Inspired by timeless classics and iconic BMW Motorrad details, the new Heritage Collection combines traditional style with the best of what contemporary and authentic motorcycle lifestyle clothing has to offer. All the materials and textiles used are robust and long-lasting and they fulfil the highest standards of safety and functionality.
The famous colour identity of the early classic motorcycles – bold black metal parts adorned with the fine white decorative lines, the so-called TwinStripes – is reflected throughout the entire collection. The original branding and the BMW metal emblem are also incorporated in the design. The copper-coloured details and visual accents displayed in these garments hark back to the materials used in classic BMW motorcycles. The new collection celebrates the history of BMW Motorrad and its longlasting passion for motorcycling.
The history of BMW Motorrad dates back to 1923. The first BMW motorcycle to go into production was the R32 – naturally equipped with an air-cooled, two-cylinder flat-twin boxer engine. In 1978, BMW Motorrad became a pioneer in a completely new field, as one of the first serial-production manufacturers in the world to introduce its own rider equipment range.
The Heritage segment was established with the market launch of the BMW R nineT in 2014 and has since become one of the most important segments of the BMW Motorrad brand. In the coming year, the segment is set to expand into fully new dimensions. BMW Motorrad has announced the launch of a serial-production motorcycle for the second half of 2020, which will mark its entry into the Cruiser segment.
The BMW Motorrad Heritage Collection will be available from January 2020. In addition to this collection, all other new BMW Motorrad Rider Equipment products will be presented, as always at the EICMA 2019 motorshow in Milan.
R nineT /5: Exclusive model to mark the 50th anniversary of the /5 series and 50 years of BMW Motorrad production in Berlin Spandau.
Classic, authentic, original – and air-cooled. This is what the BMW R nineT models stand for. The new R nineT /5 provides another addition to the successful BMW Motorrad Heritage world of experience, this time with special historical roots: the model marks the 50th anniversary of the legendary /5 series and at the same time the start of BMW Motorrad production at the BMW plant in Berlin Spandau 50 years ago.
A look back to the past with the future in mind: the /5 series as a historical archetype.
BMW automobile production increased enormously in the 1960s, so the decision was taken to build BMW motorcycles in Berlin. Operations got underway in 1969 with some 400 staff and a new series: the /5 models R 50/5, R 60/5 and R 75/5. With a completely newly developed chassis and engine along with a fresh, modern design, BMW made a lasting impact on the expanding motorcycle market of the time. The /5 models saw instant success, thrilling customers with a combination of riding dynamics on country roads and travel comfort.
The new BMW motorcycles perfectly matched an age defined by upheaval, rock music and a powerful sense of freedom. As a reflection of this, a wide range of bold, bright body colours was available for the new /5 models.
The BMW Motorrad anniversary model R nineT /5 not only marks the 50th anniversary of the /5 series and 50 years of BMW Motorrad production in Berlin Spandau, however. Fitted as standard with heated grips, the R nineT /5 also rekindles memories of that bygone era, bringing the /5 models back to life with nostalgic charm but in a contemporary form.
Painstaking details in the style of the /5 models for a harmonious overall package.
The anniversary model features contemporary knee pads, for example, as well as an elaborate body finish in Lupine Blue metallic with smoke effect and double line marking on the fuel tank, which bears the anniversary emblem. Chrome for the rear mirrors, exhaust manifold and rear silencer likewise hark back to the historical archetype, as does the double seat contoured in the style of the /5 with cross-embossing on the cover, grab straps and white piping as well as gaiters on the telescopic fork.
The coating of the engine, gearbox, fork slider tubes, wheel hubs and spokes in Aluminium Silver also stylishly evokes the legendary /5 models, as do the components finished in black such as the frame and the propeller shaft casing.

For more than 90 years, the 2-cylinder boxer engine has been a key element of the BMW Motorrad identity, in both technological and visual terms. But as the BMW Group consistently pursues electrification, the question arises as to what a BMW motorcycle might look like that is electrically powered? And how would it reveal itself at first sight to be a BMW? One possible answer to these questions is provided by the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster, a highly emotional naked bike with electric drive.
“The boxer engine is the heart of BMW Motorrad – an absolute stalwart of its character. But BMW Motorrad stands for visionary zero-emissions vehicle concepts, too. In view of this, one question that arises is: what would happen if we were to replace the boxer engine with an electric motor and the required battery? The Vision Bike shows how we’re able to retain the identity and iconic appearance of BMW Motorrad in distinctive form while at the same time presenting an exciting new type of riding pleasure,” explains Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design BMW Motorrad. “After all: anyone who’s ever tried it out in practice knows very well that riding on two wheels is just as exciting when its electrically powered! The high level of torque right at set-off makes for breath taking acceleration. This almost brutal power delivery creates a whole new experience of dynamic performance. And the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster puts a face to this experience.”
