Smart Tool Box for BMW 1250 GS

Wunderlich’s popular Smart Tool Box is now available to fit BMW R1200 and R1250 GS models without pannier frames.

Waterproof, lightweight, tough and lockable, the Smart Tool Box mounts to the GS’ subframe and provides a handy place to stash tools, first aid and other essentials.

It’s made from strong injection moulded plastic, so weighs less than a metal box and is much more robust than a fabric tool roll.

Fully lockable, it comes in two versions: one supplied with its own keys and the other with a ‘codeable’ lock, which allows it to be operated with the bike’s ignition key.

Though compact  – it measures just 325 x 105 x 230 mm – it’s surprisingly spacious, with a 4.5 litre capacity, more than similar boxes on the market.

A handy rear door means contents can be accessed with soft panniers in place – no need to remove them or disturb contents at the side of the road. The lid has a retaining strap so it can’t accidentally be left at the side of the road too.

The Wunderlich Smart Tool Box is priced at £199 for the version with two separate keys, and £219 with the codeable lock (prices include VAT).

It fits the R1200 GS LC (2013–20), R1200 Adventure (2014-20), R1250 GS (2019-on) and R1250 Adventure (2020-on).

It attaches to existing mounting points – no drilling required – via two black powder-coated aluminium mounting plates. Fittings and easy to follow instructions are included.

Wunderlich also offer a Cordura inner bag, tailored to fit the Tool Box perfectly, which sells for £139 including VAT and includes:

  • Motorbike first aid kit
  • Slime tyre repair kit incl. CO2 cartridges
  • Hazard vest EN ISO 20471
  • Head torch (batteries included)
  • 360° LED warning light
  • BMW multitool with bits
  • Medium strength thread lock
  • Folding funnel
  • Wunderlich black straps 200cm
  • 10 x zip ties
  • Power fabric tape EXTRA

Stefano Manzi Joins Soomer For at Dynavolt Triumph For 2022

Dynavolt Triumph are pleased to confirm that Moto2™ regular Stefano Manzi will join Hannes Soomer to complete the team line-up in the 2022 World Supersport Championship.

Stefano is an experienced rider. His career started back in 2007 and he went through many victories and categories until he made his leap into the World Championship in 2015 in Moto3™. Two years later he made his debut in Moto2™ with the Sky Racing Team VR46 and since then the intermediate class has been his field.

The 22-year-old from Rimini now moves across to the World Supersport category for a new challenge in 2022 with the UK based official factory Dynavolt Triumph team, great opportunity for both sides to grow together sharing their experience in racing.

Stefano Manzi: “I am really happy to be part of this Team and part of the project to bring Triumph back to the World Championship. Now I am focused on my winter training to be 100% ready for the beginning of the season. I cannot wait to be back on track and on my new bike.”

VR46 Riders Academy Sporting Director, Alessio Salucci “The whole VR46 Riders Academy is beyond pleased with the agreement reached with the Dynavolt Triumph team. It’s a great chance for Stefano to be part of this project supported by such a highly experienced manufacturer as Triumph. World Supersport is a very competitive category and I am sure that he’ll be able to make a great job together with his new team.”

Dynavolt Triumph Team Manager, Simon Buckmaster: “We’re really pleased to sign Stefano Manzi from the VR46 Academy to ride with the Dynavolt Triumph team in our return to World Supersport this year. He is an exciting prospect with good performance level in his seasons in Moto2™. He had a top six finish towards the end of last year so he’s on good form. He did a couple of wild cards in World SSP so understands the Pirelli tyres and of course, understands the Triumph engine well. I won’t say he is going to surprise a few because a lot of people think he is going to be a good front runner and that is what we want, challenging for race wins and the title. We can’t wait to get started testing in March with Stefano and of course with Hannes.”

BMW Motorrad reveals R 18 M and R 18 Aurora at the Verona Motor Bike Expo

Exclusive custom bikes were developed by two famous Italian customizers with support of BMW Motorrad Italia and the dealer network.

The Verona Motor Bike Expo has been the perfect stage to bring to the eyes of Italian and European enthusiasts two exclusive motorcycle customization projects based on the iconic BMW R 18.

