BMW Motorrad UK to show off new range of 2017 models at Motorcycle Live

Huge selection of 2017 models on show in the UK for the first time including the stunning R5 Hommage concept bike.

BMW Motorrad UK is bringing its new range of 2017 models to Motorcycle Live, the UK’s biggest bike show – the first time most have been seen in this country.

Motorcycle Live runs from 19 November through to 27 November and is held at the NEC near Birmingham. BMW Motorrad UK’s stand will be located in Hall 3.

So far in 2016, BMW Motorrad has unveiled a host of all-new and heavily revised models for the 2017 model year. There are a wide range of new motorcycles and technical updates to be seen across the entire BMW Motorrad range; the largest number ever revealed in a single year.

New models revealed so far include a heavily-revised R 1200 GS which has been further optimised with self-levelling suspension and a raft of engineering enhancements.

In the Heritage range are all-new models including the R nineT Racer, the R nineT Urban G/S and the R nineT Pure along with additional refinements to the hugely successful R nineT roadster.

The lightweight BMW G 310 R will be on the stand and joined by the highly anticipated BMW G 310 GS.

The entire F 800 range has been given technical updates which includes the F 800 R, F 800 GS and GS Adventure model and the F 800 GT tourer.

The sublime K 1600 six-cylinder range has also been given a number of changes to further enhance the long-distance comfort of the range with the K 1600 GT and GTL models on show at Motorcycle Live.

The four-cylinder S 1000 range has also been included in the plethora of changes for 2017 with the S 1000 R roadster getting the most substantial modifications including a new frame alongside other technical updates common to the S 1000 RR superbike and the S 1000 XR adventure sportsbike.

The ground-breaking BMW C evolution electric scooter range will also be on show in the UK in 2017 specification for the first time.

One big surprise for the BMW Motorrad stand at Motorcycle Live will be the appearance of the stunning R5 Hommage concept bike which has never been seen in the UK before. This supercharged concept bike was first shown last year.

Far more than just new bikes.

It’s not just new models that are on show on the BMW Motorrad stand at Motorcycle Live. The enthralling GS Experience will be back at the show after its popular appearance last year. The GS Experience is a chance for customers to get an exciting taste of the off-road capabilities of the class-leading BMW R 1200 GS, with BMW Off Road Skills instructors on hand to advise and tutor.

The World of BMW activity managers from BMW Off Road Skills, BMW Tours and the BMW Rider Training Schools will be at the show to give full details of the events they run and sign customers up for anything that interests them.

A notable absentee the show will be the stunning carbon-fibre framed HP4 Race advanced prototype, unveiled two weeks ago at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy, is unfortunately not available for the Motorcycle Live event. However, full details of the bike will be revealed in March 2017.

News from Milan – the fantastic expandable topbox!

Spanish luggage experts Shad have done it again. We’ve all seen expandable soft luggage, but Shad have applied that principle to their innovative new expandable top case – yes, hard luggage that can be expanded to increase its capacity!

The SW58X is the solution for those who want a top case for more than one purpose, but don’t want the expense or hassle of buying additional luggage.

So what does it do?
Open the lid and there are a couple of small levers inside that you use to unlock the extending part of the case and reset it into one of three positions.
This simple yet innovative solution has been patented by Shad and allows the SH58X top case to be expanded from 46 litres, to 52 litres and up to a maximum of 58 litres of capacity. In fact if you go for the SH59X option with alternative lid, there is an extra litre to be had too!

So if your daily commute requires just a basic amount of storage, you can ride with the more compact box on the back of your bike.
Come the weekend however and it takes just seconds to expand the case to accommodate the extra luggage you’ll need for a few days away from home.

Of course the same principal can be applied when going shopping, carrying an extra crash helmet for a pillion, and so much more. This product really is so adaptable and will suit the needs of many riders of today.

As with all Shad top boxes a fitting plate is included which allows you to mount the box onto an existing carrier/rack, the construction is robust, the design aesthetically appealing, and when purchased from an official UK dealer it comes complete with the UK backed TWO-YEAR WARRANTY.

The RRP is yet to be confirmed, but will be around 299 Euros and the UK debut of the SH58X will be at the Motorcycle Trade Expo on 15-17 January 2017 at Stoneleigh Park. You will also be able to view the rest of the exciting new range of Shad products for 2017 at the Expo.

The SHAD range is only distributed in the UK by the official UK distributor, Motorcycle Parts Network who offer an exclusive 2 year UK backed guarantee on Shad products.

KTM – Streets Ahead

A multitude of sensational new bikes characterises KTM’s model range of 2017. While the brand new ADVENTURE range, expanded to five models, formed the focus at the INTERMOT in Cologne, in Italy KTM is all about street art.

Stefan Pierer (CEO KTM GROUP): “The DUKE brand is how KTM really hit the street 22 years ago and for model year 2017 this sub-brand really comes out fighting; from 125 to 1,301cc each and every model punches out the true core values of KTM and the attitude of DUKE. To underline the importance of this range of naked machines, with the 790 DUKE prototype we can give you a look into the future and an all-new source of power from KTM.”

KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R – THE BEAST 2.0

With this bike’s new transponder key in your pocket, you go for the gold. An overhauled V-Twin beats the battle drums at 177 hp, while its revamped chassis is set to stay ahead when the straight is devoured. When corners become prey. Every bit, byte, nut and bolt wants you to be fast and in control: wider, lower handlebar, Brembo monobloc brakes, MSC with Bosch cornering ABS, glorious WP suspension, an optional, two-way quickshifter+, a multifunctional TFT display, a full LED headlight, the works. This is our latest performance entrepreneur – pure, raw and straight to the point: speed.

KTM 125 AND 390 DUKE – OUTSTANDING PACKAGE
These firecrackers get a new, bolt-on rear subframe, a larger steel tank and steeply rising lines that catapult their street cred sky-high. Just like the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, whose little brothers they are very proud to be. Or is it the other way around? They also receive a high-tech TFT display, an LED headlight and the best brakes in their segment. Both have WP open-cartridge front forks and with the optional extra ‘KTM MY RIDE’ (smart phone connectivity) topping things off, KTM once again turns – happily nodding – heads in this segment.

KTM 790 DUKE PROTOTYPE – THE SCALPEL
125, 250, 390, 690, 1290. What’s next? In terms of displacement, we can’t really make a case for growth. KTM can, however, justify the hunt for unparalleled poise. Telepathic levels of feedback. Lightness that’s off the scale. Our engineers are highly motivated to establish a new level of riding sensation. The first proof of these huge efforts: the inspiring prototype “790 DUKE”.

An inline twin emerged on the blank sheet: the LC8c. That ‘c’ stands for compact, ‘LC8’ for good times ahead. They fitted their 790cc gem with a tight suit tailored from hand-welded steel pipes, the finest suspension components from WP prototype development as well as a beautifully machined aluminum subframe and tail cowl. And in order to slingshot this lightweight another couple of light years ahead, advanced ride by wire, next-generation rider assistance, integrated connectivity and tomorrow’s sensors are here today. But that’s not the end of it. Imagine a quickshifter that takes its name extremely seriously. Custom ride modes. Personalised traction control. Outrageous design by KISKA. And – hold the press – there’s a 3D printer involved in the production of both the exhaust system and triple clamp. They are out of this world. Knockout rollout in Milan.

The all-new Triumph Street Scrambler

Joining the new Street Cup in the Street Twin line up for 2017 – the all new Street Scrambler builds on the Street Twin’s position as the fun and accessible contemporary Bonneville and brings a significant update in capability and style to the iconic Triumph Scrambler.

Purposeful Scrambler Style

The all-new Street Scrambler has been developed to deliver more purposeful and beautiful Scrambler style with unique features and detailing.

Sharing the same contemporary custom styling principles as the Street Twin, the new Street Scrambler has the iconic Bonneville silhouette combined with clean lines, minimal bodywork and modern finishes such as the elegant fuel tank with locking cap, black sculpted engine covers with the Triumph makers mark and engine badge, single throttle body with aluminium finisher and distinctive fined head and header clamps.

