Two Exceptionally Rare Pioneer Japanese Motorcycles For Sale

Two exceptionally rare pioneer Japanese motorcycles that were to become Suzuki and Kawasaki – with Iconic Auctioneers at the Shuttleworth Spring Motorcycle Sale on April 7th 2024.

Two rare 60 year old Japanese bikes that will intrigue collectors have emerged for sale with Iconic Auctioneers.

1958 Colleda 250TT 247cc -£12,000 – £14,000
A genuine piece of Japanese Motorcycle history, this 1958 Colleda TT250 is the only known Colleda 250TT outside of Japan.

“This is a very very rare bike, with only seven or eight known to exist, mostly found in museums or private collections in Japan,” says Mark Bryan Head of Motorcycle Sales at Iconic Auctioneers. Its styling is very much inspired by the Japanese fascination of the 1950’s American car and bike styling of the time . The Colleda marque went on to become part of the Suzuki empire. This example is one of approximately eight known surviving examples of the Colleda 250TT and probably the only one outside of Japan. Estimate £12,000 – £14,000

Colleda (Japanese for “This Is The One”) started producing bikes under the pre-Suzuki “SJK” brand name in 1954 with the Colleda 90. They manufactured bikes until 1964 and after that were called Suzuki.

The 250TT was very much the predecessor of the 2-stroke, twin-cylinder 250cc range of bikes that would include the Suzuki T20 and GT250. Very much a NASA/Flash Gordon style of design that reflected the space race of that period.

Correct numbers and presented in mostly original and unrestored condition. Forming part of a large Japanese collection for some time so will require recommissioning before use. The engine turns over with good compression.

1963 Meguro S-8 Junior 250cc – £6,000 – £8,000
Rare, original and unrestored pre-Kawasaki, Meguro S-8 Junior for an estimate of £6,000 – £8,000

This second rare pioneer Japanese bike is a 1963 Meguro S-8 250 Junior. The Meguro marque went on to become part of Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Meguro were one of the first producers of motorcycles in Japan, having started in the late 1930s from their Tokyo factory.

Investing in Harley Davidson after the US Great Depression gave them the technical insight that helped their business. Post WW2, they were one of the largest builders of bikes, competing against Honda and by 1960 were absorbed into the Kawasaki Group.

This, correct numbers, later example is one of the 4-stroke, single-cylinder models produced in the 1950s/1960s. The S-8 Junior is a 250cc OHV single and unusually for the time features an electric start. It is the last model produced by Meguro with rear suspension and is presented in mostly original and unrestored condition.

On offer directly from a private Japanese Collection and UK import taxes have been paid.

Part of a museum display for 20 years so will require recommissioning before use. The engine turns over with good compression. One of only a few hundred known examples and supplied complete with a selection of spares.

A great opportunity to acquire an historic Japanese classic motorcycle.

Mark Bryan comments: “These two Japanese bikes may not be big value lots, but as they are super rare I know they will attract some serious worldwide attention.”

MV Agusta Closes a Successful Year and Gears up Production in Schiranna

It’s been a year since the announcement of the strategic partnership between MV Agusta and PIERER Mobility AG. Joining Europe’s leading motorcycle group, MV Agusta tapped in on synergies, processes and strengths, immediately achieving incredible results. In the past 12 months, MV Agusta launched 5 staggering new models, the LXP Orioli the world’s first luxury all-terrain motorcycle, the iconic Superveloce 98, the wicked Brutale 1000 RR Assen, the limited edition Dragster RR SCS America and the super exclusive 6-units-only Superveloce Arsham, a true work of art.

Looking back at this extraordinary year, there are a number of milestones that are worth mentioning and celebrating:

New Production Line

The latest milestone is represented by the new production line through which MV Agusta is now stepping up its industrial operations. The new line will turn out up to one thousand bikes per month. The new line is located in MV Agusta’s historic factory in Schiranna, and features the most advanced technology in the field.

MV Agusta’s master craftsmen, still assembling every model by hand, will be seconded by a fully automated line management system for the handling, moving and correct positioning of the units along the 28 workstations, with a particular focus on ergonomics and safety. This represents the first major investment for MV Agusta in several years, as part of its new and ambitious industrial plan.

The initial production will be around 1.000 units per month, but the new line has a total capacity of 100 bikes per day, and plans are to gradually increase output to match demand.

Timur Sardarov, CEO, MV Agusta Motor S.p.A., said: “I am so excited about this new line launching right here, in our historic plant in Italy, while many other industries are delocalising or even stepping down production. All the efforts we’ve been putting in over the past couple of years are coming together and we are now seeing some very concrete results, with growing numbers and the increasing success of our latest models. This is not only an investment in our own operations, but also in this community and in our people.”

4-year Factory Warranty

Another crucial milestone was introduced in the first half of 2023, when MV Agusta launched a 4-year Factory Warranty for all model year 2023 bikes. This strategic decision reflects the brand’s dedication to a customer-centric approach. The extended warranty not only enhances the MV Agusta customer experience but also serves as a tangible testament to the company’s unwavering confidence in its fully Made-in-Italy motorcycles and the rigorous processes each bike undergoes.

24/7 Roadside Assistance

MV Agusta also offers a lifetime 24/7 roadside assistance, activated upon the purchase of any MV Agusta motorcycle, in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Spain, and the UK, with additional countries to follow. This comprehensive assistance package ensures that MV Agusta customers can fully enjoy the thrill of riding, with services ranging from on-the-spot repairs and towing to authorised dealers to technical assistance, transportation to the desired destination, and a variety of supplementary services such as replacement vehicles, repatriation of the vehicle from abroad, and accommodation. These initiatives underscore MV Agusta’s commitment to setting new industry standards and continuously elevating customer experience.

MV Agusta have also set the foundations for an incredible 2024.