These are the result of the collaboration of BMW Motorrad Italy and its dealer network with some of the historical players of this world. The R 18 M is a project developed by Italian Magazine LowRide and created by American Dreams. The R 18 Aurora, was created by Garage 221 that was engaged by BMW Motorrad Roma.

BMW R 18 M

BMW R 18 M.
M is the letter that distinguished the sport versions of BMW four-wheeled models, and today it also includes two-wheeled vehicles. The source of inspiration for the BMW R 18 M project by the editorial staff of LowRide is the following: the idea is to give the BMW Cruiser a more streamlined and sportier look, avoiding exaggerations and especially without forgetting the reference to the BMW R 18 retro lines.

“Stability, long wheelbase and readiness of the 1800 cc big boxer instigate lightning starts and deserve, in our opinion, a sporty and retro look. In the R 18 M design, we find suggestions from BMW Motorrad tradition and cues from the four-wheelers: M stands for Motorsport” as Giuseppe Roncen, director of LowRide and a great expert of the world of specials, described the BMW R 18 M project.

The work has focused on chassis, suspension set-up, bodywork, and accessories, leaving mechanics and electronics unchanged as the natural strengths of the R 18. Lightened and with a different riding position, the BMW R 18 M promises to be even more fun to ride: “We remain curious to experience its potential. Significantly lightened, the bike should also be easy to handle due to its riding position, which is more compact and forward loaded, without exaggeration.”

Built by many hands, from designers to experienced craftsmen.
The R 18 M project was made possible by BMW Italia and was born in the wake of the emotions that this bike can give: a fun cruiser, powerful and lively, with a big heart and an infinite torque. LowRide has involved some of the best Italian craftsmanship and companies specialized in the sector. The realization of the sketches was entrusted to designer Oberdan Bezzi, already a partner of LowRide in the past. He has managed to make it an exciting power cruiser without upsetting the essence of the BMW R 18. American Dreams handled the assembly and coordinated the work; Elaboratorio, specializing in prototyping and modeling, created tail, tip and fiberglass windshield from scratch. Carbon Italy handled the head covers, intake ducts, and other carbon fiber details. The short exhaust pipe, designed to make the line more compact and allow greater lean angles, bears the signature of ER Exhaust Revolution. The short exhaust pipes also give greater prominence to the splendid uncovered nickel-plated shaft, an evocative detail that deserves to be highlighted. L.R. Leather covered the saddle in leather, while the paintwork was entrusted to Dox Art Factory. Rizoma provided mirrors, grips, and universal indicators for the accessories, perfectly in line with the bike’s character.

BMW R 18 Aurora

BMW R 18 Aurora.
The idea and desire of Garage 221 to create a custom bike based on the BMW R 18 found its origins a while ago, at the presentation of the bike at EICMA 2019. The lines of the new BMW cruiser, innovative and at the same time faithfully traditional, deserved “complementary elements and an even more Heritage spirit, starting from the soft lines of the tank to the characteristic shapes of the boxer,” in the opinion of Pier Francesco Marchio of Garage 221.

The project initially focused on the study of the different sections of the bike, keeping in mind the need to connect the new elements in a unique harmony of lines, taking inspiration from the cruisers of the 1970s, which have always particularly involved Pier Francesco “for their impressive aesthetic fluidity.” Distinctive elements of the
BMW R 18 Aurora by Garage 221 are the wraparound fenders and adherent to the wheel, like the “batwing”, to leave space and thus highlight the central area of the bike.

A Custom with the BMW tradition at its core.
The modifications that led to the R 18 Aurora stem from Garage 221’s experience in the BMW world and indeed all used elements come from other models of BMW Motorrad. The saddle was borrowed in its entirety from a BMW 1200 C of 2005, the Batwing supports were made using the supports for indicators of a BMW R 100 of 1982 and a part of the rear frame of a BMW K 75 of 1991. Even for the color of the body, the code of a 1983 BMW RT 100 was taken as a reference, customizing the graphics in its shades and intensity. The front and rear fender supports, saddle supports, and license plate holder arms are entirely handmade.

