Dunlop to continue as sole Moto2™ and Moto3™ tyre supplier until 2023

Dunlop is pleased to announce a three-year contract extension with Dorna Sports that will see the FIM Moto2™ and Moto3™ World Championships continue racing on Dunlop tyres until at least the end of the 2023 season. Dunlop has been a long-standing partner of the MotoGP™ paddock since the World Championship’s inception in 1949.

As the most successful tyre company in the history of the 250cc and 125cc categories, having won 17 titles in 250cc, Dunlop became the exclusive tyre supplier of Moto2™ and Moto3™ when the new classes were founded to replace the 250cc and 125cc classes. Since then, Dunlop has supplied every bike in every season of the intermediate and lightweight classes.

Dunlop will continue to supply both Moto2™ and Moto3™ for at least another three years. Dunlop’s top technology goes into creating the ultimate race tyres designed specifically for the unique Moto2™ and Moto3™ bikes, which have seen a notable lap time improvement through tyre developments and adaptation to new technical innovations. These tyres are raced in all corners of the world through an intense schedule that visits some of the most exciting race tracks on the planet.

The race tyres used by Moto2™ and Moto3™ riders are heavily linked to Dunlop tyres that bikers around the world can fit to their own machines. Dunlop products are all developed and manufactured by the same team as the Moto2™ and Moto3™ race tyres. This true ‘race to road’ link gives riders a wide choice of tyres to suit their style and usage – all with technology derived from the top levels of motorsport. True examples of this are the race-derived KR and D213 GP PRO designs, as well as track day tyres such as GP Racer D212 and more road-orientated hypersport designs like SportSmart Mk3 and TT.

Dunlop also supports the star riders of tomorrow, supplying tyres to championships such as the Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup, Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup, Honda British Talent Cup and Northern Talent Cup, all as part of the Road to MotoGP initiative.

Ben Hoge, General Manager Motorcycle Europe, Goodyear: “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Dorna Sports to remain the exclusive tyre supplier to the Moto2™ and Moto3™ World Championships for at least another three years. Both series are integral to Dunlop Motorsport’s activities and allow us to develop technology for our expanding range of road and track tyres. Dorna Sports has an excellent platform for finding and supporting the star riders of tomorrow and we’re excited to remain a part of it.”

Pau Serracanta, Managing Director, Dorna Sports: “We are delighted to announce that Dunlop will remain the tyre supplier for the Moto2 and Moto3 classes, extending our partnership until 2023. Dunlop have been a cornerstone of the incredible success of Moto2 and Moto3 since each began, and the results speak for themselves as we continue to see spectacular racing every weekend. I look forward to more history being made together over at least the next three years.”

October Powered Two Wheeler registrations – Up for work and play

Since the end of the Spring lockdown, registrations of new Powered Two Wheelers (PTWs) have risen dramatically, to a point where at the end of October, despite a long period of severely restricted sales activity, they stood at just 5.9% behind the same point in 2019.

Overall PTW registrations climbed by 24.3% over last October to 8,856 units, with motorcycles up by 21.2% to 5,990 units, while 2,866 new scooters left showrooms, up 31.3% on last year.

October maintained the trend of strong growth in the smaller motorcycle and scooter sector, where the benefits of a low-cost, isolated, efficient, easy-to-park, congestion-busting, low or zero emission form of transport found even more converts.  This category was 42.3% up on October 2019 and 9.9% ahead of the first ten months of last year.

Similarly, electrically-powered PTW registrations continue their rapid expansion, up 71.8% on the month and 50.2% against the year to date 2019.  Riders love the fact that most electric PTWs can be charged from a conventional three-pin plug and many feature removable batteries, meaning the vehicle doesn’t have to be near the charger and expensive infrastructure is not required.

But it isn’t all work and no play in the PTW world, as larger capacity motorcycles (651cc to 1,000cc) stormed ahead by 8.3% in October, as more riders exploited the leisure benefits of travelling on powered two wheels, fully immersing themselves in the sights, sounds and smells of their journey, in a way no closed car can imitate.