Stronger and expanded dealer network

2024 will see the MV Agusta’s dealer network expand, with the target of 200 dealers active by mid-year with the focus on its most relevant markets. As an example, the home market of MV Agusta, Italy, will benefit from 21 official dealers in 2024 which will be supported by authorized service centres. Those will enable customers to have access to trained technicians to service and maintain their MV Agusta motorcycles. The dealer network will also be expanded in other markets, such as USA where more than 40 dealers will be active in 2024, Germany, UK, France, and more.

System integration

2024 will also see all integrations with the PIERER Mobility AG’s systems finalized. For all MV Agusta products to be distributed by KTM, a great number of integrations were needed: from logistic and inventory software to IT and dealer management tools. Those integrations will be finalized by the end of Q1 2024, reducing sensibly the delivery time for parts, motorcycles, services and resulting in a much-improved customer experience.

Reinforced customer-centric approach

MV Agusta aims to know each customer by name and with this goal in mind a series of initiatives will start taking place in 2024. An exciting example of it is represented by the reintroduction of factory tours. MV Agusta will in fact open thedoors to its only production plant in Italy. For existing customers and MV Agusta fans, in fact, it will be possible to visit the factory with tours that will be organized by MV Agusta official dealers. Such initiatives will provide the unique opportunity for MV Agusta customers to witness how every MV Agusta motorcycle in the world is hand-built in Italy and to get to know the people behind these engineering masterpieces.

New models coming

Throughout the course of 2024, MV Agusta fans will be delighted with new exciting models, such as the Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro, which was displayed at EICMA in its final development stage. More pieces of art on two wheels will be launched and more information will come in the upcoming months.

Luca Martin, MV Agusta Motor S.p.A. Board Member and COO, declared: “When we look back at the beginning of 2023 we are astonished by the number of changes, implementations, improvements that have been put in place during this first year working together with KTM. Was it all perfect? No. We always strive for perfection, and therefore we are proud of what has been done, but at the same time we are fully aware of what can be further improved.

We are fully aware that our customers have experienced challenges, such as the delay in parts delivery or the renewed dealer network which hasn’t had an optimal penetration in the territory. I want to take this opportunity to again let our customers and fans know that we listen to them, and every decision of ours is based on one unique goal: putting our customers at the centre of our attention.

When we decided to reboot the entire dealer network, we were aware that this would have created disruption at the beginning of the process, but we are also sure that such decision has taken MV Agusta on the right path to provide the best customer experience in the future. The dealer network will further expand in 2024, with an improved penetration, our product ambassadors and technicians at each single dealerships are being extensively trained and the selection process for business owners to work with MV Agusta is very strict. Customers are at the centre of our approach and to achieve that we have a lot to do.

Same goes regarding parts availability. The warehouse and system integration with PIERER Mobility AG has taken a considerable amount of time, causing temporary disruptions, but such process will be finalized in early 2024 and such challenges for our customers will end. I personally believe that transparency is the best way to create a healthy relationship with our customers and fans and therefore I wanted to take this opportunity to openly address the challenges that our customers have faced in 2023 and to thank them for their passion and love.”

Iconic Auctioneers Launch 2024 With The Most “Iconic” British Motorcycle Sidecars

Iconic auctioneers launch 2024 with the most “Iconic” British motorcycle sidecars at the Shuttleworth Spring Motorcycle Sale on 7th April 2024

In its first sale of 2024 Iconic Auctioneers are offering two fabulous examples of British motorcycling history – Brough and Vincent.

These brands were the pinnacle of British motorcycling from the 1930s until the 1950s and are still revered by enthusiasts to today. Expensive in period and expensive today, these models are often the icing on the cake of motorcycle collections worldwide.

1939 Brough Superior SS80 990cc – Guide Price: £60,000 – £70,000

Pictured above is possibly the most complete and original Brough Superior Combination ever to be offered at auction. The SS80 reappeared as part of what became the final range of Brough Superior machines in 1935 with production continuing until 1939.

It utilised the AMC side-valve V-twin, as fitted to the Matchless Model X, though with subtle differences in specification and a crankshaft to Brough’s preferred design. Unusually, Brough offered a range of sidecars, an important market in the thirties, alongside its distinctive motorcycles. These were built by outside suppliers to a specification that echoed the looks and characteristics of the chosen machine.

The Alpine Grand Sport Cruiser was in fact built by Brough and utilised a single frame tube which doubled as a spare petrol container, holding over a gallon. US 276 is possibly the most complete and original Brough Superior Combination ever to be offered at auction. This SS80 is matching numbers and is still attached to the Alpine Grand Sport Cruiser ‘Petrol Tube’ sidecar specified when new.

It was first registered in April 1939 by Brough agents, Alexander & Co. of Glasgow. With known history from day one, this outstanding and desirable Brough Combination’ is a true rarity, seldom seen on the open market, an incredible opportunity. It is presented in running order and complete with its current V5C.

1951 Vincent Rapide Series C 998cc – Guide Price £35,000 – £40,000

This correct numbers, Series C Vincent Rapide fitted with a Steib sidecar – guided at £35,000 – £40,000 – will doubtless create huge interest when it comes to auction in the spring.

Post-war Vincents bristled with innovative features and were finished to a remarkably high standard, resulting in a showroom price that was virtually double that of its contemporaries. However, it was the fabulous performance on offer from the powerful 998cc V-Twin that became legendary and is still talked about with reverence today. With a top speed of over 100mph, the Vincent V-twin was the fastest vehicle on the road at the time.

This, correct numbers, example is presented in ‘older restoration’ condition and retains great patina. It comes fitted with a period Steib sidecar. It has been running recently but may require some recommissioning before road use. It is being sold complete with a large history file that includes numerous receipts, VOC dating certificate, old RF60 dated 1965, old V5C, old MOTs, copy of old road test report, copies of dispatch check sheets and other related paperwork.

