Zero Motorcycles complete successful ‘Bums on Seats’ UK tour

Zero Motorcycles, the world’s leading all-electric motorbike brand, enjoyed a hugely successful UK demo tour, giving over 450 British motorcyclists an opportunity to try out an electric motorcycle for the first time.

Taking place at 16 venues across England, Scotland and Wales, the tour took place from August 27 through to September 18. Dubbed ‘Bums on Seats’ it saw a selection of models from the Zero range, from the sub £10,000 11kw models to the range-topping SR/F and SR/S electric sportsbikes available for guided taster rides. The tour gave motorcyclists an opportunity to understand better the characteristics of electric motorcycles and to help them overcome any preconceptions they may have about switching to electric.

Speaking about the tour, which was carried out in collaboration with the rapidly expanding Zero Motorcycles dealer network, Dale Robinson, Zero Motorcycles’ Country Manager commented: “To truly understand a Zero you have to ride one for yourself, which is why getting bums on seats plays such an important role in helping to get electric motorcycles into the mainstream. Several bikes were sold as a result of the demo days, from customers who had shown an interest in upgrading to electric but who wanted an opportunity to try out several models and discuss living with them before putting a deposit down. Just as importantly, we now have 450 new advocates of the brand and our products, and they will be able to go away and tell their friends about the positive experience they have had on an electric motorcycle. This is particularly important in 2020, where we will be unable to meet with customers and prospective customers at Motorcycle Live due to the Covid situation.”

Prospective purchasers will still be able to arrange a demonstration ride at any one of the 21 official Zero Motorcycles dealers on the British Isles and Ireland, the latest addition being Scooterised in Willesden, North West London, which has joined the network this week.

Harley-Davidson LiveWire Tour is Go

Harley-Davidson UK & Ireland LiveWire® Tour goes live to showcase the highlights and advantages of owning a premium all-electric motorcycle.

Starting on 5th September, for the next five weeks, Harley-Davidson UK is introducing a LiveWire Tour to visit specialist Harley-Davidson Livewire® dealerships across the length of the UK. The LiveWire Tour consists of a specially built exhibition unit that houses a Harley-Davidson Jumpstart® unit with a specially developed rolling road that allows riding simulation.

The tour is designed to enable motorcycle licence holders and non-licence holders to see, ride and appreciate what it’s like to ride a Harley-Davidson LiveWire without covering any distance on public roads. It is a simple case of ‘start and ride’ to experience the performance of the all-new H-D Revelation™ permanent-magnet electric motor and discover a vast suite of electronic riding aids.

Licence holders full motorcycle entitlement who want to extend their experience of the machine can then put the LiveWire through its paces on a standard test ride by booking in advance with the dealership that is hosting their event.

With the onset of ever-tightening emissions regulations, the placement of viable alternatives to normally-aspirated engine power is rapidly gaining ground. In late 2019, Harley-Davidson took the initiative and became the first major motorcycle manufacturer to release an all-electric motorcycle, LiveWire®.

To date, the Harley-Davidson LiveWire has received major attention and rave reviews from the media – from motorcycle and automotive titles through to technology specialists – which have been echoed by the first LiveWire customers in the UK. Now it’s the turn of everyone else – from motorcyclists to fans of modern transport – to see, try and enjoy the merits of LiveWire; a premium brand, electric-powered, performance motorcycle.

The LiveWire Tour will be manned to ensure a fuss-free Jumpstart ride and, in conjunction with staff at the hosting Harley-Davidson dealership, all customer queries and advice on OLEV grants can be answered.

Bookings for the LiveWire Tour Jumpstart experience and demo rides should be booked in advance here.

Zero Motorcycles demo tour set to hit the road

Zero demo tour set to hit the road again in August and September.

Motorcyclists looking to get an addictive first taste of electric power will be delighted to hear that Zero Motorcycles will again be running its UK wide demo tour, giving bikers a no-obligation opportunity to test ride the Californian company’s range of transformational all-electric motorcycles.

