2018 Yamaha Sport Scooters

Over 600,000 MAX scooters sold…and counting

Yamaha Sport scooters: MAX performance, comfort, and style

With over 600,000 sales since their launch, the MAX family of Sport scooters is Yamaha’s most successful range of models in the powered two-wheel market.

It all started back at the turn of the millennium when Yamaha created a whole new maxi scooter class with the first generation TMAX, and the MAX family has grown to include the recently upgraded XMAX 300, as well as the highly successful XMAX 400 and XMAX 125 models.

For 2018 Yamaha have succeeded in enhancing and upgrading the already excellent XMAX 300. This popular model now comes with the highest levels of fit and finishing that perfectly align it with the rest of the MAX family of premium Sport scooters.

2018 XMAX 300

Desire what you need
The recently introduced XMAX 300 will be supplied with an even higher quality finish that reconfirms its premium status. For 2018, Yamaha have focused attention on enhancing the overall quality of a number of specific components by refining various manufacturing processes, and XMAX 300 customers will experience an ever higher level of quality.
Yamaha believes that every customer is entitled to experience the very best when it comes to the XMAX range, because, as we say, “The MAX is never enough”.

New premium quality seat
The 2018 XMAX 300 is equipped with a new premium quality seat that matches the more refined finish seen throughout this sport scooter. An independent rider’s backrest gives good support for increased comfort, and the new two-tone finish and high quality detailing – including new emblems – make the latest XMAX 300 an even more attractive model that will inspire pride of ownership.

New white-on-black LCD instrument panel
The new-for-2018 instruments feature a black background with white numerals for the tachometer and speedometer, giving a clear, classy and easy to read display. Additional information is shown in the centre section, to keep the XMAX 300 rider informed at all times.

Powerful and efficient 300cc Blue Core engine
The XMAX’s 300cc new engine was designed by using Yamaha’s advanced Blue Core technology, whose fundamental aim is to achieve more power using less fuel. By analysing every aspect of the 4-stroke engine’s operation, including its fuel injection system, Yamaha engineers have been able to reduce power losses as well as increase fuel efficiency and achieve higher levels of performance.

Dynamic MAX design
The face of the XMAX 300 features dual slanted LED headlights with a central light that gives this sport scooter a strong and purposeful appearance and underline the model’s close family links with the TMAX. Running either side of the central tunnel, the characteristic ‘MAX family’ boomerang provides a strong visual link between the front and rear wheels – while the sharply upswept lines of the rear bodywork and taillight section emphasise the strong influence of the pure TMAX DNA.

Motorcycle type forks
The TMAX was the first high performance maxi scooter to use motorcycle style front forks, and the XMAX 300 is also equipped with a double clamp telescopic fork and twin rear shocks to ensure sporty motorcycle-like handling together with good high-speed stability.

Traction Control System (TCS)
The fitment of a Traction Control System (TCS) as standard underlines the advanced specification of this Sport Scooter. Using a number of sensors that temporarily reduce drive to the rear wheel when any loss of traction is detected, this electronic system provides rider confidence in wet or slippery conditions.

‘Smart Key’ keyless ignition
The latest technology is being used in the construction of the premium specification XMAX 300, including a Smart Key keyless ignition. Not only does it mean you don’t have to waste time trying to find which pocket you’ve put your keys in – this convenient system also shows how the MAX family of sport scooters is leading the way in terms of design and technology.

Full LED triple headlights and LED taillight
The XMAX 300’s high-tech looks with dynamic full LED twin-eye headlights give this sport scooter a modern and distinguished face that gets noticed wherever you go. Both headlights are illuminated on low beam, and the third central light also comes on when the high beam is switched on, giving the XMAX 300 a unique appearance. At the rear end the wraparound taillight also features LED bulbs as well as a new LED guide light, making the XMAX 300 highly visible to other road users, day and night.

Storage space for 2 full-face helmets – or a laptop plus more
XMAX 300 riders can be sure that this premium sport scooter has been designed to offer the highest levels of day-to-day functionality. Beneath the comfy dual seat is one of the largest storage compartments in its class, capable of holding 2 full-face helmets and more. Its extra wide dimensions can also accommodate a laptop or weekend bag – besides the helmets -making this an ideal weekday commuter as well as a most exciting weekend leisure vehicle.

Multi-function instruments with switch control & 12V outlet
The instrument panel features an analogue speedometer and tachometer giving clear and easy to understand information, and the large central LCD multi-function display makes all information easy to see.

For quick operation there’s a control switch on the handlebars that allows you to switch between functions while riding, without taking your hand off the handlebars – and to charge or power various devices, the XMAX 300 is equipped with a convenient 12V outlet located in the left glove-box.

15-inch front and 14-inch rear wheels for sports handling
The XMAX 300’s chassis has been developed to give a sporty ride together with lightweight agility. The choice of wheel and tyre sizes play a significant part in shaping any scooter’s handling characteristics and in order to achieve dynamic sports performance together with easy manoeuvrability in town, this sport 300 is equipped with a 15-inch front wheel and 14-inch rear. Braking power is supplied by a 267mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc, and ABS is fitted as standard.

XMAX 125 and XMAX 400 also available
In addition to the XMAX 300, the XMAX family of Sport Scooters also includes the XMAX 400 and XMAX 125. Each XMAX is manufactured to the same premium quality and high specification, and offers sports performance together with a high-class finish and stylish design.

Reset the rules of MAX
Having sold more than 250,000 units, the legendary TMAX is the most successful maxi scooter ever. It has held the number 1 position in its segment every year since 2001. This success has been reconfirmed all around Europe in 2017, and looks set to continue into 2018 with the TMAX DX and TMAX variants – each one of them built to deliver class leading engine and chassis performance, together with outstanding luxury.