New drive, familiar appearance.
In a motorcycle, the motor is the centrepiece – it is the fundamental element, providing the basis for the entire architecture. But electrical drive components have completely different requirements in terms of installation space. While in a conventional motorbike the size of the engine is mainly determined by its capacity, it is the battery that takes up most space in the case of an electrically powered vehicle. The electric motor itself is relatively compact. Starting from this new basis, the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster is able to make this transfer – retaining the iconic appearance of a boxer while filling it with a new function. This is why the Vision Bike is instantly recognisable as a BMW motorcycle, revealing its electric nature on closer inspection.
Replacing what would previously have been the engine, there is now a vertically fitted, longitudinally oriented battery. For cooling purposes, two side elements protrude with cooling ribs and integrated ventilators. As in the boxer engine of the BMW R 32 – the development of which was masterminded by Max Friz in 1923 – the cooling elements are placed in the air stream. The cylinder-shaped electric motor is positioned underneath the battery and is directly connected to the universal shaft. The BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster thus demonstrates a clever drive architecture that visually echoes the history of BMW Motorrad while at the same time taking it a step further.
Dynamic performance reflected in the proportions.
In the side view, the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster presents a highly dynamic gesture with clear front-wheel orientation. The low front section and the short, high rear convey a sense of agility. Instead of the fuel tank, a flat, finely-wrought tubular structure spans the vehicle corpus. Its further shaping integrates the seat in a modern form, thereby creating the flyline of a sporty roadster. The frame structure is a key factor in defining the dynamic side view.
The large battery with its laterally protruding cooling systems is positioned at the centre of a frame milled from aluminium. The three-dimensional surface finish on the battery trim conveys a contemporary aesthetic appeal with its precise contours. The cooling elements echo the slight forward tilt of the battery silhouette, giving the side a dynamic momentum. When starting the electric motor, these cooling elements move out slightly, indicating that the bike is ready to go.
High performance with a light touch.
The overall appearance of the BMW Motorrad Vision DC conveys a sense of lightness so as to emphasise driving dynamics. Elements such as the seat and the cooling system appear to hover around the battery. On the frame itself, lengthwise milled grooves create a fascinating visual effect, reducing the perceived volume and highlighting the bike’s longitudinal dynamics. This impression is further underscored by means of openings in the milled aluminium frame and the tubular frame structure arranged above it. High-tech materials such as carbon fibre and aluminium reduce the overall weight and give the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster a technical aesthetic. Meanwhile, red contrast elements and brushed aluminium at selected points such as the battery, frame and cool systems emphasise the bike’s innovative geometry.
High-quality details on closer inspection.
A key element of the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster’s captivating overall appeal is the elaborate finish to be found in all its details. Within the mainly dark colour concept, it is the mechanical elements such as the exposed universal shaft and the Duolever fork that add striking accentuations. In this case, the two classic BMW features are re-interpreted and elaborately showcased. In the same way, the suggested triangular frame echoes a typical feature of earlier BMW motorcycle models, even recapturing its white lines, which in this instance fluoresce in the dark. The minimalist design of the front and rear lights is an iconic implementation of the hallmark BMW Motorrad lighting, reflecting maximum reduction in modern style. The headlamp shows the LED daytime riding light in a dynamic, flat U shape, while two compact LED lenses on each side provide the low and high beam. This creates a hallmark lighting design that makes the concept vehicle instantly recognisable as a BMW motorcycle – both during the day and at night. The rear light consists of two C-shaped LED elements which are integrated in the aluminium rear carrier in minimalist, technically high-quality form. On the flanks of the tires exclusively made by Metzeler for the Vision Bike, five fluorescent elements, each about the size of a postage stamp, are integrated. They combine innovative design with safety aspects: standing and moving, the lighting elements create an exciting graphic effect. In darkness, they increase the visibility from the side and thus providing more security. They also convey dynamics when in motion. Smart rider equipment.
The functional two-piece suit is not instantly recognisable as protective clothing: it is an outfit that primarily stands as a modern, emotional fashion statement. The light jacket with large graphics in iridescent colouring and the casually styled black trousers combine fashion sense with new functionalities. The protectors are sewn in almost invisibly, while integrated technologies enable various light functions as well as the digital connectivity of the future. An asymmetrical rucksack vest rounds off the rider equipment for the vision vehicle. Fixed to the jacket by means of magnets, it provides storage space and additional functionality. The permanent magnets means that the rucksack is quick to put on and take off.

All eyes will be on you. The decor sticker sets by BMW Motorrad are perfectly harmonised with the design and geometry of the bike and make for a unique look. They are available in a large number of colour combinations and designs and are suitable for every type of driving style giving the motorcycle a very individual and stylish appearance. High-contrast and colourful motifs extend along the entire bike ensuring a striking visual impact.