If the idea of the many benefits of riding a PTW appeals to you, please visit www.unlockyourfreedom.co.uk, to find out more about getting onto powered two wheels, including how to access the straightforward Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course, which is all that is required to ride a PTW of up to 11Kw or 125cc.

UK drivers and motorcyclists unconvinced by proposed new Highway Code

Chaotic collection of traffic signs from the United Kingdom

UK drivers and motorcyclists unconvinced by proposed new Highway Code fearing more conflict with cyclists and pedestrians.

A recent survey has discovered that the majority of road users aren’t in favour of many of the Department for Transport’s proposed changes to the Highway Code which have been designed to improve road safety for cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders, believing that the changes will instead increase conflict and potentially reduce the safety of the vulnerable road users they are intended to protect.

In the survey, conducted by the UK’s largest road safety charity IAM RoadSmart, 71 per cent of drivers and motorcyclists believe the new proposal to give pedestrians priority when turning into and out of junctions, for example, will increase conflict rather than reducing it, with more than half (57 per cent) thinking this will be a significant issue.

Of the 3,600 web poll respondents, 74 per cent believe that children should be allowed to cycle on the pavement, but only 23 per cent feel that cyclists in general should have the same rights.

Almost three quarters (73 per cent) think that the new Highway Code should make it compulsory for cyclists to wear a helmet, in contrast to the proposed Code itself which, while restating the evidence that wearing a cycle helmet reduces the risk of sustaining a head injury in certain circumstances, stops short of making them compulsory.

Meanwhile, 71 per cent of people agree with the general concept that drivers and riders should give motorcyclists, cyclists, horse riders, horse drawn vehicles and pedestrians walking in the road at least as much room as they would when overtaking a car.

On the new Code’s most controversial suggestions – to establish a hierarchy of road users, where those in charge of the vehicles that can cause the greatest harm should bear the greatest responsibility to take care – the majority (56 per cent) agree that this is the right way forward, but 26 per cent are against and almost one in five (19 per cent) are still to be convinced either way.

The new Code doesn’t suggest any obligation on cyclists to use cycle lanes or tracks when they are present, and a resounding 80 per cent of IAM RoadSmart’s poll respondents believe this is a mistake.

However, some of the proposed changes were met with widespread support, with 63 per cent of those surveyed agreeing with the new advice that when riding a bike on busy roads, when vehicles are moving faster than them, cyclists should move over and allow traffic to overtake them. There is also strong support for every proposal that contains clear guidelines on passing distances, with 78 per cent in favour of the one and a half-metre gap between cyclist and vehicle travelling below 30mph, with a two-metre gap when above 30mph.

And 90 per cent agree with the new Code’s advice that drivers and motorcyclists should give horse riders at least two metres’ space and pass at speeds under 15 mph.

Finally, just over half (57 per cent) agree with the new proposal to include the ‘Dutch Reach’ in the Highway Code. This is a technique which advises motorists leaving their vehicles to do so by using their left hand to operate the door handle, allowing the driver to naturally twist their body, making it easier to look over their shoulder and check for cyclists or other road users approaching.

Neil Greig, Policy and Research Director at IAM RoadSmart, said: “Regardless of what changes are introduced, it is clear there will be a need for a huge education campaign to ensure any amendments to the Highway Code are understood and fully adopted by the millions of existing UK drivers, motorcyclists and road users. At IAM RoadSmart we believe an online resource to help with this re-education in an engaging way would be helpful.

“The simple truth is that most of us don’t read the Highway Code unless we drive or ride professionally, or are about to take a test. The Department for Transport needs to be realistic about the impact simply changing a seldom read document will have on the behavior and safety of road users.”

MCIA urges Government to recognise PTW retailers in England as essential businesses

MCIA, the trade body for the Powered Two Wheeler (PTW) industry, today urges Government to add PTW retailers in England to their list of essential businesses, alongside bicycle shops.