The exhaust pipes were made in collaboration with Leo Vince, taking particular care of the sound, to make it even more full-bodied and captivating. Their design has been specifically studied to give a very personal and muscular line to the central part of
the R 18. The R 18 Aurora’s oil cooler grille gives a classy natural touch, inspired by the grille of BMW’s cars from the 1960s. “It was a lot of hard work,” said Pier Francesco, “but the result is truly stunning. The textured paintwork of the cylinder head covers, the injection housings, the central crankcase and our oil cooler grille make everything look homogeneous, creating a unique effect with the cylinder block and the bevel gear.”

Ducati concluded 2021 with a record figure of 59,447 motorcycles delivered to customers all over the world and achieving an increase in sales of + 24% over 2020 (48,042) and + 12% over 2019 (53,183).

Claudio Domenicali, Ducati CEO“2021 was a magical year for Ducati. We delivered over 59,000 motorcycles, a number never achieved before in 95 years of the company’s history. We also won the title of MotoGP Constructors’ World Champion for the second consecutive year, and we started the electric era of our company with the V21L prototype, which foresees the bike that will race in the MotoE championship from 2023. The pandemic, which is still underway, in addition to generating so much suffering, has also made activities more complex, forcing us to conduct a continuous internal reorganization. Supply chains created delivery delays for which I want to apologize to all Ducatisti, thanking them for their patience. Despite all these difficulties, the desire to excel of our employees here in Borgo Panigale and in our subsidiaries around the world helped us to achieve these record results. We are investing in an extremely ambitious growth path that will lead the company to improve even further, by entering new market segments. With the DesertX we will have from this year on an extremely attractive proposal for adventure fans, and other ambitious projects are currently in development. The core values of the brand – Style, Sophistication, Performance and Trust – are more current than ever. Future growth will take place in compliance with these values, offering our enthusiastic customers products that are increasingly representative with a unique mix of beauty, technology and distinctiveness, such as the best of Made in Italy.”

In 2021 Ducati’s growth came in all the main countries, starting with the United States, which regained the place of leading market for Ducati with 9,007 units which corresponds to an increase of 32% on 2020, followed by Italy with 8,707 bikes (+ 23% on 2020) and by Germany with 6,107 units (+ 11% on 2020). The Chinese market also grew with 4,901 motorcycles  (+ 21%), as well as the French one with 4,352 (+ 12%) and the UK one with 2,941 units (+ 30%).

Francesco Milicia, Ducati VP Global Sales and After Sales“With 59,447 motorcycles delivered to customers, Ducati notches up a historic result and once again underlines its solidity, despite the difficulties encountered across all sectors due to the supplies crisis. Sales grew double-digit in all major countries, from the United States to Australia, where the new subsidiary achieved an increase of 50%. These results are also the outcome of extraordinary work aimed at the continuous improvement of the global sales network both in quantitative terms, with 84 new dealerships, and in qualitative terms, focusing on the digitization of processes and omnichannel to guarantee our Ducatisti an “unforgettable” experience, which fully reflects the company’s values. Now we are starting 2022 with an even more complete range, which is already receiving high praise as demonstrated by the best order portfolio ever at the beginning of the year.”

The enormous success obtained during the year is confirmed for the Multistrada V4, which was by far the biggest-selling and most-loved bike for Ducatisti in 2021 with 9,957 motorcycles delivered to customers. The Ducati Scrambler 800 family followed with 9,059 units and the Monster with 8,734 motorcycles sold.

These results were achieved despite the unpredictable situation generated by the supply crisis that has been on-going for some time. It is still a very volatile situation and is destined to continue further.

For 2022, Ducati presented nine new models to the public during the Ducati World Première web series, helping to create an even more complete range ready to satisfy the desires of every type of motorcyclist. Expectations are particularly high for the DesertX , the Ducati bike designed to tackle the most demanding off-roads with 21″ front and 18″ rear wheels, long suspension travel and ample ground clearance. A motorcycle that takes Ducati into a whole new world, a symbol of how the brand can widen its horizons without losing its roots and its sporting identity, as proven by the Panigale V4 which, in its latest evolutionary step, becomes the closest vehicle to a MotoGP bike that a motorcyclist can ride.

Stunning Machines Confirmed For The Classic Dirt Bike Show

The event which gets the off-road season off to a flying start is well-known for the astounding range of motorcycles on display from across the UK, and 2022 will be no different!

Back after a year’s Covid-imposed exile, The Classic Dirt Bike Show sponsored by Hagon Shocks has secured unique machines and restorations for the event held over the weekend of February 12-13.

