Yamaha unveils the new 2020 YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M

New YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M: R history. Your future.
Yamaha has been racing and winning ever since the company manufactured its very first motorcycle. Just 10 days after Yamaha Motor Company was founded on July 1st 1955, the YA1 – Yamaha’s very first model – claimed first place on the podium in the prestigious Mount Fuji ascent race. Since that day racing has been an integral part of the company’s DNA, and seven decades later this burning desire to compete and win is what defines Yamaha.

Whether racing a 125cc 2-stroke up a mountain in Japan or fighting for the lead in WSBK and MotoGP, the company’s absolute commitment to racing is second to none, and this devotion to competition pushes Yamaha to create some of the most inspiring, exciting and technologically sophisticated supersport bikes.

Today’s R-Series supersport segment features the widest line up of the most outstanding motorcycles ever built by Yamaha. Developed using the very latest technology from Yamaha’s WSBK winning race bikes – and inspired by the advanced designs seen on the M1 MotoGP bikes – each R-Series model from 1000cc to 125cc has the potential to power today’s thrill-seeking supersport riders into R-World, where boundaries are constantly pushed and ambitions are achieved.

Racing is and always will be the driving force that enables Yamaha to make motorcycles that lead the way, and for 2020 Yamaha introduce the new YZF-R1 and new YZF-R1M supersport models.

2020 YZF-R1
Built without compromise, the legendary YZF-R1 is Yamaha’s ultimate supersport motorcycle.

Since this game-changing model was launched, one of the most significant developments in its history has been the introduction of Yamaha’s revolutionary crossplane engine in 2009. Producing strong, linear torque, Yamaha’s crossplane technology transformed the supersport riding experience with its high level of useable power, and marked the beginning of a new era in which Yamaha has focused on achieving enhanced rideability and control.

A huge leap forward came in 2015 with the introduction of a whole new generation of electronic control technology which enabled every rider to push their YZF-R1 closer to the limit. Although it shared the same name as its predecessors, the 2015 model was in effect an all-new motorcycle that marked the YZF-R1’s transition from the analogue to the digital world, and in 2018 the introduction of even more electronic advanced rider aids underlined this flagship model’s technological sophistication.

For 2020 the YZF-R1 features a radical new race-bred look together with a highly refined engine and uprated chassis that confirm its position as the ultimate Yamaha supersport. With its radical new MotoGP styling and now equipped with a total of seven electronic rider controls, the 2020 YZF-R1 is more than ready for the third decade of the 21st century.
New M1-inspired body design
Every R-Series model has been inspired by the YZR-M1, and the all-new bodywork on the 2020 YZF-R1 underlines the close link between Yamaha’s MotoGP racing bike and the company’s production supersport models.

Pure M1 DNA is evident in the aggressively styled front cowl and racing screen, and the new fairing’s sides flow seamlessly into the fuel tank assembly to give a clean and fully integrated look that is enhanced by the use of colour matched lower tank panels.
As well as giving the 2020 model a more dynamic style together with a high quality feel, this new bodywork enables riders to reinforce the feeling of unity with their machine. Aerodynamic efficiency is increased by over 5%, giving significant performance gains at high speeds. And the newly styled LED headlights together with redesigned LED position lights further underline the radical next-generation look and character of the 2020 model.
This high quality bodywork also features a new aluminium air duct behind the front cowl that offers increased rigidity, and the lower section of the fairing covering the exhaust system is now manufactured from titanium.

Highly refined EU5-compliant engine
Producing 200PS, the 998cc 4-cylinder engine is one of the most exciting powerplants available in any motorcycle. Delivering the ultimate performance on the circuit, this sophisticated crossplane engine features a range of changes for 2020 that ensure consistently high levels of refined performance while also complying with the latest EU5 regulations.

Optimised high rpm performance
With its unique crossplane crankshaft delivering an uneven 270° – 180° – 90° – 180° firing sequence and producing maximum power at 13,500rpm, the YZF-R1 engine delivers high levels of linear torque to give the most thrilling ride together with an intoxicating character.
Yamaha’s engineers have further refined the engine’s outstanding high rpm performance with the adoption of newly designed finger-follower rocker arms and new cam lobe profiles that give an optimised valve lift and a more stable valve opening and closing at high rpm – which in turn ensures smoother and more efficient engine running.

Increased combustion efficiency
One of the most significant changes is the newly designed intake layout which features a redesigned cylinder head and relocated injector assembly that optimises engine performance. The throttle valves are moved closer to the combustion chambers to reduce intake volume for improved combustion stability and greater efficiency – and the new Bosch injectors are now positioned on top of the 45mm diameter throttle bodies, rather than beneath. These new 10-hole injectors deliver the fuel more directly into the combustion chambers, and also give a wider spray angle of 21.5 degrees in order to promote increased combustion efficiency.

Further upgrades include a redesigned exhaust system that features a total of 4 catalysers – with one pair located in front of the exhaust chamber and another pair at the rear – and both the silencer and also the engine heat protectors feature additional noise-reducing counter measures.

Increased engine efficiency
For increased engine running efficiency and reduced power losses the crossplane engine’s crankshaft benefits from larger diameter lubrication holes together with larger diameter crankshaft journal bearings, and the oil pump uses a 10% more compact rotor. Other changes include resized oil passages in the crankcase assembly in order to optimise the oil pressure, as well as redesigned nozzles on the piston cooler.

Further detail changes for 2020 include a wider second gear pinion for increased transmission efficiency, together with the use of thicker plates on the final drive chain, and for improved cooling performance at the exhaust ports there’s a revised cylinder head coolant passage layout.
Ride-by-wire APSG throttle for improved control
The Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) that controls the throttle valves continues for 2020, and for an improved throttle feel and reduced weight the YZF-R1 features a new APSG (Accelerator Position Sensor Grip) system with a magnet and a sensor that sends signals to the YCC-T. In order to retain the intuitive feel of a conventional twistgrip the new APSG unit features a spring, slider and gear that give a natural and progressive feel, and the settings are designed to give improved levels of control with enhanced rider/machine interaction.

Uprated suspension gives increased surface feedback
The YZF-R1’s excellent 43mm Kayaba forks with 120mm of travel are regarded as being amongst the best in class, and the forks’ inner structure has been modified to achieve an improved rider feedback. Newly designed damping valves are arranged in a laminated layout, and this feature – together with a slightly reduced fork spring rate and a revised fork oil level – transmits more accurate road surface feedback to the rider to give a more direct and natural handling feeling.
These changes to the front suspension are complemented by a modified steering damper as well as revised settings to the rear shock that further enhance the chassis performance of the 2020 YZF-R1.

Class-leading braking and roadholding
The YZF-R1’s dual 320mm front discs with monobloc calipers are renowned for their remarkable braking feel and performance, and for 2020 they are fitted with a new high friction pad material that delivers even more powerful stopping. The rubber has also been upgraded on the new model, and the latest Bridgestone Battlax RS11 tyres offer outstanding traction together with accurate feel, enabling the rider to push harder when required.

State of the art electronic control technology
The YZF-R1 was one of the first motorcycles to feature next-generation artificial intelligence in the form of a 6-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). Equipped with gyro and G-force sensors that monitor pitch, roll and yaw – as well as an accelerometer to measure fore-aft, up-down and left-right acceleration – the IMU transmits machine status data 125 times per second to the ECU that controls of the YZF-R1’s sophisticated electronic rider aids.
For 2020 this class-leading supersport benefits from two significant new advanced electronic control technologies that further increase this machine’s outstanding potential on the track.