Bicycle shops are rightly deemed essential to support those for whom cycling is a viable commuting option. However, the recent boom in registrations of commuter PTWs, where post-Spring lockdown demand has seen year-to-date sales outstrip 2019, shows that for many, their commute is beyond pedal-power.

For those with longer commutes, or who work anti-social hours, a small capacity or electric PTW provides cost-effective, congestion-busting, easy-to-park, isolated travel that is easy to access and enjoyable to use. It is therefore paramount that those selling and maintaining these vehicles are granted essential business status to keep a large number of Britons mobile during this difficult period.

Fowlers’ VE Day Bike Wins Public Vote In Triumph Bonneville Build-Off

Fowlers Triumph has scooped the Public Choice Award in this year’s Bonneville Build-Off Challenge with their striking entry, the VE Day Commemorative Bike.

In addition to the public vote, Triumph brought together four passionate and inspiring ambassadors to present their own distinctive awards, celebrating design, paint & custom work, inspiration and retail appeal.

All winners were announced by the panel of judges in a Facebook Premiere on 28 October.

Thousands of votes were cast via the new Bonneville Build-Off website over four weeks, as nine Triumph dealerships across the UK competed to create the best custom bike. Using a combination of stylish genuine Triumph accessories and exceptional in-house engineering skills, each team designed, crafted and built their own beautiful bespoke Bonneville.

Devron Boulton, General Manager, Triumph Motorcycles UK, commented: “The VE Commemorative bike is a stunning piece of design with a strong British Army theme running throughout the custom build. The bike has combined both modern and heritage elements that seamlessly combine and, what has really impressed me with this bike, is how good it looks from every angle. Congratulations Fowlers Triumph.”

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day in 2020, Fowlers’ winning bike featured girder forks, canvas bags and big bars with British Army heritage as the inspiration for its build. A blacked-out engine and exhaust and addition of commemorative badges on the cases and clocks with genuine WW2 accessories completed this glorious tribute to a time gone by.

But there was more than one prize available this year.

Architect, presenter and Tiger 900 rider, George Clarke, presented a Design Award  to Norfolk Triumph and its Flat Bonnie, while Olympian, CBE and Street Scrambler rider Victoria Pendleton chose her favourite, Reggie’s Café Racer from Oxford Triumph, for the Inspiration Award.

Custom bike builder and Triumph rider, Jody Millhouse of Thornton Hundred gave the gong for best Paint & Custom, to Edinburgh Triumph’s Speed Racer, and Triumph UK’s own General Manager, Devron Boulton picked the Speed Twin JLC from Triumph West London as his Retail Choice.

George Clarke – Design Award

Norfolk Triumph & Flat Bonnie

George notes: “what is not to love about this bike, it is a stunning build in its entirety. When you get up close and start looking at the details you start to enjoy this bike even more. The beautiful 1970’s retro gold paint, the classic tail with the name, the wrapped custom exhausts and extended forks. I absolutely love the detail, great job to the team at Norfolk Triumph.”

Victoria Pendleton – Inspiration Award

Oxford Triumph & Reggie’s Café Racer

Victoria adds: “This bike is not only a beautiful nostalgic 1950’s style café racer, it has also been built to commemorate somebody very special, and that for me really stood out. I love the polished chrome and the tiny details such as the brake light and the fuel cap. Congratulations to the team at Oxford Triumph for this sentimental and inspiring build.”

Jody Millhouse – Paint & Custom Award

Edinburgh Triumph & Speed Racer

Jody mentions: “This bike just popped out at me, the colours and the iconic fairing. The paint scheme is an iconic nod-back to race bikes of the 70s, classic early Hinckley-inspired blue and white highlights, reminiscent of the paint work made famous on the Daytona 1200. The combination of modern running gear with a classic overall look is a fantastic combination and that is what I love about this bike.”

Devron Boulton – Retail Choice Award

Triumph West London & Speed Twin JLC

Devron comments: “This bike is a great fusion of two fantastic Triumph models, the Speed Twin combined with the Thruxton R and I think the two come together in perfect harmony. I can absolutely imagine a customer buying this particular bike, it looks beautiful and finished with a classic black paint scheme. A fantastic custom build from the team at Triumph West London.”