Held at 16 venues across England, Scotland and Wales, the demo days give potential customers a chance to learn more about electric motorcycles and to try out models from the Zero range on a short guided test ride. Pre-booking is not required, but recommended, due to Covid-19 protocols in place this year, and these can be made either via the Zero Motorcycles website: https://www.zeromotorcycles.com/en-gb/events or by contacting the host dealership directly.

The tour kicks off at Zero Motorcycles’ dealership Classic Motorcycles in Cheshire, on August 27, before moving to the recently appointed Pidcocks in Nottingham and then heading north to biker hotspot The Bikers Cove, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, and J&S Accessories in Gateshead. The tour runs into the third week of September, ending at Amped in South Wales on September 18.

Commenting on the 2020 tour, Dale Robinson, Zero Motorcycles’ UK Country Manager, said: “Our ‘Bums on Seats’ tour has been hugely popular in recent years as it gives riders a chance to try out an electric motorcycle for the first time. In normal times we attend a lot of shows and try to explain to people just what it’s like to ride a Zero but the only way to really understand is to get out there and ride one, which is what these days are all about.

“This year’s demo days are particularly significant as there have been no shows this summer, and we are also getting a lot of enquiries from people looking to get away from public transport and switch to two-wheels for their daily commute. This is a great opportunity for them to come along and try before they buy and to ask us any burning questions they may have about Zero ownership. As well as our flagship sports models, we also produce a range of A1 category bikes which don’t require a full motorcycle licence and we are happy to guide potential riders through the various ways to get on to two wheels.”

The exact list of models will vary from venue to venue, but Zero’s award-winning SR/F and new-for-2020 SR/S (both of which are currently available with a £900 ‘Upgrade to Electric’ discount) will be available on all dates, with a variety of other machines including the DSR adventure bike and A1 class FXS supermoto among the other models in the 2020 line-up.

The 2020 demo tour also marks the introduction of two new dealerships to the UK and Ireland dealer network, with Spark Moto of Addlestone and Pidcocks of Nottingham taking the number of dealerships on the British Isles to 20. Motorcyclists interested in knowing more about Zeros but unable to attend one of the demo days can contact their local dealership, each of which will have demo bikes throughout the summer.

2020 Zero Motorcycles UK demo tour dates

Riders attending demo days will be required to show their driving licence, with suitable entitlement for the model they wish to ride (A for SR/F and SR/S and A2 for other models). Attendees are required to provide their own helmet and protective motorcycle clothing and are asked to comply to social distancing measures on the day.Robinson added: “In past years we have had a very informal system where riders can simply turn up with their licence and riding gear but this year we are advising people to go to our website and pre-book a slot, as the Covid-19 protocols mean that places will be more limited, although we will still do our best to accommodate everyone within the social distancing guidelines we have in place.”

Zero Motorcycles expands dealer network with new appointment in Wiltshire

Despite the uncertainties of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, market-leading electric motorcycle brand Zero Motorcycles has expanded its UK and Ireland dealer network to 18 following the appointment of Motorcycles UK in Swindon as an official Zero retailer.

Motorcycles UK is a new dealership headed by industry experts Darren Neal and Chris Waldron, who together bring 45 years of experience in motorcycle retail. The Wiltshire-based outlet is the third new Zero dealership in the UK this year, following in the wheel tracks of Zenith Zero in Hampshire and Cheshire’s Classic Motorcycles.

“We are delighted to welcome Chris and Darren to the network at this challenging but exciting time,” said Dale Robinson, Zero Motorcycles’ UK country manager. “Although Motorcycles UK is a new dealership, the experience the management team brings is immense and the passion they have shown for Zero is impressive. Chris and Darren are two genuine go getters. They will be good for Zero and Zero will be good for them, we are a good fit.

“After a busy year expanding the dealer network in 2019, it was our intention to fill some of the few remaining open points in the first half of 2020. We know that there is a lot of demand for our products from commuters in Oxfordshire and the M4 corridor and the appointment of Motorcycles UK fulfils that demand.”

