Druck Pressure Sensor Technology Provides Hawk Racing with Competitive Edge Ahead

Druck Pressure Sensor Technology Provides Hawk Racing with Competitive Edge Ahead of Local Donington British Superbike Round.

As the 2023 Bennetts British Superbike Championship gears up for Donington Park, Hawk Racing is hoping to build on positives from the season so far, gaining a competitive edge thanks to sensor technology from partner Druck, a Baker Hughes business.

Druck engineers joined the Hawk Racing team and scrutinized data from the Oulton Park round with riders Josh Owens and Charlie Nesbitt, during a session held at Druck’s Leicestershire HQ this week (16 May 2023).

The duo each race onboard Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SPs this season, which are equipped with Druck’s high quality PMP4300 and PMP4400 pressure sensors, measuring front and rear brakes, fuel, air, oil pressures. These provide best-in-class accuracy and reliability – and help pinpoint gains that can be made.

Prior to the Round 3 assault at Donington Park, an analytical review of the Round 2 sensor data was led by Druck senior electronics engineer, Neil Sands, who also supports Hawk Racing as a data engineer. In conjunction with rider feedback and following detailed analysis of the suspension position and the front/rear brake pressure, the team has identified adjustments that will further optimize the bike and rider performance.

These insights and others will guide the Hawk team and help deliver some marginal gains and a competitive advantage as they prepare for Donington, which is the local race for the Mallory Park-based family run team.

“This is our 25th year in racing,” said Steve Hicken, owner of Hawk Racing, “making us the longest established team in British Superbikes – and we want this season to be one to remember. Adopting world-leading sensor technology from Druck, alongside our new Honda machinery and two talented riders, we believe we can make a big impact. With the data we now have access to from Druck, combined with GPS data, wheel speed and other intelligence, we can take decisions round-by-round and tweak our approach. We believe this will set us in good stead for the series and help us see off some strong competition.”

The Druck sensors can perform at temperatures from -20 to 175 Degrees Celsius, and withstand the extreme vibration and shock associated with professional motorsport.

“With a 50-year legacy in pressure measurement, we’re proud that our unrivalled pressure measurement technology is providing Hawk with a competitive advantage and helping them improve performance,” said Jonny MacGregor, Global Engineering Leader at Druck, who is also a GT (Gran Tourer) racing driver in the Britcar British Endurance Championship.  “We’re one of the few companies worldwide manufacturing piezo-resistive high quality motorsport sensors from silicon wafers, into a finished product that can withstand the punishing environment of top tier motorsport. Our lightweight sensors provide accuracy and reliability and deliver race teams marginal gains, which on the circuit are critical.

“We hope this collaboration, of two regional firms at the forefront of this industry, will deliver a best-ever season for Hawk Racing on the British Superbike circuit.”

During the visit, the Hawk Racing team and other guests went behind-the-scenes at Druck’s UK production facility, home to almost 700 employees, where around 100 individual processes are completed as part of the assembly of a high-performance pressure sensor.

Since 1990, Druck products have been successfully applied across the motorsport sector, with its products chosen by teams from all leading motorsport series.

Druck is a global leader for pressure measurement supporting customers in more than 70 countries.  Its technology is trusted by customers in critical applications across many industries including aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, oil and gas, power generation, meteorology and hydrology.

Still Unbeatable, Still Undeniable: Rule The Track With The 2024 KTM 450 SMR

The KTM 450 SMR is the bar of reference for Supermoto. It is the only choice for riders seeking an escape from the limits of the road, for dirt bikers that want to feel an exhilarating drift on the tarmac, for those that want the ideal ‘training tool’ or Supermoto racers craving to lead the pack.

Austria’s own Lukas Höllbacher took his KTM 450 SMR to the 2022 AMA Supermoto title and fought until the last moments for the FIM World Championship. Höllbacher’s track feats and feedback rolled into the serial production version of KTM’s latest and best definition of the ultimate Supermoto racer. In 2023 he will again be on the attack with the 2024 KTM 450 SMR and riders can now get their hands on the same model. The 2024 incarnation has been given a fresh new splash of color using in-mold technology for the bodywork. KTM orange, white and black create an attractive blur at speed but there is also the distinctive streak of purple, inspired by 1990 KTM bikes barreling around international racetracks.

Elsewhere, here is what makes the SMR package so competitive

Surge forwards with the 450 cc SOHC engine that fires out 63 hp, now with longer service intervals. At less than 27 kg, the powerplant is a masterpiece of power-to-weight engineering. A 44 mm Keihin throttle body brings in the fun and gauges the right response, while the SUTER slipper clutch adds another important way to modulate lap-time speed.

