Sunra partners with Lexham Insurance

Moto Electric, the sole UK distributor of the Sunra EV brand, has agreed a partnership with leading motorcycle and scooter insurance experts, Lexham Insurance, providing the official scheme for owners of the brand’s models.

Commencing with immediate effect, owners of the entire Sunra range can now benefit from preferential insurance rates from Lexham; leading specialists not only in scooter and small capacity motorcycles, but specifically for two-wheel EV models too.

Logan Black of Moto Electric, commented, “We’re very pleased to agree this partnership with Lexham. For us, establishing the brand in the UK isn’t just about bringing new products to the market, but ensuring we support both our customers and dealers as comprehensively as possible. Having a trusted insurance partner is an important part of this overall support, of which Lexham are incredibly well positioned for, thanks to their long-standing experience and great reputation for customer service too”.

With the Sunra range boasting five models, currently offering 50 and 125cc equivalents and with many customers based in urban areas, the team at Lexham have a panel of underwriters that aim to keep the cost of zero emission transport as competitive as possible.

Andy Goodson of Lexham Insurance, explained, “The EV market is of course relatively new to us all, and there are some misconceptions about risks both in terms of theft and in total loss situations. The reality is far more conventional and so we’ve been able to work with underwriters to look at rates from a real-world perspective. As such, we can offer Sunra owners a truly cost effective approach in general to their insurance cover.”

With Sunra products priced competitively to begin with, Insurance rates with Lexham are extremely competitive, making the switch to two-wheels for commuters even more compelling.

SEAT further electrifies range with launch of SEAT MÓ eScooter 125

Today, SEAT MÓ marks a significant step in the brand’s shift towards meeting the demands of urban electric mobility with the introduction of the electric moped, eScooter 125.

The SEAT MÓ eScooter 125, equivalent to a 125cc motorcycle, is priced at £4,996 per unit with the Government’s OLEV EV Grant included or available for £95 per month (48 months) on hire purchase, making it an affordable alternative for those looking to move through the city with ease.

To further simplify ownership, the eScooter 125’s battery can be charged in situ or be removed and placed nearer to a plug socket for convenient and safe charging.

Urban mobility has changed significantly in the last few years. The MÓ fuses dynamism, urban design, bold, contemporary looks, with an incredibly low cost of ownership, to offer a vehicle that fits right at home in the city, appealing to a wide audience and a new generation of customer.

Richard Harrison, Managing Director, SEAT UK, explained: “SEAT MÓ is our answer to the demands of modern urban mobility. With the UK Government’s 2030 deadline to consider, a two-wheeled electric vehicle is the perfect way to evolve the SEAT offering and move away from the conventional. This is a definitive next step on our electrification journey.

The initial SEAT MÓ offering sees the eScooter 125 available to order at 24 selected UK SEAT retailers* from today.

All-electric drive
Integrated into the SEAT MÓ’s rear wheel is an 9kW electric motor (peak power) – equivalent to a 125cc motorcycle or scooter – that produces 240Nm of torque, giving the city electric motorcycle a top speed of up to 59mph (95km/h) and a 0-31mph (50km/h) acceleration time of only 3.9 seconds.

Customers can choose between three driving modes: City, Sport and Eco, as well as a reverse gear to make manoeuvring simpler.

The SEAT MÓ eScooter 125 has a range of up to 85 miles (137km) (WMTC) on a single charge of its removable 5.6kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Thanks to the innovative design of the pack, the battery can be easily and fully charged in six to eight hours from any standard 240V home socket.

The perfect charging solution
The removable battery pack means finding easy access to a charger will never prove to be a problem again. The battery’s ‘click-and-go’ patented system is a sure-fire way to combat range anxiety.

For easy transportation of the 40kg weight of the battery pack, once removed, the eScooter 125 designers have carefully crafted an extendable handle and a set of caster wheels to enable the driver to pull the pack along to the nearest charging point – wherever this happens to be. Plus, the battery has an integrated 55W heater that operates while it’s charging.

Monitoring the battery pack is a state-of-the-art Battery Management System (BMS) that checks the cell voltage, the number of battery charges and discharges, and the temperature of the unit.

Eco-friendly braking and performance
The SEAT MÓ benefits from a Combined Braking System (CBS), alongside regenerative braking and a reverse gear.

With the ventilated disc brakes on the front and rear tyres (260 and 240mm, respectively), the CBS provides excellent control through the corners. By using the left-hand brake, the brakes on both wheels are applied, while using the right-hand brake only applies the front but engages the regenerative braking – amplifying the braking effect and recharging the battery.

The electric motorcycle also has supreme ride quality thanks to its hydraulic damping suspension system perfectly balancing the eScooter 125’s manageable 152kg weight (with driver and battery).

Design and equipment
It’s not all about mobility with the SEAT MÓ. The eScooter 125 boasts a striking, modern look arriving on UK shores with three different colours available: Daring Red, Dark Aluminium, and Oxygen White. The dynamic array of colours perfectly complements the MÓ’s LED daytime running lights and integrated turn signals.

Alongside the bold aesthetic, the MÓ is also brilliantly practical, featuring a central stand, a side stand, and a substantial under-seat compartment that can hold two full-sized helmets.

The LCD display provides the driver with clear information on speed, state of charge, remaining range, temperature, time, and two trip recorders.

Connectivity
At SEAT, using technology to its full potential is always the highest priority. The SEAT MÓ is certainly a product of this intention as the electric motorcycle comes with an On-Board Unit (OBU) with SIM which can connect to a smartphone app.

Via the app, drivers can gain easy access to vehicle information, including insight into the location or charging status of the motorcycle, journey history, and how much carbon saved has been saved each trip.

Accessories
SEAT is also offering a selection of accessories to complement the SEAT MÓ. Drivers can get their hands on a MÓ stylised jet helmet (S, M, L, and XL), winter gloves and summer gloves (S, M, L, and XL), a 39-litre rear top box, a trunk support, a mobile case holder, a high protection screen, a disc brake lock, and the Cosmo Connected safety system.

As an additional safety feature, the Cosmo Connected system is a removable and adaptable rear light for all types and sizes of helmet that also connects to a mobile application. The device not only incorporates visual safety through an integrated brake and warning light, but also provides an emergency call function to assistance services and relatives in the event of an accident, as well as transmission of GPS data. Cosmo Connected can act independently for other services.