In-keeping with the name and heritage, the Street Scrambler is packed with distinctive and beautiful scrambler finishes including;

– Interchangeable pillion seat and aluminium rear rack as standard

– Removable pillion pegs and hangers

– Steel high grip ‘Bear Trap’ adventure style front foot pegs

– All terrain style bash plate

– Ribbed Alcantara-style twin seat with contrast stitching and Triumph embossed logo

– Aluminium headlight bracket and black headlight bezel

– Distinctive competition inspired number-board side panel

– New front mudguard mounts to suit the larger wheel

– Unique detailed dual compound rubber knee pads for enhanced grip

– New contemporary mirrors

The premium touch of the entire Bonneville range is present in the details, including unique gun-metal finish engine badges, real brushed aluminium tank logo decals, black headlight bezel and machined metal instrument dial face detailing.

The all-new Street Scrambler is available in three exciting paint schemes;

– Jet Black
– Matt Khaki Green
– Korosi Red and Frozen Silver with jet black hand painted coach lining and unique tank decals

More performance

There’s been a major step forward from the previous generation Scrambler in regards to engine, exhaust and rider focused technology. All combining to give more performance and a better riding experience from the new Street Scrambler.

Fitted with the critically acclaimed 900cc Bonneville high torque engine, the Street Scrambler delivers much more torque and power low down and in the mid-range, perfect for around town and light off-roading.  A key update to the original Bonneville engine platform, the 900cc engine features a charismatic 270° firing interval for smooth, linear power delivery from the slick five-speed gearbox.

Enhanced throttle response from Triumph’s ride-by-wire fuel injection and cutting-edge liquid cooling system have been carefully integrated into the unique style of the Street Scrambler. This reduces fuel emissions and significantly improves fuel efficiency whilst providing smooth and precise drive for a higher level of control and rideability. This, combined with a new extended service interval of 10,000 miles (16,000km) dramatically reduces the overall cost of ownership.

The all new, more compact, high level twin Scrambler exhaust in beautiful stainless steel delivers a unique scrambler soundtrack, authentic scrambler style and features an intricate header run that cleverly integrates the cat box and is finished off with brushed stainless steel silencers with stylish contrasting black heat shields.

Enhanced capability

The stunning authentic Scrambler look comes complete with contemporary capability for maximum precision, control and safety and a wealth of advanced rider focused technology including:

Ride-by-wire – Enhanced rideability, safety and control, from a single throttle body.

Switchable ABS – A unique feature on the Street Scrambler that reinforces its capability is switchable ABS, accessed via the instrument menu.
This is the latest generation anti-lock braking system – introducing a new level of safety and control yet remaining unobtrusive and with minimal visual impact.

Switchable traction control – Switchable traction control, accessed via the instrument menu,
helps to maximise rider safety and control.

Torque assist clutch – Designed to reduce clutch lever effort for the rider, bringing a lighter touch and feel to the clutch and making it easier to ride, and for longer

Liquid cooling – For cleaner and more fuel efficient riding (up to 36% better fuel economy).

LED rear light – Incorporated into the classic design, it creates a distinctive light pattern with enhanced power efficiency.

Engine immobiliser – Thatcham approved immobiliser with a transponder incorporated into new key.

USB charging socket – Mounted underneath the seat for convenient charging of essential devices.

Stylish twin clocks – Feature packed clock cleverly incorporating a digital menu system for fingertip control while riding.

With:

  • Rev counter
  • Gear position indicator
  • Odometer
  • Two trip settings
  • Service indicator
  • Range to empty
  • Fuel level
  • Average and current fuel consumption
  • Clock
  • Traction control setting

With a dedicated new Scrambler chassis and suspension the Street Scrambler has had a major upgrade to its capability and has been given more dynamic Scrambler poise.

Just like the Street Twin the new Street Scrambler chassis set-up is tuned to deliver a neutral and predictable ride. This, combined with the same confidence inspiring evolution to  “stand-over” ergonomics for manoeuvrability and seat height considerably lower than the previous model, makes it a really accessible and fun bike for every type of rider.

Contributing to the commanding riding position and signature silhouette are the new model specific front forks and rear suspension units which raise the back end for addition ride height, wider tapered aluminium handlebars and classic larger sized wire spoked wheels. The new Street Scrambler comes with a large 19’’ wheel on the front and 17’’ wheel on the rear both of which have stylish steel blacked out hubs and rims.

A further increase in specification comes from the new high value 2-piston sliding axial Nissin caliper with machined branding.

EUROPE ONLY

Accessible for everyone

To make the Street Scrambler even more accessible, an A2 licence kit will be available for models from launch.

The A2 kit can be easily fitted and just as easily removed by a Triumph dealer.
Local market legislative requirements will apply.

Add even more Scrambler style and capability

Just like the Street Twin, the new Street Scrambler has been designed with personalisation at its heart and has more than 150 accessories to deliver more rugged off road focus, more style and more everyday usability.

The off-road accessories include, adjustable rear piggy back FOX shocks with threaded preload adjustment and 24 position compression damping, black glass-filled nylon headlight grill with a pressed steel matt black finish bezel, and a forged and machined aluminium handlebar brace in a black anodised finish  (fitted with a stylish black or brown vinyl bar pad embroidered with the Triumph logo).

For even more style the accessories range include slip on Vance and Hines single exit silencers, a traditional scrambler twin bench seat and 70mm diameter bar end peep mirrors in anodised black or clear aluminium with a laser etched Triumph logo.

For everyday usability there are internally wired heated grips available along with a steel fabricated centre stand kit, an auxiliary power socket and cockpit mounting kit and highly durable engine bars.

* Please note that availability of the Vance & Hines silencers are governed by local market legislation

Aprilia Shiver 900

The naked bike from Noale grows in displacement with a new Euro 4 twin-cylinder capable of more than 95 HP and 90 NM of torque

New performance combined with an absolutely top shelf frame for a rideability that raises the bar to new heights in the naked sport bike segment

An intuitive, powerful, agile and technological bike is born in the best aprilia tradition, dedicated to absolute riding pleasure

Also available in the limited 35 KW power version for riders with an A2 driver’s license

As always, Aprilia makes refined mechanics and an excellent chassis structure the winning values on its new bike. The new Aprilia Shiver 900 evolves the original project of a bike that, from its first appearance on the scene in 2007, marked a turning point as the first factory bike fitted with Ride-by-wire technology to manage engine throttle valve electronics. A technological first from Aprilia derived directly from the racing world, the Aprilia Cube, in fact, was the first MotoGP bike to use this technology in 2002 and since then all of the global manufacturers have followed suit.

The Aprilia Shiver 900 increases in performance, thanks to the new 900 V-twin engine, capable of increasing, not only the power, but more importantly, the maximum torque delivered at any rpm at top levels for its category. More power and more character that translate into great riding satisfaction without sacrificing the ease and comfort that have always been characteristics of the Aprilia Shiver. It stems from a bike that has made fledgling and expert riders alike fall in love, thanks to its chassis architecture that, in the best Aprilia tradition, draws on the know-how of a manufacturer that has won 54 world titles in its brief history and that currently has bikes in premier competitions like MotoGP and Superbike.

The new superstructures – side covers on the fuel tank, side panels, tail fairing, front mudguard – that profoundly revamp the aesthetics make the new naked sport bike from Noale stand out at a glance.

The new twin cylinder also stands out for its aggressive features that highlight its distinctly sporty character: the wheel rims, the frame, the shock absorber spring and the cylinder head covers are now painted red.

The instrument cluster is completely new and is now made up of an ultra-modern TFT technology display to ensure that the information is perfectly legible. The large, 4.3” screen (the same one used on the new Aprilia RSV4 and Aprilia Tuono 1100 V4 versions) allows all the on board information to be clear and highly legible at all times, thanks in part to its capacity of adapting the background and font colours based on the conditions detected by the light sensor.

