.

OptiMate Travel Kits are especially useful for riders who want to recharge smartphones, action cameras, airbag jackets, etc, using power from the bike while it is parked.

Versions are available from 10W to 60W and each kit includes everything needed to get charging: high intensity poly crystalline solar panel, OptiMate Solar Duo controller, crocodile clips and weatherproof battery lead. OptiMate thoughtfully supply suction mounts for flat surfaces and a handy travel bag for easy transportation.

Prices start at £146.99 including VAT for the Solar Duo 10W Travel Kit.

New Arai RX-7V Nicky Reset

Arai announces new Nicky RESET RX-7V helmet!

Arai is proud to present the new Nicky Reset graphic on the Arai RX-7V. This stunning design is the very special graphic worn by Nicky during MotoGP testing, becoming an iconic design after those appearances and requested by fans ever since.

Now, this amazing design will be available to the public.

The RX-7V has long been renowned as one of the most advanced, highest quality helmets available anywhere in the world. It represents the culmination of Arai’s vast experience in helmet design and unwavering focus on rider protection. And with features like the ingenious VAS shield mechanism, dramatically improved airflow and ventilation, and an odour resistant liner, the RX-7V has certainly earned its place as Arai’s flagship model.

A Statement from the Hayden Family:
Sometime after Nicky’s passing, the family collectively agreed that we wanted to keep his memory and legacy alive to honour all that he had achieved and all the lives he had touched in such a short period of time.

One of the most recognized things we thought that can be immediately connected to Nicky was his helmet replicas. Over the years Nicky had dozens of designs that fans around the world chose to wear while riding as a sign of loyalty and respect for him.

It is for those fans that we chose to work with Arai to continue producing Nicky’s replicas. If it weren’t for the fans and their continued loyalty and desire for new Nicky’s designs, we wouldn’t continue. But the fans continue to ask for Nicky replicas, so we feel compelled to make them available.

Since his passing, we have produced replicas Nicky wore in the heat of competition, and even brought back one of his all-time fan favourites – the Nicky Laguna. Now we find ourselves with a demand for a fan favourite that Nicky did wear, but was never offered as a replica.

The Reset was a special one-off design that Nicky wore during off-season MotoGP testing, symbolizing his return to a familiar ride and visualized his need to reset himself for that challenge.

At that time there was talk about making the Reset a replica, but for one reason or another, it just never happened.

Now, as demand for a new design started to build, we worked with Arai to review fan feedback and found quite a bit for the Reset design. Then considering the current world situation, we thought the idea of the Reset was perfect timing.

Therefore, the Hayden Family and Arai will again honour Nicky’s memory and keep his legacy alive with this latest Nicky Reset replica.

We wish to thank all the fans who asked for this design and wear it proudly, keeping Nicky’s memory alive.

The Nicky Reset RX-7V helmet will be available through your favourite Arai dealer in October 2021.

Full touchscreen compatible, the G-TWO gloves are available in sizes S-XXL, in black, black/sand, black/light grey or black/dark blue colour options, with RRP £69.99.

The ladies version – the G-TWO Lady – features an elasticised 4-way stretch jersey back and is available in black/red and black/yellow fluo, in five sizes – XS-XL – with RRP £49.99.

G-THREE: For off-road and enduro riders
Elasticised four-way stretch jersey gloves, the G-THREE gloves are designed for enduro use, providing ultimate flexibility and feel with enhanced protective elements like a rubber injection on the knuckles and fingers, and an anti-abrasion flexible insert on the palm and a padded insert on the thumb. With meticulous attention to detail, T.ur has designed the G-THREE with a large silicone mould on the palm for added grip, and the material on the palm is cut using one piece of fabric, reducing the number of seams and therefore minimising friction points.

The G-THREE enduro gloves are CE-certified, and are available in sand/grey, red, black, and black/yellow fluo colour options. They come in sizes XS-XXL, with RRP £34.99.

