The patented Knox Scaphoid Protection System (SPS) includes Micro-Lock under the pads for added impact absorption and this extends around the edge of the hand for maximum coverage.

Knox Handroid POD protects hands-down

Knox’s Handroid POD urban glove is now fully CE approved. The POD joins only a handful of riding gloves – including the ‘full-length’ version of the Handroid – that have achieved the stringent new prEN13594:2012 “Protective gloves for motorcycle riders” standard.

To meet the standard, the Handroid POD was subjected to 15 separate tests, designed to assess resistance to cuts and abrasions, tear and seam strength, impact protection and restraint – ensuring they won’t come off in an accident. Gloves are also tested for dexterity, to make sure the rider can still operate controls easily while wearing them.

Designed to offer the urban rider the same level of protection and unique cool styling as the acclaimed Handroid, the Handroid POD features three patented elements: a live exoskeleton covering the fingers and thumbs; Knox’s SPS scaphoid protection system and Boa lacing, which is located on the side of the cuff for a better fit under the sleeves of riding jackets.

The Knox Handroid POD retails at £149.99 including VAT and comes in sizes XS-XXL. For more information call Knox on O19OO 825825 or visit www.planet-knox.com

Knox 2017 Preview

Launched in 2014, the revolutionary Knox Layering System has changed the way riders think about – and wear – motorcycle clothing. Instead of attaching armour and insulation to a motorcycle jacket, making it bulky and ill-fitting, Knox turned traditional thinking on its head by developing a system based around layers – base layer for comfort, armoured layer form protection, mid-layer for warmth & outer layer for protection from the elements.  This approach is now becoming mainstream as more & more riders accept it as the ideal solution for bike wear.

Not only does the Knox Layering system make motorcycle clothing better fitting and more comfortable, but thanks to the Dual Fit System, jackets can be adjusted so that they can be worn casually, unlike traditional bike jackets, which become saggy when the armour is removed.

Styled in the company’s London design studio and combining its award-winning protection with other patented technologies, the range has evolved yet further for 2017.

Unveiled at Motorcycle Live last month, the 2017 additions to the Knox Layering Range are generating excitement from new and existing customers, particularly striking a chord with riders looking for a different and more secure way to wear armour, and to those needing a more flexible ‘everyday’ solution to rider wear.

The new Knox Layering Range will officially hit the stores in February 2017, but a selection of the new additions will be on stand at the MCN London Motorcycle Show earlier that month.

In the meantime, check out the video of the Knox 2017 collection for a sneak preview of what’s to come:

FREE Armoured Shirt with ALL KNOX Jackets

KNOX launch a limited time promotion in the run up to Christmas 2016.

KNOX are running the promotion to encourage riders to experience their innovative Layering System, in which the outer jackets feature a unique Dual Fit zip design.

The promotion includes an armoured shirt (worth £99.99) supplied free when you buy an outer jacket from their revolutionary Layering System, purchased before 24th December 2016.

This special offer includes the Roscoe & Roberta leather jackets, All Sports waterproof textiles and the Leonard & Lea wax waterproof jackets. Like the jackets, the armoured shirts are available in men’s and women’s sizes and styles.

Styled and tailored to wear every day without integral bulky armour, Studio Collection jackets feature an innovative dual fit zip arrangement, which changes the fit in the arms and body, so that an armoured shirt can be worn comfortably beneath, making it a perfect functioning motorcycle jacket when it’s time to ride.

The Armoured Shirt features low profile Knox Lite+ protectors built into the shoulders and elbows, plus a Knox Back Protector. Combined with stretchy, lightweight and breathable elastane fabric, the Shirt sits neatly under motorcycle jackets, without looking bulky, and keeps the armour securely in place.

Prices for the Studio outer jackets start at £229.99 and all qualify for a free Knox Armoured Shirt (SRP £99.99) in either men’s or women’s sizes.

Customers who also buy a matching Thermal Quilted Jacket (SRP £39.99) have the option to upgrade the Armoured Shirt to a Knox Urbane Shirt (worth £129.99).

For details on the Knox layering system call 01900 825825 or visit www.planet-knox.com

Knox Layering for Women

Men & women need specifically designed motorcycle clothing, not only because they are different shapes, but also because they tend to feel heat and cold differently.

A recent study by Dutch scientists suggested that contrasting metabolic rates cause women to feel the cold more quickly, while men struggle in hotter conditions.

The unique layering system from Knox enables women riders to achieve a perfect fit that is comfortable whatever the weather.

Starting with a base layer, made from Merino Perform Advantage wool, a clever combination of super soft Australian Merino wool mixed with cooling and fast drying synthetic fibres, body temperature is regulated.