Every design has been carefully coordinated with the special properties of each motorcycle. The availability of the sets is dependent on the models since each sticker set has been made specially for each specific bike model.
Depending on the model, the sets feature stickers for fairing parts, wheel rims and cases as well as for wheel covers, fuel tank, topcase, aluminium or spoke wheel rims. Naturally the necessary mounting accessories and tools for attaching the stickers in bubble-free manner are also included.
The sticker stets are produced using a sophisticated screen-printing process in which the printing colour is printed directly onto the material. The colour is applied through a textile fabric using a rubber scraper. This results in a thicker colour layer compared to alternative printing methods and makes possible more powerful colour effects. Against the backdrop of a bustling mix of the traditional and the modern on show at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, BMW Motorrad presents an engaging alternative for a time that is being increasingly characterised by rapid technological change. You could see it as a return to the brand’s core, but given a modern twist: the BMW Motorrad Concept R 18 transports the essence of the big BMW Motorrad classics into the modern age, or in other words, it is taking a historical motorcycle design and giving it a modern, custom attitude. Dr. Markus Schramm, head of BMW Motorrad, describes the design as follows: “With this dream bike, BMW Motorrad presents its own version of an emotional and authentic offer for the large cruiser segment.”
The BMW Motorrad Concept R 18 shows how a forward projection of a 1960s boxer engine could look like today as a purist custom bike in combination with all the classic design icons of BMW Motorrad design. “With its clear aesthetics openly on display, the Concept R 18 embodies for me what motorcycling, at its core, is really about. It is all about feeling instead of thinking, and not using technology for self-staging, instead giving space for imagination. This concept bike appeals to something deep down – you just want to just get on it and ride off. But when you get off it again, you don’t just put it in the garage and walk away – you turn around again and give it a final parting glance”, explains Edgar Heinrich, head of BMW Motorrad Design.
Consistently purist design with timeless proportions.
The BMW Motorrad Concept R 18 is the essence of motorcycling, a bike in its original, natural form. In true custom style, it celebrates the art of leaving out what you don’t need and then concentrating on what is left. “The biggest challenge in the design is to render everything visible. Every part has a functional purpose. There are not many who would dare to take such an absolutely honest approach”, says Bart Janssen Groesbeek, designer of the concept bike. The BMW Motorrad Concept R 18 is immediately recognisable as a genuine BMW: boxer engine, cradle frame, exposed universal shaft and drop-shaped fuel tank with its black paintwork and hand-applied contrast lines interpret typical design icons of BMW Motorrad classics, while displaying confidence along with modern-style linearity. The balanced proportions are reminiscent of classics like the BMW R 5, and convey – even from a distance – the timeless beauty that comes about whenever things are consistently reduced to their bare essentials. The frame and tank create a common line all the way from the steering head to the rear wheel hub and lend a flowing elegance to the side view. The large spoke wheels (front 21 inch, rear 18 inch) provide a secure stance and perfectly balance the dominant power unit. The tyres are a further reference to history: just as it was in its day, this bike is again fitted with Metzeler tyres.
The BMW boxer tradition brings out new splendour.
The heart of the BMW Motorrad Concept R 18 is the large, newly designed, two-cylinder 1800 cc boxer engine. Its outward appearance is consciously reminiscent of the flat twin engines that BMW Motorrad used to build up until the end of the 1960s – but with a considerably bigger displacement and modern air/oil cooling. The big prototype boxer has been designed down to the last detail: the engine block and transmission are made of glass bead-blasted aluminium, providing an ideal stage on which to present the hand-polished aluminium components as well as the belt guard and valve covers. The engine badge bears the name of the concept bike and emphasises the overall quality. In addition, Solex dual carburettors – similar to those in the BMW 2002 – hark back to the brand’s construction history and add the final touch to the bike’s visual authenticity.
Another optical highlight is the exposed, chrome-plated universal shaft that connects the back wheel to the drive. There are no further covers anywhere on the motorcycle, which serves to keep its engineering clearly visible. Similarly, the electronics of the concept bike are reduced to no more than starter and lights, underlining its purist design.
The BMW Motorrad Concept R 18 is the third in-house interpretation of the large-capacity boxer engine to come from BMW Motorrad. Last December the model created by the Japanese customisers, CUSTOM WORKS ZON was presented at the Yokohama Hot Rod Show, on the basis of this new prototype engine. The ‘Departed’ won the biggest accolade of the event, the ’Best of Show Motorcycle’ award, thrilling motorcycle fans with its classic forms, modern production techniques and all manner of manual art and craft in the details. The next round was the interpretation by Revival Cycles.
The customisers from Austin, Texas created a spectacular bike with their ‘Revival Birdcage’ model, an ideal presentation platform for the Big Boxer. The specially developed titanium frame features an unobstructed view of the engine and drive from all angles. This American design created a furore at last month’s Handbuilt Show in Texas.