G-FOUR: For protection and comfort in winter
The newest addition to the T.ur glove line-up, the G-FOUR gloves are CE-certified winter gloves for riders that want their hands to stay warm, dry and comfortable in any weather. With Thermore® thermal booster (130 gr) padding and a HDry® waterproof breathable barrier united with the outer layer – meaning the liner doesn’t detach from the outer layer of the glove when taking the glove off – the G-FOUR gloves offer manoeuvrability and comfort.

For protection, the gloves feature an anti-abrasion micro-injected rubber insert on the palm, tough 1680D Ballistic fabric inserts on the back, and soft homologated armour and injected rubber on the knuckles. There’s also a silicone rubber print on the fingers to improve grip, a reflective insert on the cuff for visibility and a three-layer visor cleaner insert on the thumb; ideal to perfectly wipe a curved visor, and allowing bending of the thumb. Inside, the gloves have a fluffy fleece lining on the back for warmth, and a microfibre lining on the palm for maximum sensitivity of the controls.

Available in black, in sizes S-3XL, with RRP £114.99.

Travelling by motorcycle is even more enjoyable with Ducati Performance touring accessories

The motorcycle travel season is getting underway and Ducati is particularly attentive to the globetrotting approach of its enthusiasts, offering a selection of touring accessories from the Ducati Performance catalogue, created to increase the pleasure of every riding adventure.

Within the Ducati range there are several families of motorcycles capable of balancing the typically sporting spirit of the Rosse di Borgo Panigale with a high level of comfort. Motorcycles such as the Multistrada, the SuperSport 950, the Diavel 1260 and the XDiavel can be used to cover long itineraries even divided into several days of travel and the choice of the right accessories and correct technical equipment makes these journeys even more enjoyable for motorcyclists.

For this reason, the Bologna-based motorcycle company works with care and attention on the creation of the touring accessories contained within the Ducati Performance catalogue, collaborating with the best companies in the sector and entrusting their design to the Centro Stile Ducati. The commitment is reflected in the production of components tailored to each family of motorcycles, which Ducatisti can view online in the “configurator” section of the Ducati.com website and order at their nearest dealership.

The symbolic accessories of the touring world are bags and cases, indispensable tools for carrying everything you need while exploring new locations. The Ducati Performance catalogue offers a number of different types based on the family of motorcycles on which they are mounted. In the case of the Multistrada V4, the globetrotter par excellence of the Ducati range, the rigid side panniers have volumes designed to ensure maximum capacity and reach maximum practicality in combination with the top case with quick release system integrated in the vehicle and the central stand, essential to always park the bike safely. Both the side panniers and the top case have lines designed to better integrate with the design of the bike and can be customized with cover sets, available in various colours.

For the SuperSport 950, the road sports bike of the Borgo Panigale range, in addition to the soft side bags and the passenger seat bag, Ducati also offers a magnetic tank bag, equipped with large pockets, zip closures and a quick-mount system.

For those who love to travel as a couple, it is essential to ensure maximum comfort for the passenger as well. Accessories such as a heated seat (available on the Multistrada V4 for both the rider and the passenger) allow you to enjoy the ride even on the coldest days and on mountain roads, while the practical passenger grab handles ensure comfortable support at all times of the journey and are available as an accessory for the SuperSport 950, Monster and Hypermotard 950.

Finally, a really useful accessory especially for longer journeys, available for some Ducati models, is the Ducati Zumo 396 satellite navigator kit , which in addition to providing road directions, allows you to store the routes taken, to share the itineraries in real time, but also to make hands-free calls and listen to music. The Ducati Zumo 396 navigator is equipped with a large 4.3″ screen and has a robust structure, waterproof and resistant to fuel splashes and exposure to ultraviolet rays. The high satnav support set is also available, which allows perfect visibility of the navigator and dashboard even in the presence of tank bags.

Further information on Ducati Performance touring accessories is available on the Ducati.com website.

2021 HONDA CB1000R 5Four

Honda has never been afraid to apply its technology, engineering and imagination to create motorcycles that inhabit new spaces in the marketplace. The CB1000R is one such bike.

