NEW – Arai EX-2 Spoiler for RX-7V

Developed for MotoGP – the EX2 Spoiler is a spoiler made to perfectly fit the RX-7V, taking the aerodynamic performance of the standard helmet and enhancing it.

The diffuser bridges the gap between the helmet and the race hump, improving stability and aerodynamic efficiency at high speeds, as well as increasing the ventilation capabilities.

The spoiler is lightweight and is designed to break away in the event of an impact in order to preserve the glancing off capabilities of the helmet.

NEW – Arai Quantic

As with every Arai, the New Quantic is formed around protection first and foremost.

The Quantic offers a new fresh choice for riders that want the very best performance from a helmet – in terms of protection, comfort and ease of wear, day-in-day out – with zero compromise. Modern touches, such as swage lines and new graphics means the Quantic is at the cutting edge of performance and style, and with official ECE R22.06 homologation, the Quantic reinforces Arai’s continued focus on safety and rider protection.

Manufactured by hand, the outer shell maintains core strength but with a substantial weight reduction. The smooth, round shape is a key Arai signature and primarily designed to ‘glance- off’ and spread impact forces, with our first fixed, dual purpose aerodynamic spoiler developed from our race helmets that increases stability and reduces buffeting at high speeds.

For easy access on and off the Quantic features a 5mm flare around the base and FCS cheekpads, with a new 3D logo vent system, complemented by brow vents in the VAS MAX vision visor. With Arai’s experience and know-how earned over millions of road & track miles, the new Quantic is a premium helmet that slips through the air neatly and efficiently, wrapping its wearer in a cocoon of luxury.

ECE R22.06 Safety Standard

Arai has been carrying out the new ECE R22.06 standard aims to replicate the effect of a real-life accident by introducing more representative drop tests compared to ECE 22.05 – taking into account different anvils, speeds and impact positions, as well as a demonstrable protection against neck twisting. Arai has been carrying out tests above the existing standard and will continue to develop our in house testing no matter what, as what we are seeking to protect is priceless.

To more accurately measure the ability of a helmet to protect against an impact, additional drop points were included in a drop test. The ECE R22.06 standard also requires additional visor testing, including a 134mph impact test, and tests to ensure that accessories such as vents or spoilers do not adversely affect the impact tests. Arai has always made sure these additions break away in the event of an impact to preserve the smooth, R75 shape.

In addition to the the ECE R22.06 standard, Arai’s in house standards require tests at higher speeds onto different surfaces – these are tests Arai introduced before ECE R22.06.

The new Quantic will be available in hand painted and applied Snake and Face graphics as well as a range of solid colours.

For more information on the Quantic, click here.

Yamaha Will Participate in 2021 EICMA Motorcycle Show

Yamaha Motor Europe announces that it will take part in the 2021 edition of the EICMA show which will be held from 23rd to 28th November.

Yamaha Motor Europe has made this decision thanks to the positive progression of the international and national vaccination programs and the steady easing of the restrictive measures against COVID-19 in Europe and Italy in particular. The expectation is that by the end of November visiting large exhibitions will be possible again. Preventive safety measures to contain COVID-19 will still be implemented, in cooperation with the EICMA organization, to secure a pleasant and safe visit to the show. In that respect, the size of the Yamaha stand will be enlarged in comparison to 2019 to allow visitors more personal space.

Eric de Seynes, President and CEO of Yamaha Motor Europe N.V., affirms: “The decision to attend EICMA was not an easy one to make for obvious reasons. However, after having observed the trend related to the evolution of COVID-19 and being reassured by the EICMA organization that we can provide a safe environment for all visitors, while allowing them to experience the event to the full, we believe it is the right decision to support the return of such an event. With arguably the largest international reach, EICMA has great significance for our industry, being a unique moment and place where the motorcycle community can come together to feel the reaction from media and customers to the new products, keeping the connection with them alive and providing inspiration towards future trends. While we have yet to return to what most of us consider normality, this year’s event provides the first opportunity for enthusiasts to come together and be connected again physically, rather than virtually.”

We hope to see you at the Yamaha stand in November.