High quality details in fine custom work.
As for its colour design, the BMW Motorrad Concept R 18 shows itself to be a classic. The theme is typical BMW: the white, hand-applied lines on the fork and fuel tank in combination with the black base colour represent the classic BMW colour theme. A discreet yellow-gold varnish effect lends the bright twin lines an exclusive touch, and the black effect paintwork on the tank and fork rods similarly reveal, in the best custom style, an unusual depth when the sunlight strikes the large metallic particles in the various layers of the paintwork.
The visual design of the imprinted single leather seat is borrowed from the classics of the 1950s. Reinterpreted and somewhat more comfortable, its quality embossing sits perfectly within the overall purist and high-class design. The cantilever spring strut is integrated beneath the seat. The graphics of the headlamp design are also reminiscent of the 1950s. The classic U shape of the original glass cover components are now interpreted as LED lamp elements.
Every one of these details contributes to the unique character of the concept bike and underlines its overall statement. The BMW Motorrad Concept R 18 merges traditional and historic design language with the current functionalities of BMW Motorrad in a coherent and cohesive whole.
Moreover, an exclusive and suitably themed horse leather jacket, which recreates the aesthetics of those days, has been designed especially for the presentation of the concept bike at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The leather jacket features a very smooth surface with only little grain and the protectors are integrated almost invisibly.
A counterpoint to contemporary times.
“For me, motorcycles like the BMW Motorrad Concept R 18 are a response to a growing need among the motorcycling community: instead of technology, the focus here is on simplification, authenticity and transparency. I observe an almost romantic yearning for real mechanical engineering. Our aim with this concept bike is to address this need and turn it into an analogue statement in a digital age. We have a rich history of iconic motorcycles, and they all bear the same design characteristics. We believe that this can still work well together today with the current technology,” says Edgar Heinrich in conclusion.

Over the past 80 years, BMW motorcycles have provided a unique alternative to those of other manufacturers. Some motorcycles may have been faster, certainly others were cheaper, but with their emphasis on quality and reliability, none have emulated the practicality of a BMW. To motorcycle racers, the suit is just as important as the motorcycle itself. The close-fitting one-piece suit made of cowhide nappa leather offers a complete safety packaging in an uncompromising racing version. The protectors at the shoulders, hips, elbows and knees are sewn firmly into place. At the knees there are exchangeable sliders with highly abrasion-resistant velcro fasteners. There are three alternatives available in terms of back protection. This highly sensitive area can firstly be protected by means of an NP Pro back protector using the protector pouch on the back of the ProRace suit. Alternatively, strap-on protectors, the back protector and the back protector vest are also available.
In addition to safety, a high level of wear comfort is crucial – especially when riding in racing conditions. In the ProRace suit this is ensured by means of numerous stretch inserts that guarantee immense freedom of movement. The perforated leather sections on the sleeves, chest area and thighs as well as a 3D spacer fabric in the back area ensure outstanding ventilation, enabling superb air circulation throughout the suit. For additional comfort, the ProRace suit is fitted with an aerodynamic rear hump.

Customisation also includes the option of adding individual team/sponsor logos and inscriptions or nicknames. Finally, a wide range of BMW Motorrad inscriptions and type designations such as RR, S 1000 XR, BMW M logo etc. round off the purebred racing look of the ProRace Made-to-Measure down to the last detail. As such, all racing needs are met and every specimen is entirely unique.
Various perforation options are available to do justice to individual comfort preferences. The additional protection (ribs and thighs, on the
outside) is optionally available: the protectors can be selected via the configurator in two different versions – standard foam or Vibram VPOD thermal foam. A chest protector can also be integrated in the ProRace Made-to-Measure suit. Meanwhile the aerodynamic hump on the back can optionally be fitted with a TrinkPak if required.
The customisable premium one-piece suit can be ordered using the configurator through authorised BMW partners or online through the BMW Motorrad licence partner. Apart from the variant Made-to-Measure the standard version is available in the sizes 46 to 60 and the colours black, white and red.
With a power output of 207 hp, an unladen weight of only 193.5 kilograms in the M version and an overall design concept dimensioned for maximum racing performance, the new S 1000 RR is ready and waiting to demonstrate its excellent riding dynamics, whether on the road or on the race track. To enable those with less experience to discover the full potential of the RR, without forfeiting either enjoyment or safety, the BMW superbike is fitted as standard with sophisticated assist systems like ABS Pro and DTC Dynamic Traction Control.
And with the iRace Kit, BMW Motorrad is taking things a step further with this software system for the S 1000 RR that allows less experienced riders and even those who have just received their motorcycle licences to turn in an astounding performance on the race track, with the assistance of a number of autonomous riding programs.