Introduced in 2018, born under the banner of ‘Neo Sports Café,’ it’s a fusion of Sport Naked and bare-boned Café Racer inspirations. Combining more with less, the CB1000R gives its rider a huge amount of usable engine performance with the control of a super sports machine. Whichever way it’s approached – aesthetics, emotions, performance or technology – the CB1000R has proved itself a hard motorcycle to ignore.

With aggressively updated styling for 2021, the CB1000R caught the eye of 5Four motorcycles’ Guy Willison, the man behind the beautiful 2019 CB1100 RS 5Four. Guy is a professional bike designer and builder who has found two-wheeled TV fame on The Motorbike Show (among other programmes). As he explains, he could not resist the chance to move on to a new creation for Honda UK:

“Now here is an already fabulous bike crying out for the 5Four treatment. An obvious starting point? The rear. The 5Four tail tidy has no exterior bracketry so the lines are clean. We’ve also fitted a slim LED rear light enabling the number plate to be mounted as high as possible revealing the whole of the rear tyre. The 5Four composite fairing has been designed to flow with the existing lines of the bike and offer some respite from the elements for the rider and carries an individually numbered Limited Edition badge. Each bike comes with a fantastic Racefit titanium Growler X exhaust to enhance the single sided swingarm and beautiful new for 2021 spoked wheels; we’ve also fitted black adjustable dog-leg levers with anodized red adjusters and billet mirrors. The supple leather seat has been hand-stitched in the trademark 5Four diamond-padded pattern and, for the paint, we’ve brought the Works Hondas of old bang-up-to-date with stunning candy red, blue and pearl white. The tank also wears a lovingly hand-painted Honda racing logo. We’re so proud of the CB1000R 5Four – and it’s as good to ride as it is to look at!”

The base for the CB1000R 5Four is a standard 2021 CB1000R with quickshifter fitted. Each will be one of a limited production run with every bike individually numbered. The OTR price is £16,954.

Ordering a CB1000R 5Four is easy. A call to a local Honda dealer with a deposit secures a place in line; Honda will then confirm an estimated delivery date with the dealer as well as the number of the bike.

Honda Finance can also offer finance in the form of a Hire Purchase, Vehicle Purchase Loan or Personal Contract Purchase agreement with Honda Finance Europe Plc; full terms and conditions are available from the Honda dealer.

Two Stunning Scout Customs from Indian Motorcycle Metz

The drag bike inspired ‘Hundred’ and the old school spirit of ‘Red Wings’

Renowned for igniting social media with their beautiful customs, the French dealer, Indian Motorcycle Metz, has again lit up social feeds with two more stunning Indian Scout Bobber builds.

Located in Woippy in the heart of Lorraine, Indian Motorcycle Metz built ‘Hundred’ to celebrate their milestone of selling 100 motorcycles in one year, while ‘Red Wings’ was all about the purity of old school motorcycles.

Approaching the Scout Bobber from two different directions, the drag bike inspired ‘Hundred’ and the retro spirit of ‘Red Wings’ show how imagination, carefully selected parts and attention to detail can create vastly different and totally unique rides from the same base bike.

Thomas Castany of Indian Motorcycle Metz said, “We make every effort to show a fun, young and dynamic image and there is no better way to express that than with the customs we create based on the Indian Scout. Indian Motorcycle is a legendary brand, and we are proud to represent it in Lorraine.”

The Sprint Spirit is clear in the Scout Bobber ‘Hundred’ which takes its inspiration straight from American drag strips where the smell of burnt rubber and gasoline reigns. Putting all their passion and know-how into the transformation of the Scout, the team at Indian Motorcycle Metz put in long days, working late into the evening.

For a riding position more suitable for the drag racing style, inverted Biltwell handlebars, a saddle kit from Wunderkind and a riser provides a more linear position. The intake is completely open to let the Scout breathe through a Trask Performance filter with a Freedom performance exhaust and Samco Performance reinforced water hoses handle the coolant. Riding on Arnott pneumatic shock absorbers and rims from Revtech fitted with Avon Cobra Chrome tyres, braking is taken care of with Galfer petal discs.

And the stunning livery was applied by AR Performance in Orange Lamborghini with 7 coats of varnish including a final ceramic varnish.