These two bikes are just two of the fantastic vehicles up for sale at Iconic Auctioneers next motorcycle auction at Shuttleworth, Old Warden Park, Bedfordshire, SG18 9EP on 7th April 2024. Iconic Auctioneers are also inviting further entries for this sale along with its other two motorcycle auctions in 2024. Ducati Diavel for Bentley: exclusivity, performance and craftsmanship in a true two-wheeled work of art

Ducati and Bentley are proud to jointly announce a new, limited-edition motorcycle that celebrates the best of both iconic brands: the Ducati Diavel for Bentley. Born from the collaboration between the two manufacturers, the project links Ducati and Bentley with a vision of performance, craftsmanship and exclusivity. The result is a striking synthesis of technology, style and performance capable of making enthusiasts dream. The bike was revealed to the public with a ‘fuorisalone’ event in the context of the Art Basel week in Miami Beach, the overseas edition of the most prestigious European contemporary art fair.

On the sophisticated technical base of the high-performance and comfortable Diavel V4, Ducati has integrated many style characterizing elements of the Bentley Batur – a limited-series model handcrafted by Bentley – to create a motorcycle unique in terms of elegance and design. The Diavel for Bentley will be created in a numbered series limited to 500+50 examples, the latter reserved for Bentley customers.
The Centro Stile Ducati, in collaboration with Bentley designers, created a new design for this special motorbike, drawing inspiration from the Batur from which it takes the mainly horizontal lines of the side view. The Scarab Green colour, sophisticated and refined, rich in metallic shades, comes from the Bentley Mulliner palette and is used throughout the bodywork.

The decisive and aggressive lines of the Diavel V4 have also been profoundly revised through the technical components:  many of the characteristic features of the Batur are taken up in different parts of the bike. The forged rims, designed and created for this motorbike, recall the shapes of those of the car and are painted in Dark Titanium Satin, leaving some machined surfaces visible.

The side air intakes reflect the two-tone front grille, one of the most recognizable elements of the Batur. The triangular rear extractors refer to the corresponding elements of the car. The front mudguard, the fairing and the upper view of the tank recall the ribs on the front bonnet, while the single-seater tail, which can be replaced with a passenger seat, takes many styling cues from the double-layer extractor on the back of the car.

Many of the bodywork components are made of high-quality carbon fibre (fenders, headlamp cover, engine, exhaust and radiator covers, radiator shrouds, side panels, tail piece).

The rider’s seat, in black Alcantara, is inspired by the interior of the car, is achieved with precision workmanship that reveals the underlying red fabric with the same texture of that of the Batur seats and with the Bentley logo embroidered on the rear pad. The dual outlet exhaust, with its cover, has been redesigned to harmonize with the refined lines of the bike.

Batur is Bentley’s most powerful production car ever, with a 740 PS twin-turbo W12 engine, coach-built in just 18 examples. More than that, the Batur combines benchmark Bentley craftsmanship with sculptured, muscular bodywork that defines a new design DNA for Bentley with previews a new design direction for the brand. The visual message communicates great power and elegance, without ostentation or excess. The 18 examples of the Batur are individually hand-crafted by Mulliner, the oldest coachbuilder in the world and Bentley’s in-house bespoke division. In addition to the 500 Diavel for Bentley examples, Ducati also offers a series of just 50 examples, called Diavel for Bentley Mulliner. The 50 Diavel for Bentley Mulliners will be available exclusively to Bentley customers, who through direct collaboration with the designers of the Centro Stile Ducati, will be able to configure their Diavel for Bentley Mulliner with different colours for the saddle, front brake calipers, carbon fibre parts and rims. They will also be able to choose the same colour as their car for the bodywork parts or one of those from the exclusive palette selected by the designers of the Crewe company.

The Diavel for Bentley, like all collectible Ducatis, is delivered with a certificate of authenticity, a passenger seat and a motorcycle cover. The name of the model and the production number of the unit are engraved on a plate inserted in the carbon fibre cover of the vertical head , on the right side of the motorcycle. Both the dashboard, equipped as standard with turn-by-turn navigator, and the LED matrix of the rear light cluster offer a special animation at the key-on which makes the Diavel for Bentley even more unmistakable. Finally, each Diavel for Bentley will be delivered in an exclusive personalized wooden case. The collaboration between the two manufacturers has also led to the creation of a Capsule Collection, reserved for Diavel for Bentley owners, which allows customers to complete their look with a jet helmet and a technical jacket (available in both men’s and women’s versions) in a limited edition, characterized by a colour scheme that reflects that of the motorbike.

The Diavel for Bentley adopts the 1,158 cc V4 Granturismo engine, a central element of its design and at the same time a highly refined technical choice. Powerful (168 hp), rich in torque but also extremely light and compact, it is at the same time fluid, regular and usable right from the lowest revs. The Twin Pulse combustion order, together with the dedicated exhaust system, unmistakably characterize the timbre of the exhaust.

Superveloce Arsham

The most exclusive collaboration in the motorcycle world.

MV Agusta and Daniel Arsham announce their collaboration in creating a super-exclusive limited series to 6 units of MV Agusta Superveloce: The Superveloce Arsham. The Italian luxury motorcycle manufacturer MV Agusta and internationally acclaimed artist Daniel Arsham have joined forces for the creation of a dedicated super-exclusive limited series of Superveloce, presented to the world at Miami Art Basel on December 8th.

The MV Agusta Superveloce is MV Agusta’s most iconic motorcycle currently in production and its distinctive neo-retro design was chosen by the New York-based artis to create a true art piece using his iconic erosion technique.