Details of the nine finalist Bonneville Build-Off entrants can be found on the Bonneville Build-Off website with access to images and the background of each build.

Devron Boulton, Triumph UK & Ireland General Manager said: “Thank you to all nine Triumph dealerships for crafting and assembling a range of bespoke and truly custom Bonneville’s. Each team has clearly displayed a lot of thought and creativity throughout the build. Thank you to the public and all those that voted, shared and supported the dealers and their builds and finally thank you to our great cast of judges for this year’s Bonneville Build-Off.”

The extensive range of Triumph accessories allow the freedom of customisation and personalisation on every motorcycle, ranging from styling elements to performance enhancements, adapting the bike to suit the ride. Built by riders for riders, the genuine quality parts and accessories are available at all Triumph dealerships.

The new MSX125 Grom – Honda’s internationally-popular mini-bike

2021 HONDA MSX125 GROM

The Honda MSX125 returns for 2021 with a new name – the MSX125 Grom – a radical new look and a new engine that underpins its easy-to-use, fun and functional nature.

On sale in Europe as the MSX125 since 2013, Honda’s ultra-fun minibike follows a tradition started in the 60s with the Monkey and continued through other much-loved machines such as the Dax and Ape up to the present day. For 2021, the new version adds the ‘Grom’ name used elsewhere across the world (becoming the ‘MSX125 Grom’) for the mini-bike which has been an international hit with young riders, racking up sales of over 750,000 units. As a term used since the 1960s to describe young surfers, ‘Grom’ is the perfect moniker for a mini-bike with a fun, counter-culture spirit.

The new 7.2kW air-cooled engine blends accessible roll-on performance with useful all-round ability and now features a 5th gear for out of town riding; it is matched to a responsive, easy-to-ride chassis equipped with 31mm USD forks, 12in wheels and disc brakes front and rear. The ABS system operates through an IMU. Seat height is a welcoming 761mm, and the redesigned sharp and compact LCD meter now features a rev-counter and gear position indicator.

The biggest change for 2021 is the radical new look that brings a quirky, distinctive individuality from a new sleek LED headlight, pared-down seat unit and subframe, and super-compact side panels and tank covers. The gold forks and brake calipers and yellow rear suspension finish off the head-turning styling. Easy-to-change bodywork further promotes adaptability and customisation opportunities for Honda’s small bike with a big attitude.

More Details can be found here

2021 HONDA MSX125 GROM

2021 HONDA MSX125 GROM

Honda’s pocket-sized funster gets a new name, plus retro-cool style update, with easily-removed body panels and new, EURO5-specification air-cooled engine with five-speed gearbox. Revised LCD dash includes rev-counter and gear position indicator.

  1. Introduction

Easy to use, fun and functional, the original leisure motorcycle was defined by Honda in 1963 with the iconic, small-wheeled Monkey bike and carried on – redefined for each respective generation – with the Dax, Ape and the Monkey, itself reborn in 2018.

The formula has found resonance with the new breed of young riders. Known as ‘Generation Y’ in the USA, ‘Dek Neaw’ in Thailand and ‘Street-Kei’ in Japan, they have grown up in the borderless internet age, and share a culture, outlook and spirit that defies convention.

Instinctively drawn to motorcycling, they need their first two-wheeled transport to be exciting but not unduly challenging, with a design that sets them apart and a reasonable price tag. In 2013 Honda introduced the MSX125 (Mini Street X-treme 125) to cater specifically for such young riders.

A truly global product the MSX125 (known as the ‘Grom’ in Japan and USA) has been a hit across the world. In its first sales season the MSX125 joined the CBF125 in the ranks of Europe’s top 5 best-selling 125cc motorcycles. And, over the last few years, it has established itself as a firm favourite, whether used for simple urban transport or as a heavily customised style statement by its target market.