From the brash drag strip style to the simple, clean lines of the old school look. Indian Motorcycle Metz wanted to celebrate the Old School spirit by purifying the machine as much as possible and include details like the Monza style fuel cap and the Joker machined pulley cover.

To achieve this, Metz first raided the genuine Indian Motorcycle accessory catalogue for the rider controls with all-black Indian Motorcycle brake and clutch levers, Indian Motorcycle grips and genuine floorboards. The gorgeous floating solo seat is craftsmanship at its finest made to measure by Les Leathers Joff le Barbu and featuring the Indian Motorcycle roundel and Metz logo.

The bright chrome wire wheels, complemented by the Freedom Performance exhaust, are custom made by HD Wheels USA and the huge 200 section rear tyre rides on Arnott air suspension and is wrapped in a bespoke fender fabricated by Indian Motorcycle Metz. Contrasting the bright elements is the deep Apple Candy paint applied by AR Performance.

But the unique and eye-catching feature is the springer girder front end created especially for ‘Red Wings’ by Blechfee, the German specialist of handmade metal parts. Sporting a lenticular front light, Kellerman indicators and married to reinforced Klock Werks handlebars, the front end makes a real statement.

RST Brixton Jacket Review

I got the chance to try RST’s Brixton textile jacket a whilst testing the Triumph Trident recently below is my review of the Brixton jacket.

Textile jackets may not have a rich history as their leather counterparts, but they do offer some additional advantages. The RST Brixton jacket, as a whole, looks cool even (old school look) from afar almost has a leather look to it from a distance. The fit & finish has been tailored as such to comfortably accommodate your arms and the torso. For an affordable jacket, the quilted stitching is remarkably well detailed and there’s no sign of shoddy craftsmanship. The adjustable waist & cuff comes in real handy for a person like me who often faces difficulty whilst fitting his arms through non-adjustable cuffs.

The jacket, though, made entirely from a mixture of HD Wax & Kevlar, boasts a rather retro theme that one expects only from a traditional leather jacket. However, the greatest advantage of the Brixton jacket stems from its durable cotton & Kevlar construction that not only provides protection at par with a traditional leather jacket but also keeps me relatively cooler on hot summer days. The non-leather material is further complemented by ventilation points at the chest and the rear that do a great job at dissipating the humidity. Moreover, the jacket can instantly be turned into a cold-weather jacket by attaching the quilted thermal lining that comes as standard with the overall package.

No motorbike jacket is complete without solid armor protection and fortunately, the RST Brixton jacket has got an CE level protection as standard thanks to the use of protectors in all critical areas. The key protected areas include the back*, shoulder & elbow that are generally the most vulnerable areas in case of an impact. All the zips are also muscular enough to withstand the wear & tear that occurs during a crash, ultimately, providing you the confidence to push the boundaries.

*This jacket doesn’t have a back protector as standard I luckily had one from another jacket however your can purchase it from rst-moto.com from the princely sum of £17.99

RST’s Brixton textile jacket is available only in black color at the moment, but the availability of a vast number of sizes means you’ll have no problem finding the right size for yourself or your fellow riders.

RST F-lite Jacket Review

Maja Kenney of Maja’s Motorcycle Adventures reviews the RST F-Lite Mesh Jacket

Summer riding made comfortable! Finally, the weather has turned up the heat and I was delighted to have had the opportunity to wear my new mesh jacket on the motorcycle. I’ve had quite enough of the layering up and the cold rides. I love summer and I love the sunshine.

As much as the ideal picture of a summer riding on a motorcycle seems a dream (and it is), it is also the time of suffering in your motorcycle clothing whenever you come to a stop. The hot weather doesn’t go well with protective clothing. Luckily, there are alternatives. A mesh riding jacket is perfect for those scorchio days that we sometimes get in the UK. Believe me, they are worth the investment!

The RST F-lite jacket is lightweight and breathable. Of course, it is constructed with mesh fabric (K540) which allows for excellent ventilation and you can feel the cooling effect of it whilst riding. And when you stop, there is no sudden rush of heat you normally experience with heavier jackets.