TMAX DX and TMAX. Two iconic choices.
For 2018 Yamaha offer two exciting versions of the iconic high performance TMAX in the UK. The TMAX DX is for those who demand the ultimate in luxury, while the TMAX provides a blank canvas for those owners who want to make their own unique model using Yamaha Genuine accessories.

With its dual LED headlamps and bold position lamps, the TMAX has a powerful and iconic face design that is complemented by its sporty and dynamic body that features the MAX family’s boomerang side panels.

For sporty handling performance with high speed stability and sure footed cornering, this best-selling maxi scooter is equipped with a lightweight aluminium frame and motorcycle type forks. And with its sophisticated TFT instrument panel, as well as a large luggage compartment and a comprehensive specification that include traction control and ‘Smart Key’ keyless ignition, the TMAX is the most advanced and capable long distance sport scooter ever manufactured by Yamaha.

2018 Updated Yamaha YZF-R1M and Yamaha YZF-R1

Racing isn’t simply something Yamaha just does as an add-on to our core business. Racing is an integral part of Company DNA. And our 2018 Supersport line up – the widest in the motorcycle industry – bears witness to the fact that Yamaha was, is and always will be committed to the design and manufacture of exclusive, high quality, no-compromise Supersport motorcycles.

Yamaha’s rich history of Grand Prix competition spans six decades, and continues today with our awe-inspiring YZR-M1 Factory MotoGP bikes. And this race-led, race-bred philosophy gives Yamaha the ability, knowledge and determination to create exceptional machines like the YZF-R1M, YZF-R1, YZF-R6, YZF-R3, and YZF-R125.

2018 Yamaha YZF-R1M
Since its launch, the YZF-R1M quickly established itself as the ultimate YZF-R Series model, and today it is widely regarded as being one of the most advanced and capable track day bikes. During 2017 the YZF-R1M was the clear winner in multiple shoot-out tests carried out by the specialist press in Europe, attracting widespread praise for its outstanding engine performance and precision handling, as well as its seamless electronic control systems and the industry leading YRC rider interface.

The 2018 YZF-R1M claims to be the most advanced production motorcycle ever produced by Yamaha. Featuring a crossplane engine and a wide range of sophisticated electronic control technology developed directly from the YZR-M1 Factory MotoGP race bikes, the YZF-R1M gives the high-demanding racer and track day rider the chance to realise his or her full potential.

The crossplane engine’s uneven 270° – 180° – 90° – 180° firing sequence gives each piston and con rod its own individual and separate movement to create a stronger low to mid range pulse – and this race-bred engine is also characterised by its exceptional exhaust growl. The electronics meanwhile work in the background to provide the rider seamless support to harness the power and achieve better lap times in any conditions.

Revised Öhlins Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS)
The YZF-R1M’s exclusive Öhlins Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS) is the most advanced system in the Supersport class, and gives the rider a real advantage by adapting automatically and seamlessly to track conditions. This is done by instantly analysing data from the bike’s 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), and constantly and seamlessly making fine adjustments to the fork and shock settings.

For 2018 the YZF-R1M is equipped with the latest Smart EC 2 ERS that is the most sophisticated system ever developed byÖhlins for a production motorcycle. This new system offers increased intelligence for even more precise suspension dynamics while attacking the track, especially with the new brake support, acceleration support and corner support functions.

ERS prevents fork dive and minimises squat – and by using the YRC, the behaviour and characteristics of the ERS during braking, acceleration and cornering can be set up separately and individually. In addition, instead of setting compression and rebound as previously, now the rider can simply choose to select front and rear ‘firmness’ and the suspension will be adjusted accordingly.

With manual and automatic ERS adjustment options to choose from, the rider is able to dial the YZF-R1M in to achieve improved traction and stability during braking, acceleration and cornering. Together with the use of an updated tyre compound, the latest ERS gives improved front-end grip on this outstanding track bike that is already known for its razor sharp precision.

Updated Quick Shift System (QSS)
The 2018 YZF-R1M is equipped with an even more sophisticated Quickshift System that is designed to ensure reliable and quick gearshifts without engaging the clutch.

While the 2017 YZF-R1M was already equipped with a QSS for seamless full throttle upshifts, the 2018 model benefits from an improved QSS that now also features a downshifting system.

This gives the YZF-R1M rider a significant advantage when changing down, because it not only helps to save fractions of a second on every lap, but also reduces the physical and mental input required by the rider during downshifting, and enables them to concentrate completely on entering the fast approaching corner.

YZF-R1M riders can also adjust the QSS settings and create their preferred settings using the Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) function on the full colour TFT instruments. The YRC offers a choice of two upshift settings: mode 1 being the fastest for performance riding, and mode 2 being smoother – and both the upshift and downshift functions can be turned on or off as required.

This adjustable QSS allows YZF-R1M riders to set the shift system up to match their own riding style and track conditions – and to keep the rider fully informed, the selected mode is displayed on the TFT display.

New ECU mapping and improved LIF
In order to maintain optimal performance when accelerating hard, the YZF-R1M benefits from revised ECU mapping that enables the use of the new downshift mode on the Quickshift System.

Along with the revised ECU mapping, LIF has also been upgraded to become a more sophisticated system that closely monitors and regulates the power output when the IMU detects a sudden or strong elevation of the front wheel. By doing so it ensures improved control under acceleration, and enables the rider to concentrate fully on the track ahead, without the distraction created by unwanted front-end lift.

Lightweight carbon fairing with new finish
One of the many exclusive features on the YZF-R1M is its carbon fairing, and in order to underline the bike’s exclusivity, the graphics have been revised for 2018 so that more of this ultra-light material is visible on the fairing panels.

2018 Ténéré 700 World Raid Prototype and New XT1200ZE Super Ténéré Raid Edition

Commitment to Adventure

Having pioneered the development of rugged, lightweight dual-purpose motorcycles back in the 1970s, Yamaha has always had a close relationship with the Adventure segment.