Quadlock Motorcycle Phone Mount

Maja Kenney of Maja’s Motorcycle Adventures tests out the Quadlock Motorcycle Phone Mount.

I didn’t need it when I had one already and I am lost without it when I don’t have it!

Rather than buying a dedicated gadget for navigation, I use my mobile phone for that. I like it. It’s one less thing to charge and potentially forget to pack, plus it works great. Until recently I have used a universal phone mount which was absolutely fine if a little bit of a faff. I got used to it and it didn’t bother me. The mount consisted of two prongs that were joined but flexible in the middle and you had to push them apart to fit the phone inside. Then there was the rubber tether that went around each corner of the phone. Sometimes this was easy to do and then on the days of butter fingers it was a bit of a pain.

I have heard good things about Quad Lock, mainly from my son who uses it on his mountain bike and from fellow motorcyclists. Having practically zero handlebar space on my bike, I was pleased to see the stem mount fitted perfectly in the hollow where I had the previous mount. This ensured a fuss-free swap and a better fit straight away.

The mount came with the vibration dampener which is a must on a motorcycle with a V-twin engine as feedback from other users would suggests. iPhone cameras have been ruined with the vibration of the motorcycle before.

Once the phone mount is in place, attaching the phone to it is a doddle. You do need the specific case from Quad Lock for your phone as the back of the case is moulded to fit the mount on the bike. The case itself is very strong, I have dropped my phone several times already and the case protected it every time whilst the case itself still looks brand new.

The trick is to angle the phone at 45 degrees to the mount, push in and turn until it clicks in. Very quick and simple and it doesn’t take long to get used to it.

The first ride made me a bit nervous as the phone did shake more than I was used to. Or perhaps it was the same but I just noticed it now because it was a new thing. Not enough to really worry about it falling off, just something I clearly paid attention to more.

First photo stop. Oh, I should mention, I take hundreds of photos on every ride out. The reason for wanting to have my phone easily accessible is not just for the navigation but also for taking photos. Not to mention for making payments at petrol stations. A quick press of the release bar freed my phone, quick photo or several and back it went on the mount. Again and again and with each time I was doing it with less thought and quicker.

Wow, that was impressive. Within just a few hours of using the Quad Lock mount I started to love it! It was so easy to remove the phone and click it back in again I have already forgotten all about my previous setup.

After a few days of using it I decided to get the wireless charging head, too. Nothing worse than running out of charge on your phone just when you need it, right? The charging head was super easy to instal and it uses the bike’s USB port for power. I had to run the cable from under the seat and behind the fairings. Nothing a couple of small cable ties can’t do. So very quick and simple to do.

We get used to good things quickly and don’t think about them anymore. Until you sit on a different bike for a few days and it doesn’t have the same setup as yours. Doh! Out came the battery pack again and charging the phone when stopping resumed.

All in all, a fantastic bit of kit I would happily recommend!

Quadlock Review

Being unable to securely use your mobile phone on a bike can be frustrating, which is why most people avoid using them in the first place when they are riding a motorbike. There are virtually uncountable mobile phone holders available in the market designed specifically for two-wheelers, but unfortunately not all of them provide satisfactory performance. Thankfully, I have stumbled upon a good handlebar mountable iPhone holder that not only does its job well but at the same time also has a rather affordable price tag. The product I am referring to is made by Quad Lock and it comes with some other items as well which I will discuss here.

The Quad Lock Handlebar mount is the best choice when shopping for a mobile mount as it protects the phone from swinging due to high wind pressure at higher speeds. Motorcyclists also are accustomed to attaching their phones on the handlebar since it provides them a good line of visibility without compromising any safety aspects. The installation process for the Quad Lock Handlebar is pretty simple and straightforward, all you have to do is to figure out a convenient position for the holder and then screw together the mount, extension arm and the spacer (if there is a need to) using the Allen wrench provided. The spacers will only be needed if you want to raise the position of the phone.

Vibrations are the worst annoyance that usually occurs when a phone is attached to a holder. Quad Lock has developed a special Vibration dampener that absorbs all the vibrations whether they are coming from the handlebar or due to the wind. Luckily, I had ordered it with the mount which helps me in enjoying a seamless and steady experience whenever riding in windy weather, which is why I will surely recommend you to buy it along with the mount.