After 6 years of quiet success and several small styling evolutions, with an eye on the next wave of young riders, it’s time for a new MSX125. Or, to give it its new official European name, a new MSX125 Grom. Fully refreshed, with an even cooler direction of travel, it’s still Honda’s little machine with big dreams.

  1. Model Overview

Completely redesigned bodywork gives the MSX125 Grom a new design language; fresh and fun, it’s also easily removed ready for an owner’s creativity to get to work. The updated LCD dash also now includes a rev-counter and gear position indicator.

A new air-cooled engine maintains the usable performance of the MSX125 but adds an extra fifth gear. And the unchanged chassis offers the same small-bike dimensions with big-bike suspension, braking and handling qualities.

2021 HONDA MSX125 GROM
  1. Key Features

3.1 Styling & Equipment

  • Redesigned bodywork elevates individuality
  • Easy custom potential; all four panels attach with just six bolts each side
  • LCD dash now includes rev counter and gear position indicator

The previous MSX125’s look was very much a miniature reflection of the modern lines of  Honda’s sport naked motorcycles of the time. For 2021, the new MSX125 Grom takes a different design direction.

There’s a new kind of quirkiness about the bodywork – a distinctive individuality that mixes the modernity of sleek LED headlight, pared-down seat unit and subframe with the retro of the super-compact side panels and tank covers. And, influenced by customers’ ongoing  efforts to make their bike unique, the MSX125 Grom is designed around the concept of adaptability and easy customisation – all of the bodywork attaches with six bolts each side, a detail highlighted by large bolt surrounds for another unique design touch.

The gold finish to the USD front forks, and yellow shock spring stand out in bright contrast to the blacked-out engine, exhaust, wheels and swingarm. Easy to read for its compact size the LCD digital dash has been redesigned to include a rev-counter and gear position indicator, alongside the speedometer, twin trip meters, fuel gauge and clock. Resetting of the trip meters and clock, or alternation between odometer and trip meter, is managed by the switches either side of the display.

The new 2021 MSX125 Grom will be available in the following colour options:

Force Silver Metallic

Mat Gunpowder Black Metallic

Gayety Red

2021 HONDA MSX125 GR

3.2 Engine

  • All-new, 125cc air-cooled two-valve engine
  • Five-speed gearbox improves out-of-town cruising potential
  • EURO5 compliance

The MSX125 Grom has a new, 125cc two-valve air-cooled engine, with 50mm bore and 63.1mm stroke, and compression ratio of 10.0:1. Peak power of 7.2kW arrives at 7,250rpm, with peak torque of 10.5Nm at 5,500rpm.

Just like the previous design, the MSX125 Grom’s engine packs a perfect blend of zippy roll-on performance with useful, accessible all-round ability. Really, this unit all about fun of twisting a throttle, but one major upgrade that riders will appreciate is the application of a 5-speed gearbox (rather than 4-speed) to spread the ratios further and give more relaxed, higher-speed cruising. Top speed goes from 92km/h to 94km/h.

Manual clutch operation still imparts a full-sized motorcycle experience, while the 15T gearbox sprocket, 38T final drive sprocket and 12-inch wheels deliver lively around-town response plus the ability to travel slowly in a high gear – perfect for threading easily through tight traffic.

It’s also economical, returning 66.6km/l (WMTC mode) by using low-friction technologies, such as an offset cylinder and roller-rocker arm for the valve gear. Sophisticated PGM-FI guarantees highly efficient combustion, and works in conjunction with both air intake and exhaust to deliver an involving experience at the throttle. A large, 2.5L airbox and panel-type, wet paper filter provide reliable and quiet airflow; the filter itself has a life of 10,000 miles. The exhaust downpipe and muffler are now two separate parts.

The MSX125 Grom is homologated for EURO5, which from January 1st 2020, introduced significantly stricter engine emissions standards compared to EURO4. These requirements include substantial reductions in permitted carbon monoxide emissions, an over 40% decrease in total hydrocarbon emissions, tougher misfire detection and the introduction of a particulate matter limit.