For more information on the SEAT range, visit https://www.seat.co.uk/mo/seat-mo-125.html.

Note: I have tested another eScooter which is similar in design it can’t use charging stations at supermarkets, garages etc as it uses a UK 3 pin domestic plug (or equivalent in your country).

Super Soco Becomes First Electric PTW Brand in the UK to Surpass 1000 Sales in Single Year

Super Soco has become the first-ever electric motorcycle and scooter brand in the UK to sell over 1000 units in a single year, showing that there is an increasing desire for zero emission urban transport that is convenient, reliable and safe.
The company, which specialises in small-capacity, zero-emission electric machines for urban use, surpassed the record-breaking figure at the end of August. It has sold 1028 machines in 2021 so far to strengthen its position as the UK’s fastest-growing and best-selling electric powered two-wheeler (e-PTW) brand.
The achievement comes on the back of a strong 18 months for both Super Soco and electric motorcycle sales overall. This has been driven partly by consumers seeking a safer way to travel during the pandemic, coupled with an increase in environmental awareness and the desire for zero emission urban transport that is both properly legislated, and which – thanks to removable batteries – doesn’t rely on the existing public charging infrastructure.
In 2020, MCIA figures showed that e-PTW registrations were 51.2% up on the previous year, while Super Soco’s own sales have increased by a huge 478% in 2021. The brand is leading the charge in the electric category, accounting for an impressive 26.78% of all e-PTW registrations for the year-to-date. Its 125cc-equivalent CPx maxi scooter is the UK’s best-selling electric machine, with 698 units registered so far this year, while its TC Max café-racer style motorcycle has enjoyed a 70% increase in sales compared to 2020.
MCIA statistics also show that Super Soco – which was only launched in the UK in 2017 – is ranked as the 17th best-selling powered two-wheeler brand overall, beating well-established petrol-powered giants such as Aprilia and Husqvarna. With the Department for Transport banning the sale of all new petrol motorcycles from 2035, the increasing appearance of electric marques in the best-selling list could signify that the gradual shift to e-PTWs is already underway.
With five 100% electric models in the Super Soco line-up, ranging from the entry-level 50cc-equivalent twist and go CUx scooter and TSx motorcycle to the 125cc-equivalent CPx maxi scooter and TC and TC Max motorcycles, there’s something for every urban commuter’s needs. Each model features easily removable batteries that can be charged from a domestic three-pin plug within 3-4 hours.
Prices range from £2,249 to £4,249 inclusive of 20% discount via the UK Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Funding (OZEF) grant. For more information on Super Soco or to find your nearest dealer, visit www.supersoco.co.uk
Richard Jordan, CEO of Super Soco UK
“We are obviously very pleased as a company to have reached this sales milestone after four years of hard work to establish the brand in the UK, but more than that, we are really excited about what it means for the electric industry as a whole. No electric powered-two wheeler brand has ever sold this many units in a single year before and it really goes to prove that the shift from petrol to electric is beginning to take hold. Our particular focus is of course on urban mobility and the fact that Super Soco offers an efficient, affordable, convenient and zero emission way of travelling in towns and cities right now, without major safety concerns or the worry that public infrastructure doesn’t support it. It’s a no-brainer for environmentally-aware commuters and we’re happy that the message is now translating into real life situations”

Silence S01 Electric Scooter Review

Electric motorbikes & scooters aren’t the choice for long tours but they do excel in congested urban environments & city rides due to their swift initial acceleration and limited battery capacity. Not to forget the main benefit that they are completely emission-free which is without a doubt their main selling point. There are a few electric motorbikes & scooter companies offering their products in the U.K, and “Silence” happens to be one of those companies.

The Silence S01 is the Spanish brand’s second electric scooter that I recently got a chance to test ride down here on the south coast along to Brighton and Worthing. The S01 has a quite distinctive front end that unlike some electric cars or motorbikes does not look weird at all but at the same time, it manages to make itself unique from the petrol-powered scooters available in the market. The same theme continues along its side profile that standouts due to a boxy battery pack and the wheel hub motor mounted in the rear tyre.

To me, the riding experience of the Silence S01 was pleasantly quite different from a traditional scooter in the way it accelerates silently without any lag. There are a total of three driving modes, i.e., eco, city & sports modes.

The driving dynamics such as the acceleration, top speed, and regenerative braking vary widely across all the three modes, and in my view, the city mode would be the ideal choice for normal driving since it isn’t too restrictive like the eco mode whose top speed is limited to 43 mph and the regenerative braking is also quite abrupt. The city mode provides a nice middle ground and restricts the top speed to 53 mph and the re-gen braking too is quite subtle in this mode. The sport mode increases the top speed to 62 mph which would be good for occasional high-speed runs but remember that its toll on the useable range is significantly higher than the city mode.

The overall ride quality is reasonably comfortable thanks to comfy seats and the upright riding posture. The telescopic forks at the front and the single-side mounted single shock at the rear have just an adequate amount of travel to absorb the minor imperfections, though you would feel some harsh potholes due to a small suspension travel. Another great thing about the S01 is the practicality it offers under the seat that has been made possible only because of the electric powertrain. The S01 review would be incomplete without mentioning the technical aspects of which the most important aspect is its 5.6 kWh Li-ion battery that has a real-world range of nearly 80-110 km (depending upon the driving mode). The portable battery can be removed and charged from any 240V socket and can also be utilized as an inverter which would be a great option for powering small appliances at a remote location.

You can also charge the scooter directly from a socket under the seat (cable came provided see photo above) which I found much easier than removing the battery pack. The company claim charging time is 6-8 hours.

Under the seat is ample room to store items, which should store two open face scooter style helmets or a backpack and a helmet but in my case carried bluetooth disc lock and chain.

The scooter does also have an app where you can check where the scooter is, the status of the scooter and battery many other things. Thats said I couldn’t connect when I tested the scooter due to it being locked to a previous tester.

Conclusion
I think this scooter is aimed at commuters who don’t commute too far or as courier/food delivery transport.

If you were travelling any further that say 35 (83 miles from 100% in Eco mode) miles a day there and back in ECO mode (even less in City and sport) you would suffer range anxiety.

It’s really handy for charging at home, however if you start running out of juice and get stuck you can’t just nip into local petrol station, supermarket or any of the electric car charging points that are springing up as their not compatible you would need to find a standard household UK plug socket (or whichever country your in).