Only last year, BMW Motorrad revealed an enticing outlook to the future of possible motorcycle assist systems, with the self-driving R 1200 GS. Based on comprehensive research findings on the subject of independently acting assist systems, BMW Motorrad has now succeeded in developing a number of technical systems for use in serial-production motorcycles. Things kick off with the new S 1000 RR, for which the BMW Motorrad iRace Kit will be available from September 2019. Whether accelerating, braking, gear shifting or steering, with the BMW Motorrad iRace Kit, the RR is able to perform every manoeuvre fully automatically if the rider so desires, enabling him to enter completely new dimensions of motor transport physics.
The technical basis of the BMW Motorrad iRace Kit is a GPS-supported software unit that is able to access all current race tracks in the Superbike world championships, as well as other famed courses, such as the Nürburgring Nordschleife and the Isle of Man. An additional user interface in the TFT display enables the rider of the S 1000 RR to preselect a particular riding mode for a specific race track, and in so doing programme any lap time of his choice – all the way up to the current record!
A targeted controller for the ABS Pro and DTC assist systems that is precisely coordinated down to an order of milliseconds for the respective track position and surface conditions, in conjunction with the throttle valves and six-speed gearbox, enable the rider to approach incredibly fast lap times within a surprisingly short time. There are four riding modes available: Beginner, Sportsman, Advanced and Unlimited.
The Beginner mode introduces a whole new world of motorcycling for newcomers to the race track. Beginning with the optimum track and temperature conditions, this mode enables even those with little or no experience to approach a lap time for the track in question up to a maximum of eight seconds over the current record.
In the Sportsman mode, the braking points are set a little later, and those more familiar with race track riding benefit from a sharper throttle response and faster acceleration out of bends. In this riding mode, it is possible to realise a lap time up to a maximum of five seconds over the current best time.
The Advanced riding mode is for experienced race track riders. Even later braking points in conjunction with the DTC Dynamic Traction Control for drift angles of up to 7.5 degrees and a slip of up to 12% enable lap times of up to 1.5 seconds above the track record.
The serious hobby racer will enjoy unrestricted performance in the Unlimited riding mode. Provided he is of good physical fitness and has the right tyres fitted, in this mode it is even possible to achieve times up to the lap record for the track. To enable this, the drift angle is regulated for a maximum of 22.5 degrees with a top slip angle of 17.5%.
The automatic bend control also has GPS support. The technical implementation involves two electromagnetic actuators fitted to the front wheel guide, combined with a complex gyroscopic system. This enables high-precision control of changes in direction, again down to an order of milliseconds.
Dr. Phillip-Magnus Schalk, head of autonomous racing simulation at
BMW Motorrad: “The development of the BMW Motorrad iRace Kits was based on the experience made by our Superbike world champion riders. They provided us with valuable programming data, particularly as far as the braking points were concerned. We believe that this patented BMW Motorrad system will enable the majority of S 1000 RR riders to enter a whole new world of motorcycling. It is conceivable that we might even integrate the system in other models at some point in the future.”
Rosario Fröschle (39) was able to experience for himself on the Isle of Man the outstanding level of support afforded by the BMW Motorrad iRace system for even inexperienced track riders. In the run-up to last year’s Tourist Trophy, the qualified plumber from Osnabrück was able to test ride the S 1000 RR complete with BMW Motorrad iRace, over four laps, in all four riding modes. He said: “I had never been on this track before and I have to admit that over the first lap in Beginner mode, what I experienced was sheer fear. But I soon began to realise that the iRace could do everything better than me, and I started to gain trust. By the fourth lap in Unlimited model, the RR was literally flying me round the track. As the data logs subsequently confirmed, I managed it in a time that was only just less than eight seconds above the lap record of 16:50.202 minutes, set one week later by Peter Hickman. It was pure madness, but completely safe.”

In 2019, 26 different championship classes in 21 international and national race series will be classified for the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy – from the WorldSBK, through the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC), the International Road Racing Championship (IRRC), to national championships on all continents. New additions this year are the FIM European Superstock 1000 Cup (EU STK), the successor series of the discontinued FIM Superstock 1000 European Championship, and the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC). The final registration date for the 2019 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy is 30th June, the assessment period ends on 17th November. See below for the full list of all race series in the 2019 Race Trophy.
The scoring system of the Race Trophy has been revised in places for the new season. The scoring system was adjusted to reflect changes in individual championships. For example, the additional “Superpole Race” with its own points system in the WorldSBK and the scoring system in the Superstock class of the British Superbike Championship. The Race Trophy bonus points system has been simplified. The number of void results has also been adjusted in some championships.
At the end of the season, the 30 top participants in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy rankings will be awarded prize money and trophies. There will also be prizes for the riders and teams who win the title in their championship, and in the categories of “Best BMW Rider in Class” and “Newcomer of the Year”.