Next comes an armoured shirt, tailored specifically for women, with CE-approved impact protectors designed for the female form, so that the armour sits comfortably in exactly the right place, without looking bulky.

In colder conditions, a quilted jacket or windproof Cold Killers mid-layer can be added, either of which can be kept on once the outer layer is removed, unlike traditional bike jackets with a thermal lining attached to the outer shell.

And finally an outer layer – Knox offer a choice of waterproof wax style jackets or a classically styled leather jacket. Both use an innovative dual fit zip system, which runs along the inside of the sleeve and body of the jacket. With the zip open, you can wear an armoured shirt under the jacket; with the zip closed, the jacket is the perfect size to wear casually, without protection.

Knox Zephyr waterproof Overjacket for Him & Her

Knox designed this lightweight waterproof shell to fit neatly over their new Zephyr summer riding jacket. Perfect for unpredictable rainy weather in the summer, the Zephyr allows wearers to extend their riding season into the autumn.

The soft polyester shell has a laminated waterproof and breathable membrane and all seams are taped, to ensure that water stays on the outside.

Outer and inner storm flaps help to prevent rain entry through the front YKK® zip and the cuffs have adjustable stud fastening.

Reflectra® reflective material on the main body and neckline appears black in natural daylight, but becomes reflective in headlights, for better visibility in low light conditions.

Packing away into its own small zipped carry pouch, the overjacket fits neatly into a concealed back pocket on the Zephyr jacket for men and can be attached to the belt on the women’s version.

Available in three Sizes – S/M, L/XL & XXL/3XL – the Zephyr Waterproof Overjacket retails at £49.99 including VAT.

Knox – Choosing summer riding kit

Key considerations when choosing summer riding gear, from motorcycle clothing and protection experts Knox:

  • Breathability – sounds obvious, but having riding gear that incorporates airflow will make summer riding much more comfortable; allowing cool air to circulate around your body and preventing the buildup of moisture.
  • Flexibility – the ability to remove and add layers as the conditions change should also be a key consideration when choosing summer kit. Reacting to changes in temperature and conditions quickly and easily can make a huge difference to the ride.
  • Convenience – the ability to get into your riding kit quickly and with the minimum of fuss is also crucial in warmer conditions – the sooner you can get dressed and out riding in the cool breeze, the better. Getting out of it all again at your destination is also important.
  • Protection – alongside keeping you cool and comfortable, your summer kit needs to offer good levels of protection, for both abrasion and impact. Staying cool is one thing, but staying safe is priority number one.

Selected Knox summer riding kit options, from the 2016 range:

Urbane Armoured Shirt – £139.99 (inc VAT)

Zephyr Riding Jacket – £199.99 (inc VAT)

Richmond and Roseberry Jeans  – from £129.99 (inc VAT)

Hanbury and Hadleigh Gloves – from £69.99 (inc VAT)

Elite protection from new Knox Defender

The result of valuable feedback from sports bike riders, the Knox Defender Elite combines ‘track’ levels of protection with the comfort and convenience of an armoured shirt.

PROTECTION:
Alongside the Knox CE-approved armour in the shoulders and elbows, the new Defender Elite is fitted with a full length Aegis back protector.

Technically advanced, and fully CE certified to Level 2 – the highest rating of the latest back protector standard – the unique Honeycomb Plate Design and Inclined Cell Wall Technology on the Aegis give consistent protection throughout the stringent tests.

Flex channels allow the spine section to articulate, moving with the rider and allowing it to sit perfectly around the contours of the back. A layer of EVA foam is incorporated on the inside for extra spinal protection, and a fully adjustable and removable soft PU kidney section is also included.

A lightweight CE-approved chest protector is also fitted to the Defender Elite as standard. It can be adjusted to suit the wearer, or removed altogether.

COMFORT:
British arrownet mesh on the front and back has a waffle-like construction that promotes maximum airflow, while the moisture-wicking Italian Carvico bi-elastic micro mesh on the sleeves and side panels is highly breathable, to keep the skin fresh and dry, preventing irritation and itching.

Tough, abrasion-resistant two-way stretch panels feature on the shoulders and elbows, to aid flexibility and movement.

The low profile cut of both the Aegis and the shoulder and elbow protectors, means it can fit under close-fitting jackets and suits comfortably.

A soft Leather collar and the Defender’s tailored fit aid all-day comfort.

CONVENIENCE:
Naturally, all the armour in the Defender Elite can be removed for washing, but unlike any other garment of this type, the wearer simply zips the shirt off the back protector – no fiddly pockets or fasteners to wrestle with – making it very easy to keep it fresh and clean throughout the riding season.