2021 HONDA MSX125 GROM

3.3 Chassis

  • Steel mono-backbone frame provides central strength; 761mm seat height
  • Quality suspension performance from 31mm USD forks and rear monoshock
  • 12-inch wheel rims and hydraulic disc brakes front and rear

The MSX125 Grom’s well-proven chassis is essentially unchanged during its 2021 makeover, and the original priorities of design remain relevant: provide the base for a practical bike that new riders could use – and park – with ease in an urban environment, but be just as useable and enjoyable out of town, and also readily accept a pillion.

A steel mono-backbone frame ensures the MSX125 Grom’s core strength. Its rigid, square-section tube joins the headstock directly to the swingarm pivot plates and every other part in effect hangs visibly from the frame, greatly contributing to the minimalist look. Specifically tuned vertical/horizontal rigidity and flex in the swingarm pivot and engine hanger plates provides the perfect balance of comfort and confidence.

The frame structure also enables efficient storage of PGM-FI-related components and electrical parts inside the tank cover and fuel capacity is increased (6.0L). Wheelbase is a snug 1200mm, with rake and trail of 25°/84mm. Kerb weight is reduced to 103kg. A low 761mm seat height makes the MSX125 Grom very manageable; its size also ensures that motor home owners find it easy to load/unload, transport and use.

Suspension front and rear delivers ‘beyond class’ quality. The 31mm USD fork reduces unsprung weight and, thanks to the pistons’ greater pressure-bearing area (compared to a standard telescopic fork) offers improved damping feel throughout the stroke. The top and bottom yokes are full-sized, further enhancing handling and rider feel while a lightweight and robust single rear shock operates a simple and tough H-shape, 50mm x 25mm steel box section swingarm.

Fundamental to the MSX Grom’s form and function are its 5-spoke (re-styled) 12-inch cast aluminium wheels, which feature wide 2.5-inch rims. Front 120/70-12 and 130/70-12 rear tyres also inject dynamic looks and performance. Hydraulic dual piston front (finished in gold) and single piston rear brake calipers work front 220mm and rear 190mm discs. The ABS system operates through an IMU.

The Ultimate Gravel Traveller Introducing The New KTM 890 Adventure

The ride doesn’t need to end when the road does… Rolling into view as the perfect choice for finding new boundaries off the beaten tracks, the 2021 KTM 890 ADVENTURE comes with more engine grunt, improved handling, added suspension adjustability and rider focused technology to form the right tool for endless road or gravel exploration.

It has never been a better time to reach out to the world on a bike. Getting from A to B safely, quickly and efficiently has always been important, but to do it aboard a machine carrying KTM’s READY TO RACE DNA takes the experience to new levels. A new model for 2021, the KTM 890 ADVENTURE takes the lightweight and sporty characteristics you’d expect from a KTM ADVENTURE motorcycle to deliver a supremely capable adventure tourer – both on and off the tarmac.

The KTM 790 ADVENTURE formed a robust basis for KTM engineers to begin their search to offer more – much more – while still maintaining that resourcefulness, light touch and confidence-inspiring handling. The new 889cc compact engine raises performance figures to 105 hp and 100 Nm of torque and the 20% extra rotating mass of the crankshaft brings an improved feeling at low revs while augmenting the centralised sensation and traction through corners. The KTM 890 ADVENTURE comes with a refined and stronger clutch to cope with the boosted performance and the powerplant is Euro5 compliant.

A new WP APEX rear shock offers greater rider customisation potential through a new rebound damping adjuster and an additional hand adjuster for spring preload. The suspension matches the rest of the chassis configuration in placing the bike firmly between use for the tarmac and the trail.

Want the thrill of the gravel and breaking traction? Then count on 200mm of suspension travel, Dakar Rally-inspired ergonomics that mean the bike is comparably slim, light and manageable, an accessible seat height, a low fender, a 20-litre tank and KTM MY RIDE navigation.