Daniel Arsham is known for breaking the rules of academic artistry, a trait fully expressed in his signature “erosion” technique. Arsham’s avant-garde erosion method renders the concept of passing time through sculptures. Working in a multitude of disciplines, he creates and crystallizes ambiguous in-between spaces and situations, and stages what he refers to as future relics of the present. Always iconic, most of the objects that he fabricates refer to the late 20th century or millennial era, when technological obsolescence unprecedentedly accelerated along with the digital dematerialization of our world. While the present, the future and the past poetically collide in his intruiging yet playful visions between romanticism and pop art, Arsham also experiments with the timelessness of certain symbols and gestures across cultures.

The concept is astonishingly reminiscent of the intimate nature of the Superveloce itself: disturbingly attractive, avant-garde, incredibly iconic and high-tech yet with clear references to the great classics of motorcycling, MV Agusta’s Superveloce was a natural choice for this project. The series will be limited to only 6 units, this will also make this particular model a true rarity and an object of desire for passionate collectors.

Timur Sardarov, CEO, MV Agusta Motor S.p.A., said: “I am thrilled about this incredible collaboration with Daniel Arsham, an artist I truly admire and that has so much in common with MV Agusta in terms of values and philosophy. His works are amazingly inspiring, and together we will take our Motorcycle Art to the next level. ”

Daniel Arsham, said: “I was always fascinated by the automotive world. The design ethos of cars and motorcycles, always fits a particular era and they mark time through their design. The project on the Superveloce was the opportunity to explore a “moving sculpture”, a functional motorcycle that have been transformed into a sculpture, by adding crystal erosions and by applying a colour that is reminiscent of my other artworks and style. Together with MV Agusta we created everything on the bike, including the stand, overcoming engineering challenges and resulting in a new interpretation of Motorcycle Art.”

Zero Motorcycles awarded Maudes Trophy after epic electric winter endurance ride

Despite temperatures plummeting to -6°C and snow and ice throwing barriers in their way the team from Zero Motorcycles completed its challenge for the Auto Cycle Union’s Maudes Trophy, riding over 1100 miles, between four points of the UK, in just over 60 hours.

Setting off from Lands End last Wednesday morning, the team of seven riders took turns to ride a pair of all-electric Zero DSR/X motorcycles in relay on a challenge set out to test and prove the viability of electric motorcycles, as well as the public charging infrastructure in the UK. The team had a trouble free first day, checking into Lowestoft, the easternmost point of the British Isles, but the ride north to Edinburgh proved treacherous as temperatures plummeted and heavy snow fell. Despite conditions deteriorating, the team carried on, albeit at reduced speeds – arriving in the icy Scottish capital in the early hours of Friday morning.

The challenge was completed on Friday, when the team rode through Cumbria and into North Wales, arriving at the final checkpoint in Holyhead mid-afternoon. From Holyhead, the bikes were ridden for a final 100 miles to Liverpool, where the team were awarded the ACU’s prestigious Maudes Trophy ahead of the FIM Awards ceremony, held at the city’s convention centre.

The Maudes Trophy was first awarded 100 years ago, to Norton Motorcycles, and is given to motorcycle manufacturers for completing observed endurance challenges. Zero are the 11th manufacturer to complete a Maudes Trophy challenge and the first to be powered by anything other than petrol.

Seven riders battled the elements to ride the bikes in shifts, including the National Motorcyclists Council’s Craig Carey-Clinch, former racer Curt Langan and bike journalist Martin Fitz-Gibbons. The remaining team members were staff from authorised Zero dealerships: Andy Dalton from Wheels Motorcycles, Matthew Drew from J&M Electrobikes and Macauley Perkins and Ben Grayson from The Bike Sanctuary.

Speaking after the challenge Dale Robinson, Zero Motorcycles’ UK Country Manager, said: “Wow, what a ride and much more an endurance of man than machine. The bikes performed faultlessly but the biggest challenge was for the riders, riding in sub-zero conditions. They stuck to the task with great dedication and not one gave up, when they could have been forgiven for doing so.

“Aside from the honour of winning this prestigious award, it has been an excellent opportunity for all involved to learn more about riding electric motorcycles in extreme conditions. Potential customers are often asking questions about touring and riding in cold temperatures. Our dealers now have first-hand experience, riding in conditions no Zero owner is likely to ever find themselves in, and we have been able to prove our product in these most challenging conditions. It feels fitting to be the first EV company to win this trophy, and 100 years after it was first awarded. Electric motorcycles are no longer the future but a viable proposition for many riders today.”

Craig Carey-Clinch added: “In such extreme cold weather conditions, teamworking was vital to the success of the ride and every member played a key part in what was a grueling ride at times. I started the challenge with an open mind about the capability of electric motorcycles on long distance journeys, but the DSR/Xs performed very well considering the extreme cold. However, when it comes to infrastructure for riders, much more needs to be done by public authorities if they want to encourage a switch to ePTWs. It’s not that charging facilities are rare, the opposite in fact, but that many have no facilities or shelter for riders waiting off their bikes. This is a matter the NMC will look in to further.”

Zero’s Maudes Trophy challenge was supported by a number of UK partners, including Lexham Insurance, Pirelli, Moto Novo Finance, Pidcock Motorcycles, Oakley Motorcycles, J&M Electrobikes, Wheels Motorcycles, Cradley Kawasaki, JPB Signs and Magnet Motos.

Introducing The KTM 1390 Super Duke R – The Beast, Reborn

The 2024 KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R and KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO have erupted into the Naked segment without warning, sending a clear message to the competition: there is a new BEAST on the prowl.

With 2024 marking 30 YEARS OF DUKE, the all-new KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R and its high-tech stablemate – the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO – have evolved into their most fearsome iterations yet.

The numbers tell the story – 1,350 cc, 190 Hp at 10,000 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm, ripping into the tarmac with pure ferocity and a new, more aggressive look to match. Impressive figures aside however, it is its effectiveness at getting power to the ground that makes it even more potent.