Ultimate handling thanks to centralisation of the motor and chassis within the hydro-formed, laser-cut and robot-welded frame. The compact construction has just the right amount of longitudinal rigidity and flex to provide superb feedback, energy absorption and straight-line stability. The reinforced aluminum subframe weighs in at 1.815 kg and was generated from computational dynamic studies: sensitivity, robustness and reliability were the parameters. The hollow, die-cast aluminum swingarm is another remarkable contributor to the 2024 KTM 450 SMR’s experience along with a NEKEN aluminum handlebar and CNC machined triple clamps, which are rubber damped to reduce vibration, to put every single corner of the racetrack right into the rider’s hands.

Pivot on a dime with dependable suspension – 48 mm WP XACT split front fork with AER technology for progressive and consistent damping, especially in the last 40 mm of travel. Count on quick access click adjusters for compression and rebound. The WP XACT shock is small, light, and fixed with the frame geometry for better ground clearance of the linkage system. The XACT unit is one of the most advanced pieces of hardware to emerge from the WP Suspension factory lines. Like the fork, the shock’s compression and rebound can be configured without the need for tools.

Easy life for the racer thanks to specialist features such as the electric start, the tool-less air filter for simple replacement, a performance-designed airbox, a flat and high seat with a high-grip cover, to accommodate ultimate control at any angle, and a large polythene 7.2 litre fuel tank, meaning more miles at speed. Carefully engineered footpegs with a larger surface area and revised integration into the frame; they are optimised for tarmac and the varying conditions of the terrain.

Run to the limit of the corners with heavy-duty Brembo brakes. The 4-piston radial caliper will clamp the 310 mm front disc at the smallest stroke of the lever while a single piston unit grabs the 220 mm rear disc to set off those time-saving drifts.

Maneuver the 2024 KTM 450 SMR how you want thanks to the acute ‘triangle’ ergonomics that focus on centralisation, putting the rider in the ideal attack position. Front end control and rear end confidence is the default ‘setting’ for the 2024 KTM 450 SMR, thanks to the various contact points from the carefully designed bodywork.

Own the track with a raft of special race-orientated details such as two selectable engine maps, launch control, traction control and Quickshifter, all administered by a 44 mm Keihin engine management system. LED hour meters, Fuel Injection status and a Roll Over Sensor (ROS) are included. The ROS detects the position of the bike in the event of a crash and automatically kills the engine for improved safety.

Tyre tech that won’t let you down. Metzeler Racetec SM K1 Supermoto rubber heats up quickly and boasts a large performance scale in terms of temperature range and different states of asphalt. The tyres are fitted to lightweight, high-strength ALPINA alloy rims with CNC machined hubs.

Open your mind. The 2024 KTM 450 SMR invites riders to eat the chrono and question their own capabilities. READY TO RACE has rarely been more acutely applied to any KTM model. This year there won’t be any excuses.

2024 KTM 450 SMR Technical Highlights

// Purposeful orange, black, white and purple race trim livery with black coated frame and menacing black wheels
// 63 hp SOHC engine weighing less than 27 kg and prioritising centralisation thanks to altered positioning in the frame. Engine position equates to easy servicing
// Two engine map options, launch control, traction control and Quickshifter as well as SUTER slipper clutch for maximum control
// Compact, light and innovative chassis for the best feeling, traction and handling
// First class WP XACT fork with AER technology and XACT shock: small, condensed and fully adjustable hardware to quickly refine track set-up
// High-quality Brembo brakes with 4-piston radially mounted caliper and 310 mm front and 220 mm rear discs for potent stopping power
// READY TO RACE details for a pure track-based machine: 16.5/17” wheels, Metzeler tyres, ODI lock-on grips, tool-less air filter access, light and optimised footpegs
// Unbeatable ergonomics that place all the stability and poise of the 2024 KTM 450 SMR at the rider’s fingertips for both front end grip and rear end confidence

The 2024 KTM 450 SMR will be sliding into Authorised KTM dealer showrooms from May 2023, priced at £11,249.00.

Silverstone Motorcycle sale tops £600,000

Silverstone Motorcycle sale tops £600,000 with 74% sold Along with A New UK Auction record for a Kawasaki GPZ1000RX at the Devitt MCN Festival of motorcycling May 14th.

Lot 338 Kawasaki GPZ1000RX sold for £6,862, doubling its auction estimate.
The Silverstone Auction sale at Peterborough this weekend saw some amazing results on some fabulous bikes.