The lag-free acceleration, easier charging options, and cheap ownership & running costs are great additional pros of the S01 electric scooter which should make it an ideal contender for anyone looking to buy a two-wheeler for day-to-day usage.

One thing it does have which is sadly missing on most bikes these days is a center stand (as well as a side stand) which can be very handy.

Would I switch fully to electric? The simple answer is no until range is extended. However that said the Silence electric scooter would make a great second bike/scooter. Perfect to just jump on (making sure charged first) to nip to the shops etc or a short commute but longer journeys petrol is still king.

Many thanks to Silence UK for the week long loan for more info on the S01 or other models head to their official Silence UK website https://www.silenceuk.com//

The new BMW CE 04

The new BMW CE 04 – the silent revolution: A new chapter in electrically powered urban two-wheel mobility.

Urban freedom

“It’s early in the morning. The city is awakening. On the way to my garage I breathe in the still cool air. I’m wear a casually cut parka that’s both fashionable and functional at the same time. The protectors are inconspicuous but give me a sense of security. I’m ready for the day to start.

My BMW CE 04 is in the garage. I am thrilled by its futuristic design style. The low position of the battery gives the scooter an entirely new geometry – a complete departure from previous conventions. I’m glad to see it again. It’s a great feeling – every day.

For me, it’s the symbol of a new era – the era of the silent revolution.

The first birds are chirping, the urban jungle is awakening. The sounds of the city begin to swell. Everything is set in motion. People move – with each other and in parallel. Paths cross.

What will the new day bring? Tapas with friends at the little bar by the river? Or the exhibition at the modern art museum? First of all there are appointments at the office. Workshops, meetings, customer visits. This is what life feels like.

I pair my smartphone with the scooter, and with a flick of my wrist I activate the parka. Its LEDs light up. I’m quiet, but I want to be seen. It’s all so simple and smooth.

We’re off again at last. Even when I was having my breakfast, I couldn’t wait. Not even the birds notice me. I glide almost silently through my neighbourhood. I’m a part of the city again.

People start to look at me at the traffic lights. My sitting position is upright, relaxed. A new message flashes on the display, my smartphone is charging in the storage compartment.

Green light. With the scooter’s torque, I can float away ahead of the rest. I’m a rocket. But a silent one.

I feel as if I was on the Bonanza bike back in the day – cool and superior, but now connected to the world and one step ahead. Technology and style. Is this freedom? Yes – only better. No traffic jams, no having to search for a parking space. For me, it’s all time I save.

Acceleration, speed, bends – the BMW CE 04 doesn’t just master them, it redefines them. I glide through the traffic – the seat itself seems to float. It feels just right. Surfing bends is superbly enjoyable. Pure fun, from wave to wave.

The evening was beautiful, down by the river. We laughed a lot. The city motorway doesn’t forgive mistakes – my scooter sprints away and my parka glows in the dark of night. I’m clearly visible and arrive safely at my destination. Quietly, I glide into the driveway to my garage, again almost unnoticed by the birds. Good night, my city. We’ll be in touch.”

“The BMW CE 04 is our new electric star for the city. It combines an e-drive with emotion and motorcycling fun. The latest technology, and the best battery cells, which also provide power in the BMW iX. Just like the CE 04, all future new BMW Motorrad models for urban mobility will be pure electric.”
Oliver Zipse, CEO of BMW AG.

The new BMW CE 04 – the silent revolution: A new chapter in electrically powered urban two-wheel mobility.

With the new BMW CE 04, BMW Motorrad continues to consistently pursue its electromobility strategy for urban conurbations. As the final series production vehicle of the BMW Motorrad Concept Link originally showcased in 2017 and the near-series BMW Motorrad Definition CE 04 unveiled in 2020, the BMW CE 04 opens up a whole new chapter in two-wheel urban mobility. With its electric drive, forward-looking design and innovative connectivity solutions, the new scooter merges transport and communication functions for a new brand of mobility in the urban environment.

Plenty of power and ample range for supreme riding in the city and in urban areas.

With a maximum output of 31 kW (42 hp), the new BMW CE 04 has a powerful motor and offers outstanding riding pleasure. For the classic “traffic light start” discipline from 0 to 50 km/h, it takes just fast 2.6 seconds. Even in the reduced output L3e-A1 vehicle class, 23 kW (31 hp) drive power is available. The maximum speed of both versions is 120 km/h – for speedy progress not just in the city but on main roads and motorway sections, too.

The new BMW CE 04 has an ample battery cell capacity of 60.6 Ah (8.9 kWh), providing a range of some 130 kilometres (reduced output version: 100 km). This enables day-to-day emission-free riding in the city, in an urban setting and for smaller-scale fun tours after work or at the weekend – with complete peace of mind.

Innovative electric drive with liquid-cooled electric motor.

The new BMW CE 04 has a permanent magnet electric motor mounted in the frame between the battery and the rear wheel, as used in a similar form in BMW cars such as the 225xe Active Tourer. BMW Motorrad conducted extensive riding tests to develop a specific type of recuperation for each riding mode, giving the rider a high-level convenience. This means that optimum performance and riding characteristics are available in every situation on the road.

Short charging times and charging technology based on the system used in cars.

The lithium-ion battery is charged using the integrated charging device either at a regular household socket, a wallbox or a public charging station. When the battery is completely flat, charging time ideally lasts 4 hours and 20 minutes. With the quick charger available as an optional extra with an output of up to 6.9 kW (2.3 kW is the standard level), charging time is reduced to just 1 hour and 40 minutes when the battery is completely flat. If the battery level is only 20 per cent and the battery is charged to 80 per cent, the charging time is reduced to just 45 minutes with the optional quick charger. Depending on the market, the standard charging cable with a charging capacity of 2.3 kW comes as standard with the BMW CE 04.

A Mode 3 charging cable is required for fast charging at the wallbox at home or at a public charging station. In the same way as with BMW automobiles, BMW Charging solutions are available for the BMW CE 04, too – for maximum flexibility based on numerous customised programmes for charging at home, on the road and at work.

Increased riding stability through slip control by means of ASC (Automatic Stability Control). DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) as an ex works option.