New Brake Control (BC) system – cornering ABS
The new Brake Control (BC) system allows riders to select one of two ABS modes – BC1 and BC2 – that best match their personal preferences and the riding conditions.
BC1 mode features a fixed level of ABS sensitivity, while BC2 mode has a flexible ABS sensitivity that is dependent upon the machine’s lean angle and attitude. In BC2 mode the ABS sensitivity and intervention speed increase as the banking angle gets greater, giving added confidence and control when cornering.

Data relating to front and rear wheel speed as well as information from the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) – such as lean angle and slipping acceleration – is relayed to the Hydraulic Unit assembly and the ABS electronic control unit which make real-time calculations. This information then enables the Brake Control to prevent wheel lock ups by modulating the hydraulic pressure in the front and rear brake systems.

New Engine Brake Management (EBM)
Another new addition to the YZF-R1’s impressive line-up of electronic control technologies is the Engine Brake Management (EBM), a system that offers riders the option to choose from one of three different levels of engine braking force (high – medium – low) to suit a variety of riding situations and personal preferences. Using data from various sensors including gear position, engine rpm, throttle position and throttle valve position, the ECU adjusts throttle opening, ignition timing and fuel injection volume to control the level of engine braking. EBM1 delivers the highest engine braking force, with EBM3 the lowest.

Modified Launch Control System (LCS)
The YZF-R1’s Launch Control System (LCS) offers increased control during racing starts, and for 2020 the LCS1 mode has been modified to activate at 9000rpm with a throttle opening of 41 degrees.

With the addition of BC and EBM as well as the modified LCS, the 2020 YZF-R1 features a total of seven different types of electronic rider aids and control functions, giving its rider increased confidence and control in a wide range of riding conditions. Each electronic system has been designed to integrate seamlessly with other systems to give a natural and intuitive feel, enabling every rider to fulfil their true potential.

Comprehensive TFT instrument display
The YZF-R1’s fully transmissive Thin Film Transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display has been uprated to include indicators for the new Brake Control (BC) and Engine Brake Management (EBM) features.

Yamaha and Deus Collaboration Reveals The Swank Rally 700…and more!

From the beginning of the official Global Partnership between Yamaha and Deus in 2013, the already existing collaboration has been growing ever stronger. As a global technical partner Yamaha has been providing support for international events in Europe, USA and Australia. Of course what put the two brands together in the first place was their shared passion for motorcycle and customization that has originated a wide range of unique projects. Among some of their uber cool custom creations are the Deus SR400 ‘Lightning’, the XJR1300 ‘Eau Rouge’ and the stunning XV950 ‘D-Side’, based on a wide range of original Yamaha models The latest offering, the Swank Rally 700, takes the cool essence of Deus and blends it perfectly with Yamaha’s versatile and easily customizable XSR700. The result is a true Deus custom that delivers the engaging and emotional riding experience that the XSR is famous for.

A new Yamaha Yard Built: The pure off-road Swank Rally 700
Deus’ choice of the heritage infused Yamaha XSR700 was a perfect one. The 689cc motor’s strong linear torque and agile lightweight chassis form the ideal base for the new project. With off-road entertainment and action in mind, Deus mounted a Yamaha Super Ténéré 1200 front end, including forks, to the XSR along with a 19″ front wheel. Softer springs were used to account for the lower weight of the XSR700 and an Öhlins mono-shock rear was used to balance the suspension. Kineo tubeless spoke wheels were fitted front and rear and Metzeler Karoo rubber ensures maximum grip in the dirt.

Custom work includes a hand-beaten aluminium tank and a handmade saddle as well as a hand crafted aluminium skid plate. Keeping in true vintage off-road style, Acerbis front and rear fenders are mounted and Acerbis aluminium supports hold vintage plastic hand guards. A proper throaty growl signs off the Swank Rally 700 with a custom 2-in-1 SC exhaust.

The Reunion 2019, The Sardinia Swank Rally and Wheels & Waves
The Swank Rally 700 broke cover and was on display as one of the star Yard Built at this year’s The Reunion bike event at the historic Monza circuit, Italy in May before moving on to a big adventure, The Sardinia Swank Rally.

Celebrating the legendary Rally of Sardinia, first created by Renato Zocchi in 1984 after his return from the Dakar, the Swank Rally has two classes, one for vintage and one for modern machines. The Swank Rally 700 was the perfect bike to tackle the epic competition, bringing a mix of Yamaha’s Faster Sons vibe, Deus custom magic and XSR rideability to the event. Having successfully contested in Sardinia, it was of course on to Biarritz for the next stage of the summer, and the sun-kissed Wheels & Waves event. Adding extra flavour to the show, Deus arrived with a stunning 1958 Series 2 Land Rover, Landy, perfectly partnered with a vintage icon, Yamaha’s XT500, a machine that wrote the legendary opening chapters in the early days of the Dakar Rally in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Both vintage wonders rivalled the sunshine in glorious yellow liveries.

Fashion & Pitti 2019
Deus is of course a driving force in fashion so it was no surprise that the Yamaha and Deus collaboration also touched down in Italy for the Pitti 2019 event. Taking pride of place amongst the apparel and clothing were two superstars of Yamaha’s rally racing past – firstly a very special Yamaha DT 400 that took part in the 1976 Abidjan/Nice Rally, still wearing its original race livery. Demanding equal respect was a very rare Yamaha HL600 that saw action in the 1977 FIM Motocross World Championship.

The Yamaha Sport Heritage range is a major success with those riders who appreciate the unique formula that blends timeless style with a special character, sophisticated engine and chassis technology. This retro appeal mixed with contemporary high-tech motorcycles are enabling today’s riders to discover the true essence of motorcycling. It is the Faster Sons philosophy, a refreshing approach to motorcycle design attracting riders of all ages and backgrounds to the Yamaha Sport Heritage line.

From the first collaborative builds together and continuing with the official global technical partnership, the relationship with Deus and Yamaha grows stronger, bringing a shared passion for fun and emotional riding experiences and the custom lifestyle to a happy and engaged fanbase of motivated two-wheel enthusiasts around the world.

Already renowned for its enormous power output, the YZ450F engine has been thoroughly redesigned for 2020 to deliver stronger and more controllable performance. The new engine is significantly more compact and lighter, and the revised configuration enhances the bike’s mass centralised design to make it one of the easiest-handling open class motocross machines.

Featuring a high compression reverse cylinder head as well as a durable forged piston and aggressive cam profiles, the compact new 450cc engine is designed to deliver the best balance of race-winning performance together with ultimate controllability.

All-new rearward-slanted cylinder

One of the key engine improvements for 2020 is the new rearward-slanted cylinder that is both lighter and more compact. Because this innovative design is positioned closer to the bike’s mid-section it helps to achieve an idealised mass centralisation, and this contributes enormously towards the YZ450F’s dynamic handling characteristics.

The new rearward-slanting cylinder is equipped with a high compression bridge-box design piston, and together with the high-efficiency reverse cylinder head with its long and straight inlet, this industry-leading design produces a fine balance of 450-class power combined with exceptional controllability.

Yamaha Power Tuner

The Yamaha YZ450F was the first motocross bike with inbuilt connectivity, that enables remote wireless tuning using a smartphone, and the 2020 model continues to lead the field in terms of digital technology.