Connectivity with your smartphone, provided as an accessory with the AMP kit, also provides you with all the data related to incoming/current calls on the screen, as well as information related to the use of an intercom or any audio files that you may be playing.

For the first time, the easy to ride, powerful and technologically advanced Aprilia Shiver 900 now has an advanced traction control system that increases safety while taking riding pleasure to maximum levels. From city riding to more flowing routes, from mountain passes to touring itineraries, even long range, Shiver 900 invites you to fasten your helmet and set off in search of the best sensations on two wheels.

A new engine, new power

The new Euro 4 engine grows to 900 cc from the 750 cc on the first version. This increase was achieved thanks to the increased stroke that means the power at the shaft exceeds the threshold of 95 HP and, more importantly, significantly increases torque at medium rpms, all to the advantage of pick up power during acceleration and coming out of corners. The 90 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm that are consequently obtained guarantee pure fun in the saddle.

Aprilia Shiver 900 is an easy bike to ride even for new bikers, accompanying them in their personal evolution of experience in the saddle. This is why there is also a version available with power limited to 35 KW that can be ridden by A2 class license holders.

The new powerplant maintains the 90 degree angle between the two cylinders, as well as a timing system with four valves per cylinder, dual overhead cam and liquid cooling. On the other hand, it now has a more efficient lubrication circuit and the new Marelli 7SM ECU.

The new Shiver 900 receives the full benefits of Aprilia’s extensive experience in electronic control systems and riding support for which the Aprilia RSV4 – the supersport bike that has won seven World SBK titles (three rider and four manufacturer) in its racing version and that is consistently at the top of its category in the street version – is an unrivalled example.

Out of this experience and from this Aprilia technological first, the Shiver 900 features an advanced traction control system that guarantees maximum safety, but also pure brilliant riding enjoyment thanks to the dual control that acts on both ignition and on the motorized throttle valves, making its intervention smooth and easy to manage.

The Ride-by-wire feature, that made its début as standard equipment for a factory bike on none other than the first Shiver version, also changes and evolves. On this latest version, the system becomes lighter thanks to a reduction in weight of more than half a kilo.

The exhaust pipes, one of the characterizing aesthetic elements of the Aprilia Shiver with their placement under the saddle to give the side view of the bike an extremely clean look, have been redesigned. They maintain the original position, but the end of the silencer is shorter and directed upward. The exhaust flow is now directed downward and to the side in order to prevent interference with the passenger and to guarantee greater comfort.

A chassis architecture worthy of the Aprilia tradition

The performance provided by the new engine is perfectly matched to an ultra-fine chassis architecture, easy to ride and intuitive, but at the same time incredibly high performance that, in the best Aprilia tradition, is simply unrivalled in the category. In fact, the mixed steel trellis/aluminium plates frame provides standard-setting stiffness, defines an extremely compact bike and ensures that it is capable of catering to fledgling riders with no problem, as well as enhancing the riding skills of more expert and discerning bikers. This makes flowing routes a favourite playground for the Shiver 900.

The Shiver 900 structure takes advantage of all the proverbial Aprilia know-how where frames are concerned and draws from the on-track experience gained in the Supermoto competitions where Aprilia boasts no less than seven World Titles. The trellis upper part in steel tubing is connected to wide spread aluminium lateral plates using special, high-resistance bolts. The combination formed by these elements forms an extremely stiff and lightweight frame, an extremely rational and excellent solution for reining in all the horses of the new Aprilia V90.

The contained longitudinal development of the engine has led to obtaining an agile bike, a feature that also benefits from the choice to position the shock absorber laterally. Thanks to this solution, space was created for the exhaust manifolds that have a shape and volume calibrated to perfection in order to get the best performance from the engine. This has allowed for an optimum exhaust manifold layout, without having a significant impact on the length of the bike and without thermally stressing a fundamental riding element like the shock absorber.

The aluminium alloy swingarm with stiffening truss boasts stiffness values at the top of its category and it is sized to withstand the asymmetrical stress due to the lateral positioning of the shock absorber.

Aprilia Shiver 900 adopts a new 41 mm stanchions Kayaba fork, almost a half kilo lighter than the one mounted on the first version, adjustable in hydraulic rebound damping and spring preload, with chill cast feet to support the radial callipers. The 120 mm travel lets you smoothly tackle urban and mountain routes. The two steering yoke plates are made of forged aluminium.

The rear shock absorber, mounted on the side, is pivoted directly to the swingarm, following the cantilever layout and it is adjustable in spring preload and hydraulic rebound. Rear wheel travel is 130 mm.

The sporty, three-spoked wheel rims are also new, inspired by the standard Aprilia Tuono V4 wheels and contributors to containing the weight, reducing the front by 0.9 kg and the rear by 1.3 kg. This leads to a drastic reduction of the gyroscopic effect and therefore greater agility for the bike, improved suspension functionality thanks to the reduction of unsprung masses and quicker acceleration. The new wheel rims are shod with 120/70 tyres on the front and 180/55 on the rear.

The braking system, equipped with two-channel ABS, implements radial callipers to highlight the sportiness of the project and 320 mm discs on the front. On the rear, a 240 mm disc is gripped by a single-piston calliper.

Both the front and rear systems have metal braided brake lines derived from the aeronautic sector, which eliminate the annoying buffering effect of conventional lines and guarantee maximum braking precision.

Original Aprilia accessories range: for sport and touring

A wide range of accessories dedicated to sport and touring is available for the Shiver 900 as well. The former highlight the sport soul and the unmistakable Aprilia racing character: parts in precious carbon, billet aluminium components, such as brake and clutch fluid reservoir covers, brake and clutch levers and mirrors, as well as the must-have frame guard and fork bumpers. The accessories dedicated to touring increase the comfort of the Shiver 900, such as the comfort saddle, side panniers and the seat bag. As with the other Aprilia motorcycles, the Aprilia Multimedia Platform is available which, thanks to Bluetooth connectivity and the interface with handlebar controls and the new TFT display, allow the rider to manage and share all the trip information, from data on more sporty riding to touring-related information, with indications on consumption, routes and trip speeds, grip conditions and Aprilia service centre locations.

Aprilia Dorsoduro 900

The fun bike from Aprilia evolves with the sole objective of providing maximum riding fun. More performance from the revamped twin-cylinder engine, a tighter ride and better handling from the refined chassis architecture and the best available technology

Aprilia Dorsoduro is the fun bike par excellence. Born out of an ingenious intuition by Aprilia, it was built with the sole objective of providing the most possible road riding fun, drawing from the best characteristics of sport bikes and the best characteristics of supermotards. The result is a bike with advanced technical solutions, agile and with performance at the top of its category. A truly special bike, achieved not only thanks to Aprilia’s skills in packaging particularly efficient chassis architectures combined with high performance powerplants, but also thanks to collaboration with the Aprilia Racing Department, capable of earning a total of 54 world titles in the most difficult and selective competitions where they have participated, 7 of which in the world Supermoto championship.

Dorsoduro 900 is born out of Aprilia’s solid tradition in this motorcycle segment and it is a true thrill generator. The exclusivity is also due to its original and innovative technical choices, like the mixed steel trellis/aluminium plates frame with excellent handling and tight cornering characteristics. The 90° V-twin engine puts a smile on the rider’s face every time the throttle is twisted, thanks to the new characteristics of maximum torque and power that amplify its personality. The fine electronic management that includes, besides the Ride-by-wire multimap accelerator, traction control and ABS, complete the technical equipment on the Dorsoduro 900.

