Tim Peake Explores Adventure Motorcycling

British astronaut Major Tim Peake CMG reveals his passion for motorcycling during an exhilarating day at the Triumph Adventure Experience in Wales.

In a short film, launched today, Tim shares how his love for exhilaration and adventure has seen him explore new horizons in the army, as a helicopter test pilot and on the International Space Station, and how he now finds both in his passion for motorcycling.

Former British and World Enduro, British Rally & Cross Country Champion Matt Reed, who is now the Operations Manager at the Triumph Adventure Experience, joined Tim on his off-road journey.  Tim and Matt both rode the award-winning Tiger 900 Rally Pro over dirt tracks and gravel trails.

Matt explained: “Tim is a natural off-road and handles the bike with confidence and energy. It has been great to see him learn new skills and take on new challenge on this terrain.”

Tim Peake is an ambassador for STEM Education, The Prince’s Trust and the Scout Association. He is a best-selling author, with proceeds from his books donated to The Prince’s Trust.

“For me, motorcycling is all about the journey, not the destination. I love the freedom and exhilaration that off-road biking gives you and, when the going gets tough, it teaches you to have the confidence to face new challenges.” Tim Peake

Tim is currently on a 47 venue Theatre Tour called My Journey to Space, all tour details can be found here: https://www.fane.co.uk/timpeake.

Tim’s first children’s novel, SWARM RISING is now available from all good bookshops and Amazon.

THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS
The result of one of the most ambitious projects in Triumph’s history, the all-new Tiger 1200 line-up represents a transformation in weight, performance and capability, all focused on delivering every advantage a rider is looking for in their adventure motorcycle.

Building on the previous generation’s strengths, including its practical shaft drive set-up and its great long-distance comfort, plus the triple engine platform which suits touring so well, the new Tiger line-up introduces a new generation of T-plane triple engine, lightweight chassis and advanced technology – all focused on delivering the most agile and capable large capacity adventure
motorcycle you can buy.

GT Pro

ALL-NEW TIGER 1200 FAMILY
With all-new names to reflect the new capability, each Tiger 1200 model is now more tailored and focused to suit the adventures that different riders want.

The new road-focused GT and higher spec GT Pro come with cast wheels, 19” on the front and 18” on the rear, plus all-new Showa semi-active suspension, tuned to deliver the ultimate road-focused adventure ride.

With the new Rally Pro, this brings for the first time a dedicated 21” front and 18” rear tubeless wire-spoked wheel set-up, plus the new Showa semi-active suspension with even longer travel, tuned to deliver the ultimate in all-terrain riding, off-road and on.

Completing the new 5 bike line-up, for the first time Triumph introduces two new 30 litre tank Tigers, with the new Rally Explorer and the GT Explorer – the only cast wheel, 30 litre tank, adventure bike in the class. Both featuring the new Triumph Blind Spot Radar system, these bikes are built to travel the world in comfort and style, with the highest level of specification and capability ever.

Rally Explorer

ALL-NEW T-PLANE TRIPLE ENGINE
Designed to deliver all the advantages that have made the Triumph Tiger 900 so successful in the middleweight category, the new the T-plane triple crank brings the best of both worlds, with the low down tractability of a twin at the bottom end, making it great off road, combined with the performance benefits of a triple at the top end, which makes the Tiger even better on the road where riders spend most of their time.  Technically, the T-plane crank gives the new Tiger 1200 engine firing pulses at 180, 270 and 270 degrees, resulting in one short gap and two long gaps between the firing, delivering improved character and tractability at low rpm.

The new 1160cc engine brings a major step up in performance with 150PS peak power at 9,000rpm, 9PS up on the previous generation, making it the most powerful shaft drive motorcycle in the class. The torque is also significantly higher than the previous generation, with 130Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm, 8Nm up on the previous engine.

In addition to the step-up in power and torque, the new engine, tune and T-plane triple crank also bring improved acceleration and a much more responsive and exciting character, where the uneven firing interval gives excellent feel and tractability at the bottom end, combined with the really strong triple power and torque delivery all the way through the rev range. Completing the transformation, every Tiger features the new lightweight low-maintenance shaft drive, a key practical advantage valued by adventure touring riders.

Compared to the previous generation engine, absolutely everything is new, including new bore and stroke, crank, cylinder head, gearbox and clutch, and a completely new shaft drive and bevel box. Overall, every single component has been designed to be significantly lighter and more compact, which has allowed the new engine to have a much tighter overall package, transforming the riding dynamics.

Add to that the new minimal lightweight silencer, and the result is a significantly enhanced soundtrack, with a new distinctive triple tone and bark.

Rally Pro

THE NEW BENCHMARK FOR HANDLING
The Tiger 1200 has been designed to set the new benchmark for road and off-road adventure handling, courtesy of a major reduction in weight, an all-new lightweight chassis, a class-leading specification of equipment and all-new rider ergonomics.