By downloading the free Power Tuner app for IOS or Android devices, YZ450F riders or mechanics can easily adjust the fuel/air mix and ignition timing to set the bike up for different tracks and changing riding conditions. This feature makes the 2020 YZ450F the most adaptable motocross machine that can be tuned instantly at the trackside, enabling its rider to master a wide range of surfaces and weather conditions.

In addition to its engine re-mapping function, the Power Tuner app can also record race log information and monitor a range of data, including system diagnosis, engine run time and more, making it an indispensable part of every rider’s toolkit.

Handlebar-mounted adjustable mapping switch

After pre-programming the 2020 YZ450F with the Power Tuner in the paddock, there’s a handlebar-mounted mapping switch that enables the rider to select the map of their choice. This simple on-the-fly adjustment allows instant mapping changes to suit changing track or weather conditions, from a super-aggressive map for fast dry tracks to a more useable map on muddy surfaces.

Compact electric starter

The new 450 engine is equipped with a compact and lightweight electric starter that gives push-button convenience and saves valuable seconds when restarting under pressure during a race. Powered by a high capacity four-cell lithium-ion battery, it keeps the 2020 YZ450F’s weight down to a minimum.

Launch Control System

The YZ450F’s Launch Control System (LCS) optimises the engine’s power output and running characteristics during the first few seconds of the race after the gate drops. By helping to transmit power more efficiently, the LCS gives greater controllability and traction off the line, increasing the rider’s holeshot-winning performance and giving a real advantage in the crucial charge to the first corner.

Advanced fuel injection system

The compact new engine is equipped with a highly advanced Mikuni® fuel injection system that features a light and ultra-compact 44mm throttle body. Delivering the fuel/air mix via a long and straight forward facing inlet, this advanced fuel injection system benefits from a high pressure electric pump that ensures optimum atomization for excellent running performance in a wide range of riding conditions

High efficiency angled radiators

To ensure that the new more powerful engine runs efficiently in all conditions, Yamaha’s engineers have developed enhanced radiators that are angled to directly face the incoming air. By maintaining a consistent airflow, this angled radiator layout delivers more effective engine cooling for winning performance.

Robust 5-speed transmission

The YZ450F’s robust 5-speed transmission is built to handle even the most aggressive left foot. The specially-developed gears feature a large surface area that spread the load, and together with an updated clutch this delivers high levels of durability – while the shift drum and selectors are designed to give improved feel and a shorter stroke when shifting gear.

Mass-centralised wraparound exhaust

A key feature of the YZ450F is its mass centralised design, in which major components are located as close to the bike’s centre of gravity as possible. One example of this is the wraparound exhaust that snakes around the cylinder, and this design also enables the fitment of a muffler that is mounted further forwards and closer to the bike’s centre.

Combined with the new rearward-slanted cylinder, this centralises the mass which contributes significantly towards achieving lightweight and dynamic handling performance.

Lighter aluminium frame for sharper handling

The YZ450F is already regarded as being one of the best handling bikes in the open class, and for 2020 the compact aluminium frame has been carefully retuned to match the new more powerful engine.

To reduce weight and fine tune the bike’s instinctive handling performance, the new bilateral frame features thinner main spars together with thicker down tubes and new engine mounts. These significant changes – together with the mass centralised design and class-leading suspension – help to deliver even sharper handling for reduced lap times.

Slimline body and seat

The YZ450F’s compact fuel tank and radiator shrouds as well as the slim seat not only enhance rider mobility and enable an effective knee grip, they also underline the bike’s feeling and impression of lightness and manoeuvrability to give the rider a psychological advantage before the race even starts.

By enabling the rider to shift their body weight quickly and easily, the ergonomic design helps to improve controllability and reduce fatigue.

Industry-leading suspension systems

The YZ450F is equipped with fully adjustable coil spring KYB® forks that are widely regarded as being the ultimate in off road suspension design. Featuring speed sensitive damping that gives the idealised balance between handling and bump absorption, these exceptional front forks deliver best-in-class performance.

The fully-adjustable link-type rear end features a specially tuned KYB® shock that delivers high levels of traction together with smooth suspension action at low and high speeds, giving exceptional handling in a range of track conditions.

Lightweight wheels

Featuring factory-bike style blue anodized rims, the wheels have been refined using computer aided design to create a lighter design for lower unsprung weight, while maintaining their renowned durability.

Uprated brakes

A more rigid front caliper with an aggressive pad material works with the 270mm front disc for outstanding braking performance, while a new lightweight rear caliper and new rear disc reduce unsprung weight.

Yamaha Showcases Sporting DNA with Cycling Tours Sponsorship

With a history steeped in competition, from Yamaha’s first race in the year of founding – the 1955 Mount Fuji race – the desire to compete and succeed at the highest level is ingrained in our DNA.

This sporting vein running deep through the company not only brings shared success in competitive sporting activities in a healthy and positive way, but it also drives Yamaha to break new boundaries to deliver innovation, excitement, and emotion in the products they create with a never-give-up attitude. An attitude that is also intrinsic in the cycle world.

2019 is the first year of a three-year partnership with A.S.O. and RCS where Yamaha will share this sporting drive and positive emotional ambition through sponsorship of both major and smaller European cycling Tours. The Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and La Vuelta form the perfect background to bring excitement and encouragement to the public, inspiring them to embrace an active lifestyle and enjoy healthy activities.

The 2019 Giro d’Italia has Now Begun!
The world’s elite cyclists are once again pitting their skill, endurance levels and bicycles against the toughest, twisting riding stages in Italy. The event – as challenging as the Tour de France and La Vuelta – is the perfect partner for the revolutionary NIKEN. Their innovative Leaning Multi-Wheel (LMW) technology means the special, Giro personalised NIKENs make easy work of the winding mountain passes for the race direction, race commissioners and the official event supported teams. The role is crucial, delivering timely medical assistance where needed as well as bringing hydration, energy supplying food and, of course, replacement wheels and tyres on the go.

As well as the major tours, Yamaha also supports the smaller Tours earlier and later in the year in Italy, France, Spain and Belgium. The successful programme got underway with the 2019 Strade Bianche in Italy on March 9th and the 2019 Paris-Nice in France on March 10th/17th.

Tour de France: 6th – 28th July 2019

La Vuelta: 24th August – 15th September 2019

Yamaha reveals 11 new stunning Yard Built projects at The Reunion 2019

As the weather turns warmer and the season of outdoor fun begins, Yamaha is getting ready to bring real Faster Sons flavour to the 2019 The Reunion custom bike event in Monza, Italy on 17-19 May.

Yamaha’s Faster Sons and Yard Built have had a strong presence bringing custom delight to the best bike shows and festivals in Europe for a number of years.  After a multi-year involvement celebrating the sun-kissed Wheels & Waves event in Biarritz, Yamaha is broadening horizons and heading to Italy; the game has been well and truly raised for 2019’s The Reunion. Attendees can expect the cream of the Sport Heritage Range in full force. Following 2018’s super cool ‘Back to the Future’ theme, the style changes in 2019 as the retro cool XSR700 and stunning new XTribute lead the way for an exciting new project, ‘Back to the Dirt’.

Faster Sons Concept

Whilst it may be based on a retro, vintage style, Yamaha’s Sport Heritage range blends this flavour with the latest in technology, delivering a true emotional experience in the ride. The Faster Sons philosophy embodies this, respecting the icons and designs of the Japanese manufacturer’s past whilst pushing the boundaries of motorcycle technology forwards in the Sport Heritage range. Faster Sons tips its hat in respect to the bikes that have come before and at the same time celebrates the retro scene and colourful characters that breathe life into this diverse world.