Prefer the flat expanses of the road? The KTM 890 ADVENTURE has Adventure-spec tyres, a full-size TFT dashboard, Cornering ABS, Motorcycle Traction Control and Motor Slip Regulation, a seat that is adjustable in two heights and a strong yet lightweight subframe for pillion or baggage.

A range of KTM PowerPart upgrades means that Cruise Control (with the handlebar switch now provided as standard), a Quickshifter+ (with optimized settings), heated seat and grips together with a wide compliment of luggage widens the travel potential of the KTM 890 ADVENTURE even more.

KTM 890 ADVENTURE – MODEL HIGHLIGHTS
// New engine with 90 cc added displacement
// Improved performance with 105 hp and 100 Nm (Euro5)
// Better rideability thanks to 20% increased rotating mass
// Stronger clutch adapted to increased performance
// Engine knock control system (use of low Octane fuel)
// High-quality WP suspension components and new rear shock
// Reworked front and rear brakes for added control
// Improved ABS and MTC settings
// Anodized wheel hubs instead of powder coated

// Weight optimization thanks to compact motor and fuel tank
// Slim profile, refined ergonomics and new graphics
// Travel-ready with two-part, adjustable seat and low fender
// Smartphone connectivity giving access to music, calls
// Optional KTM MY RIDE app for turn-by-turn navigation

Joachim Sauer, KTM Product Manager Travel: “With the development of the new KTM 890 ADVENTURE we hit all our marks by offering an upgraded machine for both road and gravel riding. With the new engine we worked a lot on optimising the overall performance and feeling while out riding. The result is a big improvement in the bike’s rideability, better stability, less gear shifting and added comfort for the long days on the saddle. With the KTM 890 ADVENTURE we wanted a KTM that sets the benchmark through its performance on the tarmac while being able to veer offroad and keep the same high standards. As a true KTM ADVENTURE, this is a great machine to adventure everywhere.”

The KTM 890 ADVENTURE will be arriving at authorised KTM dealers in the UK from January 2021 onwards. For more info, visit ktm.com.

The new BMW R 1250 RT

For more than four decades, the BMW Motorrad abbreviation “RT” has been synonymous in the world of dynamic touring motorcycles. To ensure that this continues to be the case in the future, BMW Motorrad has made extensive changes and innovations to the new R 1250 RT.

“We have given the R 1250 RT a new look, a comprehensive increase in standard equipment and numerous technical upgrades to achieve a whole new riding experience. As a dynamic tourer with the incomparable BMW ShiftCam engine, it also has the perfect power unit with impressive power across the entire speed range” Harald Spagl, Project Manager

The new BMW R 1250 RT: The benchmark among dynamic tourers is even more sophisticated and innovative for maximum motorcycle enjoyment on extended journeys.

For more than four decades, the BMW Motorrad abbreviation “RT” has been synonymous in the world of dynamic touring motorcycles, combining comfort on long journeys with dynamic riding pleasure on country roads. More than that: a BMW RT has always sets the benchmark in this class. To ensure that this continues to be the case in the future, BMW Motorrad has made extensive changes and innovations to the new R 1250 RT – for even greater riding pleasure and touring enjoyment at the very highest level. As before, the legendary 2-cylinder boxer engine ensures comfortable travel and dynamic propulsion. It still has an engine capacity of 1 254 cc and delivers 100 kW (136 hp) in the current EU5 registration, too. Thanks to BMW ShiftCam technology for varying valve timing and valve lift on the intake side, it offers superior power across the entire speed range, extremely smooth running and refinement as well as outstanding fuel consumption and emission values.

Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and new “Eco” riding mode as standard. Riding Modes Pro with riding mode preselection and engine drag torque control (MSR) as options.

The standard Dynamic Traction Control DTC ensures a high level of riding safety due to excellent traction, while the new standard “Eco” riding mode helps the rider achieve the best possible fuel efficiency.

The new R 1250 RT Adventure can be fitted with the “Pro Riding Modes” as an ex works option. Another new component of Riding Modes Pro is the engine drag torque control (MSR): this can be used to safely avoid unstable riding conditions that can occur during coasting or downshifting due to excessive brake slip at the rear wheel.