For 2024, THE BEAST has undergone a striking aposematic evolution, sending a clear warning message to anyone brave enough to take it on. An all-new LED headlight unit dominates, with new tank spoilers and added winglets making it known that it is not to be messed with. A further reduced subframe cover eliminates the brake light making for an even sharper look and riding experience. With a lower overall profile and more emphasis placed on the compact chassis, the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R looks more muscular and aggressive than ever before. In short, KTM upped the attitude by lowering the altitude.

A redesigned air intake and airbox see a revised fuel tank with an overall tank capacity of 17.5 litres – an increase of 1.5 litres over its predecessor. This not only takes the riding range up to around 300 km / 185 miles but also performs an important ergonomic function. In the hunt for grams, every panel has been calculated for optimum thickness and minimised where possible, with new tank spoilers and added winglets increasing downforce.

However, it is the lightweight and ‘smart’ headlight design that makes the biggest visual impact. Weighing in at nearly 700 g less than the previous unit and boasting an alien-like design, it adds an all-new aggressive glare to the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R. Position and daytime running lights are located on the profile of the headlight, which auto-adjusts in intensity according to ambient light conditions.

Additionally, the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R and KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO are fitted with Coming Home light functionality as standard. Here, the headlight will remain on for a short period of time after the ignition has been switched off, allowing for greater ambient visibility. This not only illuminates the surroundings but provides a level of safety when parking in dark areas.

Backing up its muscular stance, at the heart of this ferocious BEAST sits an enlarged powerplant – an updated version of the LC8 – further marking its territory as the alpha. The bore is increased to 110 mm to achieve an engine displacement of 1,350 cc, with an all-new cam shift integrated on the cylinder heads. This provides more power and torque throughout the rpm range and allows for a more differentiated fuel mapping to meet the latest EURO 5+ emission regulations.

Getting that power to the ground comes courtesy of new, lightweight MICHELIN Power GP tyres with dual-compound technology, as well as a new WP APEX shock absorber which is fully adjustable, allowing for separate high and low speed adjustments, rebound and toolless pre-load adjustment. Improved DCC settings provide better pressure balance resulting in less compromise between suspension comfort and performance, while new 48 mm WP APEX Open Cartridge forks with split function provide optimised settings.

On the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO however, the suspension management is taken to an all-new level with the latest generation of WP Semi-Active Technology (SAT). As the most advanced suspension system on the market, it features electronically controlled magnetic valves for variable damping, providing a wide range of adjustability – from maximum comfort to track-ready stiffness. Here, the SCU (Suspension Control Unit) adapts the damping rates via the magnetic valves in real-time, reading the road surface and rider style to automatically adjust the suspension on the fly.

The technology feast doesn’t end there, with both the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R and KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO debuting updated PERFORMANCE and TRACK MODES, complete with lap timer and telemetry stats, as well as optional ENGINE BRAKE CONTROL and an updated SUSPENSION PRO module for the KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO.

The KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R and KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO are available in select 30 YEARS OF DUKE colourways, reminiscent of the orange scheme found on the 2005 KTM 990 SUPER DUKE. Both 2024 models will be available from January 2024 onwards, UK pricing below:

  • 2024 KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R – £17,999 OTR
  • 2024 KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R EVO – £19,599 OTR

A full range of specially developed KTM PowerParts and KTM PowerWear are available for riders to personalise their motorcycles and get themselves kitted up in READY TO RACE gear, both functional and casual.

KTM will also be giving away a brand new KTM 1390 SUPER DUKE R towards the end of the year. Entrants are encouraged to visit KTM.com to sign up for the KTM newsletter and be entered into the lucky draw.

From factory World Supersport racing, to the Isle of Man TT, earning multiple Supersport wins, and even a win at Daytona 200, the teams are focused on success.

The team has been supported by some of the biggest names in motocross, including the greatest MX rider of all time, Ricky Carmichael. He has worked with Triumph’s chassis and engine teams across the journey of scoping, prototyping, testing and development.

Ricky Carmichael said: “The TF 250-X is an incredible bike. This is the bike that we set out to build. When you talk about the chassis, the powertrain, the components – it’s the best of everything you could ever want. Royal Enfield Unveils The Shotgun 650

Royal Enfield unveils the Shotgun 650 – a custom inspired neo-retro motorcycle.

After decades of inspiring as well as being inspired by custom culture, Royal Enfield has unveiled a stunning, one-of-its-kind, custom-inspired roadster.

The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 made its global debut in Goa today, at Motoverse 2023. While the continuous production motorcycle itself will be launched early next year, the Shotgun 650 Motoverse Edition is a limited release, custom-designed colourway, only 25 of which will be available for reservation until 25th November at midnight. Available exclusively for the Motoverse community, nothing like these machines will ever be made again, making the event a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own this collectable motorcycle.

Built on Royal Enfield’s 650-Twin platform, the Shotgun 650 Motoverse Edition is a tribute to the culture of customisation. It pays homage to its precursor, the SG650 Concept, with its neo-destopian design and celebrates the possibilities offered by Royal Enfield motorcycles as a canvas for the most creative minds in motorcycling.

Speaking about the launch of this new motorcycle, Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director of Eicher Motors Ltd., said, “The Shotgun 650 is a drop-dead gorgeous, custom-inspired motorcycle that brings together more than a century of Royal Enfield’s pure motorcycling DNA with the renegade spirit of custom culture. The objective was to build this modular, shape-shifting machine that is almost like a mutant disguised as a motorcycle. Powered by our award-winning 650-Twin platform, and an absolute delight to ride on straights and the twisties, the Shotgun 650 is our attempt to bring niche and newer categories of motorcycles to growing enthusiasts of self-expression across the world”

The Motoverse edition of the Shotgun 650 takes inspiration from the motorcycles of the future. Its custom- designed, hand-painted body features a carefully crafted gradient and neon detailing that no factory can produce. Each of these 25 motorcycles have been customised over months, making it unlike any other Royal Enfield or unlike any other motorcycle on the road today.