Yard Built

Yamaha’s Yard Built projects have led the way in the revival of the cool custom world. Developing relationships with the rock stars of the building world, the project has delivered an incredible line up of unique and breath-taking one-off custom builds based on the Sport Heritage range of motorcycles. Legendary builders from across the globe, including the godfather of the custom world, Shinya Kimura, have turned their skilled hands to proving how easy it is to customise one of Yamaha’s very flexible retro machines. The exercise provides inspiration and has set new trends in the motorcycle world, making it a reality for everyone to make their Yamaha their own.

Deus Ex Machina will reveal their Rally-ready XSR in Monza, before heading straight off to put it into action at the Sardegna Swank Rally.

Back to the Dirt

The 2019 The Reunion will set the scene for a new Yamaha Yard Built Theme; Back to the Dirt. This year the challenge for nine customisers is to bring the vintage rally vibe to life with XSR700 creations that take inspiration from Yamaha MX and Rally machines of the 70’s and 80’s. Expect to see something special from D&G Motorsport Italy, Kiddo Motors Spain, Sur Les Chapeaux de Roues France, Hookie Co. The Reunion event

The Reunion 2019 will run from the 17 to 19 May in the grounds of the iconic Autodromo di Monza, in Italy. With over 15,000 attendees expected, the festival will provide an overload of custom and classic bikes as part of the show. With further exhibitions, 1/8 mile drag racing and a special one-on-one scrambler race, there’s no better place to be this spring to get your Faster Sons fix.

Yamaha Breathes Pure Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP DNA Into the YZF-R125

The all-new Yamaha YZF-R125 arrived on the scene in January 2019 as the most advanced 125cc Supersport created by Yamaha. This YZF-R125 is instilled with R-World and racing DNA, building on years of experience by our racing teams in many categories. From May onwards this year the strands of this DNA run deeper and stretch further, combining pure racing spirit from Yamaha’s legendary MotoGP Team into the special YZF-R125 Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition.

This exclusive edition of the YZF-R125 perfectly reflects its racing pedigree with the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP inspired livery that closely matches the YZR-M1s look of MotoGP superstars Valentino Rossi and Maverick Viñales. The edgy, aggressive styling is unmistakable, and the instantly recognizable green Monster Energy claw marks this out as a track predator. This edition gives riders the opportunity to take one step closer to the world of racing talent, proudly reflecting pure Yamaha racing DNA on their own machine.

Of course a genuine Supersport machine needs the power to back up the styling and the YZF-R125 doesn’t disappoint. The 2019 125cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve beating heart at the centre, was completely redesigned for the 2019 model, for even more high-output torque and a broader, smoother power delivery at the flick of the wrist.

The technology behind the engine is pure science, a Variable Valve Actuation system (VVA) that optimises the intake valve timing in relation to engine rpm. Translated to performance, the VVA system means the YZF-R125 rider experiences great thrills powered by high torque and strong acceleration from low to mid rpm and solid performance at higher engine speeds.

The impressive performance and power delivery is topped off by a handling package to match. The Deltabox frame with optimised geometry delivers the YZF-R125’s legendary handling. The 2019 designed, lightweight aluminium swingarm completes the chassis setup optimising rigidity for a sporty, agile and comfortable ride.

Power and handling are nothing without control, so the YZF-R125 offers plenty of R-Series features, including an accurate A&S (Assist and Slipper) clutch, 41mm upside down front suspension, GP style handle crown and a beefy 140 rear tyre.

The exclusive 2019 YZF-R125 Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP edition is the ultimate homage to the real MotoGP deal and available to order from May 2019 onwards at your local Yamaha Dealer.  The YZF-R125 comes also in Yamaha Blue, Tech Black and Competition White. NIKEN is the Official Support unit of the three most famous bicycle races worldwide

Yamaha Confirms Three-Year Technical Partnership for the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and La Vuelta

Yamaha is pleased to confirm a strategic new 3-year partnership with A.S.O. and RCS Sports, organisers of Europe’s three major Cycling Grand Tours, which will see the NIKEN become the official support motorcycle through to the end of the 2021 season.

Combining outstanding sport performance, all-round versatility and serious long-distance travelling capabilities, the NIKEN is a distinguished member of Yamaha’s Sport Touring motorcycle range.

Its revolutionary Leaning Multi-Wheel (LMW) technology ensures added points of contact with the road surface at all times and means that it doesn’t matter whether it’s sweltering heat in summer, icy cold in winter, or any other season or condition, the NIKEN will ensure unrivalled comfort and riding confidence in any condition and any season.

Providing ubiquitous support

Each of the three Grand Tours crosses some of the most intense mountain roads imaginable. From the twisty mountain paths of Italy and Spain to the long valley straights of Belgium and northern France, the NIKEN will be the ultimate riding companion for the vast numbers of motorcyclists supporting the Grand Tours.

Offering a seamless transition from a conventional two-wheeler, with no alteration to riding style needed, Yamaha’s NIKEN machines will be used by race direction, race commissioners and the official event support teams.

NIKEN riders will be assigned with a list of demanding responsibilities throughout each of these global sporting events. Some of the most vital duties include the provision of medical assistance, the changing of wheels for cyclists, the transportation of drinks and nutritional elements, the regulation of the race and the publicity Caravan

Strengthening a solid partnership

Covering a combined distance of over 10,000 km, the three major Grand tours together with all additional events organised by A.S.O. and RCS Sport work their way through some of the windiest mountain roads in the world. The first two of many events where NIKEN mounted riders will be providing their precious support will be the 2019 Strade Bianche in Italy on March 9 and the 2019 Paris-Nice in France on March 10/17.

Giro d’Italia

Kicking off on 11 May, the 102nd edition of the Giro d’Italia features 21 demanding stages and a total distance of 3,518.5 km. With cyclists averaging 167.5 km per day, the 2019 event is packed with big climbs in central and northern Italy’s mountainous terrain.

Supporting race organisers RCS Sport since 2009 by providing a variety of scooters and motorcycles, Yamaha will be back during the upcoming edition of the event with the newest edition of the NIKEN. The race will end with the closing time trial taking place on the Torricelle circuit in Verona on 2 June 2019.

Next to that, the NIKEN will be also the official bike for the different spring and autumn races.

Tour de France

From 6 to 28 July, the international road cycling elite will gather in Brussels, Belgium to start the 106th edition of the world’s most famous cycling event. The 2019 Tour de France features a total of 21 stages across two countries and 37 different regions within France.

The race includes seven flat stages, two time trials, five hilly stages and seven mountain stages, five of which finish at the top of some of France’s tallest mountain peaks. Together with thousands of visitors filling each stage, the event will continue to enjoy substantial global media coverage with more than 2,000 journalists and photographers attending the race.

La Vuelta

Wrapping up the three major Grand Tours for 2019 will be the 2019 La Vuelta in Spain. Running from 24 August to 15 September, the 2019 edition of the event will be made up of 21 stages and will cover a total distance of 3272.2 km. Building upon a strong relationship with race organisers A.S.O., Yamaha will provide a fleet of NIKEN machines to support the 2019 edition of La Vuelta.