Developed from the legendary Dakar Rally winning race bikes, models like the original Yamaha XT600Z Ténéré opened up the possibilities of long distance exploration to every rider. With their durable designs, long range fuel tanks and unrivalled reliability, the first generation Ténéré models became Yamaha’s best-selling motorcycles in Europe, and helped to ignite worldwide interest in a whole new movement.

Following the outstanding success of the original air-cooled adventure bikes, the Yamaha Adventure line up continued with models like the XTZ750 Super Ténéré, as well as the XTZ660 Ténéré – both of which became recognised as the definitive adventure bikes of choice for long distance riders who wanted performance, quality, durability and reliability.

The original Ténéré spirit has never gone away, and Yamaha’s commitment to the Adventure world remains as strong as ever.

Since the T7 broke cover a year ago, it has experienced unprecedented levels of attention all over the world. Wherever the bike has been displayed, there have been crowds of eager riders waiting to see it and touch it. Videos of the T7 concept have attracted millions of views, and journalists have been lining up to get a feel of this new generation adventure bike.

Those riders that have been offered a chance to test the T7 have been extremely impressed with its strong torque and lightweight agility, and these highly complementary press reports – supported by a number of action-packed journalist videos – have reinforced the intense interest in this new Adventure bike.

Ténéré 700 World Raid prototype. Chasing the Next Horizon

Inspired by the remarkable levels of worldwide interest generated by the T7 concept – together with the positive feedback and encouraging reviews from those who have ridden it – Yamaha has created Ténéré 700 World Raid, a prototype model which is being used to develop the final specification of the production model.

Featuring the rugged rally-inspired character of the original T7 concept bike, and developed using the information gained from intensive testing of the T7 during 2017, this lightweight adventure bike is unlike anything else on offer in the market place.

In contrast to many models available today from other brands, the Ténéré 700 World Raid’s low weight and slim chassis give excellent off road performance for more extreme riding in a wide variety of terrain – and its compact 689cc, CP2 engine delivers a wide band of tractable and easy to use power that make it ideal for on and off road adventure riding.

This motorcycle knows no bounds, and is designed for riders with an active attitude who yearn for the feeling of total freedom associated with adventures on two wheels. Designed with Yamaha’s rally winning DNA, the motorcycle that captures the genuine Ténéré spirit is just over the next horizon.

Ténéré 700 World Raid. The real spirit of adventure

At the very heart of the Ténéré 700 World Raid prototype is the same highly acclaimed 689cc, 2-cylinder crossplane engine that has been used in the best-selling MT-07.

With its compact design and linear torque delivery, this specially developed version of our highly acclaimed CP2 engine gives plenty of power for strong performance on the tarmac and dirt, while its mass centralised layout and low weight contributes towards the bike’s agile handling characteristics. The prototype also features a custom-made rally-style Akrapovič exhaust that reinforces the bike’s rugged looks and delivers a deep and powerful tone.

The steel chassis has been reworked and improved in key areas in order to achieve optimised on road and off road handling, and features capable upside down front forks and a monoshock rear that are designed to perform well in all conditions.

The Ténéré 700 World Raid features the same rugged looking rally bike silhouette as the T7, with a number of fine tunings such as a lower seat height, that make the future production model accessible to a wide range of adventure riders.

The fuel tank has been developed to give a useful range between refills, while at the same offering excellent ergonomics and contributing towards the machine’s low weight.

Carbon is used for the side panels, front fender and the one-piece rear tail, and the cowl is equipped with a Dakar Rally machine inspired 4-projector headlight assembly.

The cockpit area is designed to accommodate additional equipment such as navigation devices, and this exciting adventure bike features the T7-inspired colour scheme, with Racing Blue and carbon fibre bodywork.

2018 Ténéré 700 World Raid

2018 New Yamaha Tracer 900 and Tracer 900GT

New Tracer 900 and Tracer 900GT join the Yamaha Sport Touring Range

Creating tomorrow’s memories on the roads of life

The industry’s most diverse Sport Touring range
Yamaha go into 2018 with a stronger Sport Touring line up than ever, offering a total of six models that represent a truly diverse choice – and designed to appeal to a wide range of riders who are looking to enjoy the many new experiences, places and people that they’ll discover by travelling on the Roads of Life.

Since the introduction of the Tracer 900 for the 2015 model year, Europe’s Sport Touring segment has enjoyed significant growth. Attracted by the outstanding performance and all-round versatility of models like the Tracer 900, many riders have migrated from other categories to the Sport Touring segment.

The more recent introduction of the affordable Tracer 700 has given the class another major boost by attracting a whole new generation of younger riders, and today the Sport Touring segment has become one of the most dynamic and important parts of the marketplace for Yamaha.

The FJR1300A/AE/AS models continue to satisfy the demands of those experienced Sport Touring riders who appreciate their solid reputation combined with unrivalled Yamaha reliability.

2018 sees the introduction of major upgrades for the best-selling Tracer 900 that are designed to build on its strengths as one of today’s most versatile and exciting all-rounders, and which is now available in 2 variations.

2018 Tracer 900 and Tracer 900GT

Turn up your emotions
Launched three years ago, the Tracer 900 has quickly become established as the definitive Sport Tourer in the fast growing sub-1000cc class. With its thrilling sports performance, agile handling and the ability to handle long distances with ease, the stylish Tracer 900 has become one of Yamaha’s best-selling models with over 35,000 units sold.

If there’s one key element that accounts for its widespread success, it’s the fact that this beautifully styled motorcycle is one of those rare models that has the ability to excel in almost any role, from long distance touring through to sport riding and day-to-day commuting. Powered by Yamaha’s much loved 847cc, CP3 engine whose strong linear torque makes the Tracer 900 so enjoyable to ride, this truly versatile model represents the true spirit of motorcycling.

2018 Tracer 900. Taken to a higher level
For 2018 Yamaha’s team of designers have concentrated on reinforcing the much loved strengths and values of the Tracer 900, while also introducing a range of updates and changes that are aimed at enhancing the bike’s touring potential – as well as delivering an even more refined, high quality product.