Despite the Coronavirus outbreak causing a massive decrease in vehicle sales in recent months, UK Zero dealerships have reported strong interest in the range of all-electric motorcycles from commuters looking to escape public transport and find a ‘new normal’ for their daily routine.

Dale continues: “This is a challenging time for many industries, including our own, but Zero dealers have continued to take orders during the lockdown, with some even recording record sales. Motorcycles and scooters are naturally a socially distanced way of travelling and provide so many benefits to commuters looking to move away from trains and buses, and our all-electric range provides even more advantages. Our 11kw models don’t require a full motorcycle licence and can be ridden after a day’s training, while the low maintenance, vibration and emission free running is appealing to a new generation of commuters. All of our models qualify for the £1500 plug in electric vehicle grant from the UK government, and prices start at £216.90 per month on a personal contract purchase (PCP). Add in free parking in most cities and running costs of around 2p per mile and, for many, a switch to an electric motorcycle may prove to be cheaper and more convenient, as well as a more isolated way to travel.”

Zero Motorcycles offers a range of nine all-electric motorcycles, with prices starting at less than £10,000. The models include a range of 11kw machines, which do not require a full motorcycle licence, through to the award-winning SR/F sports bike and the new-for-2020 SR/S, Zero’s first fully-faired high performance motorcycle.

Triumph Motorcycles’ dealer network to re-open

Triumph Motorcycles has confirmed its dealer network will re-open in England on 1st June, 2020. In line with local guidance, Dublin Triumph is already open, while dealerships in Wales and Scotland will continue to offer click and collect and digital sales appointments, though showrooms will remain closed.

A range of strict safety measures, as set out by Government guidelines, have been implemented to keep everyone as safe as possible and help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Some of the key safety measures put in place across Triumph dealerships include (but are not limited to):

  • Signage and hygiene stations at entrances confirming social distancing requirements
  • An enhanced schedule of regular cleaning in dealerships and workshops
  • Individual test ride appointments, ensuring effective social distancing and enabling thorough cleaning between test rides.
  • Contactless sales, collection and delivery

To coincide with the re-opening of dealerships, Triumph is launching TFest at Home, a six-week social media takeover, starting on 1st June, 2020.

Each week TFest at Home will seek to give riders and fans a detailed look at newly launched models, families or best sellers. This will be presented through a series of Q&As, product walk arounds, behind-the-scenes footage, media reviews, influencer content and exclusive videos on individual bikes.

In addition to the content being hosted on Triumph UK’s Facebook and Twitter channels, selected dealerships will be hosting Facebook Watch Parties. This new feature enables dealers to host a screening of their favourite videos shared during TFest at Home, inviting customers to join a live chat as they watch together.

Devron Boulton, Triumph UK General Manager, said: “We are of course looking forward to seeing our dealers open their doors again, however, we want to reassure customers that thorough safety procedures are in place for both the workforce and the public. Their safety is paramount to us, so dealers will be limiting the number of customers in showrooms to help encourage social distancing, and have enhanced their cleaning routines and schedules.

“TFest at Home will hopefully provide Triumph fans with exciting, useful and engaging insights into our new and most popular bikes. It’s a chance for those fans that have been considering their next bike purchase over the last few months to find out more about the exciting offers and ranges now available in store.”