In addition, BMW Motorrad Motorsport has intensified its cooperation with alpha Racing. As “Official Partner of BMW Motorrad Motorsport”, alpha Racing is closely involved in the development and production of the racing components for the new BMW S 1000 RR. The company is also responsible for the distribution of the components to the BMW racing customers worldwide.

The exclusive individualisation features already familiar from the range of optional equipment can still be ordered ex works for new motorcycles. In addition to this, customers who already own a BMW motorcycle from the BMW R nineT family can now place separate orders for milled parts in the Classic, Storm and Club Sport versions.
The emblematic Option 719 features comprise exclusive milled parts packages of the very highest quality which can be individually combined. All parts are designed for perfect integration in the vehicle concept, enabling customers to create a unique, harmonious look for their motorcycle.
The highlights of the extensive parts programme include the Option 719 cylinder head covers made of anodised aluminium created from a single forging blank. These clearly shift the focus onto the boxer engine itself, producing an exclusive individualisation effect with rugged and robust charm. The visible milling look and the “Option 719” lettering underscore the machine’s high-quality character. The cylinder head covers with milled ignition coil cover can be perfectly supplemented with other Option 719 products.
In addition, the high-quality Option 719 belt cover enables riders with a pronounced design sense to send out a clear signal. The anodised aluminium cover gives the boxer engine an elegant, purist look from the front, too. The characteristic visible milled look, the lasered “Option 719” branding and the three-dimensionally milled BMW logo emphasise the exclusive appeal of this equipment item. The belt cover is made from a single forging blank and remains remarkably light after the elaborate milling process. The specific shaping also guarantees optimum engine cooling.
The product range is completed with Option 719 anodised adjustable hand levers, expansion tank covers, seat brackets, footrest systems and rear footrests.
At the BMW plant in Berlin, the designation Option 719 traditionally refers to one-off fittings and exclusive special requests. The BMW Motorrad Option 719 Collection is a homage to this tradition, providing elaborate, hand-crafted paint finishes, unique design and highly detailed accessories in boutique manufacture style on an ex works basis.
The “Classic” version of these products features a pure aluminium surface. In the “Club Sport” version, the interplay of black and gold anodising creates a dark character with a touch of refinement. Both of these versions are now available as part of the range of Original BMW Motorrad Accessories.
The “Storm” version combines harmoniously matched grey tones to create a powerful, rugged character. Parts in this style will be available as Original BMW Motorrad Accessories from June 2019 onwards.
The Japanese motorcycle customizer CUSTOM WORKS ZON presents a spectacular custom bike based around the prototype of a new BMW Motorrad boxer engine.
Japanese motorcycle customizing specialist CUSTOM WORKS ZON presented a fascinating custom model commissioned by BMW Motorrad. The centerpiece of the machine is the prototype of a completely new boxer engine.
CUSTOM WORKS ZON was founded by Yuichi Yoshizawa and Yoshikazu Ueda in the prefecture of Shiga in 2003 and is well-known for its exceptional creations. The custom builders are regularly invited to well-known shows in the customizer scene such as “Mama Tried Show” in Milwaukee, “The Hand Built Motorcycle Show” in Austin and the “Brooklyn Invitational”. The small workshop has lots of prizes and awards on its shelves – clear evidence of the builders’ skill, craftsmanship and distinctive style.
Yuichi Yoshizawa was thrilled to collaborate with BMW Motorrad: “It was a great honor and a challenge to be able to build a motorcycle around the prototype of such a spectacular new boxer engine for one of the most tradition-steeped manufacturers.”
There was a lot of speculation at the show about the prototype engine. The external geometry and visible elements such as the push rods running above the cylinders in chrome-plated protection ducts recall BMW Motorrad boxer engines that were built until the late 1960s – but with an evidently larger capacity and a modern air/oil cooling. Further details about the engine and its possible future use will be communicated at a later point in time.
ZON’s distinctive style can be clearly recognized: classic styling, modern production techniques and a wealth of craftsmanship in the detail – all produced to very highest Japanese quality standards. The very low silhouette of the bike is reminiscent of Ernst Henne’s record-breaking machines of the late 1920s and 1930s. The large 21 front and 26 rear inch wheels are milled of aluminum and fitted with relatively narrow tires, while the girder fork was also made of solid aluminum. The rear swinging arm is made of steel pipe and attached to the tubular space frame by means of concealed suspension. The large-volume engine is suspended in this frame structure reinforced with grid tubes. Meanwhile the fitted fuel tank, seat unit and front trim are crafted by hand from sheet metal.
This spectacular custom bike by CUSTOM WORKS ZON in collaboration with BMW Motorrad created a huge buzz in the scene, earning the prestigious “Best of Show Motorcycle” award which is regarded the highest honor at this year’s Hot Rod Custom Show.