Speaking about the inspiration and the design of the motorcycle, Mark Wells, Chief of Design at Royal Enfield, said, “Designing the Shotgun 650 Motoverse Edition was an exhilarating journey for the design team into the future of Royal Enfield. After we had shown the SG650 Concept at EICMA in 2021, it gathered huge interest from international custom builders and got heads turning, so much so that we decided to build it as a production motorcycle. The Shotgun 650 Motoverse Edition is built by the same team that designed the Concept and is therefore remarkably close to the concept – much more so than is usually possible. It retains the cast aluminium nascelle, chopped fenders, angular bodywork and that confident, aggressive stance. At the heart of this motorcycle is the simplicity of its form and the pure metal composition that is testament to its inspiration – custom culture. The Shotgun 650 offers a perfect canvas for experienced builders as well as for someone who is just starting on their journey of customization.”

The Shotgun 650 takes Royal Enfield’s legacy of customization further by offering a canvas that allows motorcyclists to make a statement without sacrificing the benefits of Royal Enfield’s dedicated after-sales service ecosystem. Conceived as a revolutionary neo-retro roadster, the intent of the Shotgun 650 was to break free from historical constraints while preserving the brand’s core DNA. The motorcycle represents a harmonious blend of tradition and progress, with meticulously made aluminium parts that seamlessly integrate classic aesthetics with modern graphics. Featuring a revolutionary modular design, the Shotgun 650 is capable of transforming from a classic single-seater to a dual-seater to a weekend tourer in minutes, inviting riders to embark on a journey of personalization like never before. Its tight proportions and low-slung silhouette allow for planted handling with optimum ergonomics.

The tank, closely matching that of the SG650 concept, represents a new direction while respecting Royal Enfield’s historical forms, as do the unique ten spoke wheel rims with integrated ABS. The front suspension features upside down forks and an integrated aluminium top yoke with low-rise extra-wide handlebars. At the rear, twin shocks are mounted to the iconic chassis loop, with a hand-stitched black leather floating solo seat that showcases contemporary craftsmanship with a nod to the past. The Shotgun 650 is built on the robust 650cc platform, celebrated for its impressive performance and adaptability. The engine, a blacked-out 650-Twin with all new gloss black engine covers, is paired with a custom exhaust system that heralds the aesthetics of the future, while simultaneously harking back to the joy of an aural experience that has long been the hallmark of Royal Enfield. The motorcycle comes preloaded with bespoke Royal Enfield Genuine motorcycle accessories such as bar end mirrors and LED black indicators. In addition to this, the limited edition motorcycle will be offered with extended warranty.

The exclusive, limited production Shotgun 650 Motoverse Edition embodies the spirit of originality and self- expression, guaranteeing its owners access to an exclusive club that owns a unique piece of the brand’s heritage. The always-on production motorcycle will be launched early next year across the world, starting with Europe and India.

The new Langen LightSpeed steals the show at Motorcycle Live

Langen Technology Limited (Langen), one of the leading automotive engineering and development companies, specialising in hand built, limited production motorcycles, unveiled its new LightSpeed at Motorcycle Live at the NEC Birmingham this week.

The stunning new hypersport bike from Langen, Britain’s most exciting motorcycle manufacturer, was a big hit with visitors to this year’s show. In a specially created presentation experience inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama the assembled media and visitors were treated to an up close and personal view of the LightSpeed. A number of customer curated 2Strokes were also on display along with a chance to speak with Langen founder Christofer Ratcliffe and his team about the finer details of the machines and how the LightSpeed came into being.

The unique, class leading machine boasting a power to weight ratio of 1,000 bhp per tonne not only attracted the crowds but also had some reaching for their wallets to secure a build slot and VIN number, as only 185 of the Launch specification motorcycle will be available – each build individually commissioned for its owner. Whilst targeted for registration on UK roads, the LightSpeed is appealing to a global audience of enthusiasts and collectors of special automotive machines, with reservations being made from around the world.

Christofer Ratcliffe Founder and CEO of Langen comments: “I am overwhelmed with the response to the LightSpeed, in a show full of ‘off the peg’ bikes, to be able to offer something truly unique to our discerning customers with a range of personal options to make each LightSpeed as individual as the customer, it has made all the hard work over the last 12 months’ worth while. I can’t wait to see this pre-production prototype develop further as we move towards delivering the first builds to customers at the start of 2025”.

The new BMW R 12 nineT and R 12

The new BMW R 12 nineT and R 12: a classic roadster for dynamic riding on country roads and a classic cruiser for cool, relaxed biking.
With the R nineT, BMW Motorrad presented more than just a classic-style roadster in 2013.  From the very beginning it combined classic motorcycle design and modern technology with high craftsmanship and diverse customization options. Shortly afterwards, the R nineT was enriched with attractive derivatives, giving rise to a whole model family for the BMW Motorrad Heritage world.

That is why, for the new BMW R 12 nineT, the guiding principle during development was “The Spirit of nineT”, with the goal of seamlessly following in the footsteps of the successful R nineT and carrying forward its archetypal look, timelessness, and high customization qualities. While the new R 12 nineT as a classic roadster aims to make a stylish impression in urban environments as well as provide dynamic riding fun on winding country roads, the new BMW R 12 comes under the motto “The Spirit of Easy” – perfectly embodying a classic cruiser for cool and relaxed biking.

Great freedom of choice when it comes to design, model diversity and customizing.
The new BMW R 12 nineT and R 12 are classic roadsters and cruisers that combine the authentic and beefy character of the boxer engine and the design language of traditional motorcycle eras with innovative technology and a modular concept that offers the rider maximum customization options. Reduction to the essentials and attention to detail were key priorities in the development of the design, resulting in a strong emotional appeal.