Peter Hannis, founder of the Crazy Toyz Workshop in Gloucestershire, brings to Telford a quartet of the most unusual bikes you could ever imagine. First up is a 1940s cement mixer-engined special, with its fuel tank on the engine, finished in steam punk style! “It’s a bit slow” said its builder (do you get the pun), whose previous builds have included a Reliant-based road legal speedboat – which gained national press recognition in The Sun newspaper – and an award from Tango for the most eccentric Brit.

Next up is a Bultaco trials bike, powered by a 700cc two-stroke sidecar engine which has still got some minor teething troubles. Ex firefighter Peter’s latest project is a 750cc off road Trike powered by a Katana four-cylinder motor in a modified Bandit frame, with a Yamaha Tri –Z rear axle and off-road wheels. On this, the 2004 British sidecar enduro champion competed in the Malle Mile offroad sprint races, which is held each July in the grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle, Lincolnshire. It was undefeated throughout the day, winning the sprint final.

Finally, have you ever seen a four-cylinder CBR 600cc F3 Dirt bike with an RMZ 450 Suzuki scrambler front end, converted to twinshock spec and using a KTM rear wheel? Well, this MISSILE was put together for the Blue Grass Scramble at Little Comberton Worcestershire, not too far from Peter’s base. While it wasn’t the quickest around the corners, when it came to the straights it left its rivals eating its dust. A race win earlier in the year at the Helter Skelter Hill Climb in deepest Devon was also achieved as the CBR simply flew up one of the steepest hillsides in the country.

If you go to a meeting you can’t miss Peter and his pal Paul Biggs, as instead of wearing the usual motocross gear, they turn out to race in vintage tweed suits! Well, what else would you expect from an eccentric?

Another new stand for Telford, and also arranged by show consultant Alan Wright, is for Royal Enfield. Alan has gathered nine Bullets and Crusaders, including the Bullet put together by the late and much missed Jim Pickering. The Black Country’s John Richardson put together two Enfield Bullets (one is dead original and one highly modified) that he rode regularly and John’s son Andrew and Gloucester’s Steve Allen are bringing them both along.

Johny Brittain, a lifetime Enfield man who died last year, was the winner of countless national trials in the 1950s. His younger brother Pat was also a National trials winner in the 60s and is coming to Telford with his Enfield riding son, Ian, to meet old friends.

If you would be interested in displaying your bike at the show, please complete the form on the Classic Dirt Bike Show website. For further details about the Classic Dirt Bike Show sponsored by Hagon Shocks, and to order your advance tickets, please visit www.classicdirtbikeshow.co.uk

Front Mudguard Extender for BMW F900 XR

A simple add-on that makes a significant difference, Wunderlich’s Xtreme Front Extender for the F900 XR provides double protection for BMW’s popular middleweight adventure sports bike.

The XR’s existing mudguard falls particularly short, leaving both the bike’s engine casing and front brake callipers in the firing line of water, grit, and other road grime thrown up by the wheel.

Made from sturdy thermoplastic and measuring approx 14.9 x 21.6 cm, Wunderlich’s extender adds much needed extra surface area.

The additional length directs potentially damaging detritus away from the F900’s engine; while the specially-shaped flared lip at the bottom edge also helps prevent it being thrown back up at the front callipers – double protection.

Quick and easy to fit, the Xtreme Extender requires no drilling of the XRs original mudguard and comes with all fittings required and full instructions.

It retails at £94 including VAT and is available from the UK’s #1 for BMW motorcycle accessories www.nippynormans.com

Kawasaki celebrates half a century of the Z family

Fifty years after the very first Z model broke cover, Kawasaki has announced no less than four Z50 celebration models.