The jacket comes with internal windproof and shower resistant liner that zips into the jacket. This is great for those warm days that still have a little bit of a chill in the air and of course, it protects you from light rain if you get caught out whilst out riding.

There are two settings for the poppers on the sleeves to allow the adjustment for your arms and the two waist zips on each side of the jacket allow for a better fit to adjust to your body shape. The cuffs have a velcro closing strap to fit around your wrists.

The two side pockets are of good size. The pocket liner is perforated fabric which means it doesn’t stop the air flow but it does seem to bunch up inside the pocket making it, at times, difficult to fish out small items such as ear plugs. Perhaps stitching the pocket liners in a couple of places would improve that.

The front of the jacket is shorter than the back. I think I understand the thinking behind it. Some jackets can be a bit bulky when you sit on the bike and the fabric bunches up. However, I never found that a big problem on any of my jackets and I find the cut somewhat strange as this means that my t-shirt sticks out of the jacket and makes for a somewhat odd look when not on the bike.

When the internal liner is removed you will find two internal chest pockets, one with a zip, as well as a pocket for the back protector. The jacket comes with elbow and shoulder armour. There is also a zip connector at the back to join the jacket with a compatible jean.

It comes in all black colour with subtle design panels on the front to break up the texture. I would have like to have seen a pop of colour (not pink!) as my preference for summer riding but that doesn’t deter me from the jacket. A couple of reflective strips just below the shoulders on the arms and a subtle RST logo finish off the design tastefully. I am very much a fan of subtle branding on any of my clothing.

Overall the jacket is very comfortable, and well tailored for most body shapes with the available adjustments. It looks great with a pair of denim riding jeans for urban riding and even short touring trips.

The CRF250R and CRF250RX headline the 2022 CRF family updates

2022 HONDA CRF250RX

The new 22YM CRF250R and CRF250RX headline the latest tranche of updates to Honda’s multi championship winning off-road family.

Following updates to the 22YM CRF450R and CRF450RX that saw both bikes receive suspension refinements to further build on their 21YM ground-up ‘Razor Sharp Cornering’ redesign, the 22YM CRF250R and CRF250RX inherit several of their bigger siblings’ recent technical advancements to make it easier for riders of all levels to go consistently faster for longer, lap after lap.

The 22YM CRF250R now uses the multi MXGP championship-winning frame and swing arm from the 21YM CRF450R, receives extensive engine upgrades, a new 9 plate clutch, revised suspension and benefits from a 3kg weight saving.

The 22YM models’ engines benefit from extensive revisions to both intake and exhaust efficiency, including a larger airbox, re-angled fuel injectors, revised valve timings, ‘straight down’ exhaust port and new lighter single exhaust. Drive is delivered via a new 9 plate clutch developed to improve both endurance and feel (with a lighter lever action) and the power is transmitted through revised gear ratios. The overall effect of the engine changes are a 10% improvement in top power and 15% more mid-range torque, enhancing both top speeds and low to mid range drive.

The new frame and swingarm as found on the current CRF450R, which has taken Tim Gajser to back-to-back MXGP Championships in 2019 and 2020, has its rigidity balance and geometry optimised and is supported by new re-valved Showa suspension to enhance cornering ability and handling.

All the bodywork is new. Designed with Computational Flow Dynamics, the radiator shrouds are now made from a single piece of plastic and feature a new lower vent to improve airflow to the radiator. The new seat is shorter, lighter and 10mm lower at the rear to improve rider freedom and movement.

The 22YM CRF250RX benefits from all the same updates as its motocross sibling, but features a unique ECU fuel injection mapping for improved enduro performance, an 8L plastic fuel tank, instead of the CRF250R’s 6.3L titanium tank, a forged aluminium sidestand and the inclusion of new knuckle guards as standard.

The 22YM CRF250R, CRF250RX, along with the smaller CRF150R, CRF125F, CRF110F and CRF50F follow the lead of the 21YM CRF450R and CRF450RX and feature a striking new all-red graphic update.