Authentic and beefy boxer engine featuring redesigned airbox and twin-flow rear silencer.
For the past 100 years, the two-cylinder boxer engine and the use of a propeller shaft drive have been synonymous with BMW motorcycles. In line with this legacy, the new BMW R 12 nineT and R 12 models, presented in the “100 Years of BMW Motorrad” anniversary year, further emphasise this distinctive powertrain configuration, following the recent unveiling of the new BMW R 1300 GS. The air/oil-cooled boxer engine with a capacity of 1,170 cc already familiar from numerous BMW Motorrad models, delivers
80 kW (109 hp) at 7,000 rpm in the R 12 nineT and 70 kW (95 hp) at 6,500 rpm in the
R 12. As part of the complete redesign of the chassis, the new R 12 models also feature a new airbox. This is now fully integrated under the seat. The left-mounted “Twin Pipe” exhaust system with two rear silencers with reverse cone design caters to both the desire for a classically designed, sporty roadster and a cruiser.

New, one-piece tubular bridge steel spaceframe with bolted-on rear frame.
The centrepiece of the new BMW R 12 models is the completely newly developed tubular bridge steel spaceframe. This frame differs from the previous R nineT series, which had a front and rear main frame. As a result, the new frame eliminates the need for previous fastenings, reducing weight and giving the new R 12 models a cleaner and more classic appearance. The rear frame, also made of tubular steel, is bolted to the main frame.

New classic round instruments as well as USB-C and 12 V socket as standard equipment. Digital display available as optional equipment ex works.
The new R 12 nineT comes equipped with two analogue round instruments for speed and rpms, a USB-C port on the left side, and a 12V socket on the right side for the onboard network. The round instruments continue to support customization by communicating via a LIN-Bus and separating the control and display units. The standard instrumentation for the new R 12 is limited to the speedometer, but the rev counter can be retrofitted with genuine BMW Motorcycle accessories.

The new R 12 nineT and R 12 are available as a roadster and cruiser, each offering a classic design and optimal ergonomics.
On the the R 12 nineT the aluminium tank with brushed and clear-coated side panels, the seat, and the tail-hump create a rising, dynamic line. The improved ergonomics compared to its predecessor are mainly due to the 30 mm shorter and narrower fuel tank in the rear area.  The rider is closer to the handlebars, benefits from improved knee contact, and has a more front-oriented seating position on the motorcycle overall.

On the new BMW R 12, the steel tank, reminiscent of the so-called “Toaster Tanks” of the 1970s BMW /5 models, emphasises the typical design language of a cruiser in a classic teardrop shape and forms a descending line in combination with the standard solo seat and the curved, low-mounted rear wheel cover. The large 19-inch front wheel and the small 16-inch rear wheel complement this harmoniously. The classic cruiser design is also reflected in the relaxed seating position with low seat height and wide handlebars.

Three attractive paintwork options for making stylish appearances as Classic Roadster and Classic Cruiser.
Each bike, the BMW R 12 nineT and R 12, comes in three attractive colour options.

R 12 nineT: Base paint finish Blackstorm metallic.
Surcharge colour San Remo Green metallic.
Option 719 “Aluminium” in brushed aluminium / Night Black solid paint.

R 12:           Base paint finish Blackstorm metallic.
Surcharge colour Aventurine Red metallic.

Two new bags complete the Canyon range

GIVI launches GRT723 and GRT724, the perfect pair for adventurous bikers.

With the aim of meeting all the needs of trail/adventure enthusiasts, GIVI, the transalpine brand of motorbike and motorcyclist equipment, has created the Canyon range. To achieve this, it’s opted for high quality materials and a meticulously studied design to ensure intense and prolonged use. This year, the brand has added two new additions to this family, the GRT723 with a Monokey attachment system, and the GRT724 cargo bag with double roll-top closure.

GIVI has been creating products that make life easier for all motorcyclists for 45 years, thanks to a team made up of two-wheel enthusiasts who actively listen to its users. This has resulted in different ranges adapted to the different trends of the sector. On this occasion, it’s expanded its range that is most suited to the needs of off-road riders, the Canyon, which now has 13 different bags, one model for each type of load.

GRT723
What characterises this new GIVI bag is that it’s equipped with a semi-rigid base that supports the MONOKEY attachment system, allowing it to occupy the place that usually corresponds to the hard top case. It has a roll-top closure and its internal capacity can reach up to 40 litres. At the top, there is a flap with a net pocket and the classic attachment points for extra loads established by the M.O.L.L.E. system. At the ends there are several straps for attaching additional loads. On the inside, it’s equipped with a waterproof, removable, fluorescent yellow bag with roll-top closure. From an aesthetic point of view, it stands out for its compactness and rectangular shape. Once unhooked from the bike, it can be carried as a shoulder bag and by means of a handle. Available at £278.00 RRP (inc. VAT).

GRT724
The GRT724 is a 12-litre heat-sealed saddle bag that can be attached to an aluminium side case(straps included) and even to the CANYON BASE GRT721. It can also be combined with the GRT723. It’s designed with a double roll-top closure and also includes Cam buckle Duraflex® fastening straps. Two side handles and a shoulder strap make it easy to carry. Available at £101.50 RRP (inc. VAT).

2024 Arai Limited Edition IOM TT Design Unveiling

The Isle of Man TT Races just keeps getting better, and bigger every year. The spectacular celebration of motorcycling, raced over 37.73 miles of real roads, draws competitors and fans from around the world.

It’s also an event that for decades has run through Arai’s DNA. Many of the TT racers wear Arai for the performance, protection and comfort at high speeds that the brand’s helmets offer, while we put great effort into supporting all Arai wearers in the Isle with service and spares.