This traction control system is available on the new BMW CE 04, comparable to the Automatic Stability Control in BMW motorcycles with combustion engine. ASC limits engine torque in relation to rear wheel slip. Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), available as an optional extra, provides even greater riding safety. DTC enables even more safe acceleration, especially in banking position.

Three riding modes “ECO”, “Rain” and “Road” for efficient, day-to-day use as standard. “Dynamic” riding mode for further enhanced riding pleasure as an ex works option.

In developing the BMW CE 04, BMW Motorrad attached particular importance to providing opportunities for the rider to make an individual choice between maximum efficiency and maximum riding fun. Accordingly, the new BMW CE 04 features the three riding modes “ECO”, “Rain” and “Road” as standard. The additional “Dynamic” riding mode is also available as an ex works option, enabling the scooter to accelerate at an even swifter pace.

Directionally stable suspension with one-piece tubular steel main frame for smooth handling and a high level of ride comfort.

The main frame is a tubular steel construction. The front wheel is controlled by a telescopic fork with a slider tube diameter of 35 mm. Rear wheel control consists of a single-sided swing arm. At the rear, suspension and damping are performed by a directly controlled, fully covered spring strut. The new BMW CE 04 is fitted with generously sized tyres, with 120/70 R15 67H at the front and 160/60 R15 56H at the rear.

Powerful brake system with latest-generation ABS. ABS Pro with banking capability as an ex works option.

At the front, a twin disc brake ensures secure deceleration, supported by a single-disc system at the rear. In addition, BMW Motorrad ABS ensures a high level of active safety. ABS Pro, available as an optional extra, goes even further: By means of a banking sensor, ABS Pro also controls braking on bends, thereby offering the greatest possible safety.

10.25” TFT colour screen with integrated map navigation for convenient route planning and extensive connectivity as standard.

The new BMW CE 04 comes fitted as standard with a 10.25-inch TFT colour screen with integrated map navigation and connectivity. Its excellent readability, clear menu navigation and highly integrated operating concept put the new BMW CE 04 at the top of the scooter segment. For the first time, the new 10.25-inch colour screen makes it possible to display a navigation map in the instrument cluster, so no additional display is needed.

Powerful LED lighting units all round. Adaptive Headlight Pro and light functions as ex works options.

The lighting units on the new BMW CE 04 are based on state-of-the-art LED technology. They include a headlamp for high beam and low beam at the front. In addition to a rear light featuring LED technology, there are also LED turn indicators. The indicator lamps likewise use LED technology. Even greater safety at night is offered by the adaptive turning light Headlight Pro, available as an ex works option. Here, the rider benefits from further improved illumination of the road when cornering for even safer riding at night. Ace Café headlines London dates for Experience Electric tour

Fresh from a successful trip to Scotland for the opening leg of their ‘Experience Electric’ tour, Zero Motorcycles heads to London and the Home Counties later this month for leg two.

The tour is designed to give everyday motorcyclists the opportunity to sample an electric motorcycle for the first time by offering short, no obligation, demo rides on a number of models from Zero’s transformational range.

The six-day second leg kicks off at new Zero dealership Spark Motos in Surrey on Saturday 19th June, before heading to Rye House stadium in Hertfordshire and another new dealership in the form of Oakley Motorcycles in Maidstone. The roadshow then moves into the capital with a date at one of the brand’s longest established dealerships, Chelsea Motorcycles in West London, on Tuesday 22nd June, before heading to the iconic Ace Café on the North Circular on Wednesday 23rd June. Renowned London artist and Zero rider Dan Gold will also be making an appearance at the ‘Ace’, where he will be on hand to discuss first hand his adventures touring with a Zero SR/S and living with one on a day-to-day basis. The second leg concludes in the East Midlands, with a day at Pidcock Motorcycles in Nottingham on the 24th.

“I really enjoy the Experience Electric tour,” says Dale Robinson, Zero Motorcycles’ UK Country Manager. “We’ve been doing demo days for a few years now and seeing the smile on the faces of experienced motorcyclists when they get off a Zero for the first time never gets boring!

“We understand that electric vehicles are still very new, especially for motorcyclists, but as soon as you experience one for yourself you’ll get what they are all about. That’s what these days are designed for. We’ve had a great time up in Scotland and hopefully in leg two we will be able to offer an even bigger experience as Covid restrictions ease. I’m particularly looking forward to returning to the Ace Café, where we have had some great events in the past, and we will have a few surprises up our sleeve throughout the tour. There’s no hard sell on these days, just a chance to go for a free ride out on a technically innovative motorcycle and have a great story to tell down the pub. What’s not to like!”

Places are limited on each date so, in order to guarantee a slot, potential participants are encouraged to pre-book. Events, along with specific times, are listed on the Zero Motorcycles UK Facebook page and have a link to a booking form.

As well as the chance to sample an all-electric motorcycle for the first time, each date will have opportunities to win a free T-shirt and to discuss the realities of living with an electric motorcycle with Zero’s team of experts.

All dates are subject to change, especially in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and any changes will be communicated through Zero’s UK Facebook page. All test rides are subject to the rider holding a full motorcycle licence and providing their own protective equipment. Taster rides are all accompanied and last approximately 10 minutes.

Going Electric Is Easier Than Ever

Going Electric Is Easier Than Ever – Silence UK Launches Finance Partnership With Motonovo

It’s never been easier and more cost-effective to go electric, as the UK’s newest electric motorcycle brand, Silence, is now offering finance packages with specialists, MotoNovo.

MotoNovo is providing an introductory rate of 8.9% APR Representative on HP agreements across a 36 or 48-month period, with no minimum deposit required. The offer is available to all customers, across the full Silence electric range.

MotoNovo can also create personal packages around individual customers’ needs and Silence has further illustrative examples on its website.

Mike Rose, founding partner at Silence UK commented: “Congestion, air quality, noise pollution are all problems that are helped significantly by going electric and that is why we brought Silence to the UK. We want to make it simple for as many people as possible to get on board and now customers can now access affordable finance, tailored to their credit status.”

It’s not just the environment: a shift to hybrid home/office working, reluctance to travel on public transport, and an increasing focus on sustainability is driving a shift towards electric two-wheelers. This is reflected in the latest market registration figures, which show close to 300% growth in the first four months of 2021, for the electrified moped and scooter segments, and a massive 550% growth in April.