Mark Bryan of Silverstone Motorcycle Department, said of the sale results: “The eclectic mix of modern, vintage and competition bikes helped draw a big crowd on sale day which resulted in some great results. There is a continuing trend towards more modern classics performing well at auction”

In the very well attended show and auction some 60% of sales were in the room, 14% on the telephone and the remainder online.
Lot 338 1987 Kawasaki GPZ1000RX made £6,862, double its estimate. Built as the replacement for the GPZ900R but only produced for three years before being succeeded by the all-conquering ZZ-R1100 in 1990.

This UK-registered from new example had a mere 7,700 miles and has had the same owner since 1988 with service history and old MOTs available. Fabulous condition, almost ‘showroom fresh’.

Lot 372 sold for £33,314, well over its lower estimate
The fabulous Confederate Hellcat was a dramatically presented, over-engineered motorcycle with the power and style to offer a truly one-off riding experience. Less than ten of these machines were hand-built in Alabama in 2014. This example was one of two to reach the UK.

Designed by Pierre Terblanche whose name is on several popular Ducati models including the 888 and Supermono. The ‘no expense spared’ build of this bike utilised only custom components (full carbon wheelset with a 240 Metzler rear tyre and CNC’d billet aluminium components throughout).

Other hardware includes 4-pot Beringher callipers and Marzocchi forks. The 121bhp, 2,163cc V-twin is held within an aircraft-grade 6061 aluminium crankcase mated to a drag-racing, 5-speed transmission.

The odometer displayed just 100 miles and it was owned and kept as a display piece for the last year and only used on occasion. The bike was presented as ready-to-go for its next owner.

1982 Ex-Donny Robinson Ulster GP-winning Spondon Rotax 250cc Race Bike. Guide Price: £4,000 – £6,000 sold for £7,312
The 1982 Spondon Rotax 250cc race bike sold for £7,312, a notable price for this bike. This fabulous bike was from the collection of the late Liam Quinn, the Ulster GP winner, owned at the time by Mal Carter from Pharaoh Racing and loaned to Donny, who went on to take first place in the Ulster GP.

2023 Honda EM1 e

New ModelHonda’s first EV for young European riders is here. The EM1 e: is equipped with a swappable Honda Mobile Power Pack e:, delivering real convenience, and fun, emission-free urban transport. An in-wheel electric motor supplies the drive; usable range is 41.3km and top speed is 45.0km/h. Specification includes digital instrument display, underseat storage space, USB socket, pillion footpegs and rear carrier.

23YM HONDA EM1e Location
  1. Introduction

The EM1 e: is Honda’s first two-wheeled electric vehicle for customers in Europe, following the announcement in September 2022 of the company’s plans to introduce 10 or more electric two wheelers globally by 2025. It is also a notable first step towards meeting Honda’s stated aim of carbon neutrality for all its motorcycle line-ups during the 2040s.

The ‘EM’ stands for Electric Moped, and the model is aimed squarely at a young demographic looking for easy, fun, emission-free urban transport. It is compact, flat-floored, with smooth styling that marks out its difference and unique identity within the Honda range.

Perfect for short hops around town and making journeys to work or college efficient, quiet and emission-free, the EM1 e: syncs neatly with modern expectations for urban mobility.

And, as growing local legislation around parking in cities across Europe restricts the use of traditional Internal Combustion Engines (ICE), quite naturally the EV market is growing. Honda is now entering this space with a fresh, high-quality choice for both young riders and short-range commuters alike.

For a typical student, who might do a 30km total ‘lap’ of the city during an average day, the EM1 e: is a compelling proposition: simple to ride and to handle, quiet, environmentally- friendly transport.

And the first of many.

23YM HONDA EM1 e:
  1. Model Overview

Compact, easy to use and offering clean mobility with fresh new styling, most of the EM1 e: is conventional: steel underbone frame, telescopic forks, twin shock absorbers and disc front/drum rear braking are classic moped features.

What’s really new are the electric in-wheel motor and Honda’s own Honda Mobile Power Pack e:, which can be removed for easy recharging at home using the bespoke charging unit.

The EM1 e: is fully equipped with digital dash, high quality switch gear, long floor area, underseat storage space and USB charging socket. It also features pillion footpegs, rear carrier and side stand for speedy parking.

Usable range is 41.3km with a top speed of 45.0km/h.

Also new is the sales method. To ensure customers do not have to take responsibility for the disposal or recycling of the Honda Mobile Power Pack e:, the EM1 e: together with the Honda Mobile Power Pack e: and charger will be available based on a lease, rental or subscription scheme, depending on the country. This will give customers complete peace of mind throughout the life of the EM1 e: regarding both the continued performance of the Honda Mobile Power Pack e:, and its eventual disposal.