Eric de Seynes – Yamaha Motor Europe President

“This thrilling new agreement with the organisers of the three most prestigious cycling tours globally is a perfect opportunity to demonstrate the vast potential of our NIKEN machine. Competition in all of its forms is deeply rooted within Yamaha’s DNA and this collaboration allows us to be a vital part in the smooth operation of some of the world’s biggest sporting events. With the assistance crews covering innumerable kilometres crossing the heart of

Europe, this is also a great opportunity for Yamaha to bring its revolutionary product closer to the public and demonstrate its performance and reliability no matter the terrain or conditions. Our range of NIKEN models stands out for its multipurpose nature, its ability to welcome riders of all levels and its unique capacity to offer unmatched comfort and riding safety on any road. Get Ready to conquer the track on the YZF-R1 GYTR ’20th Anniversary’

The hyper exclusive 2019 YZF-R1 GYTR ’20th Anniversary’ is ready to order now! Sporting the same livery used by the Yamaha Factory Racing Team for their record breaking fourth consecutive Suzuka 8 Hours victory, this track ready racer is ready to conquer the track.

Two decades ago, Yamaha revealed the YZF-R1. A design that revolutionised the superbike market both in racing and production models. Over the last twenty years it has continued to be at the forefront of boundary crushing innovation and has seen incredible results in the FIM Endurance World Championship and FIM Superbike World Championship and enduring love from superbike riders around the globe.

To celebrate 20 years of the YZF-R1 leading the way in superbike technology, Yamaha crafted an updated livery based on the iconic red, black and white colour scheme of the very first 1998 model. That honorary livery was seen at motorsports events around the globe but the high point was undoubtedly at the world’s most famous Endurance race; Suzuka 8 Hours. All three Official Yamaha Racing teams sported their own version of the timeless design, but it was the Yamaha Factory Racing Team who broke their own record, riding their endurance spec YZF-R1 to a staggering fourth consecutive victory.

Now comes your chance to get racing on a genuine piece of motorsports history. The YZF-R1 GYTR ’20th Anniversary’ is a machine built for circuit use only and comes with a wide range of GYTR – Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing – and other performance parts as standard, listed in all their glory at the dedicated website: www.yamaha-racing.com/yzf-r1-gytr

Each unit proudly sports the Limited Edition number engraved on the top yoke and is shipped with a certificate of authenticity.

Each of the 20 available units is carefully assembled, tested and tuned with their new owner in mind. An Official Yamaha Racing Team crew will put together each one of a kind machine before performing a full dyno engine run-in and first oil change using premium Yamalube oil. These bikes will be fully fledged and ready to hit the track.

As well as getting to ride on one of racing’s most iconic designs and a machine that’s chomping at the bit to tear up the tarmac, those lucky racers who get their hands on the YZF-R1 ’20th Anniversary’ will also be invited to participate in the Yamaha Racing Experience in spring/summer 2019. All those involved will receive a dedicated YZF-R1 GYTR set up session that will fine tune their unique beast even further, so they can squeeze every millisecond of race pace out of these one off motorcycles.

To be in with a chance to own one of the twenty units available, due to be delivered from mid-March 2019, head here quickly, send your application and you might be one of the lucky few to conquer the track with this unique Superbike!

New 2019 NIKEN GT to expand the Sport Touring Segment

Opening the Roads of Life to every rider
Yamaha has always been committed to creating innovative and exciting designs that give the best possible choice. More than anything, motorcycling is about freedom, and Yamaha’s goal is to make bikes that are ready to take motorcyclists to new places and make lasting memories on the Roads of Life.
With the addition of the NIKEN to the Sport Touring segment, Yamaha now has very distinctive and clearly defined model groups within this category – namely the NIKEN, Tracer and FJR1300 models. This diversity puts the company in the unique position of being able to offer the ultimate selection of 3-wheel and 2-wheel motorcycles that can satisfy every customer’s need.
Yamaha is totally dedicated to making Sport Touring motorcycles more accessible to everyone with a 2019 line up that is wider than ever before. From the very affordable Tracer 700 and new Tracer 700GT, right through to the exclusive high end NIKEN GT, Yamaha has the power to open the Roads of Life to every rider.
NIKEN: Ultimate corner carving experience
In 2018 the launch of the radical NIKEN 3-wheel motorcycle brought a whole new riding experience to the motorcycle world.
Equipped with innovative Leaning Multi-Wheel technology and dual tube upside down forks, the NIKEN is built to deliver the most amazing corner carving experience together with higher rider confidence in all conditions. With a larger contact patch between the tyres and the road surface, the two leaning front wheels give increased levels of front end grip that is particularly noticeable during cornering and braking, and it is this unique and dynamic characteristic of the NIKEN that makes it feel and handle like no other motorcycle.
Feedback from the public who have participated in the 2018 NIKEN Demo Tours across Europe has confirmed that this ground-breaking motorcycle is already winning over many motorcyclists who – quite understandably – initially viewed the whole 3-wheel concept with a degree of caution.
Those riders who have had a chance to evaluate this high specification 3-wheel Sport Tourer confirm its remarkable ability to corner with increased confidence even in adverse weather conditions, with many potential customers confirming that the NIKEN’s handling has genuinely brought a new dimension to the Sport Touring segment.
The key to understanding the attraction of NIKEN is to ride it, and with the model now arriving at Yamaha dealers, those who have been unable to attend the European NIKEN Demo Tour can discover the unique 3-wheel riding experience for themselves.
When it comes to new or unfamiliar technology, many people – including motorcyclists – can often resist change and stick to what they know. But the NIKEN has shown that riding is believing, and with its proven ability to deliver the most exciting corner carving experience, this unique motorcycle is introducing a new era in Sport Touring design.
New NIKEN GT: Turns have no seasons
The NIKEN’s 3-wheel concept has won over the vast majority of riders who have taken the time to open their minds and try something new. Designed to master adverse conditions, the NIKEN is ideally suited to all-weather, 4-season riding on the most challenging mountain roads.
Fitted with a range of special equipment, the new NIKEN GT brings added functionality to the 3-wheel concept by offering increased long distance touring capabilities together with elevated levels of rider and passenger comfort.
The NIKEN GT’s higher screen gives greater upper body protection from the wind and weather, and the specially designed comfort seat enhances the sport touring experience for both the rider and passenger. Premium quality 25-litre ABS semi-soft side cases are light, compact and easy to handle – and for added convenience the rear of the carrier base features integrated passenger grips.
Heated grips ensure riding comfort in all weather conditions and keep the rider informed of the warmth level on the instrument panel – and there’s also an extra 12-V outlet to power or charge various devices. The GT model also comes fitted with a main stand that facilitates convenient parking as well as routine chain maintenance and tyre inspections on longer trips.
With its innovative 3-wheel design and radically styled bodywork, the NIKEN is always going to be the centre of attention wherever it travels – and for added exclusivity the new NIKEN GT is offered in two new model-specific colours – Nimbus Grey with black front forks, and Phantom Blue with gold front forks.

Presenting 3CT: A new Urban Mobility prototype

Preparing for the future, now
Europe has one of the highest levels of urbanisation in the world, with nearly three quarters of the population living in towns and cities, and this equates to around 550 million European citizens who need access to an affordable, reliable and accessible mode of transport. This number is forecast to grow significantly as more people are attracted by the many advantages of urban life, and the increase in congestion will require a dramatic change in the transport choices that are made.