Karl Werner, Deputy CEO at MotoNovo Finance said: “The way we commute is changing: the Covid-19 pandemic has changed many people’s routines at the same time as the emergence of Ultra Low Emissions Zones and Clean Air Zones in major cities.  We can see many more people looking to electric two-wheel travel in the months ahead and the opportunity to partner with an established brand like Silence is very exciting.”

Already Europe’s largest specialist EV motorcycle manufacturer, Silence launched in the UK in January, bringing a family of four urban-focused electric mopeds and scooters to British customers.

Offering the best of both worlds, Silence’s patented, ‘click and go’ batteries, app-connected technology and striking design appeal to the heart, while running costs of just one penny per mile take up to 80% less from the wallet.

The Silence family has a model for every need, all featuring the same smart battery technology:

  • The entry-level, 2kWh Silence S02 LS (£2,695 OTR) sits in the popular 50cc band, for younger riders, the more budget conscious, and for more occasional use. It has a top speed of 30 mph and a WMTC range of 35 miles.
  • The 5.6kWh Silence S02 LS Long Range (£3,595 OTR) supports last-mile multi-drop fleets, giving an extended WMTC range of up to 91 miles and a top speed limited to 30mph.
  • The Silence S02 (£4,695 OTR) has the same 5.6kWh battery but a larger 7kW motor (9kW peak), making it the ideal tool for professional courier services and urban business use. Top speed is limited to 62 mph. WMTC range is 80 miles.
  • The flagship Silence S01 (£4,995 OTR) and is the commuters’ choice, with a 5.6kWh battery, 7kW motor (9kW peak), top speed limited to 62 mph and WMTC range of 80 miles. It’s already proving hugely popular with eco and style-conscious travellers across Europe.

Super Soco Leads The Charge In UK’s Electric Two-Wheel Revolution

Official year-to-date registration statistics from the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) have revealed that Super Soco has not only become the UK’s fastest-growing electric powered two wheeler (ePTW) brand, but also the UK’s fastest-growing powered two wheeler (PTW) brand overall, beating all petrol-fuelled alternatives to the accolade.
The electric motorcycle marque has enjoyed a 17.5% market share increase in the electric sector and a 1.3% increase in the overall PTW category, which includes all motorcycle and scooter brands available in the UK. The news comes on the back of a bumper first quarter that has seen Super Soco go from strength-to-strength in a booming two-wheel market.
The brand is more than leading the charge in the electric stakes, accounting for an impressive 50% of the ePTW registrations for April and a third of the market share for the year-to-date. Its 125cc-equivalent CPx maxi scooter, which was launched in the UK in 2020 and is hailed as the ultimate commuting machine, has become the top-selling electric model and the eighth best-selling PTW overall of the year so far.
April 2021 figures showed a massive year-on-year increase of 570% in registrations of motorcycles and scooters overall, with the electric sector of the market up 515.7%. While some of the growth can be attributed to lockdown limiting 2020 sales, a comparison to 2019 still shows a very respectable increase (10.7% for PTW overall) and a proven shift towards two-wheeled travel.
The events of the past year have forced many consumers to rethink the way in which they approach transport. What may have been instigated by the need for a safer way to travel during a pandemic situation, is now evolving into the realisation that two-wheels offers far-reaching benefits as an alternative day-to-day mode of transport.
In the case of Super Soco and the electric market, the additional benefit is of course the green credentials, with the more environmentally conscious opting for a machine that does not emit polluting gases and which costs considerably less to run. Super Soco’s model range also offers a bike to suit all riders, whether they’re new to two wheels and after an accessible, easy-to-ride option or an existing biker seeking an efficient and cost-effective commuting machine.
The recent announcement of a Santander finance offer on the full model range has only served to increase the popularity of Super Soco, giving customers even more affordable access to electric transport. As 2021 and the boom in ePTW registrations continues, Super Soco is looking set to become the true market leader in terms of changing the face of urban transport.
Richard Jordan, CEO of Super Soco UK
“We are obviously thrilled with the latest registration statistics and see this as a pivotal moment for both the ePTW market and for Super Soco in the UK. We launched in the British market in 2017, so in the space of just four years we’ve gone from a relative unknown to the fastest growing ePTW brand with a dominant portion of the market share. To be in the top ten best-selling PTWs overall, outselling some of the really big names, is quite something for an electric brand. We’re very proud of the achievements, but we won’t be resting on our laurels now. We’re seeing a really positive trend in the electric sector and we’re confident that if we continue on this trajectory, we’ll see sales in excess of 1000 units by the end of 2021.”

Silence Helps Drive UK Electric Revolution From West Midlands

The West Midlands took another leadership step in the electric vehicle revolution today – as leading Spanish electric vehicle brand, Silence, opened its ‘urban ecomobility’ headquarters, training centre and first UK retail store in Solihull.

The targeted investment in the region is no accident: it is fast becoming a hub for UK electrification and green travel initiatives.

As well as being a centre for electric vehicle development and production, the West Midlands will also pioneer a UK Clean Air Zone this summer, when Birmingham launches its charging scheme aimed at reducing emissions from petrol and diesel vehicles in the city centre.

John Edwards, one of founding partners of Silence UK, commented: “Solihull makes the perfect location for investment, in the first phase of our launch and establishment of our UK headquarters. Not only is the West Midlands already a hub for electric vehicle businesses and research, but its leaders are focused on ecomobility and infrastructure.”

Councillor Ian Courts, Leader of Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, said: “We’re delighted that Silence have chosen to base their UK headquarters here in Solihull. Their investment reflects the confidence in the region as we position ourselves to be at the forefront of low-carbon future mobility.

“Transport currently accounts for 39% of Co2 emissions across the borough. Tackling this area is going to be key to unlocking our low carbon future and achieving our net zero carbon aspirations for the region by 2041.”

The regenerated site on Haslucks Green Road includes Silence’s first UK flagship retail store and service centre, covering over 700 square metres. It serves both retail and business customers, with the full UK range of Silence ‘e-moto’ all-electric motorcycles and scooters available for test rides.

Dan Storer, Chief Investment Officer at the West Midlands Growth Company – the region’s official investment promotion agency – added: “Silence joins the West Midlands’ leading automotive cluster at a strategic moment in its evolution. Building on a robust legacy of spearheading transport innovations, our region has a rigorous proposition to supercharge the future mobility ambitions of industry and Government.