London-Based Dealership BMG Adopts Suzuki Franchise

Suzuki has bolstered its presence in south west London, with popular motorcycle and scooter dealership BMG adopting the full Suzuki franchise, providing the capital’s motorcycling community with sales and aftercare support for new and used machines from the Japanese manufacturer.
BMG Suzuki boast 20 years’ worth of experience in the motorcycle trade, helping customers in London both beat congestion, standstill traffic, and busy public transport with commuter-friendly scooter sales and escape the Big Smoke with bigger capacity machines. The team has taken on the Suzuki franchise with immediate effect, looking to the Japanese firm’s Address and Burgman scooter ranges to help city-dwellers navigate London’s busy streets, while V-Strom and GSX-R options give customers the ideal tool for evenings and weekends away.
Bruce Milani Gallieni, BMG Suzuki dealer principal, said of adopting the Suzuki franchise, “We are thrilled to have been chosen to represent the Suzuki brand. I have been looking for another franchise to add to our current range for some time now, but so far, none were really what we were looking for. When the opportunity to work with Suzuki presented itself, I was both honoured and delighted to have been chosen. It is a very exciting brand with a legendary history and will mark a new chapter for BMG. I very much look forward to working with the team in Milton Keynes.”
Suzuki GB head of motorcycles, Jonathan Martin, added, “We’re really pleased to welcome BMG Suzuki to the fold, and bolster our representation in London and a key area of the country. The team at BMG is experienced and professional, and so are a perfect fit for us and a logical appointment to expand our presence in the capital. We’re excited to start this partnership, and are confident it will be a long and fruitful relationship for both of us.”
BMG Suzuki has also targeted commuters affected by the Hammersmith Bridge closure, and have just launched the hotly anticipated new KATANA, with a demonstrator available for prospective customers to test ride.
The showroom can be found at 416 Upper Richmond Road West, East Sheen, London, SW14 7JX, and contacted on 020 8878 8121. For more information visit the website, here.

Join the nationwide Suzuki dealership launch to celebrate the arrival of the new KATANA

Suzuki GB and its dealer network are poised to celebrate the arrival of the new KATANA in showrooms up and down the country, with a nationwide launch of this evolution of an icon on Thursday 30 May.

The events, being held in Suzuki motorcycle showrooms across the country, will afford motorcyclists the chance to get up close and personal with the new machine and purchase one of the first KATANAs to arrive in the country. There will also be exclusive special offers announced on the night for those that place orders, while dealer demonstrators will be available for test rides from 31 May.

The evolution of the legendary 1980s icon sees the 2019 KATANA take styling cues from the original, including sharp, KATANA Samurai sword-inspired lines, rectangular headlight and bold, red Suzuki lettering on the tank. However, the new model is a modern interpretation of the original 1981 KATANA and boasts modern underpinnings with a twin-spar aluminium frame, three-mode traction control system, one-push easy start and 150hp inline-four cylinder engine packed with an abundance of useable power and character.

Suzuki GB Head of Marketing, Fiona Cole, said ahead of the nationwide event, “The new KATANA has been hotly anticipated since it’s global unveil at the Intermot show in Germany last October, and then first shown in the UK during the Motorcycle Live show in November. Feedback from the first test rides from our dealers and the UK media launch in the last few weeks has been incredibly positive, and we’re looking forward to motorcyclists now having the chance to visit their local dealership and see the new KATANA for themselves, learn more about the machine and launch offers available as well as finally be able to place orders to ensure they receive one of the first saleable machines in the country. Attractions for the season opening meeting include the Triumph Show Truck, featuring a Moto 2 bike and a Triumph Factory Custom Thruxton, a pre-production example of a limited edition model, with only 750 bikes being built and offered for sale worldwide.

Husqvarna will be attending too, displaying their exciting range of 2019 models, with staff on hand to answer any questions, and Muc-Off will be bringing a selection of their distinctive products to clean, protect and lube your motorcycle, with plenty of free advice on bike care.

Rocking sounds will be provided by DJ Chunky, with a BBQ in the car park for visitors to grab food on the go, while Harry’s Cafe will be serving freshly-prepared food throughout the evening, for those who wish to sit down for a more leisurely meal indoors.

Suzuki and Robinsons of Rochdale to attend Manchester Bike Show

Suzuki GB is delighted to confirm attendance at this weekend’s Manchester Bike Show, opening this Saturday (23rd) for two days at Event City, with support from popular regional dealership, Robinsons of Rochdale.