Improved wind protection and refined body style
There’s a larger windscreen that offers better upper body weather protection for a more relaxing and enjoyable ride on longer journeys – and with its manual height adjustment facility, it can be quickly set to the desired position. For enhanced passenger comfort the 2018 model also features a revised passenger footrest assembly together with the newly designed grab bars.

Yamaha’s designers have also made subtle but efficient revisions to all of the body panels and covers in order to improve the overall look, feel and quality of the 2018 model. A new air intake area on the front cowl gives a more refined appearance, and the design of the fuel tank’s side panels and side wings are also revised to enhance the overall style.

Revised rear geometry for improved touring characteristics
For 2018 the Tracer 900 is equipped with a newly designed aluminium swingarm as well as revised rear shock settings to further enhance the bike’s touring performance, allowing the installation of Genuine hard side cases.

Increased rider and passenger comfort
Both the rider and passenger seats are new for 2018, and as well as giving higher levels of comfort, they also enhance the premium look and feel of the new Tracer 900. The rider’s seat can be adapted for height in 2 positions, high and low, to accommodate your personal riding style. Plus, there’s a soft pad on the tank for added rider comfort on longer journeys.

The Tracer 900 also benefits from narrower handlebars together with slimmer and lighter hand guards. The new layout gives a more natural riding position for added comfort, and the new handlebars help to keep the rider’s arms out of the airflow at higher speeds – and the reduced width also helps to improve the bike’s lane filtering abilities – where it’s permitted.

2018 New Yamaha MT-07 and MT-09 SP

Yamaha’s distinctive Hyper Naked models have made an indelible impression on the world of motorcycling since the first MT-09 was revealed to a captivated audience in late 2013. Inspired by a radical new wave of creativity coming out of the alternative biking culture in the Dark Side of Japan, the ground breaking MT-09 brought a whole new fun riding experience to the naked category.

A true success story, over 150,000 MT motorcycles sold
Today’s Yamaha Hyper Naked range includes MT models from 125cc through to 1000cc, giving every rider the chance to experience the thrilling torque riding emotion and distinctive streetwise looks inspired by the creative forces emanating from the Dark Side of Japan.

With sales of more than 48,000 units between 2013 and 2017, the MT-09 is one of Yamaha’s best selling large-capacity models in Europe, where it is widely regarded as the definitive naked sports bike. As well as selling in record numbers, this Hyper Naked all rounder has also earned the total respect of the press and public, having won a range of prestigious awards from the motorcycle industry’s leading consumer publications.

Since its 2014 launch, the MT-07 has become one of Yamaha’s most successful motorcycles of all time, with 80,000 new units purchased in just 4 years, making it Yamaha’s best selling over 125cc model. In fact, the MT-07 accounted for 36% of all sales in its category in 2016, underlining its position as the definitive all round motorcycle.

Along with the MT-125, MT-03 and MT-10, the MT Family has proved to be an outstanding success for Yamaha, and between 2013 and 2017 over 150,000 customers have chosen an MT as their new motorcycle.

New MT-09 SP. Challenge the Darkness

The MT range is constantly evolving and moving ahead in the never-ending quest to give every motorcyclist the opportunity to get the most out of every ride. Coming just one year after the launch of the new MT-09 – that has been a huge sales success in its first season – the Hyper Naked segment will be further strengthened by the launch of the new MT-09 SP.

The SP suffix is reserved for a small number of exclusive Yamaha models including the MT-10 SP that offer a premium specification with an emphasis on sport performance. Featuring a high standard specification that includes Öhlins equipment as well as dedicated colouring and unique finishing, the radical new MT-09 SP builds on the significant strengths of the MT brand, and takes the Hyper Naked riding experience to a new extreme.

New Öhlins remotely adjustable rear shock
Öhlins and Yamaha have been working closely together on a range of projects for many years, and the two brands have much in common. Each company shares a total commitment to performance, and both brands are recognised as being the leading innovators in their own respective fields.

In order to give Hyper Naked riders even greater possibilities to explore the outstanding performance of the 3-cylinder torque-rich crossplane engine, Yamaha’s designers have specified an Öhlins rear shock absorber for the new MT-09 SP. This premium rear suspension system offers higher levels of adjustability via an easily accessible remote adjuster, allowing riders to fine tune their settings and achieve class-leading handling performance and enhanced controllability.

MT-09 SP owners also have the possibility to fine-tune their suspension set up with a range of optional Öhlins rear springs that are available in a range of different rates from the Genuine Yamaha accessories line-up. By fitting an optional rear spring that matches their riding style and weight, every owner can create their ultimate suspension system.

Newadjustable front forks
Both the MT-09 and MT-09 SP are fitted with Kayaba front forks. The standard MT-09 has adjustable front forks where one leg is for rebound and the other is for compression. The MT-09 SP has adjustable front forks where both legs can be adjusted for rebound and compression damping, and this difference allows more fine-tuning of the front suspension settings.

Special MT-10 SP style colour scheme
To complement its premium specification, the MT-09 SP is finished in an exclusive Silver Blu Carbon colour scheme that matches the design featured on the MT-10 SP.

The fuel tank features silver sides with blue upper sections, and has a stylish MT-09 SP water transfer graphic on each side, as well as a 3D Yamaha tuning fork logo. The headlight cowl and seat cowl are painted silver, while the front fender has a blue/black finish with SP graphics.

To complete the exclusive SP look the lightweight 10-spoke wheels are finished in blue – just like the MT-10 SP – and the wheels feature MT-09 SP graphics. The SP theme is continued in the seat, which features distinctive blue stitching that complements the tank and wheels.

Black handlebars, levers and crown
The high quality feel and exclusive looks of the MT-09 SP are complemented by the use of black handlebars, black control levers and a black handlebar crown.