The design: the balancing point between form and function

The Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 project places riding fun at the centre of its focus: for this reason, the superstructures are reduced to the minimum indispensable, as anything that is not essential for performance and maximum riding pleasure has been foregone. The technical elements, on the other hand, play a fundamental role, becoming a fundamental part of the design. It is not just the hand guards on the handlebar and the number plate on the front that highlight the close bond with the racing world. The shape of the centre area, the one that most involves the rider during sporty riding, also highlight the design created to achieve optimized and compact dimensions that allow the rider to find the right feeling straight away. Aprilia engineers achieved this result by designing a long and flat saddle, clearly derived from the sports world, capable of ensuring the most effective riding position at all times and allowing plenty of room for longitudinal movement. The tail is one of the most representative aesthetic aspects of the Dorsoduro: sleek and slender, it also houses the double exhaust, a solution that allows for excellent proportional symmetry and weight distribution.

Better performance from the revamped V-twin engine

Starting from the 750 cc 90° V-twin engine base, well-known and popular because of its character and reliability, Aprilia developed a new 900 cc unit with the goal of obtaining more torque and response at low and medium rpms for a thrilling riding experience. The Aprilia V-twin was therefore revisited in numerous details to achieve this purpose. The new engine capacity was obtained by increasing the stroke from 56.4 mm to 67.4 mm and leaving the bore unchanged (92 mm). By so doing, maximum power now peaks at 95.2 HP at 8,750 rpm, but more important is the maximum torque value that goes from 8.4 kgm (82 Nm) at 4,500 rpm on the 750 cc V-twin to 9.17 kgm (90 Nm) at 6,500 rpm on the new 900 cc V-twin, a value that is truly at the top of its category. It should be noted that, despite the fact that maximum torque peak for the new 900 cc V-twin is reached a higher rpms, the torque curve is actually flatter and always higher than the 750 cc predecessor. This change allowed the acceleration response to be increased, all to the advantage of a fun ride, without limiting in any way whatsoever the proverbial reliability of the powerplant, that in any case, now benefits from a new internal lubrication circuit capable of limiting power loss due to churning and lubrication consumption. The exhaust system, fitted with a double oxygen sensor, contributes to bringing the engine to within the limits established by the Euro 4 pollution standard. Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 is also available in a limited-power 35 kW version, ideal for newly licensed riders.

New electronic management

Electronic engine management is now handled by the new and more powerful Marelli 7SM ECU that dialogues with the new full Ride-by-wire electronic accelerator system, completely built into the throttle grip. This system allows even more accurate management of the fuel/air mixture and the injection throttle valve opening based on numerous parameters including engine speed, gearbox position, air flow (in quantity and speed), throttle grip and temperature, with great benefits in terms of smooth riding without opening/closing jerks, containment of harmful emissions and fuel consumption. The engine is, therefore, always able to distribute the ideal torque and provide the best acceleration, all to the advantage of a satisfying and fun ride. The system also allows a weight reduction of 550 grams compared to the previous Ride-by-wire that equipped the Dorsoduro 750. The sophisticated electronic management also provides the possibility of changing the engine mapping, radically changing the character of how the power it is capable of developing is unloaded onto the ground. The Sport setting provides an immediate and aggressive throttle response; the Touring logic provides a smoother response, ideal for touring and daily use, whereas the Rain map is ideal in the event of difficult weather conditions or on slippery road surfaces. Dorsoduro 900 introduces a new Aprilia traction control system with sensitivity adjustable to three levels (it can also be disabled) to limit rear wheel spin by acting on ignition and the injection throttle valves. The Dorsoduro 900’s Aprilia Traction Control system is combined with a Continental two-channel ABS system that can also be disabled, with developed calibration in order not to take anything away from the sporty ride. The new electrical system places the engine control and management systems in communication with the new colour TFT digital instrumentation. The compact unit with a 4.3-inch screen contains a wealth of information that is always highly legible thanks to its capacity of adapting the background and font colours based on the conditions detected by the light sensor. One of the optional features is the AMP installation kit, the Aprilia multimedia platform that connects a smartphone to the vehicle to provide an exceptional quantity of information useful for the ride: the new instrumentation lets you view all the data related to incoming/current calls on the screen, as well as information related to the use of an intercom or any audio files that you may be playing.

Chassis architecture: better handling and control

All Aprilia bikes have always been considered a point of reference for their excellent chassis architecture. The Dorsoduro 900 chassis provides high characteristics of efficiency, balance, a tight ride and precision even in extreme track riding, but at the same time it is easy and intuitive for daily use. These qualities are the merit of the particular layout of its various elements.

The frame takes advantage of the know-how Aprilia has developed in racing competitions, drawing deeply from the experience gained on the mixed structures used in the Supermoto world championship. The trellis upper part in steel tubing (now painted red, like the saddle support frame) is combined with wide spread aluminium lateral plates using special, high-resistance bolts. The result is an extremely rigid and lightweight structure, the best solution for taking full advantage of the revamped capacity of the 900 cc V-twin, with an aesthetic impact that communicates light weight, extremely high technical content and Italian style. Another strongly distinctive technical feature is the lateral and inclined positioning of the shock absorber, a unit that is adjustable in spring preload and hydraulic rebound. This solution has created precious space for an optimum exhaust manifold layout, without having an impact on the length of the bike and without stressing the shock absorber thermally. The aluminium swingarm is sized to withstand the asymmetrical stress due to the lateral positioning of the shock absorber and it boasts the torsional stiffness and elasticity characteristics indispensable for precision at rest and the ride feeling in transitory stages.

On the Dorsoduro 900 a new Kayaba fork makes its début (combined with forged aluminium steering yoke plates), 450 grams lighter, adjustable in hydraulic rebound damping and spring preload and better capable of withstanding the stress of sport riding and absorbing bumps on the road surface, providing control in aggressive riding and greater comfort for those more relaxed rides. The overall improved performance of both the Dorsoduro 900 suspension systems is also due to the new pair of three-split-spoke wheels, more than 2 kg lighter than those that equipped the Dorsoduro 750. Reducing the gyroscopic effect increases handling and acceleration, as well as providing benefits for suspension performance because of the reduction of unsprung masses.

The Dorsoduro 900’s top shelf chassis structure is completed by a sport-derived braking system. The front end relies on radial 4-piston callipers and a pair of 320 mm steel floating discs, lightweight and capable of guaranteeing reduced braking distances and excellent modulability. The 240 mm rear disc is gripped by a single-piston calliper. Both the front and rear systems have metal braided brake lines derived from the aeronautic sector, which eliminate the annoying buffering effect of conventional lines and guarantee precision and resistance to force.

Original Aprilia accessories range: for sport and touring

A wide range of accessories dedicated to sport and touring is available for the Dorsoduro 900 as well. The former highlight the sport soul and the unmistakable Aprilia racing character: parts in precious carbon, billet aluminium components, such as brake and clutch fluid reservoir covers, brake and clutch levers and mirrors, as well as the must-have frame guard and fork bumpers. The accessories dedicated to touring increase the comfort of the Dorsoduro 900, such as the comfort saddle, side panniers and the seat bag.

Suzuki Launches Extended Small Capacity Lineup in Milan

Suzuki has further extended its small capacity model lineup for 2017, with four new machines unveiled today at Eicma, Milan, taking Suzuki’s total number of new models for the new year to 12.

Following the announcement of Suzuki’s flagship GSX-R1000R at Intermot, Eicma saw the Japanese manufacturer strengthen its offerings in the small capacity sector of the market, with a new V-Strom 250, GSX-S125, GSX250R, and Burgman 400 joining the newly unveiled GSX-R125 in the brand’s expanding sub-400cc range.

V-Strom 250
Suzuki’s V-Strom range has been combining two-wheeled practicality, style, and excitement since the introduction of the original V-Strom 1000 in 2002. With both a new V-Strom 1000 and V-Strom 650 debuted at Intermot – as well as XT variants of both popular adventure machines – Suzuki has further expanded its V-Strom stable for 2017, with the introduction of a new 250 model that brings all of those qualities to a broader range of riders.