Yamaha Urban Mobility
Yamaha’s Urban Mobility vehicles offer an accessible personal transport solution for anyone who is looking for a user-friendly commuting solution – regardless of their age, gender or riding experience. The company’s goal is to build attractive, easy and accessible vehicles that give everyone the freedom to move, and enrich every aspect of urban life – while offering value for money together with Yamaha quality and reliability.

In 2015 Yamaha decided to expand the Urban Mobility traditional scooter range, launching the innovative Tricity 125. This move is now powering the daily commuting of over 22,000 customers riding urban areas as Paris, Milan or Rome. With its innovative lightweight 3-wheel design that gives increased control in different weather and surface conditions, the easy to ride Yamaha Tricity has succeeded in attracting a new generation of customers to the Urban Mobility segment.

Yamaha’s leading 3-wheel technology: The next step
Many of these new customers who have been converted to the 3-wheel scooter concept in recent years are now looking to step up to a larger 3-wheel model that would offer increased performance and on-board comfort while retaining the easy-to-use character of the Tricity.

In general terms these are the riders that are looking for an innovative solution to commuting but with extra stability and so Yamaha is looking towards the next phase in its comprehensive 3-wheel vehicle development programme – presenting the 3CT prototype that is seen for the first time at the EICMA Show.

This prototype confirms that Yamaha’s future design direction will maintain the successful formula already proven by the Tricity, with ease of use and lightness being amongst the key goals, along with increased performance for higher speeds, and increased dynamism. This will give it the ability to operate over a wider range, enabling longer distance commuting into the city while retaining the agility of the Tricity in traffic.

Innovative Tilt Lock Assist
To increase the riding comfort in the traffic stop and go, the 3CT is equipped with a Tilt Lock Assist system that supports the rider at a stop while the scooter remains upright. This new Tilt Lock Assist has an innovative design that does not lock the front suspension, keeping the vehicle smooth in stop and go operation as well as being able to move it on foot at parking locations.

Fun, fashionable and a fresh new style
As a perfect combination of Yamaha DNA and Tricity family feeling, the 3CT’s dynamic bodywork has an innovative new colour treatment that features a patchwork of randomly shaped ‘jigsaw’ pieces consisting of numerous different striped patterns that create a distinctive urban-camo look that’s unlike anything else. To contrast the eye-catching and original bodywork, the wheels and chassis are predominantly grey with electric blue highlights, accentuating the 3CT’s fresh avant-garde looks and giving a coordinated look.

3D printed seat with LED lights
The chic 3CT prototype is full of cool surprises and original design features, including a 3D printed seat – the first time this technology has been featured on a Yamaha chassis.

Best in class 300cc engine
The driving force that makes the 3CT prototype such a strong performer both in the city and on the highway is the new Blue Core 300cc engine, which has been one of the key elements that has contributed to making the XMAX 300 the best-selling sport scooter in Europe.

Yamaha 3CT prototype: Because we all need to Move.Live.Love.
Designed using the knowledge gained from the company’s 3-wheel Tricity as well as the leading Sport Scooters – and featuring the most sophisticated leaning multi-wheel technology with innovative Tilt Lock Assist – the Yamaha 3CT prototype demonstrates what the future holds.
Wherever and whenever, the 3CT has the potential to give everybody the ultimate freedom to Move.Live.Love.

New Ténéré 700: The Next Horizon is Yours

The Ténéré story: where it all began

The Ténéré can trace its roots back to the launch of XT500 enduro-adventure bike in 1976. With its strong torque and compact chassis, this versatile single cylinder 4-stroke became an instant success. In many countries throughout Europe the XT500 was Yamaha’s best-selling model during the late 1970s – with over 60,000 sold in France alone during its 14 year production run.

Its go-anywhere ability, rugged design and outstanding reliability opened up a new world of adventure to many motorcycle riders – and these same qualities made it the ideal choice for competitors in the first Paris-Dakar Rally that was won by Frenchman Cyril Neveu on a Yamaha XT500.

Quickly establishing a reputation as the toughest desert rally bike, the XT500 became the default model for adventure seeking riders and rally racers alike, and today it is considered to be one of the most significant and iconic motorcycles of the late 20th century, with active owners clubs throughout the world.

By the end of the 1970s the XT had achieved legendary status amongst Europe’s riders, and in 1983 Yamaha introduced the XT600Z that became the company’s first Adventure bike to carry the Ténéré name – a Tuareg word meaning ‘desert’ or ‘wilderness’.

At this time the Ténéré line-up was constantly evolving and growing, and the end of the 1980s saw the introduction of the 2-cylinder XTZ750 Super Ténéré, followed in the early 1990s by the single cylinder XTZ660 Ténéré. During this period the Yamaha Adventure range went on to win many more Dakar Rally events – with Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel claiming 6 victories on his XTZ750-based factory Yamaha in the 1990s.

Today’s Yamaha Adventure range features the sophisticated XT1200Z and XT1200ZE Super Ténéré models that were introduced in 2010, as well as the exclusive high specification XT1200ZE Raid Edition.

Ténéré 700 World Raid: Tested to the extreme
The first sign that Yamaha was developing a new Adventure bike came with the launch of the T7 concept in 2016. Displayed at motorcycle shows all over the world, it created immense interest and gave riders a taste of what was to come – and in 2017 Yamaha introduced the Ténéré 700 World Raid prototype that was one step closer to the final production specification.

Since 2017 the Ténéré 700 World Raid prototype has undergone an intensive world tour in various key locations all over the globe, and during this development phase the bike has been subjected to the most extreme testing in hostile terrain and severe climatic conditions.

Piloted by a team of professional riders including multi Dakar winner Stéphane Peterhansel and Official Yamalube Yamaha Rally Team riders such as Adrien van Beveren and Rodney Faggoter, the World Raid prototype has been pushed to its limits across the globe, from Australia’s unforgiving outback through to the brutal South American deserts.

At the same time as putting thousands of hours on the development bikes, the Ténéré 700 World Raid programme has also showcased the design to many hundreds of local riders who have been invited to give Yamaha their valuable input and help shape the final production model.

All-new Ténéré 700: The lightweight go-anywhere Adventure bike
With a spirit of adventure embedded within its DNA, every Yamaha Adventure bike is rugged, tough and reliable. Each Ténéré model in the Adventure segment will open up the possibilities of endless travel, and enable its rider to discover a feeling of utter freedom. The only limit is within rider’s imagination. The Next Horizon is Yours.

Yamaha’s in-depth off road expertise and outstanding track record are beyond doubt. Now the time has come to re-establish Yamaha as a leading force in the Adventure segment with the introduction of the all-new Ténéré 700 – a lightweight no compromise Adventure model with one of the highest specifications in its class, and one of the most exciting and significant new Adventure models to be launched for many years.

Equipped with the successful CP2 698cc parallel-twin engine and a completely new chassis, the Ténéré 700 is designed to deliver class-leading handling and agility in the dirt – combined with high speed long distance performance on the road – making it an extremely capable and versatile Adventure bike.

Ténéré 700 model overview
• Rally-bred T7-inspired dual sport design with pure Ténéré DNA
• Light, compact, nimble
• Outstanding off road performance
• Year-round on road capabilities
• Go-anywhere long distance potential, 350km+ fuel range
• Powerful, smooth and economical high-torque engine
• Switchable ABS option for off road riding
• Effective screen and hand guards for excellent weather protection
• State of the art long-travel suspension
• Available in 3 colour variations

689cc, 4-stroke, CP2 engine with Adventure settings
Yamaha has revolutionised the motorcycle world with the development of the crossplane philosophy engines that power a range of the company’s best-selling models and the new Ténéré 700 is equipped with the highly respected 689cc parallel-twin engine.