The Aegis back protector also has a removable and washable spacer fabric liner for extra freshness.

The new Knox Defender Elite comes in sizes S–3XL, in classic Black and Grey and is priced at £249.99 including VAT.

Hadleigh – first ladies glove from Knox

The Hadleigh is the first Knox glove designed specifically for women, and features OutDry® waterproof technology along with Knox SPS.

Designed in London to complement the Studio Collection Jackets and Jeans for women, the Hadleigh is a classically styled short-cuff riding glove made from 0.8 mm cowhide leather.

Unlike traditional waterproof liners, which are sandwiched between the glove’s outer shell and inner lining, the Hadleigh features an OutDry membrane that is bonded directly to the leather exterior. As a result the gloves do not look or feel any thicker than most summer motorcycle gloves.

This innovative technology prevents water building up between the outer layer and the waterproof liner used in most gloves, and it also seals the stitching and joins. OutDry is highly breathable – it allows perspiration to push through the glove with ease – making riding in hot conditions more bearable.

On the palms, low profile Scaphoid protectors shield the vulnerable carpal bones in the event of a fall and there is a soft gel knuckle guard too.

Nubuck palm overlay aids grip on the handlebars, which is useful in damp conditions.

The stretch leather cuff with YKK zip closure give a comfortable and snug fit, while the Hadleigh’s short cuff design allows it to sit neatly under the sleeve of a riding jacket.

Available in sizes S-XL, the The Hadleigh retails at £89.99 including VAT. Call Knox on 01900 825 825 or visit: www.planet-knox.com for details

Zephyr Armoured Summer Riding Jackets

The Zephyr is the first armoured jacket from Knox that is designed specifically for summer riding, in both men’s and women’s styles, which also looks stylish on and off the bike.

This completely new concept solves the problem faced by many riders in hot or humid climates – finding clothing that will shield them from impact and abrasion but won’t be too warm for the conditions.

All too often motorcyclists discard their jackets when the temperature rises too far and resort to riding in just an armoured shirt or without any protection at all, in a desperate attempt to avoid over-heating.

Combining the best features of a mesh jacket and an armoured shirt the Zephyr delivers full venting, reinforced with abrasion-resistant fabrics and with the reassurance of class-leading Knox CE-protectors covering the shoulders, elbows and back.

  • Fully vented – Arrownet mesh stretches nearly the full length of the front and back panels, and down each arm too. This reassuringly tough, yet light and comfy, mesh fabric allows maximum airflow, keeping the rider’s core cool and stopping the build-up of perspiration. Lined with fine soft-cotton, it’s also comfortable against the skin.
  • Abrasion resistant – High tenacity nylon covers the shoulders, upper back and the outside of the arms – the areas most vulnerable in a slide or fall. Chosen for its significant strength, durability and abrasion resistance, the material is also breathable and stretchy, for added comfort and ease of movement, both on and off the bike.
  • Impact-protection – Knox Lite+ CE-approved protectors are built into the shoulders and elbows, with a CE-approved Knox Back Protector covering the back. There’s also the option to fit a chest protector. Each protector has a low profile cut, smooth finish, thin edging and much greater articulation than hard armour. The Zephyr’s stretchy fabric and tailored fit, means each piece sits firmly where it’s needed.

The men’s version features two-position popper adjustment at the waist and cuffs for a snug and secure fit.

The ladies has zipped cuffs and a stylish real leather waist belt, for a more feminine style and fit.

Both versions have outside pockets; high quality YKK zips throughout; a soft, ribbed collar for comfort; and both can be machine washed, with the protectors removed.

The Knox Zephyr provides comfort, style and confidence – whether you’re riding in hotter climates or navigating the heat of the city. The men’s version comes in sizes S-3XL (38”-50”); the ladies in XS-3XL (UK Size 8-20). Both retail at £199.99 including VAT.

There’s also a waterproof overjacket in both men’s and women’s styles that can be purchased separately to fit neatly over the Zephyr jacket. Each overjacket folds away into its own zipped carry bag for easy storage.

The men’s over jacket fits into the concealed zipped back pocket on the Zephyr and the ladies overjacket slides neatly onto the leather belt.

Both waterproof overjackets retail at £49.99.

KNOX Studio Jeans – Not your average denim

New to the Knox Studio Collection, Richmond and Roseberry riding jeans blend high end fashion fit and style, with the latest performance fabrics and an ingenious protection system, for a seamless transition between life on and off the bike.  They deliver all you would expect from a favourite pair of jeans, but built for motorcycling.