A redesigned version of Suzuki’s 248cc parallel twin engine powers the new V-Strom 250, with a particular focus on the engine’s low and midrange torque giving the new adventure-styled machine 23.4Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. The punchy twin-cylinder power-plant revs on to produce peak power of 25PS at 8,000rpm.

Information is displayed to the rider on a reverse-lit LCD instrument panel, and includes information such as speedo, rev counter, gear position indicator, and fuel range, and sits inside a compact screen that has been extensively wind tunnel tested for optimised weather protection.

Similar to the bigger V-Strom 1000 and V-Strom 650 models, the V-Strom 250 benefits from an integrated luggage system that removes the requirement for an additional rack for the fitment of Suzuki’s genuine side cases. An additional top box is also available from Suzuki’s accessory range.

The V-Strom 250’s styling takes design cues from its larger siblings, with the beak design and the yellow colour option paying homage to Suzuki’s iconic DR-Z Dakar racer and current championship-winning RM-Z motocross range.

Forecasted arrival of the V-Strom 250 in UK dealerships is in the summer.

GSX250R
Further enhancing Suzuki’s range of A2 licence-friendly machines is the GSX250R, which combines sharp, sporty looks and nimble performance with comfortable ergonomics, and is as at home cutting through city traffic as it is taking the long way home on twisty B-roads.

Designed to give the best performance in the low to midrange, the GSX250R produces 23.4Nm of torque at 6,500rpm, with peak power 25PS at 8,000rpm. Intake valves are designed to optimise airflow into the combustion chamber, improving performance and reducing emissions to help meet stringent Euro4 regulation, while a new two-into-one exhaust enhances performance in the midrange.

Clip-on handlebars give a direct, sporty, yet comfortable ride, which matches the GSX250R’s design as a sporty-styled machine that is equally comfortable on the daily commute or a weekend tour.

The GSX250R is set to arrive in dealerships in late spring.

GSX-S125
Following the unveiling of the all-new GSX-R125 at Intermot, Suzuki is bringing another offering to the popular 125 market with its naked GSX-S125.

Joining the GSX-S family alongside the GSX-S1000 and newly-revealed GSX-S750, the GSX-S125 boasts a class-leading power-to-weight ratio and class-leading acceleration performance, thanks to it’s high performance 125cc engine and 133kg kerb weight – the lightest in its class.

The GSX-S125 uses an advanced fuel injection system and big-bore throttle body for optimised fuel delivery, while a large 4.3 litre air box doesn’t impact the bike’s slim and narrow design while enhancing engine performance.

Agile and nimble handling is achieved with a lightweight chassis design and narrow profile, which also benefit the GSX-S125 when filtering through city traffic.

Suzuki’s easy-start function features, with rider information displayed on a full LCD dash. Like the GSX-R family it shares its DNA with, the GSX-S125 gets a full LED headlight and LED position lights.

The compact but aggressively styled 125 roadster is expected to arrive in the summer.

Burgman 400
Suzuki’s original Burgman 400 pioneered the launch of the maxi-scooter, combining comfort, practicality, and style, with ease of performance. It gained a reputation as a capable commuter and tourer, with plentiful storage capacity for trips into town and weekends away.

For 2017, the new Burgman 400 gets a comprehensive restyling. The new face features sharp LED headlights with integrated LED position lights. A new upswept windscreen design optimises weather protection, a new stepped seat is 20mm thicker to improve rider and pillion comfort, while new grab rails and rear design completes the slimmer, sharper look.

Underneath, the 399cc, single cylinder engine gets a fuel injection system with an O2 feedback system and newly designed catalyser.

Increased frame rigidity improves cornering performance and stability, helped by slimmer, lighter bodywork. A lighter ABS unit saves 750g over the outgoing model. Handling performance is also enhanced with a new 15-inch front wheel that improves stability while still providing agile handling. 41mm telescopic front forks pair with a link-type monoshock rear suspension with seven-way adjustable preload, unique in the maxi-scooter class.

Practicality comes from 42 litres of under-seat storage, while two compartments at the front provide a combined 6.3 litre storage space. There’s also a 12V DC outlet.

A ‘chain lock gate’ allows riders to secure the Burgman 400 when parked by passing a chain through a gap in the bodywork and around the frame, before fastening to a ground anchor or other immovable object. The rear brake can also be locked on, and Suzuki’s Advanced Immobiliser System (SAIS) uses an electronic identification system in the owner’s key to prevent potential thieves from starting the engine. A magnetic cover that opens only for the owner’s key protects the ignition switch for added security.

The 2017 Burgman 400 is set to appear in dealerships late in the spring

Moto Guzzi V9 MY17

The Moto Guzzi V9 motorcycle range evolves under the sign of comfort

V9 Roamer And V9 Bobber, the lightweight easy cruisers, easy and thrilling to ride, are now more comfortable, ready for the voyage that is in the soul of every eagle from Mandello

V9 roamer is the elegant and universal custom; v9 bobber represents the bold and essential Moto Guzzi soul. Both stand out for the exceptional quality of their components and for the high grade finishes

They are both powered by the Moto Guzzi 850 cc twin cylinder euro 4 engine with unprecedented torque, smoothness and responsiveness that contribute to improving the ride of the two italian cruisers.

Custom motorcycles are nothing new in nearly a century of Moto Guzzi history. Indeed this segment includes some of the most famous, best loved and biggest selling Mandello bikes, of which the California is the undisputed queen. Following in the tradition and the success of this 1971 model, Moto Guzzi designed and built mid-sized models, which met the demands of a growing range of users. These included the V35 Custom from 1979, later replaced by the better looking V50, in turn replaced by the V65 Florida, and then the famous and appreciated Nevada, launched in 1989 on the basis of the proven V75 1985. This continues all the way down to 2007 with the modern and stylish Bellagio.

Three essential features, deriving from a unique motorcycle culture, are common to all generations of custom Moto Guzzis:

– This is the highly personal design, in which the special and unique engine configuration plays a decisive stylistic role, always the focus of attention, as well as the sinuous tank and low exhaust pipes;

– the legendary 90° transversal V-twin engine, introduced in 1967;

– Riding pleasure in all conditions, granted by the recognised superior riding qualities all Moto Guzzis that have captured the hearts of generations of users on roads around the world.

That same motorcycle culture inspires the two Moto Guzzi motorcycles. V9 Roamer is a universal easy and intuitive custom, beautiful to show off and rewarding to ride, full of unique details and outstanding finishes. The V9 Bobber expresses an altogether darker and more nocturnal soul. It has large tyres and as a total black look.

The MY 17 V9 units, the result of the constant perfecting that Moto Guzzi dedicates to its bikes, are now distinguished by a big difference, with two clearly distinct personalities: one more touring and the other sportier.

Both of the MY 17 V9 machines evolve under the sign of comfort and a focus on long trips, introducing different riding positions, more comfortable saddles and an entire range of accessories dedicated to touring.

V9: you can feel the quality

With such explicit references to style and technology recurrent throughout the history of Moto Guzzi, the V9 could only be beautiful, fun and safe. In particular, Moto Guzzi has focused its greatest efforts on the definition of a design that would enhance the sculptural forms of the twin-cylinder 850 made in Mandello. In addition, a great deal of attention was paid to perceived quality: Exceptional care has gone into the finish and components on the V9 Roamer and V9 Bobber. They represent a new way of conceiving the medium-sized motorcycle. Touching the surfaces, we can feel the wide use of high quality materials such as steel and aluminium, while plastic parts are reduced to a minimum. The metal teardrop fuel tank on both V9s, with its 15-litre capacity, is finished with a fine coating with the Moto Guzzi logo on top, protected by clear varnish. The front and rear fenders are also made of metal. The side panels, petrol cap and brake and clutch levers, however, are made of lightweight aluminium. the ergonomic electrical blocks also have aluminium finish housings, just as the rider footpegs are made of aluminium. The steel exhaust manifolds are protected by a second tube, which, by creating an air cavity, helps to lower the heat emitted and preserve the outer surfaces.