The 2023 (23YM) EM1 e: will be available in three contemporary colour options:

    • Pearl Sunbeam White
    • Digital Silver Metallic
    • Matte Ballistic Black Metallic

      23YM HONDA EM1 e:

  1. Key Features

3.1 Battery & Charger

  • Honda durability ensures over 2,500 charges are possible
  • 160 minutes to charge from 25% to 75%
  • 50V Honda Mobile Power Pack e: swappable lithium-ion battery pack
  • 270W air-cooled charger for domestic use

The EM1 e: is powered by the 50V Honda Mobile Power Pack e:, developed in-house by Honda with the same relentless focus on durability, reliability and quality for which its internal combustion engines have long been known.

A single charge will offer a usable riding range of 41.3km or approximately 48.0km in ECON mode under Honda’s internal test conditions (30km in WMTC Class 1 testing conditions) and the Honda Mobile Power Pack e: is designed to withstand different temperatures, humidity levels, impacts and vibrations.

As its name suggests, the Honda Mobile Power Pack e: is a swappable battery that can be easily removed from the EM1 e: for charging in the comfort of home. Operation is simple: the charger, complete with air-cooling fan, draws from a single phase AC100-240V domestic source and produces 270W maximum. Weight of the charger is 5.3kg and LED indicators show charging status in 4 segments. The Honda Mobile Power Pack e: itself weighs approximately 10kg and can be easily carried and replaced thanks to an easy-to-hold handle.

From zero to maximum, charging time is approximately 6 hours; from 25% to 75%, only 2.7 hours (160 minutes) are needed. Honda’s famed durability means that the Honda Mobile Power Pack e: can be charged over 2,500 times (internal testing conditions**).

The in-wheel motor is rated at 0.58kW output and produces 1.7kW at peak. In ECON mode, output is set at 0.86kW. Top speed is 45km/h and the EM1 e: can climb a 10° angle with a weight of 75kg on board. ECON mode softens throttle operation and reduces top speed, extending usable range to approximately 48.0km.

23YM HONDA EM1 e:

3.2 Styling & Equipment

  • Digital instrument display and USB Type-A charging socket
  • 3L underseat storage
  • Rear carrier and pillion footpegs

Deliberately shaped to stand apart from its ICE siblings, the EM1 e: is slim and compact, blending a mixture of smooth, organic curves up front with a more angular, purposeful rear section.

A 12V battery powers the scooter’s systems and all lighting is LED. A simple digital dash displays all the information that matters concisely, including remaining battery charge percentage.

There’s 3.3L of storage space under the seat, and an inner pocket large enough to store a 500ml PET water bottle can be found on the left side of the fairing front; on the right a USB socket for smartphone charging is a useful feature. There’s also a handy hook to hang a bag from, and grab rails for the pillion passenger.

A rear carrier is also fitted as standard while the pillion footpegs fold neatly into the bodywork when not in use.

A useful 35L top box and rear carrier will be available as an optional accessory.

3.3 Chassis

  • Steel underbone frame, telescopic front forks and twin rear shocks
  • 740mm seat height, 95kg weight including battery
  • Front hydraulic disc and rear drum, linked by CBS (Combined Braking System)

While a lot about the EM1 e: is new, its chassis is more familiar and all at once effective, reassuring, lightweight and tough with easy, confident handling the goal. It’s supremely compact, just 1,860mm in length with a very manageable 740mm seat height. Ground clearance is a healthy 135mm and maintenance weight is just 95kg including battery.

The frame is a durable steel underbone design; 31mm telescopic forks are matched to twin rear shock absorbers equipped with double tube dampers. Rake and trail are set at 27°/77mm against wheelbase of 1,300mm.

Tyres are sized 90/90-12 front and 100/90-10 rear. The front wheel is cast aluminium, the rear an aluminium/steel composite design. The brakes – 190mm/single-piston caliper disc front and 110mm drum rear – are linked by Combined Brake System (CBS) for smooth stopping control. When the rear brake is activated, CBS distributes braking power to the front caliper.

BMW Motorrad presents the new R 12 nineT

The new R 12 nineT is being presented for the “100 years of BMW Motorrad” anniversary and is thus the successor to the R nineT, which was launched exactly ten years ago on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of BMW Motorrad.

The new BMW R 12 nineT continues 100 years of BMW Motorrad fascination and tradition seamlessly.

Like the BMW R nineT in 2013, the new BMW R 12 nineT is a purist, powerful classic roadster which offers a wealth of conceptual options for almost unlimited customizing and personal individualisation.