With the iconic 1972 Super Four model Z1 as great, great grandparent, the four machines cover a wide spectrum underpinning the huge appeal of this popular Kawasaki brand family.

z900

The dynamic Sugomi styling of the Z900 has won many fans since its introduction with an unapologetic aggressive attitude matched to dynamic and responsive riding feedback that only a Z could possess. The 50th anniversary edition of the Supernaked Z900 is clad in the Firecracker Red of the Z1100GP, the dominant air-cooled Z model of the 1980s.  This hue of red – also found on the legendary GPZ900R – was Kawasaki’s signature colour of the time. As another high-class touch, the fork outer tubes are finished in gold and the frame in gloss black. Incorporating TFT colour instrumentation with Smartphone connectivity, the Z900 includes integrated power modes, KTRC traction control and power mode selection (Full/Low) as well as all-LED lighting.

z650

The A2-friendly Z650, with its narrow chassis and responsive parallel twin-cylinder engine is a firm favourite among riders of all experience levels. Equipped with an LED headlight, a TFT display and Smartphone connectivity, the Z650 energizes the senses and inspires every ride. The vivid red paint, was specially blended for these anniversary models, making their aggressive Supernaked Z styling even more striking. The dark blue and silver highlights accentuate the red and like models of the time, the “Z” emblem and Kawasaki logo are finished in gold, further distinguishing these models from their standard counterparts. Add red wheels, with silver pinstripes, special seat leather and a commemorative “Z 50th” logo on the front fender and the package is complete.

z650rs

Expanding the boundaries of the Retro Sport scene further still, Kawasaki returned to the roots of the Z brand, choosing the iconic “Fireball” pattern of the original Z1 for the 50th anniversary editions of the retro sport model Z900RS and Z650RS. A special painting process was developed especially for these models.  The candy colours of the tank and bodywork are applied in layers to bring out a deep, glossy texture that enhances the inherent beauty of these machines. Complementing the rich colouring, the frames of both machines are finished in gloss black and have a special seat leather with a texture distinct from the standard model, as well as different colour stitching. Both machines feature gold-coloured wheels and “Double Overhead Camshaft” emblems reminiscent of the past and proudly show the “Z 50th” logo on the top of the tank. Additionally, the left- and right-side engine covers of the Z900RS feature a “DOHC” emblem.

z900rs

It is rare indeed for a brand family to last a decade let alone five, yet the Kawasaki Z family moves from strength to strength. In 2022 that strength is made real by the presence of the four Z50 models forming part of a celebration bond between Kawasaki and its legion of loyal fans both established and new to the brand.

Z Chronicles
A special book commemorating the 50 years of the Z brand will be provided as a premium gift for customers who purchase 50th Anniversary models, at no additional cost.  The book is not planned to be made available for general purchase.

Available from March, the Z50 celebration colours and prices are as follows:

–              Z900 – FIRECRACKER RED – £9,799

–              Z650 – FIRECRACKER RED – £7,349

–              Z650RS – CANDY DIAMOND BROWN – £8,049

–              Z900RS – CANDY DIAMOND BROWN – £11,449

Keis Sock-it to Cold Feet

New for winter 2021/2022, Keis S302 Heated Socks keep toes toasty warm and can be worn on the bike or off it, the ultimate in winter luxury!

Feet are among the first bits of the body to feel the cold, because blood flow to the extremities is restricted when temperatures drop. Add in the wind chill factor on a moving motorcycle and you’ll need more than a thick pair of wooly socks to remedy the situation.

Made from a thin, lightweight and breathable soft-shell material, Keis Heated Socks are designed to be worn over a pair of normal socks, inside your regular riding footwear.

Each pair features Micro Alloy Element Technology, for instant warmth when it’s needed – relief on even the most miserable winter rides. Current draw is a modest 0.6Amps, which won’t tax the charging system on modern motorcycles.

They can be powered directly from the 12-Volt motorcycle battery, with the power lead supplied. Alternatively Y-leads – also in the box – enable the user to run power from a Keis Heated Jacket or Vest down each leg to the  Heated Socks.

An optional Light Duty Power Controller (not supplied) can be connected to the power lead for the S302 Heated Socks, enabling the user to change the heat setting from high to medium or low, and to switch on and off.

Keis S302 Heated Socks are available in UK shoe sizes 4-10+ (EU 37-44+) and are priced at £85 per pair including vat.

They are fully machine washable for season-long freshness and the heating elements enjoy a Lifetime Warranty, for complete peace of mind.

Honda RC213V-S Breaks Auction World Record

An as-new example of Honda’s RC213V-S has just broken a new world record, becoming the most expensive Japanese motorcycle ever sold at auction.

Hosted by specialist automotive marketplace Collecting Cars, the ‘MotoGP bike for the road’ sold for a remarkable total sales price of £182,500.