“The decision for Silence to base its UK headquarters in Solihull is affirmation of the region’s potential to accelerate innovation in the sector and drive interest from foreign companies with aspirations to be part of a world-class automotive ecosystem.”

The timing of Silence’s UK debut is also no coincidence.
Big changes are taking place nationally in electrified two-wheel travel, which is growing in popularity, as an easy and cost-effective way to cut costs and emissions. The electric 50cc and 125cc market grew +50% in 2020 and is up almost 300% in the first four months of 2021, growing by over 550% in April alone.

These changes are being driven across both the business and consumer sectors.

Last mile delivery and food delivery services have soared during the pandemic resulting in a boom in sales of light weight, smaller and sustainable modes of transport, particularly in urban areas.

COVID has also had a significant impact on the individual commuter too with people turning to independent, private, and green transportation. The experience of improved air quality and quieter streets during the pandemic has heightened awareness of the need to choose zero emission mobility to make cities healthier and more liveable.

And new research shows the impact of choosing two wheels over four: travelling by micromobility instead of a car just once a day reduces an average citizen’s carbon emissions from transport by 67%, according to the University of Oxford1.

Lightweight two-wheelers are ideal for smart all-electric power, giving low maintenance, quick and convenient charging, and avoiding urban emissions charges. The 100% electric Silence ‘e-motos’ are equivalent to 50cc and 125cc mopeds and scooters, travelling up to 91 miles on a single charge while eliminating emissions, noise and vibrations and reducing running costs to around one pence per mile – a massive 80% less than conventional alternatives.

John Edwards explained: “The combined issues of urban air quality, congestion and cost are accelerating demand for smaller, affordable electric vehicles. Silence meets that demand head-on, with the latest in EV design and technology, backed by a European manufacturer with over a decade of market-leading knowledge. We are bringing something new and needed to the market. This is the right idea, at the right time – and the West Midlands is the right place to start.”

Edwards went on to state: “We look forward to helping larger West Midlands businesses transform their fleet operations as well as supporting local independent operators such as restaurants and delivery riders to go electric.”

The Silence DNA of reliable, zero-emission battery power, sharp Barcelona style and smart tech has already captured over 66% of the Spanish and 30% of the European electric scooter market, attracting over 21,000 customers across 25 countries.

Silence’s flagship retail store in Solihull will be one of several flagship stores opening across the UK, with the next sites planned for London and Manchester. A partnership model will also allow entrepreneurial businesses who want to join the EV revolution to retail Silence

scooters. 10 jobs will be initially created in Solihull with an estimated 200 jobs to be supported across the UK as the company expands.

The Solihull flagship store is now open to the public with test rides available to be booked on-site or requested online via www.silenceuk.com.

Zero Motorcycles announces 2021 ‘Experience Electric’ tour

Zero Motorcycles is once again giving riders up and down the country an opportunity to try out an electric motorcycle for the first time with its revamped ‘Experience Electric’ tour, starting in Scotland next month and running through to October.

The Californian electric motorcycle pioneers have invested in a new trailer for 2021, allowing for an even wider range of models to join the tour. The try out days take place at a wide variety of venues including biking hotspots, existing Zero dealerships and general motorcycling events throughout the summer. Each event will allow participants to learn more about the features and benefits of Zero’s all-electric motorcycles, to ask any questions they may have and to enjoy a short test ride to learn first hand about the exhilarating acceleration and super smooth riding experience that can only be delivered by a high performance electric motorcycle.

Speaking about the 2021 tour, Dale Robinson, Zero Motorcycles’ UK Country Manager said: “With all the lockdowns and challenges of the past year we can’t wait to get out there and meet the public again and hope to see many new faces this summer. We’ve been running these events for a good few years now and had big plans for last summer, only to scale them back for obvious reasons. With 30 planned dates, this tour is our biggest yet. We’ve invested in a trailer unit, which will allow us to offer more demo bikes and go to new venues. These events play a major part in our marketing strategy as many British riders have heard of Zero but not many have ridden our bikes. We appreciate that for people brought up on petrol bikes, switching to electric can seem scary, but by offering short, no obligation, taster rides and just being on hand to chat about what it’s like to live with electric motorcycles, we hope that those coming along find it informative as well as a unique experience. Riders who are keen to find out more are then able to contact their local Zero dealer to arrange a more comprehensive test ride on their chosen model.”

BRP To Introduce Electric Models For Each Of Its Product Lines

BRP (TSX: DOO; NASDAQ: DOOO) announced its five-year plan where it will offer electric models in each of its product lines by the end of 2026. To achieve this, BRP plans to invest $300M over five years in product development, specialised equipment, infrastructure, production tooling and facilities.

“We have always said electrification was not a question of ‘if’ but a question of ‘when’. Today, we’re very excited to unveil more details of our plan to deliver market-shaping products that will enhance the consumer experience by offering new electric options,” said José Boisjoli, President and CEO. “We are leveraging our engineering know-how and innovation capabilities to define the best strategy for developing electric-powered products,” he added.

After developing and evaluating several concepts, BRP has made the bold decision to develop its Rotax modular electric powerpack technology which will be leveraged across all product lines enhancing the consumer experience by offering new electric options. To achieve this, BRP is expanding its Rotax electric power unit development infrastructure in Gunskirchen, Austria, and is also creating the BRP Electric Vehicle Development Centre, located in its hometown of Valcourt, Quebec, Canada. This facility will feature state-of-the-art equipment, including several sophisticated test benches and dynamometers, plus an ultramodern robotised manufacturing cell for electric batteries.

“We are thrilled to create our EV expertise centre, taking steps into the world of electrification,’’ said Bernard Guy, Senior Vice-President, Global Product Strategy. “Experts on our EV team will feel the agility of a startup environment but will benefit from BRP’s financial resources and state-of-the-art equipment to design our in-house technology,” he added.

BRP’s electric path
In early 2019, BRP acquired assets of Alta Motors, an electric motorcycle manufacturer, and commercialised the Rotax Sonic E-Kart, which is currently in operation at the Rotax MAX Dome in Linz, Austria. A few months later, it showcased e-concepts at Club BRP 2019 to give a glimpse of what the future could hold for both its current product lines and for other potential segments. BRP has produced several battery-electric, hybrid-electric and even fuel cell-electric vehicles over the years. Today’s announcement brings BRP’s electric journey further into focus, with a clear vision and firm plans to roll out its electric products.

