Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner Becomes The Fastest Ever Triumph On The Bonneville Salt Flats

TT Legend Guy Martin pilots the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner to become the fastest ever Triumph achieving 274.2 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats

The Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner has become the world’s fastest ever Triumph by achieving a speed of 274.2 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats on 8 August, 2016. Piloted by TT legend Guy Martin, the streamliner smashed the previous official Triumph record that stood at 245.667 mph as well as the unofficial Triumph Record of 264mph, both set by Bob Leppan, in the Gyronaut X-1.

Near perfect conditions greeted the team on the final day of the team’s land speed practice week. With confidence high after a successful number of days running on the salt at Bonneville the team’s goal for the day with the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner was the Triumph record.

Just after 8:30am Guy Martin and the team set off on the first run of the day, after a steady start, Martin accelerated the sleek looking streamliner to a staggering 274.2 mph, rewriting Triumph history in the process. Just after the two mile marker Martin came to a controlled stop near to the team’s base camp to be greeted by the news that he had broken the 46 year old Triumph record.

Today’s record run is further proof of Martin’s growing confidence on the salt and commitment to breaking the World two wheeled Land Speed record. Throughout the week Martin has continued to impress everyone within the team with the speed in which he has been able to master the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner on the salt. Each time Martin has sat in the streamliner on the salt he has been able to achieve the goals set by Crew Chief and the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner designer Matt Markstaller and his team with the required level of control.

When asked about becoming the fastest ever Triumph record holder Martin commented: “It’s good and we are moving in the right direction, but it is just one step on the way to what me and team are here to do.”

The Triumph Infor Rocket features a carbon Kevlar monocoque construction with two turbocharged Triumph Rocket III engines producing a combined 1,000 bhp at 9,000 rpm. The motorcycle is 25.5 feet long, 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall. Powered by methanol fuel, the bike is competing in the Division C (streamlined motorcycle) category.

Triumph has a history of breaking the land speed record, holding the title of ‘World’s Fastest Motorcycle’ between 1955 to 1970*. The record-breaking Triumph Streamliners included: Devil’s Arrow, Texas Cee-gar, Dudek Streamliner and Gyronaut X1, the former achieving a top speed of 245.667 mph (395.28 km/h). Today’s record, held by Rocky Robinson since 2010 riding the Top Oil-Ack Attack streamliner, sits at 376.363 mph (605.697 km/h).

The iconic Bonneville name was conceived following Johnny Allen’s land-speed record runs at the Salt Flats in September 1956, when he reached the record breaking speed of 193.72 mph. The first T120 Bonneville model was unveiled at the Earls Court Bike Show and went on sale in 1959.

Triumph Motorcycles Confirms New World Land Speed Record Attempt

Triumph Motorcycles, the iconic British motorcycle brand, has confirmed that it will return to the legendary salt flats of Bonneville, USA, in August 2016 to break the motorcycle world land speed record. Triumph’s aim is to exceed the current record that stands at 376.363 mph, using its purpose built 1,000 bhp Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner.

Riding the purpose-built Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner over the measured mile will be Isle of Man TT racer and multiple speed record holder Guy Martin. Title partner for Triumph’s 2016 record attempt will be global cloud applications provider Infor with further support from iconic clothing brand Belstaff.

Guy Martin commented: “I can’t wait to take the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner onto the salt at Bonneville for the first time this summer. The Triumph engineers have built an amazing machine, giving us the very best chance to beat the two-wheeled land speed record.”

Ride into the record books with Staffordshire Triumph

A leading Triumph motorcycle dealership is giving riders across the West Midlands the chance to become World Record holders. Staffordshire Triumph is seeking to smash the record for ‘Largest Parade of Triumph Motorcycles’ on Sunday 04 September 2016, and is calling for participants to sign-up.

Raising funds for Jessica Simpkin HELP, a charity that campaigns for children’s brain tumour research, Staffordshire Triumph will attempt to beat its own record, which was set last year. Gathering together 362 motorcycles, the event took the title as the biggest ever parade of Triumph bikes.