The Mooneyes Show – as it is called in the customizer scene – was being held for the 27th time in Yokohama, Japan. It attracts at least 15,000 spectators every year despite the fact it lasts only one day. Car and motorcycle custom builders from all over the world present their creations, with a total of nearly 300 cars and 650 motorcycles and there are also numerous dealer stands.
Six new BMW Motorrad models will make their UK debut at Motorcycle Live (17-25 November) following the global unveiling of the brand’s 2019 model additions at last week’s EICMA Show in Milan.
From the faster, lighter and easier-to-handle new S 1000 RR superbike, to the continent-crunching new R 1250 GS Adventure, the BMW Motorrad stand at Motorcycle Live will be bursting with new metal, interactive fun and celeb interviews. The BMW stand features the ‘Make Life a Ride’ live experience and demonstration zone, which brings the thrill of on- and off-road riding to the NEC. The Arena stars Simon Pavey’s team of Off Road Skills instructors demonstrating the capability of the BMW GS range, plus Ian Biederman’s BMW Rider Training displays.
The hotly-anticipated update of the S 1000 RR is sure to draw the crowds with its completely new engine that uses BMW’s innovative ShiftCam technology. Producing 207 bhp and paired with a weight saving of 11 kg, from 208 kg down to 197 kg, the re-design of the S 1000 RR is faster and more agile than ever before.
The GS stable is also on display and has been bolstered with the latest developments to the ultimate all-rounder, the R 1250 GS Adventure, and the addition of the middle-weight F 850 GS Adventure, for riders looking for around-the-world capability.
Housing the most-advanced Boxer engine ever produced, BMW’s variable valve ShiftCam technology brings increased horsepower and torque to the R 1250 range. Featuring in the R, RS & GS Adventure, as well as the GS and RT released earlier in 2018, the optimised performance and smoothness provides versatility across the R 1250 model range.
Looking beyond the metal, the ‘World of BMW’ will wow visitors with its range of two-wheel experiences for riders of every level – from those learning to ride and develop road skills, to motorcyclists tackling off-road riding and touring the world. At New Heritage, which considers itself a festival for timelessness, all facets of Pure&Crafted will be showcased once more to celebrate the end of the season, comprising live music by headliners RAZZ, motorcycle culture and plenty of new heritage lifestyle.

After three successful years and sold out events, the festival took on a different form this year. To find new inspiration, discover trends and develop Pure&Crafted further, the festival was ON THE ROAD this summer to seek out the places where the Pure&Crafted lifestyle is lived out every day.
On 24 May, we celebrated the kick-off event to this adventurous road trip with a Pure&Crafted BBQ at Festsaal Kreuzberg in Berlin, sending off the first Pure&Crafted ON THE ROAD rider in style with gigs by The Picturebooks, Rews and more.
Since then, 13 riders or teams have travelled 40,000 km through 20 countries in 4 months, riding the Pure&Crafted Signature Bike, a BMW R nineT Pure, all across Europe. Riding from Berlin to Morocco and back, Bernhard Elflein of Herzbube Motorcycles was on the road the longest together with Sozia and his companion Severine – and some luggage, of course!
All Pure&Crafted ON THE ROAD riders were asked to track down the most exciting routes, the smallest manufactures, the most exceptional builders, the best food and the coolest gigs – and to experience their own personal adventure while doing so. Participating in the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride in Hamburg and visiting INTERMOT in Cologne, Ben Arslan brought the extensive tour on the R nineT to an end, riding it safely to the „Pure&Crafted Campus 66 Special“ in Krefeld on 5 October. There, on the top-notch grounds of the Campus Loft 66 in Krefeld Fichtenhain, and in cooperation with the Ace Cafe London, the crowd was treated to the essence of Pure&Crafted with live music by Velvetones and vendors like Ondura Durable Goods and Blaumann Jeanshosen as well as a selection of rare concept and custom bikes.
It’s not difficult to imagine that the Pure&Crafted ON THE ROAD riders experienced a lot, met many interesting people and found new friends.
Since such an epic road trip can’t just end like that, we decided to throw a final party, of course.
Under the banner of “Pure&Crafted meets New Heritage”, the party will be held as part of the New Heritage Festival at Areal Boehler in Dusseldorf on 3 and 4 November 2018.
The New Heritage Festival has been established in 2017. Biannually, the festival draws from 5,000 to 7,000 visitors of all ages to Munich and Dusseldorf where around 100 smaller and bigger vendors present their high-quality products. A diverse fringe programme, including workshops, concerts, drinks and street food, round off the events. By the way, many of the vendors already offered their products at Pure&Crafted Festival’s “General Store” in the past.
As a partner of New Heritage, Pure&Crafted will curate the music line-up and all things related to motorcycle culture in Dusseldorf:
On Saturday evening, Pure&Crafted ON THE ROAD will cross the finish line with live performances by RAZZ, Embrace the Emperor and DJ Joern Biedka behind the decks.