The welds of the frame and the quality of its paintwork are immaculately finished, as are the meticulous details of the 90° transverse V-twin engine, not only in terms of the casting but also the matt black that brings out the Moto Guzzi branding milled on the aluminium cylinder head covers. It pays to look at the intimate details of these two motorcycles, their touch conveying the entire construction tradition and culture so typical of the best Moto Guzzi models.

V9 Roamer: Moto Guzzi’s cosmopolitan custom

Versatility has always been a key factor in the success of custom Moto Guzzis. Guzzi enthusiasts have ridden the big California as well as the small Nevada down busy city streets and, with a few changes for luggage, on long and adventurous journeys. Glamorous, easy, convenient and rewarding to ride, like all Moto Guzzis, the V9 Roamer is the Italian custom bike dedicated to the citizens of the world. The Piaggio Group Centro Stile developed the design, with input from the PADC (Piaggio Advanced Design Center) in Pasadena (California), the birthplace of motorcycle trends that then spread worldwide. The V9 Roamer is a superb combination of a classic and essential style with high-level finishings, showing off the unique architecture of the 850 twin-cylinder. Great care has gone into the details of the wheel rims (19″ front and 16″ rear) painted in matt black and treated with a diamond-cut finish, as well as the multi-function digital dashboard with a single circular dial.

On board comfort is improved on the V9 Roamer MY 17 thanks to a different riding position, dictated by quality crafted footpegs mounted 100 mm farther back and raised 35 mm. The advantage is two-fold: posture in the saddle is more active and extended, therefore ideal for taking full advantage of the chassis architecture qualities and at the same time space and comfort is increased even for taller riders. The saddle is also new – characterized by the generous padding brought out by the stitching – now longer and more comfortable for both rider and passenger and enhanced by the Moto Guzzi logo stitched in grey. The height off the ground is just 785 mm and it is combined with a raised, chromium handlebar with an extremely comfortable grip. This new triangulation thus offers all bikers riding comfort, ease of handling of the vehicle when stationary and feeling during dynamic riding. Moto Guzzi V9 Roamer therefore inherits the legacy left behind by the legendary Nevada 750, still in the range for more than two decades with some appropriate updates, and it strives to be a small granturismo bike, if outfitted with the new genuine accessories designed for travel, such as the larger windshield, the brand new luggage rack with removable backrest and the set of dedicated panniers.

The range of available accessories also includes the forward-set footpegs kit that restores the riding position of the first V9 Roamer series.

The advancements implemented on the 2017 V9 models are also available for the 2016 V9. In fact, the new saddle and the footpegs, decisive elements for the new ergonomics, are available as options and can be installed on the first V9 Roamer series too.

The V9 also upholds Moto Guzzi’s successful tradition of keeping the overall weight to a minimum. If the V7 III and California 1400 are already among the lightest bikes in their respective segments. The V9’s 199 kg kerb weight is a true record for its class. The reduced mass, combined with the V9 Roamer’s superb riding quality and great low-end torque offered by the 850 two-cylinder, gives feeling, handling and unique riding pleasure. The V9 Roamer is a true mid-size light motorcycle, not just for people who love and know Moto Guzzi motorcycle culture, but also those who have always loved the design of custom motorcycles, but have never bought one because of the weight and poor handling of almost all models in the sector.

V9 Bobber: Moto Guzzi has created a new segment

The name V9 Bobber evokes concepts such as its essential line, pure design and thus a certain original sporting content, underlined by a total matt black look. Moto Guzzi’s custom sports bike effectively creates the mid-size bobber series segment, in which the V9 is currently the only representative. Bobbers appeared in the United States after World War II, built by passionate riders who stripped away all details superfluous to their goal of running fast on dirt tracks. To compete in these conditions the riders used to mount oversized tyres, giving the bikes a wide footprint. In line with this style, the V9 Bobber abandons any chrome plating and glossy finish for matt black details. The side panels and fuel tank are thus pitch black, with just a few graphic details in yellow or matt red. The exhaust unit, mirrors and both metal mudguards are painted in “dark matt”. The rear mudguard has been carefully shortened and reduced in size, so as well as including a very compact optical unit, it makes a big contribution to the minimal look of the V9 Bobber. The matt black wheel rims, both 16 inches, are elegantly decorated with the Moto Guzzi logo in grey; the front rim is shod with a tyre that has an oversized shoulder (130/90). Even with these spectacular tyres and distinctive design, the bike still maintains characteristics of exceptional riding pleasure and handling. Indeed the V9 Bobber is a true Moto Guzzi, and as such does not trade rideability for beauty. The MY 17 V9 Bobber also differs from the V9 Roamer because of the more crouched and sporty riding position, provided by the lower, black painted drag bar handlebar and the aluminium footpegs mounted 100 mm farther back and raised 35 mm. This technical choice guarantees a more active and extended posture and ensures more on board space and comfort, even for taller riders. The forward-mounted footpegs kit is also available as an option for the V9 Bobber, whereas the new series footpegs and saddle can be installed on the 2016 models in order to make the new ergonomics available to all V9 owners.

The MY 2017 generation of the V9 Bobber, despite the single-seater, aggressive look, is ready and approved to carry a passenger. The new rider saddle is more padded and comfortable and it come standard with pillion seating. The passenger footpegs and saddle are easily removable to make the V9 a true single-seater. The ground clearance of the latter is only 785 mm, and if you add to this the low total kerb weight of 199 kg, it is not hard to imagine the level of comfort, control and riding pleasure the V9 Bobber provides.

The 850 twin-cylinder Moto Guzzi engine

The MY 2017 V9 Roamer and V9 Bobber versions are fitted with a Moto Guzzi 850 cc engine, built as always in the Mandello del Lario plant. This is of course a 90° transverse V-twin air and oil cooled engine, a set-up used in all current Moto Guzzi engines, albeit with different engine capacities and performance, able to ensure excellent riding dynamics and a unique sound. It was developed with the explicit aim of maximising torque and elasticity, key aspects for ensuring riding pleasure and on road fun. Starting from the bottom of the engine, the aluminium crankcase stiffened at the key points, has an efficient oil pan and an inertia calibrated crankshaft for liveliness and the correct engine braking. Inside the lubrication system is designed to dispose of the greater heat capacity and reduce power absorption to the benefit of both performance and fuel consumption. The ventilation system reduces power loss due to pumping within the crank chambers and a low flow oil pump that absorbs less power. The oil pump intake duct is unprecedented, as well as the related bypass valve; new piston cooling oil jets are also used, fitted with a control valve and flow management. The alternator cover is also unique and now includes the blow-by gas output.

In the upper part of the engine, aluminium heads, pistons and cylinders are designed to make the most of the engine’s characteristics. Its cubic capacity is obtained due to bore and stroke values of 84×77 mm. Timing is controlled by a rods and rockers system and uses 2 valves per cylinder arranged at an angle in the head. The fuel supply uses a one-piece Marelli electronic injection system, managed by the specific ECU. Of note is the presence in the entrance heads of the auxiliary air system, which, combined with the three-way catalytic converter, the double oxygen sensor and the total design of the engine, bring the twin 850 Moto Guzzi into compliance with Euro 4 standards. The unit is capable of 62 Nm of torque at just 3,000 rpm, with a maximum power of 55 HP at 6,250 rpm, figures that show Moto Guzzi’s commitment to achieving high levels of torque even at low rpms. This engine boasts surprising character and responsiveness, which contribute to a really exciting riding experience. A version with limited power is available, in line with the limitations of the A2 license and ideal for new Guzzi riders, who can also enjoy a record low total weight and the general ease of riding of both V9 versions.

Another innovative aspect of the 850 Moto Guzzi engine is the 170 mm diameter single dry plate clutch, providing a perfect transmission of torque and power with no jerkiness or hesitation. This increases robustness and reliability over time and decreases the load on the handlebar lever, for better controllability and riding comfort. The six-speed gearbox, precise and with a soft clutch, benefits from unprecedented ratios that make the most of the torque and engine power. The final transmission is carried out by a double-jointed drive shaft offset by the increased size and the bevel gear, which provides solid and reliable management of the powerful torque supplied by the twin engine. The cast aluminium swingarm has been designed and sized to support engine performance, as well as to accommodate the 150 mm tyre.