New BMW Full Integral ABS Pro as standard.

In its latest edition, the R 1250 RT is equipped as standard with the new BMW Motorrad Full Integral ABS Pro. This is a braking system in which both the hand and foot brake levers are used to apply the front and rear brakes simultaneously. Combined with the qualities of ABS Pro with banking angle optimisation and dynamic brake force distribution, Full Integral ABS Pro is the perfect braking system for a touring bike such as the R 1250 RT.

New full LED headlamp with turning light and new light functions as ex works options.

The new standard full LED headlamp already illuminates the road with unrivalled brightness and clarity. The new headlamp with swivel function goes one step further: with the “Adaptive Turning Light” option, the dipped beam of the standard full LED headlamp turns into the bend according to the banking position. In this way, the bend is almost fully illuminated because the light moves to where the motorcycle is heading. Thanks to new light functions, the riding experience on the new R 1250 RT is even more intense – and there are practical benefits, too. For example, the “Welcome” function, the “Goodbye” function for taking leave and the “Follow me home” function for guidance purposes will be available as optional extras in future.

Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) as standard. Active Cruise Control (ACC) – cruise control with integrated distance control for relaxed touring as an ex works option.

In connection with the standard Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) , “dynamic” means that the preselected speed is kept at a constant level when riding downhill. If the braking effect of the engine is not sufficient for this, the fully integral brake is automatically activated so as to maintain the desired riding speed. Active Cruise Control (ACC), available as an optional extra, goes one step further. Thanks to radar sensor technology, it enables relaxed gliding with distance control – and there is no need for the rider to adapt road speed to the vehicle in front.

New 10.25” TFT colour screen with integrated map navigation for convenient route planning and extensive connectivity as standard.

The new R 1250 RT is fitted with a 10.25-inch TFT colour screen with integrated map navigation and connectivity. Its excellent readability, clear menu navigation and highly integrated operating concept put the new R 1250 RT at the top of the range of serial production motorcycles. For the first time on a motorcycle, the new 10.25-inch colour screen makes it possible to display a navigation map in the instrument cluster, so no additional display is needed.

Along with the introduction of standard connectivity and the navigation map shown on the screen, the new “Comfort telephony with extended smartphone connection” option is available. A smartphone can be securely accommodated in a storage compartment that is protected from splash water and ventilated by an electric fan, and its battery can be kept ready for use inductively or via USB connection. With the Audio System 2.0, the new R 1250 RT offers an even more intense sound experience than its predecessor.

The new R 1250 RT: enhanced travel capability and dynamic performance thanks to new fairing. Exclusive touring character in an attractive basic paint finish and refined style variants.

Thanks to a newly developed front fairing, the new R 1250 RT now not only looks fresher and more dynamic, it also has enhanced travel and touring qualities thanks to additional aerodynamic advancements. Not only does the new front fairing enclose the new full LED headlamps, for example, but the upper section of the fairing is now reduced in height, too. This results in a wider field of vision for the rider, while at the same time making the new R 1250 RT appear lighter and more dynamic. In addition to the attractive basic version in Alpine White 3, the new R 1250 RT is also available in the refined Style variants “Elegance”, “Sport” and “Option 719”.

The highlights of the new BMW R 1250 RT:

• Authentic boxer engine with BMW ShiftCam Technology for variation of the valve timings and valve stroke on the intake side.
• Powerful response across the entire engine speed range, exemplary fuel consumption, emission levels, running smoothness and refinement.
• Output and torque: 100 kW (136 hp) at 7 750 rpm and 143 Nm at 6 250 rpm.
• Knock sensor system for optimised travel suitability.
• New BMW Motorrad Full Integral ABS Pro as standard.
• Three riding modes as standard.
• New “Eco” riding mode for particularly economical riding as standard.
• Riding Modes Pro with additional riding mode “Dynamic” and new engine drag torque control (MSR) as an ex works option.
• Dynamic Traction Control DTC as standard