Special LCD instrument panel
Unlike most other bikes in the class, the MT-09 SP’s special LCD instrument panel displays white information against a black background, giving higher levels of clarity during daytime riding. As well as its practical advantages, this high quality panel refines this class-leading motorcycle’s impressive appearance.

Yamaha MT-07. Dark Attraction

The MT-07 is one of Yamaha’s most successful motorcycles of all time, with over 90,000 new units purchased in just 4 years.

With its characterful and torquey crossplane engine, compact chassis, low weight and agile handling, the Yamaha MT-07 is one of the few motorcycles that appeals to all kinds of riders. Male and female owners of all ages and with varying levels of experience have come to love and appreciate the multi-faceted character of this best-selling Hyper Naked – and with a 35kW version also available, the MT-07 is extremely popular with riders who hold an A2 licence.

All new body design for 2018
The MT Hyper Naked models are subject to an on-going development programme, and for 2018 Yamaha’s designers have created an all-new body for this best selling model that enhances its appearance and also gives an improved feeling of quality.

The new MT-07’s more mature body design retains the fundamental character of the previous model, and blends it with new elements that have been inspired by the MT-09 – such as the bolder headlight that gives a more imposing face.

A newly designed fuel tank and MT-09 style ‘air intakes’ give a sharper image and reinforce the MT family look, while a new seat and separate black sidepanels accentuate the mass-forward design.

Improved riding position
For 2018 the MT-07 is equipped with a completely new seat design that gives an improved riding position for riders of all sizes. The front of the new seat now extends to the sides of the rear of the fuel tank, giving increased comfort – and the new shape also gives the 2018 model a more integrated profile.

Refined front and rear suspension
With 130mm travel at both the front and rear, the MT-07’s suspension system is designed to give comfortable, progressive and predictable performance, making it ideal for a wide range of riding conditions.

For 2018 the front forks are equipped with revised settings that give a sportier character, while the rear suspension is fitted with a new rebound damping adjuster that enables riders to set their bike up to suit their riding style and usage.

CP2 crossplane engine with linear torque
One of the key features of the MT-07 is its CP2 crossplane engine that produces strong, linear torque, making it a joy to ride in a wide range of conditions.

The 2-cylinder engine’s 270-degree crank gives the MT-07 a pulsating driving force that sets this value for money middleweight apart from other models, and this unique facet of the bike’s character has helped to make the MT-07 the top selling motorcycle in its class.

2018 New Yamaha NIKEN

New Yamaha NIKEN: Ride the Revolution

Yamaha unveil the first ever 3-wheel leaning motorcycle

Yamaha is a company that thrives on creativity. Since Yamaha Motor was founded in July 1955, the Iwata-based company has been responsible for developing and introducing some of the most ground breaking and influential motorcycles and scooters that have gone on to change the landscape of the powered two-wheel market.

Innovation is the very lifeblood of the motorcycle business, and Yamaha is always looking to the future in the quest to develop original and exciting new technology and radical new concepts. The launch of the first ever 3-wheel leaning motorcycle demonstrates the company’s commitment to innovation, and is another example of how Yamaha ‘Revs Your Heart’ with its exciting and diverse range of models.

The world’s first multi wheel production motorcycle
At the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2015, Yamaha displayed the MWT-9 prototype, a 3-wheel concept motorcycle that gave a tantalising glimpse of the future.  Now, just two years later, Yamaha reveal the all-new NIKEN, the world’s first multi wheel production motorcycle that is ready to open up new possibilities for those forward thinking riders looking for a whole new experience.

Meaning ‘Two Swords’ in Japanese, the word NIKEN originates from 17th century Japan when the two-sword style of swordsmanship was first invented. It proved to be a revolution, and marked the beginning of a new era in combat.

NIKEN: Sports bike performance with unique corner carving confidence
With the NIKEN, Yamaha opens up the possibility of a whole new era in motorcycling, a riding revolution – offering a sensation that is unique. Imagine the ability to carve through winding roads with unmatched confidence…a new feeling that could be compared to the thrilling experience when carving turns with skis.

This revolutionary new kind of motorcycle feels, handles and looks like nothing else. At the same time as being different to a motorcycle, the NIKEN’s handling characteristics are also reassuringly familiar to riders.

The advanced Yamaha-exclusive technology used in the double leaning front wheel layout offers high levels of traction – making it a strong performer in corners and giving the NIKEN rider the ability to carve through winding roads with unmatched confidence. And two front wheels means there are two front tyres and two sets of front brakes, so the levels of traction and braking are also like nothing else on the road!

YAMAHA NIKEN: Ride the Revolution
The NIKEN’s unique leaning multi wheel (LMW) system offers very sporty and confident handling characteristics, together with enhanced feelings of stability and grip when cornering in a wide range of surface conditions.

Yamaha’s engineers have gone to great lengths to ensure that the character of the NIKEN is similar to that of a conventional motorcycle, and the majority of riders will be able to transition seamlessly from a two wheeler to the Yamaha LMW system without having to alter their riding style. But as soon as they enter a corner, NIKEN riders will feel growing levels of confidence and enjoyment – offering more fun with less stress.

The NIKEN’s sporty handling performance is designed to complement its high overall specification and enable riders to realise the optimal potential of the torque-rich, 847cc, 3-cylinder engine.

Bold and futuristic design
The NIKEN’s muscular and athletic body design clearly shows that this innovative new 3-wheel Yamaha is designed for energetic riding. The twin front wheels form the focal point from which the futuristic cowl and integrated fuel tank flow, giving a unique mass forward look that emphasises the NIKEN’s bold and unique profile.

Yamaha’s designers have sought to highlight the distinctive technology used in the LMW system, and rather than being hidden away, the structure and workings of the Yamaha-exclusive mechanisms are there for all to see.

From the rider’s viewpoint the NIKEN has a rugged wide-shouldered appearance that contrasts with the slim fuel tank, giving a unique riding style unlike any other motorcycle. The upward curving main seat features a wide, flat design with excellent rear support that gives high levels of comfort.