The rare superbike has never been ridden and remains in its original flight case, with just one mile on the odometer. Having never left its shipping crate, the bike is totally pristine with absolutely no damage or wear.

Created with a focus on light weight and agility, the RC213V-S is a road-legal MotoGP bike, built around a hand-fabricated aluminium frame with carbon-fibre body panels and titanium fasteners, resulting in a dry weight of just 170kg.

Powered by a 999cc four-stroke V4 engine, this 2016 model also features the full HRC Race Kit, which comprises a recalibrated ECU, a titanium exhaust system, a front ram duct, a race-pattern quickshifter, a data logger and a remote control cable for the front brake lever. These upgrades reduce the bike’s total weight by 10kg and increase power output from 157hp to 215hp.

Also fitted are some of the highest quality components available, including Ohlins TTX front forks, powerful Brembo brakes and forged magnesium Marchesini Racing wheels.

Edward Lovett, founder of Collecting Cars, said:
“Honda’s RC213V-S is a thrilling, exquisitely crafted machine, and this example attracted global attention and extremely competitive bidding on Collecting Cars. We are proud to have achieved yet another world-record sales price – this time for an incredible road-legal MotoGP that will be a jewel in the new owner’s collection.”

To find out more information on this lot, visit Collecting Cars..

Compared to traditional car auctions, Collecting Cars offers significantly better value for sellers and buyers alike. For sellers, the detailed photographic presentation and professional descriptions mean their car is showcased in the best possible way, and is marketed to a huge captive audience of passionate enthusiasts. Furthermore, there is no listing fee, and they receive 100% of the hammer price.

For buyers, the premium on auction lots is levied at just 5% + VAT – substantially lower than traditional auction houses, which typically charge 12% or more – and is capped at £6,000. On hammer prices above £100,000 this means that the buyer’s premium is even less than 6%.

Yamaha Launches Ambassador Led ‘Free Spirits’ Project for the Yamaha XSR125

Yamaha Motor Europe celebrates the versatility and character of the Yamaha XSR125 with the ‘Free Spirits’ concept.

Where traditionally the bikes themselves and the custom builders have been the stars, the ‘Free Spirits’ campaign shifts the focus onto a diverse range of inspirational ambassadors collaborating on the project. The XSR125 of course plays a key role, taking on subtle modifications to blend into the ambassador’s lifestyle, adding true value to everyday activities.

The versatile XSR125
It’s a perfect fit, as the XSR125 has been built to a high standard specification that includes Yamaha’s top-of-the-line engine as well as an agile handling frame. Featuring state-of-the-art technology seamlessly intertwined with timeless heritage style, this lightweight is the youngest member of the Faster Sons family. And like many younger siblings, this bike will make its mark and is ready to impress. Especially on the aesthetic side, its heritage appearance provides an excellent base for modification.

Free Spirited Builts
Driving the project over the winter and into 2022 are several national Yamaha distributors, working closely together with their local ambassadors. The ambassadors themselves lead the design and changes to their XSR125 custom builds, visualising their unique requirements to create a new breed of Yard Built with a real-world practical value to enhance their daily lives.

Participating Yamaha distributors include Italy, France, Germany, Greece, Spain and Portugal, all working with a wide variety of ambassadors that include musicians, wakeboarders, surfers and artists. The concept will see the XSR125 customised primarily using official Yamaha accessories as a showcase to demonstrate the ease with which the XSR can be personalised to the individual, adding value to their life.

Nikolas Plytas – Water Sport Superstar
The first ‘Free Spirits’ XSR125 machine to be unveiled to kick-off the project has been created by Yamaha Motor Greece in collaboration with global water sport superstar Nikolas Plytas. The top 5 Water-ski World Games competitor enjoys a motivated international social media audience with over two million followers on Tik Tok alone keeping up with his adventures on the water.

As an Athens resident who also spends much of his time on the beach, Mediterranean Water-ski champion Nikolas had a clear brief for his custom XSR125. Leading the design and modification process, Nikolas was clear that his XSR125 needed to be agile and quick to cut through the city traffic whilst also being able to carry all the gear he needs to support his life on the water.