Chassis architecture: the quality of the Moto Guzzi tradition

Carlo Guzzi was probably the first to understand the importance of a frame able to exploit the full potential of the engine and a suspension unit that responds perfectly to the imperfections in the road surface. Indeed, the Norge GT of 1928 was the first motorcycle with a “spring frame”, equipped with front and rear suspension, bringing enormous advantages in terms of safety and riding pleasure. The Moto Guzzi tradition is full of models recognised for their excellent ride qualities: in terms of custom motorcycles, we should really mention the California, which in 1970, under the name V7 Police, was bought by the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department) after a series of tough tests.

On the back of this tradition, Moto Guzzi now builds motorcycles like the V7 III and the fleet of the big 1400s, which are real benchmarks in terms of handling in their respective segments. The V9 is another jewel from Moto Guzzi for riding pleasure and effectiveness. The steel twin tube cradle frame, creates optimum weight distribution on the front and rear of the engine, thereby providing the rideability and dynamic balance typical of all motorcycles built at Mandello del Lario. The designers paid special attention to the front, which has gussets in the steering head and new slope and trail abilities, making for a superb ride with the perfect combination of handling and stability, as well as precision and feeling. In addition, the entire structure benefited from painstaking care and finishing of the details, including the welding and paintwork. The suspension systems use traditional long-travel (130 mm) forks and a pair of spring preload adjustable shock absorbers connected to the frame, which provide a gradual and controlled response at all times. The braking system is customised for the V9: the front end adopts a master cylinder and a Brembo opposed 4-piston calliper that grips a 320 mm steel disc; the rear mounts a 260 mm disc and a two-piston floating calliper operated by a master cylinder with built-in reservoir.

Equipment: all for safety and riding pleasure

Like all recent Moto Guzzis, the V9 also has a full set of advanced electronic systems, placed very discreetly inside the vehicle, making riding safer and easier. The motorcycles come with a standard advanced two-channel ABS, non-invasive in normal riding, but that prevent the wheels from locking when really needed and the well-known MGCT (Moto Guzzi Traction Control), Moto Guzzi’s advanced traction control integrated with the electronic engine management system and adjustable in two different levels of operation and that can be deactivated, ensuring better grip of the rear tyre on any road surface, reducing engine torque if necessary through a reduction of the advance of the engine. Other standard features include an immobiliser and USB port located under the steering head, useful for charging external devices.

The electronic instrumentation, made up of a single circular display, is also consistent with the style of the two the V9s. The speedometer has an analogue dial, while all other information is contained in the digital box: odometer, partial trip and daily trip (with automatic reset after eight hours after shutdown), the trip time, instantaneous and average fuel consumption, clock, outside temperature, average speed, MGCT level, in addition to the gear position and shift indicator, whose idle and maximum value can be adjusted by the user. In this way the rider can keep a check on a determined range of engine revolutions, for example for the run-in, or to minimise fuel consumption. The extensive catalogue of accessories includes the MG-MP, the Moto Guzzi multimedia platform that connects a smartphone to the vehicle to provide an exceptional quantity of information useful for the journey.

Moto Guzzi Media Platform connects the V9 to the world

An optional multimedia platform is available for Moto Guzzi V9 Roamer and V9 Bobber riders. MG-MP is the innovative multimedia system which allows you to connect the bike to your smartphone and consequently to the web. With this application, downloadable free from App Store and Google Play, your smartphone (iPhone or Android) becomes an actual sophisticated on board multifunctional computer and the link between the vehicle and the Internet.

The wireless connection allows you to simultaneously view a set of vehicle information on a smartphone screen, so you can constantly have an eye on the travel parameters. The smartphone’s touch screen allows you to view five parameters of your choice at a time, selected from a vast menu and including the speedometer, rev counter, instant power, instant torque, instant and average fuel consumption, average speed and battery voltage, longitudinal acceleration and extended trip computer. The “Eco Ride” feature helps to limit fuel consumption and to maintain eco-compatible riding conduct, providing a brief assessment of the results obtained during the trip.

You can record trip data and review it on your computer or directly on your smartphone, analysing the distance covered along with the vehicle’s operating parameters. The system also allows you to easily locate your vehicle when you park in a strange place, automatically saving the position where it was switched off. MG-MP includes the “Grip Warning” function which replicates the indications on traction control operation for maximum visibility and provides information in real time on your riding performance with relation to the road surface conditions. A dedicated indicator light warns in the event of excessive use of available grip. Thanks to the synergistic use of gyroscopes and the information coming from the vehicle, the smartphone becomes a sophisticated instrument to measure the lean angle in turns thanks to algorithms developed specifically for this Moto Guzzi. The limit thresholds can be set both for lean angle as well as vehicle and engine speed. When these limits are exceeded the relative indicator lights will come on or the virtual dashboard will flash.

Ducati World Première 2017, “More than Red: Evolution never stops”

“More than Red: Evolution never stops” is the title of the Ducati World Première 2017. This key event has allowed Ducati to present – to both the press and thousands of fans – the six new motorcycles to be showcased at EICMA 2016, the 74th edition of the International Motorcycle Show being held at the Milan-Rho Trade Fair Centre from 10 to 13 November.

Bikes, strategies and goals: a global event in live streaming that saw Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, unveil the latest motorcycles and sum up developments on both the market and at Ducati. Buoyed by a record-breaking performance in 2016 which saw motorcycle sales break the 50,000 barrier – thanks to new products, innovative technology and future-oriented planning – it’s a solid, confident Ducati that heads to Milan. These are true ‘dream bikes’, ready to thrill the crowds and confirm this iconic brand’s pivotal place in the motorcycle industry.

“More than Red: Evolution never stops represents the very essence of Ducati 2017 as presented this evening”, stated Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding. “RED for passion, performance, racing, and MORE to indicate a product range that continues to grow, including not only more accessible, differentiated models, but also unprecedented levels of service. A key example of this is the new used Ducati certification and warranty scheme, called Ducati Approved, which makes access to the Ducati world even easier by offering all the economic advantages of a used product but with assurance and guarantees on a par with those of new ones. To close what was a fantastic evening we also had Chaz, DesmoDovi and Casey, together with the most incredible bike ever built by Ducati, the 1299 Superleggera“.

Taking centre-stage at the Ducati World Première 2017 were the new motorcycles that complete and extend the Ducati range for 2017. Of the eight new motorcycles set to join Model Year 2017, no less than six were unveiled on the eve of EICMA (preceded by the SuperSport, already successfully presented at INTERMOT 2016, the international fair held in Cologne last 3 – 9 October). The eighth and last new bike, instead, will arrive in January 2017. During the Ducati World Première Claudio Domenicali announced a new deal with renowned clothing brand Diesel which – following the success of the Monster Diesel presented in 2013 – will see the arrival of a Diavel Diesel, a new, unique interpretation of this mutually rewarding partnership.

There’s only one motorcyle that’s instantly recognisable without having to check what’s written on the tank: the Monster. Much more than a bike, it’s an icon that, for an incredible twenty-four years, has defined both a segment and an original “made in Ducati” motorcycling philosophy. For 2017 the Monster family is being renewed and extended with the arrival of the new 1200 and a fresh 797. The Monster 1200 is packed with new design and content, but retains that pure Monster essence. Shaping, silhouettes, fuel tank and headlight are faithful to the lines of the motorcycle that came out in 1993. Available also as a higher-performance S version, the Monster 1200 has a sleeker tank, a fully redesigned sports-style tail, an all-new, technologically advanced headlight and a first-rate electronics package derived from the one on the 1299 Panigale.