John Adkins, co-organiser of the 2016 attempt, commented: “This is a fantastic event to raise money for a really worthy cause and we’re delighted to have the support of Staffordshire Triumph. After an unsuccessful Australian attempt in January of this year, we’re hoping to gather even more Triumph riders together and make history.”

Bob Sheldon, owner of Staffordshire Triumph, added: “Following last year’s fantastic achievement, we’re looking forward to hosting this year’s event. As the incumbent record holders, we’d love to smash our own record, as well as raise money and awareness for a very important cause. Given the generosity and spirit Triumph riders are known for, we’re confident that this can be done!”

The World Record attempt will begin at 11:00am, with all riders wishing to take part having to be pre-registered and then booked in on the day by 10:45am. The two mile course, which will take approximately 20 minutes to complete, will take riders on a parade through the streets of Mansfield.

Let’s party! East Midlands motorcycle dealership celebrates new store opening

Pidcock Triumph, which has been trading in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, for more than 45 years, is expecting a bumper year of sales after moving to a new flagship store on Nottingham’s Tamworth Road.

With more than 7,000 square feet of retail space, the new dealership – which will be officially opened as part of Triumph’s national TFEST weekend (23-24 April) – employs seven people and is optimistic about its future growth plans.

Going forward, Pidcock Triumph will take on a more modern and high-end look, satisfying the increasing demand from riders for a truly sophisticated retail experience. This fresh environment will provide customers with an innovative way of engaging with the growing range of bikes, enabling riders to really appreciate the significant engineering touches that go into Triumph motorcycles.

Dave Munt, general manager at Pidcock Triumph, commented: “The move to a new, larger store is a natural progression to meet the growing demand for Triumph motorcycles. The range of bikes has increased hugely since we first started trading with Triumph, and 2016 promises to be a busy year with Triumph launching a number of new bikes.”

The recently developed store features an onsite café, offering customers a place to meet up and relax before their next ride out. Destined to become a hub for the Nottinghamshire and North Leicester regions, Pidcock Triumph also stocks the very latest ranges of exclusively-branded Triumph rider and casual wear, as well as motorcycle accessories.

Paul Lilly, general manager of Triumph UK, said: “Pidcock Triumph perfectly represents Triumph’s vision of new-look stores, which are being rolled out across the UK as we speak. These are a hugely exciting part of our brand development strategy, positioning Triumph as a truly desirable premium brand. The Triumph customer experience begins on entry to the store, with a welcome feeling of being part of an authentic lifestyle, ensuring pride in owning a part of the Triumph brand – whether that be a motorcycle, clothing or merchandise.”

Triumph returns to the North East

The iconic Triumph name is set to return to the North East, with the launch of a new flagship retail site in Newcastle upon Tyne. The new Triumph showroom, which officially opens this spring, will be located in the city centre’s Plummer Street, a move from its former site on Dinsdale Place.

With a 35-year history as a motorcycle dealer in the city, Newcastle Motorcycles is excited to unveil its new Triumph showroom to local customers, ideal timing as riders begin to gear up for the spring and summer. The official dealer opening will be in May, although the business is already trading, allowing Newcastle consumers to experience Triumph’s new range of 2016 motorcycles – including the Street Twin, Bonneville T120, Speed Triple, Tiger Explorer, Tiger Sport and Thruxton.

Craig Smith, dealer principal at Newcastle Motorcycles, commented: “We are thrilled to represent such an iconic brand in the North East. With the motorcycle industry thriving at the moment, we hope the new showroom will be able to attract additional customers to Triumph, as well as welcoming existing Triumph riders and fans.”

The showroom is planned to be an interim solution while long term premises are secured, however it will still be a key part of Triumph Motorcycle’s contemporary approach to retailing. Sporting the latest Triumph identity, the aim is to provide customers with an even better viewing and customer experience. In addition, Triumph’s products, including accessories and clothing, will be displayed in more of a high-street fashion store set-up to enhance the appeal of the products.