Built for the beach
Working with local builders Motodiktio, Yamaha Motor Greece got to work enhancing the XSR125 to meet the vision of Nikolas. To give him confidence on the beach the front fender was lifted higher in a scrambler style, with larger off-road tyres added for grip in the sand. Unique fixings were added to hold both Nikolas’ surfboard and wakeboard as well as a small winch at the rear of the motorcycle. The detachable winch can be anchored to a secure point on the beach, allowing the Greek athlete to be pulled on his wakeboard across the water, giving him the freedom to ride almost anywhere. LED flash indicators have been added front and rear and Genuine Yamaha accessories add a personal feel, including a light protector and license plate holder.

To complete the build, Nikolas found inspiration in the vintage Dakar XT500s, creating a heritage influenced XSR125 sticker on the tank in the original XT500 style. Finally, Nikolas chose an iconic 80’s Yamaha blue in true Faster Sons style to paint the tank and set the tone for his ‘Free Spirits’ Yard Built XSR125.

Nikolas is now ready to tackle his home city of Athens and his beloved beaches on his unique XSR125 ‘Free Spirit’ custom, showcasing its flexibility to support an active lifestyle!

Stay tuned for more ambassador influenced XSR125 ‘Free Spirits’ builds coming over the next months. Can’t wait to make your XSR125 truly your own? Try the online configurator to build your dream bike.

Ducati MotoE bike takes to the track for the first time on the Misano circuit

The Ducati MotoE bike took to the track for the first time at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, right where the agreement with Dorna Sports was announced in October.

In fact, starting from the 2023 season, the Borgo Panigale motorcycle manufacturer will be the sole supplier of motorcycles for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup, the electric class of the MotoGP™ World Championship.

The electric motorcycle prototype, code-named “V21L”, is the result of the joint work of the Ducati Corse team and the Ducati R&D engineers, led by Roberto Canè, Ducati eMobility Director, and was taken out on track by Michele Pirro, professional rider and Ducati test rider since 2013, who evaluated the technical characteristics and potential of Ducati’s first electric motorcycle.

Roberto Canè, Ducati eMobility Director:  “We are experiencing a truly extraordinary moment. I find it hard to believe it is reality and still not a dream! The first electric Ducati on the track is exceptional not only for its uniqueness but also for the type of undertaking: challenging both for its performance objectives and for its extremely short timescales. Precisely for this reason, the work of the whole team dedicated to the project has been incredible and today’s result repays us for the efforts made in recent months. We are certainly not finished yet; indeed, we know that the road ahead is still very long, but in the meantime, we have laid a first important ‘brick’.”

Michele Pirro, Ducati test rider:  “Testing the MotoE prototype on the circuit was a great thrill, because it marks the beginning of an important chapter in Ducati history. The bike is light and already has a good balance. Furthermore, the throttle connection in the first opening phase and the ergonomics are very similar to those of a MotoGP bike. If it weren’t for the silence and for the fact that in this test, we decided to limit the power output to just 70% of performance, I could easily have imagined that I was riding my bike.”

The most important challenges in the development of an electric racing motorcycle remain related to the size, weight and range of the batteries. Ducati’s goal is to make electric motorcycles that are high-performance and characterized by their lightness available to all FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup participants. The focus of the project are, in addition to better performance, the containment of weight and the consistency of power delivery during the race, obtained thanks to the attention in the development of a cooling system suitable for the objective.

Ducati’s experience in the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup will be a fundamental support for product R&D. The goal is to create, as soon as the technology allows it, a Ducati electric vehicle for road use that is sporty, light, exciting and able to satisfy all enthusiasts.

Tourance Next 2 And Karoo 4 Complete Metzeler On/off Tyre Range

Available from January 2022, METZELER TOURANCE NEXT 2 enhances the know-how of the two-wheel focused brand to reach a new level of performance in the adventure segment.

The new KAROO 4, is a tyre designed to equip adventure and maxi enduro motorcycles, thanks to a mix of cutting-edge technologies and processes, taking riders to the boundaries of adventouring

New sizes dedicated to adventure bikes enlarge the range of supersports tyres SPORTEC M9 RR and sport touring tyres ROADTEC 01 SE

The two-wheel focused brand strengthens the METZELER range dedicated to the on/off segment with the introduction of brand new products, to offer adventure enthusiasts a bespoke tyre for any need. The new TOURANCE Next 2, fourth generation of the TOURANCE family, and KAROO 4 tyres represent the main news by METZELER for the on/off segment, both specifically developed for the latest generation of adventure and maxi enduro bikes.