The key characteristic of this compact CP2 engine is its strong and linear torque output that gives instant throttle response together with outstanding acceleration – attributes that make it a capable and versatile performer on and off the road. Producing maximum torque at 6,500rpm, this engine offers the ideal balance of performance and controllability – and with its excellent fuel economy, it contributes towards the Ténéré 700’s ability to cover long distances between fuel stops.

To cater for the unique requirements of Adventure riders, the final transmission is optimised, and together with a range of model-specific fuel injection settings, these features contribute towards the bike’s outstanding versatility and remarkable performance in different riding environments.

New lightweight double cradle tubular steel frame
During the development of the Ténéré 700 one of the key goals was to achieve a slim, agile and light feeling chassis that would be equally suited to both road and off road riding. To satisfy these requirements Yamaha’s designers have developed an all-new lightweight double cradle tubular steel frame that combines a low weight with immense strength, making it ideally suited a variety of riding conditions.

Featuring a compact 1,590mm wheelbase and a slim body, this rugged chassis delivers responsive handling characteristics, and with 240mm of ground clearance the Ténéré 700 is designed to keep its rider out of trouble over the roughest terrain.

Slim, compact and ergonomic body and seat
The ability to shift your body weight forwards and rearwards to suit the terrain ahead is crucial when you want to maintain full control in off road riding situations, and so the Ténéré 700 is equipped with a flat 880mm high seat and slim body that allows maximum rider agility. The compact bodywork and narrow fuel tank also enable you to grip the tank with the knees whether sitting or standing, giving added confidence and control in every situation, whether you’re riding on dirt or asphalt.

Aggressive rally-bred face with four LED headlights
The new Ténéré 700 is equipped with a distinctive looking headlight assembly that is a direct spin off from Yamaha’s latest factory Rally bikes and the T7 concept machine. A total of four LED headlights project powerful beams of light that can light up the darkest wilderness. Stacked in a 2 + 2 layout and protected by a clear nacelle – and with two LED position lights at the base – this strong face gives a purposeful look that matches this new Adventure bike’s imposing character.

Adjustable long-travel 43mm upside down forks
When you’re riding in the dirt you need the best possible suspension systems, and the Ténéré 700’s long travel forks are undeniable evidence that this is a serious Adventure bike with class-leading off road capabilities. The flex resistant 43mm forks stay in shape over the most extreme terrain to give precision steering and smooth suspension action – and with 210mm of suspension travel, this high specification front end enables you to attack the most challenging off road terrain with confidence.

Offering full damping adjustment, these rally-specification front forks ensure high levels of comfort with lightweight handling performance when you’re on the road, making the Ténéré 700 one of the most capable and enjoyable long distance tourers.

Remotely adjustable rear shock absorber
The Ténéré 700 is equipped with a rally-bred link-type rear suspension system that gives smooth and progressive action for maximum riding comfort and enhanced levels of control.

Featuring a lightweight aluminium swingarm for low unsprung weight, this high specification rear end offers 200mm of travel which, like the front suspension system, is designed to be able to handle the most severe off road riding conditions as well as giving a comfortable ride on the road. Another significant feature is the remote adjuster that lets you fine tune the preload settings while you’re on the go, making it quick and easy to dial in the shock to suit the riding conditions.

Rally style cockpit with tapered handlebars
Sitting on the new Ténéré 700 with the rally-bred cockpit in front of you, you’ll absorb the pure Dakar character of this new generation Adventure bike, and be inspired to get out there and explore. The compact rally screen and nose fairing give you excellent protection from the wind while maintaining the slim and lightweight character of the bike, and the competition type tapered handlebars give a relaxed riding position whether you’re seated or standing.

21-inch front & 18-inch rear spoked wheels
Just like the high specification front and rear suspension, the spoked wheels clearly demonstrate that this bike is built for serious off road riding. With their ability to efficiently absorb the continuous impacts experienced when riding in rough terrain, these lightweight wheels work with the long travel suspension to give you optimum handling performance and control.

Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres are fitted as original equipment, and because the Ténéré 700 features a competition type 21-inch front wheel/18-inch rear wheel combination, you have the possibility to fit a wide choice of tyres to suit your own requirements – ranging from a pure enduro pattern for predominantly off road use, through to dual sport pattern tyres for year round on/off road versatility.

Slim long-range fuel tank with 16-litre capacity
Throughout the development of this new generation Adventure bike, Yamaha’s key goal was to ensure that the Ténéré 700 would deliver class leading off road performance together with outstanding on-road abilities and offer a genuine long range potential.

The slim design of the fuel tank belies its 16-litre capacity, and its narrow rear section offers plenty of rider mobility and excellent knee grip. Whether you’re sitting down or standing up, the compact dimensions of this long-range fuel tank enable you to shift your weight around effortlessly – and thanks to the excellent economy of the 2-cylinder engine, 16-litres of fuel will give a potential riding range of over 350km which gives the new Ténéré 700 a high level of year-round all-terrain versatility.

Compact rally style multi-function instruments
Another example of how the new Ténéré 700 has been developed using rally-bred technology can be seen with the compact rally style instruments. Located centrally behind the screen for great visibility, this lightweight instrument panel displays a wide range of information that can be absorbed without having to take your eyes off the road or track. The multi-function LCD display features comprehensive information including gear position, fuel level, two trip meters and estimated fuel range, as well as average and instant fuel consumption and more.

The cockpit is designed to accommodate the fitment of aftermarket navigation devices, enabling you to add extra equipment to suit your own requirements, including GPS, road book readers and smart phones.

Switchable ABS for easy adjustment
The braking system consists of dual 282mm wave front discs and a 245mm wave rear disc that gives high levels of stopping power with plenty of feel at all speeds on the highway or in the dirt.

When you’re riding off road you have the option to temporarily disable the ABS whenever required by activating the kill switch while stationary. With the ABS turned off you can take full manual control, and in particular you can choose to lock the rear wheel deliberately in certain situations – such as very tight turns or on steep descents.

Good rider protection
On long journeys the screen and front cowl give good protection from the wind and weather, and because of the bike’s slim and compact body you are able to tuck in tightly to the chassis and keep out of the main airflow. As well deflecting wind and rain, the tough plastic handguards also help to prevent damage from rocks and stones kicked up by vehicles in front of you, and they offer added protection from branches and foliage when you’re in the wilderness. And if you do take a tumble in the dirt, they help to protect the levers and throttle from accidental damage.

New XSR700 XTribute: Yamaha’s retro Faster Sons scrambler

Born to be back again
Yamaha’s Sport Heritage models blend timeless design and cool retro looks with the very latest technology. From the 2-cylinder XSR700 through to the 3-cylinder XSR900 and the XV950 V-twins, this diverse line up is specifically designed to enable and encourage riders of all ages to customize their bike to suit their own needs and style.

By fusing iconic style with cutting edge engine and chassis design, Yamaha’s Faster Sons philosophy ensures that each bike in the Sport Heritage line has its own unique character and appeal – and this instils a special pride of ownership amongst the many riders who want a long term relationship with their motorcycle.

As soon as the XSR models were introduced they immediately caught the attention of Europe’s top customizers, and in recent years Yamaha has collaborated with more than 60 projects to build unique specials based on Sport Heritage models. With its light weight, agile handling and emotional torque feeling, the XSR700 has become a favourite with custom workshops and individual riders who want to build scrambler specials. For 2019 Yamaha will launch a new version of the XSR700 that mixes the passion and flavour of an earlier era with the customization trend of today.