Expanding BRP’s electric vehicle development team
The R&D team is expanding quickly, and BRP is recruiting for several positions as it moves to the next phase of its electric propulsion technology development. With involvement from Quebec, Austria, Finland and the United States, BRP’s top talent worldwide, including hundreds of engineers and specialised technicians, will work together to develop and produce electric vehicles at BRP.

Energica-Dell’Orto: E-Power prototype projects begin engine bench testing

Energica-Dell’Orto: E-Power prototype projects begin engine bench testing.

The development of the E-Power project continues incessantly. E-Power is an innovative power unit for urban electric mobility. The first prototypes of the full system are ready, and the verification and set-up stage has begun. In the next phases of the project a strong integration to simplify the installation of the unit on vehicles and therefore reduce costs.

Energica Motor Company, the Single Manufacturer of the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup until at least 2022, has just partaken in the season finale of the series at Le Mans, which was a thrilling and exciting one.

The strategic partnership with Dell’Orto started at the MotoGP venues: the Energica Ego Corsa machines, which are key protagonists in the series, are equipped with Dell’Orto’s data acquisition system DoDATA.

E-Power is the name of the project that ties the two companies: it is an innovative electric propulsion system for sustainable urban mobility.

The study, designing, simulation and components testing activities, which have continued incessantly also during the lockdown, have come to a close and testing of the complete system has begun at the test bench.

E-power is capable of covering power ranges from 2.5 to a peak of 15kW, with performances that equal a range from 50 to 125cc of traditional engines and a riding range that can extend beyond 100km.

E-power is capable of satisfying all the needs at urban level and can be recharged via home charging sockets, without the need of ad-hoc charging infrastructures.

The system developed by Dell’Orto and Energica distingues itself thanks to a strong integration that reduces the number of components and thus simplifies the system.

The control strategies of the system could make us of the decade of experience by Energica in the electric mobility sector (road and racing), and of almost 90 years of experience by Dell’Orto in motorcycling, and matches perfectly with Dell’Orto’s expert knowledge in small and mid-size industrial-scale applications.

Thanks to E-Power, E-Power, the Electric Motor Valley created by Energica in the Emilia territory, which was then exported first in Italy and then globally, dramatically extends its range from the high-performing segment to the urban one while answering to new market needs.

In this sense, the partnerships makes good use of Dell’Orto’s production, technical and marketing presence in key countries such as China and India, where two-wheel electric mobility is the ideal answer for moving around the congested Asian metropolises, but also in Europe, where lightweight mobility is spreading significantly.

This year, the partnership between Energica and Dell’Orto will extend further courtesy of the CEMP project, funded by the Lombardy Region and aiming at creating a “smart” propulsion system which meets environmental-friendly, safety and connectivity requirements, and that brings the projects on the strands of development of the current megatrends: electric mobility, connectivity and ADAS.

Zero Motorcycles reveals 2021 line-up

Zero Motorcycles reveals new 2021 lineup featuring updated design and engineering elements for an elevated riding experience.

The company’s 2021 Model Year lineup is headlined by the category-defining SR/S and will feature updated colours and graphics for each model.

Zero Motorcycles, the global leader in electric motorcycles and powertrains, has announced product specs and offerings for the model year 2021 lineup. The updated product line is headlined by the reintroduction of the transformational SR/S, released earlier this year. The SR/S is Zero’s first fully faired bike, and is engineered to reward riders with 13% improvement in highway efficiency and range versus its naked sibling, the SR/F. All Zero electric motorcycles for the 2021 line are powered with Zero’s cutting-edge Cypher operating systems. Industry-leading engineering and technology blends together for effortless power, control, and connection. This is in addition to the updated colours and graphic options throughout the model line.

“The challenges that have come to everyone in 2020 have created some unique bright spots and opportunities for Zero Motorcycles including an amazing boost to our already healthy dual sport model sales” said Sam Paschel, CEO. “Our facility also had a pair of closures due to pandemic-related lockdowns and recent wildfires which allowed us to stop and take a strategic look at our manufacturing footprint and make improvements that will prove beneficial for years to come.”

Zero Motorcycles SRF

The firm has continued to produce more electric motorcycles than any other competitor each year, something it is keen to note has been a crowning achievement for each of the past 13 years. Even in the unpredictable circumstances of 2020, Zero managed to deliver the industry’s most complete and richest product line of electric motorcycles available once again.

“Zero has pivoted this year to make massive reinvestments in order to optimize our production and grow our manufacturing footprint.” said Sam Paschel, CEO. “As a result, we’ve properly managed the trials and tribulations of 2020 and are excited to be coming out the other side having maintained our healthy and booming dealer network. Whether you’re looking for a dual sport bike to conquer new terrain and adventure, or a nimble and light performance bike to tackle the front lines of city traffic, Zero has something for every rider.”

ELEVATED DESIGN FOR PREMIUM COMFORT AND EFFORTLESS CONTROL
Zero has continued to progress in rider comfort by extending a more relaxed riding position to passengers by matching the driver’s lower pegs and higher handlebars. Fine-tuned suspension adds another level of luxury to the ride. These elements, paired with Zero’s Cypher III operating system, provide seamless and precise performance for consistent, superior riding. Integrated Bosch MSC Systems, renowned for dynamic acceleration, offer improved stability for SR/S riders no matter the road surface or conditions. These systems working together also result in best-in-class straight-line ABS cornering brake control, traction control, and drag torque control.

Zero’s 2021 electric bike offerings feature elevated connectivity through Zero’s collaborative App to provide riders with current bike status, location, and more ride information, such as the ability to monitor their bike in four main areas: Bike Status Alerts, Charging, Ride Data Sharing, System Upgrades, and Updates.

Zero Motorcycles SR/S

2021 STREET MODELS
Zero’s 2021 Sport Model category features the cutting-edge SR/S. Its elevated look and feel are aligned with an aerodynamic fairing that leads to a 13% improvement in highway efficiency and range when leaned into the cockpit. Additionally, a lower foot position and a higher handlebar height result in a more upright and relaxed riding position. Its ergonomic comfort extends to two-up riding, giving passengers the ride of their life with matching lower pegs and a larger seating area. The 2021 SR/S is available in both Cerulean Blue and Skyline Silver, with standard and premium models retailing for £18,090 and £20,090, respectively.