With the recent global launches of Triumph’s 2016 motorcycle range, the next 12 months will be hugely important for Triumph dealers throughout the UK, and the launch of Triumph Newcastle will play a crucial role in that development

The new 2016 Triumph Tiger Sport has been designed to redefine the meaning of versatility and deliver the best of all worlds. From real sporting prowess with more performance and thrilling riding characteristics, to mile-munching touring with enhanced comfort and capability for hassle free long distance riding pleasure.

Featuring 104 developments, including a next generation 1050cc triple engine, a suite of rider-focused technology, enhanced comfort and capability and a more dynamic and sporty character, the new Tiger Sport is not an everyday motorcycle.

Superior drive and control

The latest evolution of the Tiger Sport centres around an iconic 1050cc triple engine, featuring 104 developments to optimise power delivery; including new cylinder heads, inlet ports and piston design.  Instant response, thanks to a new ride-by-wire throttle system, allows the rider to make maximum use of the engine’s signature drive in every situation, from highway cruising to cross-town commuting. The new, 38% freer-flowing silencer not only sounds richer but also contributes to 8% better fuel economy.

Technology for the ride

The introduction of a new ECU and ride-by-wire throttle system and switchable traction control opens up the new Tiger Sport to a host of rider-focused technology. This means the new model gives an instant response to rider input, with seamless power and a wall of torque immediately on hand.  Added to this are a choice of rider modes, enabling the rider to select the throttle response and traction control to suit the conditions. Available modes are Rain, Road and Sport, tailoring each system to optimise the bike’s performance and control.  The Sport mode allows the rider to explore the maximum character and punch of the triple engine while Rain softens and reduces overall power delivery. A new USB and 12v power socket allows riders to charge up personal equipment and help with the fitting of powered accessories. Cruise control completes the suite of original equipment rider aids while an all-new instrument panel, including two trip meters and a live fuel gauge, gives clear access to all the information a rider requires, with the benefit of simple navigation through the displays.

Reduce the strain of riding

A new tinted adjustable screen for superior wind protection, adventure handguards as standard and innovative ‘screen aero diffusers’, that deflect the air away from the rider and passenger without compromising the sporty stance, deliver an unprecedented level of aero protection for significantly improved touring capability and comfort. Added to this is a new torque-assist clutch that eases the strain of both city commutes and long-distance adventure by reducing lever effort by up to 48%. The new clutch system is coupled to a slick six-speed gearbox to allow the rider to make maximum use of the available power while providing a comfortable ratio for top gear long distance cruising.

Style that performs

Restyled and with all new livery available in subtle matt black with neon yellow detailing or striking aluminium silver with red details, the Tiger Sport makes a stylish statement for every-day, every-journey motorcycling.  The Tiger Sport’s single-sided swingarm gives a clean finish while completing the new look with revised engine covers, new mirrors and a billet machined rear wheel spindle finisher.

Rider comfort reaches a new level of sophistication too – with restyled footpegs designed to give more grip and a new seat with embossed logo and stitching detail.

With a huge fan base worldwide, thanks to its thrilling triple-engine, great handling, excellent rider and pillion ergonomics and a large load-carrying ability, the new Tiger Sport has been developed to be better in every way for the motorcyclist who wants a single bike that does it all.

All-new 2016 Speed Triple arrives in dealerships across the UK

Triumph’s all-new performance roadster, the 2016 Speed Triple, arrived in dealerships nationwide earlier this week (29th February). More focused, more powerful and more capable, the aggressive model pairs state-of-the-art technology with eye-catching design to deliver maximum fun and maximum thrills.

Harnessing an all-new 1050cc triple engine, the 2016 Speed Triple retains its legendary style and minimalist beauty, while improving performance and capability to redefine the performance roadster segment.

Available in both ‘S’ and ‘R’ configurations, both new models feature a suite of rider-focused technology designed to maximise control and allow the rider to optimise performance depending on conditions, climate and riding style. A new ride-by-wire throttle system – complete with five rider modes – provides enhanced control, feel and responsiveness, while delivering improved fuel efficiency.