New XSR700 XTribute: a modern homage to a 1970s icon
Over 40 years ago Yamaha introduced the XT500, an air-cooled 4-stroke single that went on to become one of Europe’s best-loved motorcycles. The key to its success was simple design, useable power and all round versatility, and with its XT-inspired colours and classic scrambler looks, the new XSR700 XTribute respects the XT’s true character and pays homage to this iconic bike.

This special combination of timeless good looks and modern technology perfectly illustrates the true spirit of the Faster Sons philosophy, and with its unique specification the XSR700 XTribute gives a new generation of riders the chance to celebrate the past, while at the same time benefitting from the very latest technology and an outstanding riding experience.

Retro XT inspired ‘1981’ colours and graphics
From 1976 through to 1989 the XT500 was a major commercial success and sold in huge numbers all over Europe, and during its long production run this iconic model featured a number of bold and simple colour schemes. To celebrate the legendary status of the XT, Yamaha has chosen the most iconic silver tank, white mudguards and gold wheels for the new XSR700 XTribute – and even the indicators go back to the XT’s original orange finish.

The new colour is appropriately named ‘1981’ to celebrate the XT’s golden era, and devoted Yamaha fans will instantly recognize this modern interpretation of a revered design – which features an XSR700 logo that is inspired by the legendary XT500 design – while younger riders are sure to appreciate the timeless retro looks that give this Sport Heritage bike a unique appeal.

Off road handlebars and chunky footrests
As well as its XT colour scheme the XSR700 XTribute adopts dirt bike style tapered handlebars that reinforce the urban scrambler looks. As well as providing a comfortable and upright riding position, these wider handlebars give increased leverage, making the bike easy to manoeuvre at slow speeds. Other special features include the chunky off road style footrests that complement the rugged scrambler character.

Block pattern tyres
Block pattern tyres are fitted to the lightweight 10-spoke cast wheels to reinforce the aggressive urban scrambler looks of the XSR700 XTribute. For high levels of grip with easy handling characteristics on the street and dirt roads this Sport Heritage bike is fitted with Pirelli MT60RS tyres – 180/55-17 rear and 120/70-217 front.

Special flat seat and fork gaiters
Yamaha has developed a unique new seat for the XSR700 XTribute featuring a flat profile that respects the design of the original XT. Offering a modern, high quality finish and featuring a subtle XTribute logo embossed on the rear, this seat contributes towards the bike’s characterful mix of old and new.

Every Yamaha Sport Heritage bike is designed with close attention to every detail – and the same is true on the XSR700 XTribute. Black rubber gaiters are fitted to the front forks to underline the whole retro feel, and the top of the fork tubes are enclosed within black plastic covers to give a clean and understated look to the front end.

Classic scrambler cool with modern technology
The real beauty of the XSR700 XTribute is the way that is combines effortless scrambler cool with modern technology. With its black engine, frame and forks set against the retro colours of the silver fuel tank, gold wheels and white mudguards, the impression of simplicity is reinforced, making this bike a fitting tribute to the original XT500.

Yet at the same time as projecting a classic feel, this is very much a modern motorcycle equipped with the very latest technology. Its powerful engine and agile chassis deliver an exciting and thoroughly modern riding experience – and features such as the smaller LED tail light and LCD instruments contrast beautifully with the vintage colouring and finish. Classic and modern at the same time, the XSR700 XTribute gives the best of both worlds.

Black instruments, controls and radiator covers
The retro theme runs throughout this great looking urban scrambler, and includes special black faced digital instruments that are located in a different position to the standard XSR700. Lightweight black frame guards and radiator covers are featured – and the black theme extends right to through the handlebar control levers and instrument bracket to give an understated look that focuses the viewer’s attention on the strong retro ‘1981’ colours.

Strong performance
At the heart of the XSR700 XTribute is Yamaha’s outstandingly successful and highly regarded 689cc inline 2-cylinder engine whose crossplane philosophy design develops strong and linear torque. Delivering thrilling performance with excellent fuel economy, this is one of today’s most highly-regarded powerplants.

Light, compact and agile
Weighing in at just 186kg wet, the XSR700 XTribute is one of the lightest scramblers in the category. The steel backbone frame and compact chassis is one of the most agile and manoeuvrable designs in the class, making the XSR700 XTribute ideal for the city as well as giving an exciting ride on the open road.

Optional Akrapovič high-level black exhaust
Back in 1976 the very first XT500 featured a low header pipe with a high level muffler, and customers can replicate this look by fitting their XSR700 XTribute with the optional Akrapovič exhaust. With a black finish – like the original XT500 – this high specification 2-into-1 system gives a radical look and produces a gruff exhaust note – key features that complement the bike’s scrambler character and accentuate the premium specification of this new Faster Sons model.

Get Ready to Conquer the Track with the new 2019 YZF-R1 GYTR

Yamaha celebrates its 20th YZF-R1 Anniversary with a track ready GYTR specification YZF-R1 in victorious Suzuka 8 Hours livery

Yamaha R-Series motorcycles have lead the charge both on and off the track in terms of performance, technology and excitement for over two decades now. Whether it’s the rider friendly YZF-R3 or the boundary smashing YZF-R1M, there’s a Supersport model to match every rider. Now comes your chance to join with Yamaha and enter R-World in the most exciting way yet.

2018 saw the 20th anniversary of one the most iconic designs in motorcycle history, the Yamaha YZF-R1. This first 1998 model revolutionised superbike engineering. The engine size and position, the configuration of parts within the chassis and the chassis itself were all re-imagined. Yamaha have continued to use their industry defining superbike as a platform for innovation for two decades now, reaching unprecedented levels of excellence in the sport bike industry.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of their ground-breaking machine, three Yamaha Racing Teams entered the legendary Suzuka 8 Hours on YZF-R1’s sporting the vintage red and white livery of the original 1998 YZF-R1. On-board their special edition machines and wearing matching leathers, the Yamaha Factory Racing Team of Alex Lowes, Michael van der Mark and Katsuyuki Nakasuga delivered a heroic effort to secure a historic consecutive 4th victory in this prestigious endurance race.

Marking this momentous occasion and two decades of leading the way in superbike technology, Yamaha Motor Europe are proud to announce they will be releasing the limited edition, track ready 2019 YZF-R1 GYTR. Featuring the winning 20th Anniversary Suzuka 8 Hours livery including a wide range of GYTR® Performance Products – Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing – and other performance parts as standard. This exclusive racer also comes with a high performance Öhlins FGRT 219 front fork package, TTX36 GP rear shock and fully adjustable steering damper as well as a full titanium Akrapovič Evolution 2 exhaust system. And to protect the bike, there are protectors for crankcase and wheel axles by Gilles Tooling.

There will also be an optional addition of non-Yamaha racing parts, specially selected and installed by racing engineers of a partnering Official Yamaha Racing Team. They ensure each bike will be adorned with a full carbon race fairing in iconic Suzuka 8 Hours livery and after their assembly a dyno engine break-in and tailored chassis set-up is performed, so each individual will be fully ready to conquer the track. This is a machine for true racing fans.

Yamaha Motor Europe will be releasing twenty units of this exclusive machine, one for each year the YZF-R1 has been setting pace in the superbike world.