Sporty and lightweight cowl with dual LED headlights
The sporty front face features lightweight dual LED headlights housed in a downward curving aerodynamic cowl that looks like nothing else on the street, and the dual position lights serve to emphasise the strong and planted look of the double front wheels.

The broad nose cowl and sport screen give the NIKEN rider good protection from the elements, and together with the natural riding position, this advanced LMW is ready for everything from thrilling corner carving through to sport touring over the weekend. YZF-R1 derived mirrors feature integrated LED turn signals, and are designed to give a clear rear view even when the riding position changes.

In contrast to the broad-shouldered front end, the slim and upswept tail and separate license plate holder convey a feeling of agility, underlining the NIKEN’s revolutionary style that is about to bring a whole new look to the streets of Europe.

Hybrid steel and aluminium frame
The NIKEN is designed to master a wide range of riding situations, and so in order to achieve high levels of straight-line stability together with sporty cornering performance, a new kind of hybrid frame has been especially developed.

The head pipe area is manufactured from cast steel, while the swingarm pivot area is cast aluminium, and the main frame connecting these two assemblies is made from steel tube. By delivering the required levels of strength, rigidity and flexibility precisely where they are needed, this hybrid design enhances the planted and natural feel of the leaning double wheel front end, and ensures sports bike agility together with excellent handling performance.

Balanced chassis design
The NIKEN’s unique LWM 3 wheel layout introduces another dimension compared to a conventional motorcycle, and in order to optimise the NIKEN’s handling performance, a 552mm long aluminium swingarm is used. This is 15mm longer than the MT-09 design, and the increased length helps to give a strong feeling of stability when cornering.

Another key design element is the riding position, and compared to the MT-09 the NIKEN rider sits around 50mm further towards the rear. This seating position gives an ideal 50:50 front-rear weight distribution with the rider on board – giving a natural handling and steering feel.

Double “external” upside-down front forks
In order to achieve sport bike handling capabilities, the NIKEN’s maximum lean angle extends to 45 degrees, and this has been made possible by the use of the Ackermann dual axle steering mechanism, together with a cantilevered suspension system mounted to the outside of the wheels.

The double “external” upside-down front forks are equipped with rebound and compression damping adjusters that enable the rider to dial in their ideal suspension set up, and the relatively narrow 410mm track contributes towards the NIKEN’s natural steering feel – as well as keeping the overall width to a minimum.

Fully adjustable rear suspension
The NIKEN’s rear suspension offers full adjustability for preload, compression and rebound damping, enabling the rider to set it up to suit varying conditions, and for convenience the preload can be set without the need for tools.

Double 15-inch front wheels for excellent cornering performance
With the high levels of grip and a greater feeling of stability provided by two front wheels, the NIKEN has been developed to be an expert corner carver, capable of delivering a thrilling ride on winding roads.

The double 15-inch front wheels are fitted with 120/70R15 V range tyres that have been specially developed for the unique requirements of this leaning multi wheel vehicle. Offering high levels of grip, abrasion resistance and wet-weather capability, they contribute towards the NIKEN’s outstanding corner-carving performance.

Dual 298mm front disc brakes
Dual 298mm front discs generate high levels of braking performance, and the increased surface contact area provided by the double front wheels enables the NIKEN to stop quickly and efficiently. The rear brake features a large diameter 282mm disc, and with these three large diameter discs working through three wheels, NIKEN riders have a high degree of control.

Renewed 847cc CP3 engine
The 847cc 3-cylinder engine that drives the new NIKEN has been specially developed from the outstandingly successful powerplant that is also used in the best-selling MT-09, as well as the Tracer 900 and XSR900.

To suit the unique requirements of the NIKEN, this torque-rich crossplane philosophy engine is equipped with special fuel injection settings that are designed to enhance this radical new motorcycle’s performance in the environment that it loves: twisty mountain roads. There’s also a newly designed crank that gives excellent drivability and smoother starts.

NIKEN riders also benefit from the latest electronic control technology including YCC-T, D-MODE, Cruise Control and a Traction Control System, as well as an A&S clutch and Quick Shift System that gives a high degree of controllability and fun riding in varying riding conditions.

R-series type aluminium fuel tank
The premium quality and high overall specification of the NIKEN is underlined by the use of a beautifully sculpted aluminium fuel tank that has been created using the same advanced production technology as the YZF-R1 and YZF-R6.

Featuring a smooth, flowing design that blends seamlessly with the wide shouldered front cowl, this lightweight fuel tank design features concave surfaces that give a firm knee grip area and allow the rider to move freely.

With a capacity of 18 litres, this high quality light aluminium tank gives a range in excess of 300 km, offering the NIKEN rider the ability to cover large distances with minimal fuel stops.

Compact instrument panel with LCD display
Another feature that reinforces the NIKEN’s premium look and feel is the black background of its LCD instrument display, which clearly displays all key information to the rider and gives excellent visibility, day or night.

NIKEN: Creating a whole new riding experience
The NIKEN offers much more than high performance. Its premium specification and futuristic design open up a whole new dimension in terms of riding control, and enhance the fun and enjoyment experienced on every journey.

And the reassuring feelings of stability and controllability inspired by its double front wheel layout are sure to attract many experienced riders who are looking for a new kind of vehicle.

The NIKEN represents one of the most significant developments in the motorcycling world for many years. The ultimate corner carver has arrived. And a new icon will appear on European roads during 2018.

Yamaha Reveals the Race Ready 2017 YZF-R6

Yamaha Motor Europe N.V. welcomed all thrill seekers into ‘ouR World’ with the launch of the race-ready YZF-R6 during the EICMA International Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan. Inspired by YZR-M1 technology with the distinctive R-Series design, the showcasing of this full-blooded racing machine was Yamaha’s first step in preparing its customers and racers for what’s to come in the next year, when the YZF-R6 will demonstrate its racing excellence on track, chasing glory in the 2017 FIM Supersport World Championship.

GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team’s Lucas Mahias and Federico Caricasulo as well as Kallio Yamaha Supported WorldSSP Team’s Niki Tuuli and Sheridan Morais attended the EICMA Press Conference to get a first glimpse of the 2017 YZF-R6. This new middleweight Supersport bike is incredibly similar to their racing bikes for next season due to the championship’s regulations that only allow very subtle alterations made to the consumer bike’s cylinder head, gearbox, suspension, rear shock, front fork, electronic system and brake disks.

Having won the FIM Supersport World Championship three times in the last seven years (2009: Cal Crutchlow / 2011:Chaz Davies / 2013: Sam Lowes), the YZFR6 has already proved it’s top of the line, but that hasn’t stopped Yamaha from taking it one step further with the new 2017 model.

M1 and R1-inspired design

As the YZF-R6 is to re-enter the WorldSSP Championship in 2017, Yamaha have completely restyled the 600cc Supersport bike with a radical new look to match its ambitions. The new design is clearly inspired by the latest generation MotoGP and WorldSBK models – the M1-type central forced air intake, recessed LED twin headlights and new YZF-R1 style tail just being three examples – giving the bike an intense look that’s instantly recognizable as being a member of the R-series family, while its own unique character still shines through.

Most efficient YZF-R6 aerodynamics

The YZF-R6 is known for its light handling, agility and speed. Yamaha’s Supersport design team has been working relentlessly to push the performance in each of these areas and their hard work has paid off. A new front cowl, windscreen and a low drag front fairing, developed using some of the key elements from the YZF-R1, give a significant improvement of 8% in aerodynamic efficiency. Additionally, the YZF-R6 also comes with a new slimline magnesium rear subframe that’s 20mm narrower at the front, allowing the rider to tuck in more closely to the tank for a more streamlined rider position, while a newly designed seat and rear subframe make it quicker and easier for the rider to shift his body weight.

Sophisticated electronic control technology

The YZF-R6 has always been a frontrunner, both in terms of getting the results on track and being the first to adopt innovative technology. Besides being equipped with a Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) and a Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake (YCC-I) for a high degree of controllability in a wide range of conditions, the new YZF-R6 comes with an advanced Traction Control System (TCS) that is adjustable by a switch on the handlebars. The YZF-R6 also comes equipped with a new Quick Shift System (QSS) for even faster gear changing. This system is similar to the design used on the YZF-R1, and instantly cancels drive torque when an upshift is detected – enabling full throttle clutchless
upshifts for outstanding acceleration through the close ratio 6-speed transmission.

Special Racing Component

Other outstanding bike features of the YZF-R6 displayed at EICMA include the full race fairing (consisting of a two-piece front and single piece seat), an Akrapovic Evo full Titanium exhaust, dual Brembo T-drive front brakes (disc Ø 320 mm), single Brembo rear brake (disc Ø 220 mm), telescopic forks (Ø 43 mm) front suspension with Ohlins Cartridge kit, and threaded Pirelli Diablo tyres (front: 120/70 ZR17M/C, rear: 180/55 ZR17M/C) as per championship regulations.

Alongside the genuine accessories, the showcased racing features are all available through the official Yamaha dealer network.

Yamaha Trak – A new era in motorcycle security

Yamaha is very pleased to announce that it is building on its long standing relationship with Meta System®, to offer Yamaha owners exclusive GPS tracking technology from the renowned Italian automotive security manufacturer. Yamaha Trak is a new vehicle tracking system exclusive to Yamaha, which can be fully integrated into the Meta Defcom alarm system to offer a unique and market leading theft deterrent.

The Yamaha Trak GPS tracking range includes both Thatcham Approved Category 6 and Category 2-1 systems, as well as non-accredited systems for those who would like a tracking product without the need to meet insurance criteria.

Combining the mandatory requirements set down by Thatcham in order to meet the strict guidelines pertaining to Category 6 criteria, with the ease of use provided by the dedicated mobile app (Android & iOS), the Yamaha Trak 6 and Yamaha Defcom Trak are designed to offer more than just a stolen vehicle recovery system.

Designed and manufactured by Meta System in Italy, the Yamaha Trak range is a truly global product. Offering real-time updates, historic data, geo-fence capability, vehicle driving statistics and traffic information; the Yamaha Meta Trak App enables the user to obtain all relevant vehicle details in one place, from any location worldwide.

The Yamaha Trak range is sold with a subscription built-in meaning, that they are live from installation. JvB-moto Creates Yard Built XSR700 Super 7

Yamaha’s Yard Built projects have led the way in the revival of the cool custom world. Developing relationships with the rock stars of motorcycle customising, the project has delivered an incredible line up of unique and breath-taking one-off Yard Builts based on the Sport Heritage range of motorcycles. Legendary customizers from across the globe have turned their skilled hands to proving how easy it is to customize one of Yamaha’s very flexible retro machines. The exercise provides inspiration and has set new trends in the motorcycle world, making it a reality for everyone to make their Yamaha their own.

Following the stunning concept ‘Faster Son’ created by Chabbott Engineering’s Shinya Kimura this summer to launch the XSR700, Germany’s JvB-moto is now the first custom builder to step up and deliver their take on the latest offering from the Sport Heritage range. The result, the ‘Super 7’ makes a bold statement, making it clear that the possibilities for customization and personalisation with the XSR700 are huge.

Without any cutting or welding to the frame, Jens worked to strip back the bike with the drive to expose the essence of the retro styled machine. The end result is a super clean motorcycle that reflects the lightweight, powerful and agile nature of the standard XSR700.