No expense has been spared in giving the Speed Triple S and Speed Triple R class-leading chassis and suspension componentry. Both models feature Brembo M4.32 radial monobloc brakes and fully-adjustable suspension as standard, while the Speed Triple R also comes with Öhlins NIX30 upside down front forks, as well as an Öhlins TTX36 race shock absorbers. The Speed Triple R also features a billet machined handlebar clamp and risers, together with machined swingarm spindle finishers and rear wheel finisher.

A return to the ‘hooligan bike’ looks of the original Speed Triple, the two new models are also more focused and assertive in their styling. Striking lines through the fuel tank and tail unit create a more aggressive look, while a 20mm narrower seat head improves stand-over and lowers profile.

Available from authorised Triumph dealers across the UK from 29th February 2016, the all-new Speed Triple S and Speed Triple R are available at an OTR price of £10,200 and £11,500 respectively, as well as via TriStar – Triumph’s PCP programme – for highly affordable monthly payments from £155.

Triumph Motorcycles’ 2016 range makes its UK public debut

The British public will get the chance to see Triumph’s latest new models for the first time this winter, when they make their UK debut at Motorcycle Live (NEC Birmingham, 28th November – 6th December).

Alongside the new Bonneville range, which comprises the Street Twin, Bonneville T120, Bonneville T120 Black, Thruxton and Thruxton R, visitors to the stand will witness the UK unveiling of Triumph’s latest addition to its adventure range, the new Tiger Explorer, as well as two all-new sports Speed Triples.

Rick Cawley, general manager of Triumph UK, said: “It’s clear that 2016 is going to be a huge year for us, with fifteen new models coming to UK dealerships. Motorcycle Live gives us a fantastic opportunity to showcase our new motorcycles and for fans to get up close and personal with the brand new line up.

“Our new bikes have been four years in the making, so it’s with great excitement that we’re finally able to reveal them to the public. Already, we’ve had strong interest in the new Bonneville range, with plenty of priority reservations taken over the past few weeks. With our new Explorer and Speed Triple now joining these classics, we’re looking forward to helping riders find their dream bike.

“With this in mind, we’re offering visitors to Motorcycle Live the chance to secure early production for our new bikes, with our factory priority order form. Riders can pick one of these up from a member of the Triumph team and ensure they’re one of the first to pick up a new bike when they go on sale.

Triumph Motorcycles are displaying their complete range of bikes, accessories and clothing at Motorcycle Live in hall 3a, stand 3E20.

All New Triumph Speed Triple models unveiled

The new Triumph Speed Triple S and Speed Triple R take the legacy of the first factory street fighter to a completely new level in terms of performance, agility, power, handling and capability.

Centred around a new 1050cc triple engine, the new Speed Triple S and R redefine the naked performance roadster. The new engine features 104 new developments that combine to deliver more power and, more importantly, more torque across the whole rev range, whilst still meeting Euro 4 regulations and delivering an increase of up to 10% fuel efficiency. These developments include a new combustion chamber, new cylinder head, a new machined crank, new piston design and new ‘ride-by-wire’ throttle bodies. Additional developments also include a slip assist clutch, smaller, more efficient radiator and a new free-flowing exhaust that has a 70% increase in flow rate.

The new Speed Triple S and Speed Triple R also feature a suite of rider-focused technology. Among the features that add to the Speed Triple’s performance and capability are a new ECU coupled to a new adjustable Ride-by-Wire throttle with selectable throttle maps that increase the feel, responsiveness and control. There are now 5 distinct riding modes to choose from: Road, Rain, Sport, Track and a new Rider Configurable mode, that all allows the rider to set-up the motorcycle to the optimum performance relative to road conditions or environment.

Key to the new Speed Triple S and R is the aggressive, athletic styling and a narrow, focused design. A low, lithe stance is accentuated by sleek new bodywork and a completely new, Daytona 675R-inspired, tailpiece. All of which has been achieved without losing any of the naked minimalist beauty that is synonymous with the Speed Triple.

The new Triumph Speed Triple S and Speed Triple R redefine the Speed Triple legend – delivering the perfect balance of power, handling, capability and character in two new performance roadsters designed for maximum fun and maximum thrills with maximum attitude.