Unlike many other mounts where a dedicated mobile phone case isn’t provided or needed, the Quad Lock mount is only usable with a case. This is a good thing since it allowed me to attach the phone on the mount securely, which in turn essentially eliminated any chances of it falling on the road. Furthermore, the case is made using precise dimensions due to which I was able to easily plug in my headphone adaptor. The microfiber lining and the wireless charging adaptability further gives it a premium touch all the while increasing the convenience.

You can also add in a transparent protective poncho which will provide good shelter to your phone against harsh weather. Overall, the phone holder is a great product by Quad Lock that provides all the confidence that one requires from a good phone holder.  Its sturdy & user-friendly construction will allow you to get the most out of it for quite some time.

First Of Three Tattoo Inspired Art-Bike Designs Revealed By Indian Motorcycle

Internationally renowned tattoo artist Mayonaize makes his mark on the all-new Indian Motorcycle Chief.

The first of three headline artists work to be revealed in CGI as part of the ‘Indian Motorcycle X No Regrets’ tattoo art collaboration.

Indian Motorcycle unveil the first of three unique tattoo inspired designs, created by three iconic featured tattoo artists – Mayonaize, Shige and Carlos Torres – whose Indian Motorcycle Chief based works of art will each be revealed in high-resolution computer-generated imagery over the next three months.

Mayonaize, or mayo, is a New Zealand born artist living and working in Melbourne, Australia, who is known for bold, calligraphic script designs with a unique visual style. Mayo’s work is highly sought-after, not only as a tattooist, but also as a notable painter, his portfolio of exhibited artworks ranging from street art to interior canvases and large-scale murals.

Mayo hand painted his Chief design onto large scale templates before being photographed and rendered onto the tank and fenders to his exact specifications.

Mayonaize commented on the design process “I think the most interesting part is the way that all the panels fit together on the bike. I love the machining of the bike as well, so I was really interested in hero-ing that. You don’t want to just do something that’s not related to the flow of the bike, there’s lines to a bike like there’s lines and flow to a body – the focal point of the bike would be the tank and the engine beneath, so you want to hero the parts of the body that are the most interesting, the motorcycle creates the composition for the piece rather than just trying to put a flat image on each panel. I wanted it to look like it was one piece over the whole bike.”<

Mayonaize’s design will be applied to a real Indian Motorcycle Chief later this year and revealed in the metal at a VIP event in London in Spring 2022, alongside designs from artists Shige and Carlos Torres. Forty more of the world’s leading tattoo artists will all compete to have their Indian Motorcycle Chief designs made a reality in steel and paint later this Autumn by public vote.

Rocking the Road – BMW R 18 concept

Conjuring a bobber out of the R 18 was the goal for the Wunderlich engineers and the designer Nicolas Petit from the start. Meet the RockBob.

The inspiration came from the BMW R5, which undoubtedly contributed to the creation of the R 18, and is expressed in Nicolas Petit‘s design: portraying the essentials to the extreme. In doing so, he has emphasised the sheer importance of details from start to finish. One example is the brilliant tail end. The fender nestles like a second skin with minimal distance around the 200 size rear wheel, allowing the numberplate holder to be elegantly placed on the left side. The miniaturised 3in1 taillights are so cleverly concealed that one must thoroughly investigate the bike to spot them.

Everything at a Glance

RockBob Individual Customizing
Paint and Surface Treatment

  • High quality matte black painted and finished engine
  • Numerous chrome parts finished to a high standard and painted matte black
  • Series manifold and exhaust system from the BMW R 18 Classic with black heat-resistant ceramic coating
  • Tank finished in high-quality matte black and tone-on-tone, with gloss double-lining of parallel wide and narrow pin stripes
  • Custom Wunderlich front and rear fenders made of high grade aluminum, matte black finish with gloss double lining, matching the tank design and finish
  • Wunderlich‘s custom numberplate holder relocates it to the left side and allows space for the clean tail end. The RockBob perfectly integrates with the rear fender and the miniaturised, low-profile 3in1 tail lights.
  • Custom riser for the handlebar (Ø 32 mm)
  • Wunderlich engine plate with raised Wunderlich lettering