The recently renewed style of the Isle of Man TT Races has proven to be great inspiration for Aldo Drudi’s stunning new design, which draws on the key colourways with sleek racing stripes. As ever, the key components always present are the Triskelion (three legs of man) unified by a bold ‘double’ TT logo on the sides, subtle chequered flag motif and Ellan Vannin (Isle of Man in Manx) neatly placed on the bottom.

Underneath this spectacular new design, we always try to find something to improve. It’s our Priority for Protection: a relentless pursuit for more gains in protection in addition to meeting required safety standards. That is why we continue to evolve head protection by making steadfast improvements wherever possible, building on our unbroken seven decades of foundation in our three-generation family company. We do this with a rounder, stronger and smoother outer shell that excels in Glancing Off (impact energy management) at the core of every Arai helmet. After all, what we are seeking to protect is priceless.

Akihito Arai, Arai Helmet (Europe) B.V. Managing Director:
“Wow. This is always a special moment for all of us at Arai Helmet and the 2024 RX-7V Limited Edition EVO IoM TT is absolutely amazing. Drudi Performance has excelled and created something so fresh, yet with all the elements of the design that fans and collectors expect. We had no idea when we started 15 years ago how important every year’s special TT helmet would become to so many people. All I can say now is – roll on next year’s TT!”

Historic 1975 Norvin among hundreds of classic two-wheelers auctioned

Historic 1975 Norvin among hundreds of classic two-wheelers auctioned at the National Motorcycle Museum.

H&H Classics has successfully sold 172 classic scooters and motorcycles (and counting) worth a combined £1 million in its final two-wheeler sale of 2023 at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull.

A rare 1975 Norvin stole the show, hammering away for £37,000.

A historic 1975 Norvin, which was featured and tested in the April 2018 issue of Classic Bike Guide, was one of the auction’s showstoppers and the day’s highest seller, achieving a final sale price of £37,000. Not to be outdone, the 1972 Suzuki GT750 J, which was entered into the sale by TV producer and presenter Henry Cole, with its iconic water-cooled engine, made waves by selling for £16,100, soaring past its £9,000 estimate.

Another highlight, a 1937 Rudge Ulster, distinguished by its performance in the Tourist Trophy races, fetched £10,580, significantly above its £6,000 pre-sale estimate.

Mike Davis, senior motorcycle specialist at H&H Classics, said: “Our latest sale at the National Motorcycle Museum has been a huge success with a great turnout. The fantastic bids, especially for the Norvin and Suzuki GT750 J, reflect the ongoing passion, enthusiasm and dedication of classic motorcycle aficionados.

A 1967 Vespa (Douglas) SS90 Super Sprint secured a cool £33,350.

“As we conclude our 2023 series of motorcycle and scooter auctions, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to all our vendors and bidders and we look forward to announcing our 2024 sale dates soon.”

Other notable results include a 1967 Vespa (Douglas) SS90 Super Sprint, which sold for £33,350 and a 1977 Triumph Bonneville Silver Jubilee, commemorating the Queen’s 25th anniversary on the throne, that fetched £16,100.

British engineering marvels continued to be in high demand with a 1970 BSA Rocket 3, which propelled to £7,820, and a 1954 BSA Gold Star, offered without reserve, fetching £7,590.

Further notable sales included a 1972 Honda CB500K, which doubled its pre-sale estimate with a final sale price of £5,060, and a c.1963 Greeves Silverstone, which raced to £4,830. Rounding out the auction’s highlights was a 1970s Triumph Drag Bike which achieved £4,600, tripling its £1,500 estimate.

H&H Classics’ preparations are now in full swing for its final classic, collector, and performance car auction of the year at The Pavilion Gardens, Buxton, on the 29 November 2023. To see the full list of lots available in the auction, visit www.handh.co.uk.

The New Langen LightSpeed Breaks Cover at Motorcycle Live

Langen Technology Limited (Langen), one of the leading automotive engineering and development companies, specialising in hand built, limited production motorcycles, will be proudly presenting their new Langen LightSpeed 1200 (LS-12) at Motorcycle Live 2023 at the National Exhibition Centre Birmingham between the 18th and 26th of November 2023.

Following the huge success of their first production motorcycle – The Two Stroke, Langen’s latest offering continues to demonstrate the company’s ability to build achingly beautiful, high- performance motorcycles using the very best components, fuelled by the team’s passion to combine innovation with emotion.

The LightSpeed is a truly awesome motorcycle with a power to weight ratio of 1,000hp per tonne, built into a head turning street bike – the likes of which have never been seen before.

The machine incorporates carbon fibre bodywork wrapped round a high tensile steel tubular space frame, Ohlins front forks and rear shock absorbers and Hel performance callipers grabbing 320mm twin floating front discs.

The beating heart of the LightSpeed is a liquid-cooled, transverse 72-degree V-Twin, Rotax engine bred on the racetrack. Manufactured by Buell Motorcycles and developed by Langen to deliver 185hp @ 10,600 RPM at the crank.

The UK launch edition will be limited to just 185 units homologated for the UK and as with the Two Stroke, will offer customers a range of bespoke options including paintwork, a choice of handlebars, wheels, and other unique finishing touches. Build slots can be reserved from today with delivery expected in early 2025.

Worldwide type approved models will be available in limited numbers from 2026.

Langen HQ have reported that some existing Two Stroke customers have already placed deposits ‘off plan’ for the Lightspeed without even seeing the bike.

Christofer Ratcliffe Founder and CEO of Langen comments: At Langen we believe that “cars move the body, yet motorcycles move the soul” – it demonstrates the intangible and unmatched human experience of riding and owning a Langen. When you throw a leg over the LightSpeed you soon realise that it’s not just another motorcycle but a heart-pounding, soul-stirring symphony of power and style.