On the bike, the 12oz Cordura® denim fabric – four times stronger than traditional denim – and Dupont Kevlar® lining offer high abrasion resistance. Slim Knox Lite Plus knee and hip protectors – supplied with the jeans as standard – guard against impact.

Both the men’s Richmond and women’s Roseberry jeans feature a smart system that holds the knee protectors comfortably in position when riding. A unique feature to the Studio Denim collection, the knee armour is accessed from the outside by a discreet zip, so it can be removed in seconds, without needing to remove the jeans or pull the protectors from the lining. It also means there are no fasteners inside the jeans, which could irritate the legs.

Carefully tailored in the Knox London Design Studio for a flattering fit on the waist, hips and legs, the Richmond and Roseberry are styled to fit, feel and look like high end fashion jeans.

Produced in classic blue or black, with subtle detailing and logos, extra care is taken in the construction of the Kevlar lining to avoid bulky exterior seams.

Richmond jeans come in men’s sizes S-3XL with an inside leg of 33 inches; the Roseberry are available in sizes 8-18, with a 32-inch leg.

Prices start from £129.99 including VAT. Call Knox on 01900 825825 or visit www.planet-knox.com for details.

Knox Zero 2 OutDry 2016 Evolution

Evolved for winter 2015/2016, Knox Zero 2 OutDry® gloves now feature impact-absorbing silicone gel beneath the floating knuckle protection.

Each Zero 2 glove is made from goat leather, with kangaroo leather on the palm, Pittards digital goat on the palm overlay and knuckles and an OutDry® waterproof membrane bonded directly to the inside. OutDry® prevents the build-up of water between the outer and inner layers, often experienced with traditional waterproof inserts, and seals stitching and joins too.

And that’s not all! To qualify for a licence to use OutDry®, every single glove must be waterproof-tested before leaving the factory, so that any faults are found at source. Representatives from OutDry® recently visited the factory and conducted random testing on the Zero 2 production line. Their inspection showed a minute 0.008% failure rate – proving the ultra-high production quality.

As an added barrier against rain, TPR blades are injected onto the 600D Cordura on the top of the hand to help divert water off the glove. Combined with the Zero 2’s 115g Primaloft Gold insulation and a Bemberg polyester micro-fleece liner, it helps keep the wearer warm and comfortable. There’s also a TPR visor wipe on the left thumb, for clearer vision, and silicon prints on the end of the first two fingers, giving increased grip on wet levers.

Should the worst happen, patented Knox Dual Compound SPS Scaphoid Protection System, provides abrasion resistance and shields the vulnerable bone in the wrist.

Box construction and accordion stretch panels on the fingers and thumb offer increased flexibility and dexterity, while the low profile cuff section, with waterproof zip, helps Zero 2 fit quickly and easily under jacket cuffs.

Zero 2 OutDry® gloves are available in black, sizes S-XXL, at a recommended retail price of £129.99 including VAT. Call 01900 825825 or visit www.planet-knox.com

The Layering Principle

Effective layering systems help riders deal with the varied weather conditions and temperatures frequently thrown at them while on the road, reducing perspiration and overheating on the warmer days, while insulting and protecting from wind chill when the temperature drops.

Layering enables people to make quick adjustments as the weather changes; adding or removing layers to keep them comfortable and focussed on riding.

Each layer has a function: the base layer (against the skin) manages moisture, helping to regulate body temperature by moving perspiration away from the skin to the outside of the fabric, where it can evaporate. The mid-layer is for insulating, protecting from the cold and trapping a layer of warm air close to the body, while the shell or outer layer shields from wind and rain.

Layering with Modern Textile Clothing

Most modern textile bike jackets are fitted with waterproof and windproof liners (e.g. Gore-Tex) and many have thermal lining too, made using insulating materials, such as Thinsulate. However, cold draughts frequently find their way in, through collars, cuffs and around zips & fasteners, forcing out body heat and causing rapid drops in temperature. Because base- and mid-layers are worn next to the body, they provide more efficient insulation.

Dry Inside and Cold Killers from Knox regulate and stabilise body temperature and – unlike layers made from conventional/traditional fabrics – are designed to be comfortable and less restrictive under riding kit.

Dry Inside base layers are made from MerinoPerform™ Advantage – a combination of soft Australian Merino wool and fast drying synthetic fibres – and are designed to move vapour and sweat away from the body quickly, keeping you dry and cool on warmer days and insulating when the temperature drops.

Australian Merino is amongst the finest and lightest wool available, with a silky outer layer, so it won’t itch or irritate like other wools can. All Dry Inside garments feature soft seam construction for added comfort and also have a natural resistance to the bacteria that causes odour.