Dr. Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad: “The R nineT and its customising concept established the new Heritage experience for BMW Motorrad’s 90th birthday and has become an indispensable cornerstone of our model range. The new R 12 nineT consistently continues the successful heritage story surrounding the legendary BMW boxer engines with an even more classic, reduced design language, even greater degrees of freedom when it comes to customizing and, last but not least, new and innovative technology.”

BMW R 12 nineT

Original 1200 boxer engine with redesigned airbox and exhaust system delivers classic riding pleasure.

100 years ago, the very first BMW motorcycle – the R 32 – was already based on the flat-twin engine. The boxer’s unmistakable design, powerful acceleration, unique power delivery, hallmark sound and smooth running quickly made it a legendary synonym for BMW motorcycles. With its air/oil-cooled boxer engine, the new R 12 nineT continues this great tradition. The number 12 in the model designation refers to the engine capacity as with many models in the history of BMW Motorrad – such as the current R 18.

BMW R 12 nineT

Even more classic, purist design, great attention to detail and even more customizing options.

Even more than its predecessor, the new R 12 nineT combines the beefy character of the boxer engine and the design language of traditional motorcycle eras with innovative technology and a modular concept that offers the rider a maximum of customisation options. Reduced even more to the essentials, it delivers high emotional appeal. A purist, classic look and the attention to detail were at the top of the agenda when it came to designing the bike.

Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design BMW Motorrad: “The purist design language is dominated by the clear tank/seat/rear line, in the style of the traditional /5 or the legendary R 90 S of the 70s. At first glance, the tank itself is a classic BMW boxer tank, with a typical bend in the lower edge and classic knee contact. The new R 12 NineT also features side covers in the area of the frame triangle in the authentic Roadster look – another reminiscence of BMW motorcycles of the 1970s.”

Particular attention to detail is also evident in the redesigned front mudguard, the LED main headlamp with black-surround light guide element and the two round instruments in the traditional style of days gone by. As is tradition, attractive customization options are offered as part of the the original BMW Motorrad accessory range. With customizing in mind, the new R 12 nineT also features an LED rear light unit integrated into the seat, which now makes it easy to realise a “short tail”.

BMW R 12 nineT

The highlights of the new BMW R 12 nineT:

  • Classic, purist design.
  • Workmanship with great attention to detail.
  • Air/oil-cooled 2-cylinder boxer engine.
  • Designed for customizing.
  • One-piece tubular space frame with bolted-on rear frame.
  • Classic wheel guides with high-quality upside-down telescopic forks at the front and Paralever at the rear.
  • Left-side exhaust system with double silencer and conical end pieces.
  • Radially mounted 4-piston monobloc calipers, steel braided brake lines.
  • Tailor-made, high-quality original BMW Motorrad accessory range.

BMW Motorrad will publish further information on the new BMW R 12 nineT in the second half of 2023.

The new BMW R 18 Roctane

The new BMW R 18 Roctane is the fifth member of the R 18 family – cruising and touring in custom bagger style.

The new R 18 Roctane joins the R 18, R 18 Classic, R 18 B and R 18 Transcontinental as the fifth member of the R 18 family. Once again, it harks back to the history and tradition of BMW Motorrad and combines state-of-the-art motorcycle technology with the design and charm of times gone by.

Both technically and visually, the BMW R 18 borrows from famous BMW models such as the BMW R 5 and puts the focus back on the essentials of motorcycling: Purist, no-frills technology and the boxer engine as the epicentre of riding pleasure. Classic design and clear, yet contemporary technology merge to form a fascinating overall concept. This combination delivers a unique emotional riding experience and the model is characterised by skilfully staged design language with a rear section in so-called “streamlining design”.

The most powerful BMW boxer engine of all time delivers beefy torque in black metallic matt finish and features black high-gloss covers as well as exhaust system and star counter nuts in dark chrome.

The heart of the new BMW R 18 Roctane is the familiar 2-cylinder flat twin engine, the “big boxer”. Not only thanks to its impressive looks, but also its technical specifications, the engine of the new R 18 Roctane, finished in Avus black metallic matt and with black high-gloss covers, harks back to the traditional air-cooled boxer engines that have provided an exhilarating riding experience for more than seven decades since BMW Motorrad began manufacturing motorcycles in 1923. The most powerful 2-cylinder boxer engine ever built in motorcycle series production boasts an engine capacity of 1,802 cc. It generates an output of 67 kW (91 hp) at 4,750 rpm. In the 2,000 to 4,000 rpm range, it delivers more than 150 Nm of torque at all times as well as elemental pulling power and sonorous sound. The black engine is perfectly matched by the dark chrome exhaust system and the star counter nuts.