BMW Motorrad will be on location as well, presenting a variety of custom bike highlights.
In addition, the Pure&Crafted ON THE ROAD riders will talk about their experiences, and the ON THE ROAD recap film will premiere in Dusseldorf, too.
Even the best road trip must come to an end at some point! One thing’s for sure, though: Pure&Crafted ON THE ROAD brought us lots of inspiration, new trends, many interesting contacts and countless ideas.

The Milan EICMA motorshow is one of the most important international motorcycle shows. Every two years BMW Motorrad and over 1,000 companies in the two-wheel business from all over the world come together at the INTERMOT motorcycle show in Cologne to present their products ranging from motorcycles, scooters and e-bikes to 220,000 visitors. BMW Motorrad receives INTERMOT visitors at a stand covering 800 m² and provides an overview of its 2018 model range. The BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 RT, which were presented just a few days before, will celebrate their motorshow premiere in Cologne.
Apart from the current model range and the new products, visitors can also explore the extensive range of accessories as well as the innovative BMW Motorrad rider equipment at the BMW Motorrad stand. BMW Motorrad also has its own stand again at INTERMOT Customized in hall 10. 14 exciting BMW custom bikes are displayed on an area covering 180 m².
Wide-ranging support program.
In addition an exciting and varied program with the motto “Make Life a Ride” awaits visitors. On Friday, 5 October there will also be the Pure&Crafted Campus 66 Special on the Campus Fichtenhain area in Krefeld which revives the spirit of the Pure&Crafted festivals on a smaller scale. As a special event on Saturday morning (6 October), there will be a joint ride-in from the campus to INTERMOT.
There will also be plenty of adrenaline around when the “Sultans of Sprint” launch their 1/8 mile sprint race, which BMW Motorrad will also take part in. And of course the current BMW Motorrad models will also be awaiting test riders on the test ride course.

BMW Motorrad has opened two new Rider Training centres in Darlington, County Durham and Edinburgh, Scotland, to bring the brand’s top-quality road skills training to experienced riders, plus those new to motorcycles.
The new schools join the brand’s established sites: BMW Rider Training South – in Royston, Hertfordshire and BMW Rider Training West Midlands – in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. The new sites will offer the same comprehensive suite of training for those learning to ride, through to the RoSPA Advanced Rider standard.

BMW Rider Training centres offer a suite of Direct Access courses that fast-track new riders to pass their full motorcycle test (over four-to-seven-day courses). The riding schools also train seasoned riders with three levels of road skills courses refining and enhancing roadcraft and ultimately offering participants the chance to take their Advanced Rider Test with an independent RoSPA examiner.
The new BMW Rider Training North East site in Darlington is headed-up by lead-instructor Iain Corser and is situated next to the Durham Tees Valley Airport, just off the A66 / A67 junction. Meanwhile, overseen by lead-instructor Marcin Kopacz, the BMW Rider Training Scotland site in Bonnyrigg is just five minutes from the local Eskbank train station and BMW centre in Dalkeith. Both schools offer riders a broad selection of BMW bikes upon which to learn and enhance their skills – from the capable BMW G 310 R roadster to the renowned R 1200 GS adventure bike.

Each BMW Rider Training centre offers BMW’s industry-leading ‘Rookie to Rider’ scheme, which equips those new to motorcycling with a new BMW machine and a full-set of safety gear, alongside a seven-day Direct Access rider training course. For just £650 contribution and as little as £109 a month, new riders can access the expert tuition at any BMW Rider Training site, before riding away in BMW safety clothing on a brand-new BMW motorbike.
BMW M celebrates 20 years as Official Car of MotoGP 1A special MotoGP™ season is underway for BMW M; the 20th season as “Official Car of MotoGP”. BMW and BMW M GmbH have been involved as partners of MotoGP™ organiser Dorna Sports since 1999, with activities focused on providing the safety car fleet.
In the 2018 anniversary season, the fleet will be headed by the new BMW M5 MotoGP™ Safety Car. BMW M GmbH will provide a total of six BMW M high-performance cars this year to ensure the safety of the race events, with the BMW M3 Safety Car also in action, as well as a BMW M4 Coupé Safety Car with water injection and a BMW M2 Safety Car, provided for the Safety Officer and the Race Director respectively. In addition, the BMW X5 M Medical Car will take to the track this season and a BMW M6 Gran Coupé Safety Car also stands by ready for action. Two BMW S 1000 RRs, which BMW Motorrad provides as safety bikes, complete the 2018 fleet.
In addition, among the many other activities that make up BMW M GmbH’s commitment to MotoGP™, the BMW M Award will be presented for the 16th time in 2018. This award is presented at the end of each MotoGP™ season to the rider with the best overall result in qualifying.