Cold Killers mid layers feature Softshell fabric construction: a three-ply laminate, with a tough and tightly woven stretch fabric on the outside, a laminated membrane, and 3-D fleece liner.

The three-layer system acts as a barrier against the wind – helping to reduce the effects of wind chill – and allows warm air to circulate round the skin, reducing the overheat/chill-down cycle associated with conventional layering. It’s also water repellent and breathable, so it helps prevent water ingress and the build-up of moisture from perspiration too.

It’s also extremely thin and flexible, eliminating the need for extra bulky layers, allowing freedom of movement, and ensuring there are no ‘tight spots’ to restrict circulation.

Although designed primarily for motorcycling, both the Dry Inside and Cold Killers collections work seamlessly in a variety of other outdoor activities, including cycling and hiking, in all seasons and climates.

Styled in Knox’s London Design Studio, and made in their Lake District factory, they can be worn as casual apparel too, so there’s no need to carry additional clothing to change into when you reach your destination.

Knox Dry Inside – new Ladies Collection

Knox have introduced their first ever range of technical base layers styled and cut specifically for women. Created in the company’s London Design Studio and made in their Lake District factory, the new Dry Inside collection redefines the look, feel and functionality of women’s base layers.

Using a revolutionary fabric technology called MerinoPerform™ Advantage – a combination of super soft Australian Merino wool and fast drying synthetic fibres – Dry Inside moves vapour and sweat away from the body quickly, keeping the wearer cool on spring/summer days and warm through the chill of autumn/winter.

Australian Merino is amongst the finest and lightest wool available, so it’s soft and comfortable next to the skin. It has a silky outer layer, so it won’t itch or irritate like some wool and synthetic fabrics, and has a natural resistance to the bacteria that causes odour.

Merino’s natural properties and elasticity means that the garments keep their shape, drape naturally and won’t ‘cling’. All Dry Inside garments feature soft seam construction too, for added comfort.

Combined with the new Knox Armoured Shirt for Women – a lightweight, stretchy and breathable shirt with Knox Lite + CE-approved protectors on the shoulders and elbows, and a Level 1 CE-approved back protector too – Dry Inside offers complete climate control, comfort and protection whilst riding.

Alongside motorcycling, the collection is designed to work for a variety of outdoor activities, including jogging, skiing, cycling and hiking, in all seasons and climates. They’re also styled so they can be worn as casual apparel.

The Darcy short sleeve top is £49.99 including VAT and the long-sleeve Clara, which has feminine splits at the side that can also be tied, is £54.99. Unisex Jesse shorts are £29.99 and Jamie trousers are £49.99. Call 01900 825825 or visit www.planet-knox.com to view the complete collection

Knox All Sports – transforming textile motorcycle jacket

Designed for people with a sense of adventure both on and off two wheels, the multi-activity All Sports jacket from the Knox Studio Collection provides comfort, waterproofing, protection and style in one flexible garment.

Providing for a seamless transition between life on and off the bike, the All Sports features the Studio Collection’s unique Dual Fit System: open up the underarm zips for a close and perfect fit over any Knox armoured shirt on the bike; remove the armoured layer, close the zip and the jacket is now ready to wear in everyday life and for other outdoor sports.

The Dual Fit System transforms the traditional approach to armoured textile jackets, which are too bulky to wear for anything other than motorcycling with the armour fitted and too baggy if the protectors are removed.

All Sports jackets are made from a textured woven twill with abrasion-resistant panels of stretch fabric across the shoulders and elbows. A high performance waterproof/breathable 10k membrane is laminated to the fabric shell, which also has a Durable Water Resistant (DWR) finish, so that water will bead off the surface, preventing the jacket from becoming water-logged. Ad the main front zip is a water resistant YKK Aquaguard®.

Ribbed collar and cuffs add protection against the cold and are removable in warmer weather, while three concealed YKK zipped vents on front shoulders and back can be opened to allow a cooling breeze to circulate in warmer conditions.

A breathable cotton interior lining is used for the body, with taffeta inside the sleeves that makes getting the jacket on and off easy.

All Sports Jackets are designed to be work over any armoured shirts from Knox, all of which are breathable, moisture wicking, soft and stretchy, with CE-approved armour at shoulders, elbows and back, so that the wearer is protected but has total freedom of movement.

Combined with a quilted thermal jacket or any of Knox’s Dry Inside or Cold Killers base and mid-layers, it makes a complete and flexible system.

The All Sports is available for men in Black and Black/Grey, sizes S-3XL and retails for £229.99. Prices for armoured shirts start at £99.99 and the thermal quilted jacket is £39.99.