Double-loop tube frame made of steel and rear swinging arm with enclosed axle drive in rigid-frame design.

A double-loop tubular steel frame is at the heart of the chassis of the new R 18 Roctane. Its design perpetuates the longstanding BMW Motorrad tradition of this frame type. The particularly high manufacturing quality and attention to detail are also evident in barely perceptible details such as the welded joints between steel tubes and cast or forged parts. Like the legendary BMW R 5, the rear swinging arm, which is manufactured in a similar design, encloses the rear axle drive in the same style using bolted connections.

Telescopic forks with fork tubes, cantilever suspension strut and alloy wheels sizes 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear as well as disc brakes.

The suspension elements of the new BMW R 18 Roctane deliberately feature no electronic adjustment options. Instead, telescopic forks and a directly linked central sprint strut with travel-dependent damping and adjustable spring preload ensure superior wheel guidance and responsive suspension comfort. As in the legendary BMW R 5, the fixed tubes of the telescopic forks are encased in fork sleeves. The fixed fork tube diameter is 49 mm, suspension travel is 120 mm at the front and 90 mm at the rear. The new BMW R 18 Roctance is decelerated by a twin disc brake at the front and a single disc brake at the rear in conjunction with four-piston fixed calipers. The alloy wheels give the bike a stylish look. 3.5 x 21″ at the front with 120/70 B 21 tyres as and 5.5 x 18″ at the rear with 180/55 B 18 tyres.

Well-balanced ergonomics with two-level seat, footboards, gearshift paddle and high handlebars.

The new BMW R 18 Roctance features a casual, so-called “mid-mounted footpeg” position of the footrests, entirely in keeping with the BMW Motorrad philosophy. This classic position behind the cylinders is not only typical of BMW, it also allows a relaxed and active riding position for optimally controlling the motorcycle. The R 18 Roctane features a two-level seat that tapers slimly towards the rear, with rear passenger straps, and is equipped with running boards in conjunction with a gearshift paddle. The high, black-coated handlebars ensure an upright and relaxed riding position.

Cases in the respective motorcycle paintwork and windshield as Original BMW Motorrad Accessories. Three attractive paintwork finishes.

The new R 18 Roctane is ideally equipped for laid-back cruising and touring thanks to cases painted in the colour of the bike. The cases offer 27 litres of luggage space each. For longer tours, the new R 18 Roctane can be equipped with a windshield with auxiliary headlights and suspended turn indicator lights from the Original BMW Motorrad Accessories range.

The new R 18 Roctane features black paintwork as standard. Mineral grey metallic matt and Manhattan metallic matt paint finishes are available as optional equipment.

Three riding modes as well as ASC and engine drag control are standard equipment and ensure high-level riding fun and safety.  Reversing aid, Hillstart Control and heated grips are available as optional equipment ex factory.

In order to meet individual customer needs, the new R 18 Roctane also features the three riding modes “Rain”, “Roll” and “Rock” as standard, which is unusual in this segment. The standard equipment also includes ASC (Automatic Stability Control), which ensures a high level of riding safety. In addition, the new R 18 Roctane is equipped with engine drag torque control as standard. In addition to other options, a reversing aid makes manoeuvring a comfortable affair and the Hill Start Control function makes starting off uphill easy. The heated grips, which are also available as optional equipment ex factory, keep your hands warm on cold days.

The new R 18 Roctane: The “big boxer” with rigid frame look, modern technology and authentic materials in custom bagger style. Headlight with integrated, classic-design round instrument.

The R 18 Roctane skilfully reinterprets the iconic styling of past eras in custom bagger style and many details reflect the purist design that was primarily shaped by classics such as the BMW R 5. Functional and style-defining elements such as the double-loop tube frame, the pear-drop fuel tank or the open propeller shaft drive are reminiscent of the legendary 1936 boxer. The classic body parts of the R 18 Roctane, such as the fuel tank, front and rear wheel covers or headlight housing, are also made of metal – just as befits an authentic classic. The suspension is likewise aptly reminiscent of the legendary R 5. Together with the double-sided swinging arm and a cantilever suspension strut, the rigid frame layout of the R 5 has been perfectly transferred to modern times.

Wherever the eye wanders, lovingly designed technology can be seen in every detail. This also applies to the headlight with the integrated, classically designed round instrument. The legendary BMW R 5 from 1936 and from then on almost all BMW motorcycles until the early 1970s featured this characteristic combination. The new BMW R 18 Roctane now revives this tradition – with state-of-the-art technology but contemporary design. The “BERLIN BUILT” lettering on the dial is a reference to the bike’s origin. The new R 18 Roctane is also manufactured at the BMW Motorrad plant in Berlin-Spandau.