Many of the parts on the ‘Super 7’ were made in-house by JvB-moto and will be available shortly for XSR700 owners. These include the headlight, LED indicators and speedometer mounting which holds the Daytona speedo. The side covers and seat unit that give the bike its distinctive shape were all made by JvB-moto as well as the mounting for the Arrows exhaust. At the rear of the bike, the mudguard, taillight and number plate mounting are all made in-house as well as the front mudguard.

The ‘Super 7’ sits on Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa tyres for total grip with Öhlins shocks at the rear keeping everything under control. The front forks are stock items, modified for the custom build. Custom risers keep the LSL handlebars at the right height in front of the stunning fuel tank, normally anodized but now stripped to show the raw alloy There’s also a custom rear brake reservoir and polished regulator.

The stock footrests and mountings were modified and JvB-moto LED indicators set off the front end. To finish off the sides the engine covers and other small parts were sandblasted to give the finished effect.

Everything designed and built in-house by JvB-moto will be available shortly as bolt-on parts for the XSR700.

El Solitario create Yard Built XJR1300 ‘Big Bad Wolf’

Yamaha’s Yard Built Project Breaks New Ground with El Solitario’s Big Bad Wolf

Yamaha’s Yard Built program has gone from strength to strength, showcasing an impressive line up of customized creations built in collaboration with the world’s best custom motorcycle builders. This summer Yamaha teamed up with Spanish customhouse El Solitario for the final XJR build of 2015, celebrating 20 years of the iconic street machine. The result is an awe-inspiring creation, a race inspired track monster that more than lives up to its name, ‘Big Bad Wolf’. The bike broke cover for the first time at the Glemseck 101 show in Germany in September, taking to the 1/8 mile race track to bring an end to the reign of the defending champions Lucky Cat Garage.

El Solitario’s ‘Big Bad Wolf’ wraps up a year of incredible XJR builds celebrating the bike’s anniversary, a year that includes creations from Danish builders the Wrenchmonkees with the ‘Skullmonkee’, Portuguese builders itroCkS!bikes with the ‘CS-06 Dissident’ and Dutch builder Numbnut Motorcycles retro endurance racer inspired ‘Botafogo N’.

Despite the complete transformation from street machine to pure race predator, El Solitario stayed true to the Yard Build ethos and created the ‘Big Bad Wolf’ with no cutting or welding to the frame of the standard bike. The build highlights just how far you can go with a little imagination and an XJR1300.

“We are really happy with the collaboration with El Solitario,” commented Yamaha Motor Europe Product Manager Shun Miyazawa. “The timing was just right as we believe they were ready to push out in a new direction from their previous work and break new ground. We wanted to challenge them with the Yard Built project to show a different side to El Solitario and push them to see what they are capable of. The result is impressive! With no cutting or welding to the frame of the XJR they have proved that the bike continues to be an excellent base for customization, no matter what direction you choose to build in. We’ve seen a number of amazing builds this year, taking different looks on the XJR and this is again a new approach. The level of detail is fantastic, and we are proud of the collaboration, showing not just a new face for the XJR but also new ground for El Solitario.”

El Solitario’s David Loner agreed, “El Solitario is not familiar with 4 cylinder bikes so at first we couldn’t understand the challenge. For months we tried to answer the same question: How could we take it further? Ground Zero would be to ask the correct question. Asking what scared us the most, the answer was performance and technology! Both were unknown and expensive paths for us. Suddenly aversion turned into curiosity and we had our challenge. We are motorcycle poets not engineers, so countless hours of research, and the love of our friends, made it possible to find the best partners in the world of fast bikes, and with their help, we developed one of the gnarliest muscle bikes ever to be seen in recent years.”

Key to the success of the project was the collaboration with Mauro Abbadini, from Classic Co. as technical director of the build, he brought with him the confidence and know how of a veteran racer and winner of many battles. Last but not least an army of racing industry experts, all keen to collaborate with El Solitario.

The end result, the ‘Big Bad Wolf’ AKA: BBW, has almost everything custom made with the exception of the frame, the tank, the handlebars and the rear light, reducing the wet weight to just 183kg.

The Motor was blueprinted and the heads were ported and flowed. The intake port flow was increased by 50%. Compression was raised from 9.7-1 (Stock) to 10.7-1. The combustion chambers were reshaped & the squish areas increased. The rods were reinforced with titanium bolts and the crankshaft was rebalanced. All the electronics and were removed and state of the art Lectron 42 Carburetors were added, developed specifically for the BBW by Lectron Fuel Systems on their flow bench to be plug & play on delivery. A Dynatek Programmable Ignition was installed. The work takes the power up to 148 BHP at the rear wheel.

Classic Co. then fabricated a carbon fibre tail section, motor air rams and the belly pan, as well as all the aluminum brackets for the needed modifications. UK based Dymag developed the carbon fibre wheels especially to fit not just BBW but also the stock XJR1300. Acke Rising from ISR in Sweden did a lot of machining sing the El Solitario designs to make custom triple trees, disc rotors and the incredible rear brake caliper bracket. ISR hand controls were added along with ISR front 6 piston calipers and rear 4 pistons caliper.

K-Tech Suspension collaborated with Novatech to develop the impressive front forks and the rear shocks and the screaming custom titanium exhaust was made by Asahina Racing in Japan, designed to fit not just the BBW but the stock XJR1300 also. Moto GP oil cooler supplier, Taleo Racing in Madrid created the custom semi circular oil cooler and EMD in France, machined in aluminum the prototype motor covers which will be available to buy from El Solitario for the stock XJR1300 in the foundry version.

A TWM custom gas cap sets off the tank and a stunning custom aluminum swing arm by Over Racing in Japan finishes the rear along with a set of their rearsets. The BBW was wired using the Motogadget M-Unit & uses the M-Lock for on/off. Corona supplied the super cool quick shifter and PIAA supplied the intense headlights.

The BBW stays stuck to the tarmac with Michelin street, slick and rain tyres to maximize the fun whatever the conditions. Last but by no means least the beautiful custom graphics and paint was the work of London artist Death Spray Custom.