Upholstery

  • Classic upholstery: sprung saddle covered with selected cognac-colored leather – partially diamond stitched; the tanning allows the emergence of a dual patina
  • Leather-covered handlebar grips, designed and coloured to match the sprung saddle

Suspension and Wheels

  • Wheelset: rims, hubs, and spokes finished in black
  • Rear-wheel spoked to 6.00×16 with 200/60-16 tyre (standard 180 rear wheel), front 3.50×16 with 130/90-16 tyre

Wunderlich Components

  • Numerous components from the Wunderlich range are integrated into the RockBob: this includes the fenders, lateral license plate ho
  • lder, turn signals, handlebar end mirrors, adjustable clutch and brake levers, and much more. Wunderlich will soon add the sprung saddle to inventory for the R 18 series and supplement it with a black variant made of imitation leather.

Street legal

  • Wunderlich‘s conversion of the RockBob concept bike has been carried out – as always – to be street legal. This means that if the installed components are not already exempt from registration, they have German Type approval or can be registered through further assessment.
Wunderlich accessories for the BMW R 18 are available from their exclusive UK partner www.nippynormans.com

Taking part in the three ‘Weekly Challenges’ gives gamers the chance to feel like real racers and slip into the role of BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team riders Tom Sykes (GBR) and Michael van der Mark (NED).

The competition takes place on the RIDE 4 racing game. This is available on various games consoles (Playstation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X/S) and on Steam. During the one-week challenge, each player has an unlimited number of chances to fine-tune his racing line and set his personal best time.

As well as enjoying competing, entrants can also check out the official ranking in the BMW Motorrad Esports Challenge, view the opposition’s times and win attractive prizes by registering free of charge at https://b.mw/Motorrad_Esports_EN. BMW Motorrad Esports presents prizes to the ten fastest riders in each of the three ‘Weekly Challenges’ with the BMW M 1000 RR. The winners can each look forward to a motorcycle helmet.

The first BMW ‘Weekly Challenge’ took place between 26th April and 2nd May. A player from China set the fastest time of 1:24.605 minutes at the circuit in Donington. Round two takes place this week. The venue this time is the iconic circuit in Suzuka (JPN), at which entrants will ride at night. The third ‘Weekly Challenge’ is scheduled for 27th September to 3rd October.

Electric Paddock Power: Silence UK Partners With BSB’s Lee Jackson

Silence UK has announced its partnership with Bennetts British Superbike Championship rider Lee Jackson ready for this weekend’s event at Knockhill in Fife, Scotland.

The electric moto scooter brand has supplied its range-topping Silence S01 model, in the brand’s signature colour, as Jackson’s personal paddock bike for the 2021 season.

With zero emissions, an 80 mile range, top speed of 62mph and a 0-30mph of 3.9 seconds, the Silence S01 is a worthy performance partner capable of putting a smile on any superbike rider’s face.

FS-3 Kawasaki rider Jackson commented: “A massive thank you to Silence UK for putting their trust in me to showcase the new electric S01 scooter around the British Superbike scene. I first spotted Silence on Instagram and knew this was a brand I wanted to work with. I love the product and I’m going to enjoy getting people talking about and test riding these brilliant electric bikes.”

Founding partner of Silence UK, Tony Lewis, added: “This is a great partnership for us. Not only are we supporting a young exciting talent like Lee, but we are showcasing the Silence brand to the country’s most knowledgeable and passionate two-wheel audience. Some of our first customers were multi-bike owners and the electric Silence S01 has genuinely become their first choice for everyday journeys around their local area.”

Designed, engineered and manufactured in Spain, the Silence family of e-moto scooters are already big hit across the streets of Europe with customers appreciating the modern step-through design, simple twist-and-go throttle, effortless performance and signature ‘click & go’ portable battery. A four-model family offers a great choice for businesses, commuters and scooter lovers who want to go electric.

Silence UK launched in April this year opening a flagship store and headquarters in Solihull, West Midlands. The brand is in the process of appointing multiple agents across the UK and has already announced partners in Aberdeen, Norfolk, Belfast and Twickenham.