Conversion-friendly architecture for easy customising and optimal individualisation.

Like all other R 18 family members, the new R 18 Roctane offers a very conversion-friendly architecture, which was already the focus when the basic design of the R 18 series was being conceived. In addition the visible valve covers (cylinder head covers) and the chest cover (engine housing cover) are designed in such a way that they are located outside the oil chamber, making them very easy to change.

The highlights of the new BMW R 18 Roctane:

  • Iconic style thanks to the use of modern technology and authentic materials.
  • Biggest ever BMW boxer engine with a capacity of 1,802 cc.
  • Output 67 kW (91 hp) at 4, 750 rpm, maximum torque 158 Nm at 3,000 rpm.
  • More than 150 Nm available at all times from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm.
  • Open propeller shaft drive based on the classic role model.
  • Exhaust system and star counter nuts in Dark Chrome.
  • Elaborately manufactured double loop tubular steel frame.
  • Rear swinging arm with enclosed axle drive in rigid-frame design.
  • Telescopic forks with sleeves and cantilever suspension strut featuring travel-dependent damping.
  • Well-balanced ergonomics with high handlebars ensure relaxed riding and optimum control.
  • Front and rear disc brakes and cast alloy wheels, 21-inch at front and 18-inch at rear.
  • Side covers with emblem.
  • Headlight housing with integrated classic round instrument.
  • State-of-the-art LED lighting technology, classically interpreted.
  • Adaptive headlight for even better illumination of the road when cornering as optional equipment ex-factory.
  • Keyless Ride for convenient activation pf functions remotely (ignition on/off).
  • Manual steering lock (with key): Locking on the righ-hand side of the handlebar tube:
  • Cases locked manually (with key).
  • Three riding modes as well as ASC and engine drag control as standard.
  • Reversing aid for convenient manoeuvring and Hill Start Control for easy hill starts as optional equipment ex factory.

The second edition of #WeRideAsOne was successfully held on Saturday 6 May; the widespread global event organized by Ducati, which on the same day allows enthusiasts from all over the world to celebrate together their passion for two wheels and for the Bologna-based brand.

Also this year, 334 Ducati dealerships, together with 159 international Ducati Official Clubs spread across all five continents, created and put together the event’s winning formula, personalising each route and transforming their localities into exclusive settings for the day.

The second edition of #WeRideAsOne involved 15,000 Ducatisti from more than 50 countries all over the world  on the saddle of their Ducati and Scrambler Ducati bikes. The heart of the event was the parade which again this year saw the Red bikes of Borgo Panigale animate and colour the most evocative streets of the main cities: Paris, New York, Cologne, Puebla, Mumbai, Brussels, Ningbo, Pretoria, Tel Aviv, Bogotá, Berlin are just some of the places that provided this moment of true entertainment.

Francesco Milicia, VP Global Sales and After Sales Ducati: “#WeRideAsOne is an event that well represents Ducati and its mission to create unforgettable experiences for all enthusiasts. On occasions like these, there is an incredible atmosphere that conveys a sense of belonging to one big family comprising all Ducatisti, Ducati Official Clubs, dealerships and Company employees. Seeing thousands of Ducati motorcycles parading together through major cities around the world is a unique emotion that fills us with pride. I had the pleasure of riding through the beautiful streets of Rome in the company of the MotoGP rider Fabio Di Giannantonio, together with the colleagues of Ducati Roma, who celebrated 10 years in business, and a lot of enthusiasts.”

In London, the procession headed out from the Ducati store through the heart of London passing iconic landmarks including Trafalgar Square, Westminster Bridge, Big Ben and the London Eye, crossing the River Thames once more via Tower Bridge before finishing at The Bike Shed for refreshments.

Alongside Ducati UK employees, Ducati Aylesbury led the procession through the roads of Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire to visit the iconic Silverstone Circuit, stopping for refreshments at Ducati’s UK Silverstone headquarters, situated adjacent to the Luffield corner.

On its official Instagram channel , Ducati reported the various events around the world in real-time, sharing videos and images of the day in Instagram Stories. All content remains visible on the Ducati channel in the #WeRideAsOne highlights.

#WeRideAsOne is a one-of-a-kind format that stems from the desire to offer the Ducatista community an unrepeatable experience of fun and sharing on the saddle of their bike. To keep alive the passion and the ties that bind all Ducatisti around the world, the motorcycle manufacturer has decided to add #WeRideAsOne to the calendar as a fixed annual event to take place every first Saturday in May.