Energica EGO / EGO+

Energica EGO / EGO+: High performing electric motorcycles

POWER: 107 kW – 145 hp
TORQUE: 215 Nm – 159 ft lb
TOP SPEED: 240 km/h – 150 mph

One of the world’s most powerful and advanced motorcycles that’s also electric.

Race bikes are optimized for performance, but translating that safely to the street can be difficult. The challenge begins once you take it to the road.

The reasons why Dorna chose Energica as single manufacturer for the FIM Enel MotoE™ are why you should consider Energica as your mount for everyday riding.

Our approach means that the immense power and acceleration we give you is tempered by safety features, rider-aid technology, and real-world reliability that brings our racing experience to your local roads in a considered and genuinely appropriate way.

This means innovative software and design, high-tech engineering of major elements, and reaching out for best-quality components resulting in one of the world’s most powerful and advanced electric motorcycles.

Ten years tested on the road and track, for your special enjoyment.
Energica Even More.

ENERGICA EGO

When the Energica Ego burst on the motorcycle scene, nothing like it yet existed.

Since then constant upgrades have taken place, and it remains the most powerful and sophisticated electric motorcycle homologated for street use anywhere in the world.

Our base version has the 13.4 kWh battery, providing up to 200 Km/120 miles of city riding, 160 km/100 miles of combined city/highway or 120 km/70 miles of sustained highway riding. Linear acceleration with peak 200 Nm/148 lb. ft. on tap all the way from 0 to 4,700 rpm and top 107 kW/145 HP spreading 4,900 rpm to 10,500 rpm. Energica Connected Ride – Long range connectivity as well as short-distance Bluetooth is now included.

ENERGICA EGO+

Energica takes another giant step in EV technology thanks directly to our intensive MotoE™ race experience.

The upgraded Energica Ego+ has a new, larger, 21.5 kWh lithium ion battery derived from our race bikes. With 62% more capacity, it is far more powerful than any other electric motorcycle on public roads, with torque at an astonishing 215 Nm/159 lb. ft.

The result: enhanced traveling ranges, at 400 km/250 miles for urban riding, 230 km/143 miles for combined riding; and 180 km/112 miles for freeways and long open roads.

No stock electric motorcycle has a longer range. Or charges as quickly.

Energica EVA EsseEsse9 / EVA EsseEsse9+

Energica EVA EsseEsse9/ EVA EsseEsse9+:The first “classic” electric motorcycle

POWER: 80 kW – 109 hp
TORQUE: 200 Nm – 148 ft lb
TOP SPEED: 200 km/h – 125 mph

The classically refined version of our Eva streetfighter.

Eva EsseEsse9 is inspired by the real name of Via Emilia, historic road crossing the Italian Motor Valley. Via Emilia is one of the oldest Italian roads, built by the Roman consul Marco Emilio Lepido in 187 BC to connect Rimini to Piacenza.

You might say that the Italian tradition of combining beautiful design with practical engineering goes back a long, long way.

Yet this beauty is merely a skin for the beast that lurks beneath.

Immense torque and acceleration are tamed by top-end Brembo brakes and Marzocchi suspension, switchable Bosch ABS, Energica eABS and adjustable traction control, all directed by our VCU (Vehicle Control Unit) – the most developed engine technology available.

Like all our motorcycles, the Eva EsseEsse9 has an exclusive feature: Slow Charge and DC Fast Charge capability provided as standard equipment to the rider; and in the Eva EsseEsse9+ version, 400 km of city range, 230 km of combined city and highway range, and 180 km of highway riding: no motorcycle in this class has greater range – or faster charging, at least 82% faster than any other electric motorcycle on the market.

Relaxed, refined, easy to ride, and very, very beautiful – yet loaded with power.
Classic Italian Style

ENERGICA EVA EsseEsse9

The classic Energica Eva EsseEsse9 is a brave, enthusiastic and heartful motorcycle on which the structural components are on sight.

Powered by an oil-cooled, permanent magnet three-phase AC electric motor the Eva EsseEsse9 has no engine vibes but the Italian machine has character all of its own.

In Eva EsseEsse9 Man and Progress have finally found what they’re always looking for: technology and passion.

ENERGICA EVA EsseEsse9+

Torque bumps up to 200 Nm., but what most riders will especially savor is the larger 21.5 kW max. battery on the Eva EsseEsse9+. 62% more capacity model means you now have more far range than any other electric motorcycle on public roads: a stunning 400 km for meandering through City streets, 230 km on call for your mixed urban and freeway travel, and 180 km for really rapid exploration of your throttle’s highway potential.

On top of this, the Energica charges at least 82% faster than any other electric motorcycle, so you don’t just get to your destination more speedily, you are back on your way more quickly as well.

Energica Eva Ribelle

Energica Eva Ribelle: The first 100% electric streetfighter

POWER: 107 kW – 145 hp
TORQUE: 215 Nm – 159 ft lb
TOP SPEED: 200 km/h – 125 mph

A streetfighter for the Electric Revolution. Back to the barricades.

Naked has never been so much fun

Sometimes you want aggressive with a little more of an urban vibe. Or you want an assertive riding position without assuming the full race bike crouch. Maybe you won’t spend as much time on the track or long highway sweepers, but more on tight country roads. Or you’re riding to work every day and want to walk in with a smile on your face.

But: you don’t want to give up on power or torque, or get shorted on style and technology. Yet for certain you don’t want to add to the pollution of the urban environment.
That’s what the Eva Ribelle is: a hard-edged performance motorcycle for rebels riders.

The Energica electric streetfighter fits this bill perfectly. It has the same linear 215 Nm torque at the Ego, the same 21.5 kW long-range lithium-ion battery with up to 400 km of city range, the same suspension and performance options, and all of the technological amenities.

It’s the only electric naked bike with DC Fast Charge, filling up with over 6 km urban range for every minute spent DC Charging – faster by at least 82% than any other electric bike.

ENERGICA EVA RIBELLE
Instant acceleration, sustained power, longer range. And more grins.

The Eva riding position is more upright than the Ego but still assertive, as befits a true streetfighter. Foot peg position is precisely the same; but handlebars are much wider and straighter, with a higher vantage point and field of vision. A slightly lower seat height also makes the Eva the ideal electric streetfighter for urban riding or commuting in heavy traffic.