Who is TOURANCE Next 2 designed for?
TOURANCE Next 2 guarantees a new level of performance in the adventure segment and it was developed for riders riding their motorcycles both for long journeys and out-of-town excursions, alone or with a passenger, who are looking for top performance combined with riding comfort and durability.

Features and benefits of TOURANCE Next 2
The main benefits of TOURANCE Next 2 are:

  • Accurate control at any lean angle, leading to an agile and neutral behaviour of the motorcycle thanks to the radial structure with zero degrees steel belt and INTERACT technology;
  • Top response in wet and braking conditions. The innovative formulation of the compounds with liquid polymers and their arrangement, which uses METZELER HYPERBASE technology, make TOURANCE Next 2 the new reference tyre in terms of braking and wet performance, guaranteeing  braking distances 1.5m shorter than its predecessor TOURANCE Next[1];
  • Immediate and lasting performance. The evolution of the legendary TOURANCE Next has been enhanced by new compounds and the METZELER DYMATEC technology applied to the tread pattern. This involves a particular design methodology to preserve the functional geometries of the grooves and consequently the tyre performance over time;
  • Comfort and safety even when fully loaded. The combination of tread pattern, structures and adaptive compounds make the motorcycle extremely comfortable and manageable, regardless of the presence of a passenger or luggage.

THE TYRE IN DETAIL

Tread pattern

TOURANCE Next 2 features tread pattern  traits of the pi – πwhich in addition to being distinctive of the  METZELER brand, also has a specific functional reason.

The longitudinal grooves in the central part of the tread, which make up the upper part of the pi, are interrupted by other grooves in order to ensure greater stability of the compound and consequently a uniform wear. Likewise, these grooves improve lateral thrust for high-end off-road performance.

The patented DYMATEC technology has been applied to the tread pattern, which involves a design methodology specifically designed to preserve the functional geometries of the compound blocks and consequently tyre performance over time. Thanks to DYMATEC, Dynamic Mould Angle Technology, the position of the groove along the tread width, and consequently the different lean angle in which it is involved, determines the specific angle of its the walls, in order to better manage the dynamic stresses typical of on/off riding and ensure maximum wear uniformity.

Another important feature of the front tyre is the irregular repetition of the tread pattern (Multi-Pitch Knob Layout), a technology that places blocks of compound of different sizes in contact with the asphalt, to ensure smooth rolling and a high acoustic comfort level.

Tread Compound

On the front, METZELER introduces an innovative high-silica compound (85%) containing functionalized polymers (SBR) which enhance its wet grip characteristics and stability, allowing a reduction of the braking distance by more than 10%[2] and full stability under different load conditions.

As for the TOURANCE Next 2 rear sizes, the central strip replicates the same compound as the front, while the shoulder areas are full-silica and formulated for wet performance and grip while leaning. Some sizes feature the arrangement of the tread compounds according to the Cap&Base scheme, while others use the patented Hyperbase formula.

According to the Cap&Base scheme, the shoulder areas in soft compound, which ensure grip when cornering, are layered on a harder compound base that ensures consistency in performance and thermal balance.

With the Hyperbase scheme, both shoulder areas and the central compound strip are supported by a base formulated with a specific full-carbon-black compound, oriented towards dynamic and thermal stability.

TOURANCE Next 2 range

The new TOURANCE Next 2 will progressively be available in the following sizes starting from January 2022:

Successor of the award-winning KAROO 3, KAROO 4 represents the latest generation of the METZELER product family designed for on/off use, a tyre intended for the equipment of adventure and maxi enduro motorcycles that allows motorcyclists to go beyond the boundaries of adventouring.

Main features
KAROO 4 features a revolutionary patented tread pattern, which raises the tyre’s all-round performance levels on both asphalt and on different types of off-road surfaces. As for the road sector, the engineers of the blue elephant brand have worked to improve in particular the overall handling and the behaviour in the wet, developing a tread pattern that allows you to safely face certain lean angles even on wet asphalt. In the off-road field, KAROO 4 increases the off-road performance level, especially on soft surfaces, such as sand, mud and clay.