MV Agusta is Back at Fuoriconcorso

MV Agusta is back at Fuoriconcorso the exclusive event celebrating speed and luxury on May 20 and 21, Schiranna’s new Superveloce 1000 and historic 500 cc 4-cylinder MV 72/74 on display at Villa del Grumello at Lake Como.

MV Agusta returns in its distinctively sophisticated style at FuoriConcorso, one of the world’s most exclusive automotive events, which takes place at Lake Como: a celebration of style, craftsmanship, innovation and excellence. This year, MV Agusta will be the only motorcycle brand present at the event offering bike enthusiasts an exclusive preview of the stunning Superveloce 1000, with racing legend Giacomo Agostini sharing personal insights and anecdotes on the past, present and future of MV Agusta.

The exclusive presentation will take place on Saturday May 20th from 10.00 AM to 12.00 AM in the scenic setting of 17th Century Villa del Grumello. Alongside the futuristic lines of the Superveloce 1000, visitors will have the opportunity of admiring the iconic lines of the historic, and incredibly rare, MV Agusta 500cc 4-cylinder 72/74, which will be on display for the entire weekend. The 500 72/74 is considered, with good reason, the mother of all racing bikes, as it inspired the aerodynamic solutions visible today on all MotoGP motorcycles, and it was also the main source of inspiration for the design of the Superveloce 1000.

This year’s FuoriConcorso’s theme focuses on aerodynamic and, therefore, it is not a coincidence that MV Agusta chose to bring the 500 72/74, courtesy of the Elli collection, to the event. Through the display of each exhibiting brand at “FuoriConcorso Aero”, visitors will be immersed in the evolution of automotive aerodynamics, with the opportunity of admiring some of the most iconic vehicles ever designed that contributed to the development and advancement of today’s, as well as tomorrow’s, aerodynamic solutions.

MV Agusta will once again stand out as an icon of unrivalled elegance and as a symbol of speed, cutting-edge technology and style, embodying the idea of an “aristocracy“ of racing that makes every single MV Agusta a shining example of “Motorcycle Art”.

Welcome to MyGARAGE

GIVI launches its new virtual meeting point between the Italian brand and two-wheel users with a wide range of advantages.

Often when we buy something for our motorbike, it can be difficult to understand the instruction manual to mount it, to know what accessories we can add to it or even to manage its warranty. In a bid to offer the best solution to any of these problems, GIVI, the renowned transalpine brand of motorbike and motorcyclist equipment, is betting on the latest technology, both in the design of its products and in dealing with its customers, to create its new platform, MyGARAGE. It’s a website designed for lovers of two wheels where we can find goodies of all kinds, like extensions of up to two years of warranty on GIVI items, video tutorials on the assembly of its accessories, instruction manuals for accessories, recommendations for the bike, wish lists and even a summary of all the GIVI materials we have. It’s an exclusive club that meets the requirements of even the most demanding bikers.

MyGARAGE is a new way to connect all GIVI customers. Imagine it as a kind of spokesperson for the brand. Through a direct exchange of information between the manufacturer and the user, this platform will be beneficial for both. Consumers will be able to offer feedback on the brand’s products and influence product updates or upcoming product launches, allowing the company to know and offer solutions to all the needs that motorcyclists may have. At the same time, those same motorcyclists will receive special treatment and exclusive opportunities.

The platform is simple to use. It can be accessed on the GIVI website, where we can register in MyGARAGE, filling in our details and disclosing the model of our motorbike. Once we have logged in, we will find a desktop where the vehicle we selected when we registered will appear. On this screen we can add the GIVI products we already have, extend their warranty for 2 years by filling in a short form and access their instruction manuals. What’s more, there is a section where we find some items recommended for our bike, or that might interest us according to the accessories we already have.

It also has a gallery classified by categories where we can find anything, from interviews with members of the LCR MotoGP Team, to videos showing the new products, tutorial videos or different experiences of other lovers of two wheels. It’s an interesting section for those who want to know a little more about the brand and everything they do.

The platform also allows us to create a wish list in which we can include all the brand’s products that we would like to have on our bike and see their price at that moment. Finally, we have a section where we can access all the catalogues of the Italian brand. And that’s not all. If you access the GIVI website once you have logged in to MyGARAGE, you can add references to both the wish list and the list of accessories you already have on your bike. In addition, this website has personalisation options, allowing you to change elements such as the cover photo, profile image or user name.

GIVI has taken a step forward, not just in technology and innovation, but also in its relationship with the customer. Through MyGARAGE, and the safety of its products, it’s offering the best attention to its users and a perfect solution to any need that may arise on the motorbike.