Sporty, compact, essential yet incredibly stylish and up to date, the Monster 797 embodies all the allure of the Monster and represents the gateway to the Ducati world. Everything on the Monster 797 recalls the iconic ’90s bike but with cutting-edge modernity: from tank to Trellis frame, from air-cooled L-twin engine to the round headlight.

Another major new unveiling at the Ducati World Première 2017 regards the new Multistrada 950, the Bologna-based bike manufacturer’s smallest “multibike”, designed to provide all the excitement of the Multistrada in a more accessible, versatile way. Designed to put great performance within everyone’s grasp, the Multistrada 950 is for those who want to get in some touring (and perhaps enjoy the company of a passenger) and those who want an agile fun bike that’s ideal for everyday use.

Ducati Scrambler will be at EICMA with two great new bikes, further extending the range of the new Ducati brand. The first is the Ducati Scrambler Cafe Racer, an interpretation of the legendary ’60s bikes that triggered a motorcycling revolution. Free spirit and style: with its “Black Coffee” colour scheme, the Ducati Scrambler Cafe Racer takes us from the 1960s all the way to today’s Land of Joy. With 17’’ wheels and “racer” handlebars, the bike has also been given a complete rear-end re-design in pure Cafe Racer style.

The second exciting addition to the 2017 range is the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled. A bike that evokes the spirit of the off-road American bikes of the ’70s and ’80s and extends the Scrambler range even further. Thanks to the modified frame and suspension, the spoked wheels (19″ at the front) and alluring, ground-breaking lines, this bike is simply perfect for those who want to be able to get off the asphalt and take a less-beaten track – but always in that unique “Land of Joy” spirit. The off-road capability of the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled is also evident in the type-approved headlight mesh guard, the off-road style footpegs with removable rubber pads, the high mudguards (specially designed for this version) and, of course, the engine skid plate.

The “grand finale” of the Ducati World Première 2017 came with the arrival on stage of the 1299 Superleggera, ridden by Casey Stoner, esteemed ambassador of this gem of design and technology. With the 1299 Superleggera, Ducati takes road sport bikes to unprecedented levels: it’s the first road bike to feature carbon fibre frame, swingarm, subframe and wheels. It’s a concentrate of engineering, technology and performance – something which until now has never been implemented on a factory-produced model by a motorcycle manufacturer – in a limited edition of just 500 bikes.

And underneath that carbon fibre skin lies the highest-performing version of the Superquadro. Thanks to its 215 hp (EURO 4 compliant), the desmodromic engine on the 1299 Superleggera is the most powerful factory twin-cylinder ever built; it incorporates the very highest levels of Ducati technology and is set to steal the limelight at EICMA 2016.

In addition to Casey Stoner, illustrious participants at the Ducati World Première 2017 included two official Ducati riders, Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) and Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), respectively the winners of the last MotoGP in Sepang and the last six Superbike races.

Ducati and Ducati Scrambler will be at EICMA 2016 in Hall 18, on Stands G76 and G68.

Yamaha Reveals the Race Ready 2017 YZF-R6

Yamaha Motor Europe N.V. welcomed all thrill seekers into ‘ouR World’ with the launch of the race-ready YZF-R6 during the EICMA International Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan. Inspired by YZR-M1 technology with the distinctive R-Series design, the showcasing of this full-blooded racing machine was Yamaha’s first step in preparing its customers and racers for what’s to come in the next year, when the YZF-R6 will demonstrate its racing excellence on track, chasing glory in the 2017 FIM Supersport World Championship.

GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team’s Lucas Mahias and Federico Caricasulo as well as Kallio Yamaha Supported WorldSSP Team’s Niki Tuuli and Sheridan Morais attended the EICMA Press Conference to get a first glimpse of the 2017 YZF-R6. This new middleweight Supersport bike is incredibly similar to their racing bikes for next season due to the championship’s regulations that only allow very subtle alterations made to the consumer bike’s cylinder head, gearbox, suspension, rear shock, front fork, electronic system and brake disks.

Having won the FIM Supersport World Championship three times in the last seven years (2009: Cal Crutchlow / 2011:Chaz Davies / 2013: Sam Lowes), the YZFR6 has already proved it’s top of the line, but that hasn’t stopped Yamaha from taking it one step further with the new 2017 model.

M1 and R1-inspired design

As the YZF-R6 is to re-enter the WorldSSP Championship in 2017, Yamaha have completely restyled the 600cc Supersport bike with a radical new look to match its ambitions. The new design is clearly inspired by the latest generation MotoGP and WorldSBK models – the M1-type central forced air intake, recessed LED twin headlights and new YZF-R1 style tail just being three examples – giving the bike an intense look that’s instantly recognizable as being a member of the R-series family, while its own unique character still shines through.

Most efficient YZF-R6 aerodynamics

The YZF-R6 is known for its light handling, agility and speed. Yamaha’s Supersport design team has been working relentlessly to push the performance in each of these areas and their hard work has paid off. A new front cowl, windscreen and a low drag front fairing, developed using some of the key elements from the YZF-R1, give a significant improvement of 8% in aerodynamic efficiency. Additionally, the YZF-R6 also comes with a new slimline magnesium rear subframe that’s 20mm narrower at the front, allowing the rider to tuck in more closely to the tank for a more streamlined rider position, while a newly designed seat and rear subframe make it quicker and easier for the rider to shift his body weight.

Sophisticated electronic control technology

The YZF-R6 has always been a frontrunner, both in terms of getting the results on track and being the first to adopt innovative technology. Besides being equipped with a Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) and a Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake (YCC-I) for a high degree of controllability in a wide range of conditions, the new YZF-R6 comes with an advanced Traction Control System (TCS) that is adjustable by a switch on the handlebars. The YZF-R6 also comes equipped with a new Quick Shift System (QSS) for even faster gear changing. This system is similar to the design used on the YZF-R1, and instantly cancels drive torque when an upshift is detected – enabling full throttle clutchless
upshifts for outstanding acceleration through the close ratio 6-speed transmission.

Special Racing Component

Other outstanding bike features of the YZF-R6 displayed at EICMA include the full race fairing (consisting of a two-piece front and single piece seat), an Akrapovic Evo full Titanium exhaust, dual Brembo T-drive front brakes (disc Ø 320 mm), single Brembo rear brake (disc Ø 220 mm), telescopic forks (Ø 43 mm) front suspension with Ohlins Cartridge kit, and threaded Pirelli Diablo tyres (front: 120/70 ZR17M/C, rear: 180/55 ZR17M/C) as per championship regulations.

Alongside the genuine accessories, the showcased racing features are all available through the official Yamaha dealer network.

Heated gloves or grips?

Heated grips have long been a popular choice for motorcyclists looking to winter-proof their ride, but they have some limitations compared to heated gloves.

Alongside the inconvenience and expense of fitting, grips only heat the palms and inside of the fingers, not the outside areas, which are exposed to the icy wind when riding.

Heated grips can also have a detrimental effect on the waterproof liners commonly used in winter riding gloves. Wicking/breathable fabrics work by allowing smaller less dense water molecules (perspiration) out, and stopping the larger and cooler water molecules (rain) from getting in. Heated grips can heat the water molecules on the outside of the glove, reducing their size and effectively reversing the way the membrane works. The moisture inside the glove increases and the hands and fingers become cold and damp.

KEiS heated gloves feature Micro Alloy-Fibre Technology, which provides reliable and even heat right around the hand, whilst still allowing easy movement and feel – crucial for delicate operation of the controls during winter riding conditions.

KEiS produce both inner and outer heated gloves, all of which come with a fused supply lead for connection to a 12v vehicle battery (an adaptor for 12v sockets is also available).

Both the X800i and X900 outer gloves have easy-to-use integral controllers, so riders can tailor the temperature whilst on the move, and feature waterproof/breathable liners. The X900 gloves can be powered by optional rechargeable battery packs that fit neatly into the cuffs, while the X800i feature hard reinforcement over the knuckles.