Taking centre stage on the Suzuki display over the course of the event will be the new Katana, fresh from its recent press launch in Japan. Featuring the proven 999cc in-line four cylinder engine, the Katana combines unmistakable retro 80s styling with modern technology, including three-mode traction control, Suzuki’s low RPM assist and a Slipper Clutch as standard.

Also on display will be the popular SV650. Featuring the new 2019 colour scheme, the punchy V-Twin 645cc engine combined with its agile chassis is still arguably one of the most popular middleweights available, ideal for new and experienced riders alike.

Talking about the attendance, Graham Reedy from Robinsons of Rochdale, commented, “We’re delighted to attend the Manchester Bike Show again this year. Last year we worked together with Suzuki and our partners at Preston Motorcycles and enjoyed a really successful show. This year working with the same partners, not only are we proud to bring the new Katana to the show for the very first time, but we will also have it on display at our showroom the day before the show opens. On top of this, we’ll also have our rider training affiliates on the stand all weekend to talk to those interested in getting on to two-wheels. We look forward to chatting with customers once again.”

As well as the Katana and SV650, the Manchester Show will showcase key models from the rest of the Suzuki range, including the very latest GSX-R1000R, V-Strom 650 and GSX-S125 too.

Information on Suzuki’s current ‘Get Moving’ finance campaign will be available on the stand, including a great GSX-R1000R offer and other model promotions too. Robinsons of Rochdale staff will be available throughout the weekend to help with any questions visitors may have.

The Manchester Bike Show takes place 23-24 March at Event City, Manchester, M17 8AS.

Suzuki and Robinsons of Rochdale can be found on stand 105. For ticket information, visit www.manchesterbikeshow.com/buy-tickets

Specialist dealers take delivery of 2019 Honda GL1800 Gold Wing

Honda UK’s dealer network is now stocked with the latest addition to the 2019 GL1800 Gold Wing line-up, which is now three-strong. Joining the Gold Wing Tour and Gold Wing Tour with DCT & Airbag, the Gold Wing is now on sale at select dealers priced from £22,229. Available in the UK for the first time, this variant broadens the appeal of the iconic tourer.

Thirteen dealers have been chosen to retail the Honda Motorcycle flagship model. Offering the highest quality service, befitting of the Gold Wing, these dealers hold a wealth of knowledge on the technological tour-de-force, which they’ll share with every buyer to ensure they enjoy the model to the maximum.

See Honda UK approved GL1800 Gold Wing dealers at the bottom of the release.

Emphasising the leading design principle on the GL1800 of taut styling, the Gold Wing takes on a sleeker form shorn of the top box/rear seat unit that’s fitted to Gold Wing Tour(s). There’s also a shorter, electric screen that creates a tighter and more compact visage, accentuating the base model’s lower-slung silhouette.

The less is more approach runs skin-deep too, with the new Gold Wing tipping the scales 48kg lighter than its predecessor. Weight savings found in both the chassis and powertrain have transformed the tourer’s handling; nimbler and more agile the Gold Wing is a better ride than ever in all environments.

Lifted from the previous model, the horizontally opposed, 1,833cc six-cylinder engine has been comprehensively overhauled. Peak power and torque outputs have risen to 125bhp and 170nm respectively. Transmitting drive to the rear wheel is a six-speed manual gearbox that’s equipped with an assist/slipper clutch that improves the quality of downshifts.

Maintaining its cutting-edge reputation the Gold Wing boasts a complete technology suite. Incorporating a myriad advanced chassis systems, such as rider modes, and a sophisticated infotainment system, that’s accessed via a 7-inch screen, it is perfectly equipped for long distance touring.

Like all brand-new Honda models, the Gold Wing can be fitted with a Datatool TraKKing Adventure GPS Tracker, free of charge, by the delivering dealer. To activate the tracking facility owners must sign-up to the £9.95 monthly subscription service. A two-year, unlimited mileage warranty and European breakdown cover are also standard issue.