Following an extensive mass optimisation programme across the whole bike, encompassing every component, the new generation is now more than 25kg lighter than the previous Tiger, and up to 17kg lighter than the closest shaft drive competition, based on a comparable specification of motorcycle.

Pro Family

For this new generation, each Tiger 1200 family now comes equipped with dedicated wheel dimensions, tailored to suit the adventures that different riders want. On the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer, there is a 21”/18” tubeless spoked set-up for incredible all-road ability, and on the GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer there is 19”/18” cast aluminium arrangement for more dynamic road riding ability. Ensuring outstanding grip and stability, Metzeler Tourance™ tyres are fitted to all of the GT models, while the Rally models feature Metzeler Karoo Street™ tyres for true all-terrain riding. For advanced off-road riding, the Michelin Anakee Wild is the handbook approved option.

Class-leading Brembo Stylema® brakes are fitted to all Tiger 1200 models for powerful and progressive performance. These have been selected to meet the demands of long distance road riding and the advanced off-road adventure capability of the Rally models.

The incredible stopping power provided by the Brembo calipers is managed by the advanced Optimised Cornering ABS system fitted to all of the new models, which is supported by a sophisticated IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), which continuously measures the motorcycle’s movement (pitch rate, yaw rate, roll rate, vertical acceleration, lateral acceleration, longitudinal acceleration) to calculate the lean angle of the bike and deliver the optimum level of ABS intervention. Magura HC-1 levers, adjustable for reach, deliver a progressive feel and further enhance rider comfort and control.

Making a significant contribution to the transformation in weight and handling capability, the Tiger’s new frame, which is 5.4kg lighter than the previous design, features a bolt-on aluminium rear sub-frame and bolt-on pillion hangers, enhancements developed from customer feedback.

GT Explorer

Additional weight savings comes from the new aluminium fuel tank and all-new tri-link swingarm, which is 1.5kg lighter and stronger than the previous single-sided set-up, and incorporates a smaller and lighter shaft drive and bevel box.

Bringing the rider enhanced confidence at low speeds and during non-riding manoeuvres, as well as enhanced comfort and control, all of the new 1200s come with new seat and tank ergonomics, where the seat has been slimmed down at the front, where it meets the tank. To further enable each rider to find their comfort zone, all models feature a built-in easily adjustable two-position seat mechanism which enables the rider to change the seat height by 20mm to their preferred set-up.

For the GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer there are two seat height settings – 850mm and 870mm, while for the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer these are 875mm and 895mm. Through the accessory-fit low seat option, customers will also be able to lower the seat position by an additional 20mm.

A further enhancement to comfort is provided by the new easily adjustable screen, with a simple one-handed adjustment mechanism, plus new aero screen diffusers that deflect the wind off both the rider and pillion.

The handlebar position has been optimised to suit each model in the Tiger 1200 range, contributing to the bike’s improved agility and ensuring great rider comfort. These are 20mm wider than the previous generation for improved off-road control. On the GT Explorer and Rally Explorer, the handlebars are 16mm higher than the other models in the line-up to deliver an even more commanding position. The foot peg positions have also been refined to deliver the optimum rider comfort and control for each model.

All models within the Tiger 1200 line-up have an extensive level of protection for a more secure and comfortable ride: handguards are standard for all models, aluminium skid-guard is fitted as standard on the GT Pro and GT Explorer, while an aluminium sump guard is a standard fit for the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer. Additional protection is provided on the GT Explorer and both Rally variants by the engine protection bars, while the Rally Explorer also comes with fuel tank protection bars. These items can all be added as accessories to the models where they are not standard fit.

GT Pro

COMPREHENSIVE TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE
The new generation sets a new standard for Tiger technology, with the introduction of a host of advanced features designed to enhance the ride and deliver a step up in safety, comfort and control.

The GT Explorer and Rally Explorer exclusively feature the all-new Triumph Blind Spot Radar system, developed in partnership with Continental, which delivers two key safety features. Blind Spot Assist uses a rear facing radar to let the rider know when another vehicle is in their blind spot, and Lane Change Assist, which gives a more prominent warning if the rider indicates to change lane and there is a vehicle approaching.

Optimised Cornering Traction Control comes as standard on all of the new line-up, which is supported by the bike’s advanced IMU to deliver the optimum traction control response for the riding conditions.

All of the key information the rider needs is presented through the new class-leading 7” TFT instruments with an optically bonded display, which features a new graphics package. The My Triumph Connectivity System is also fitted as standard on all models, enabling phone calls, turn-by-turn navigation and GoPro control.

Depending on the model, there are up to 6 riding modes available, which adjust throttle response, ABS, traction control and suspension settings for maximum rider control in all riding conditions. The Off-Road Pro riding mode, exclusive to the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer models, is Triumph’s most extreme off-road set-up for advanced off-road adventure, with ABS and traction control turned off, and an off-road throttle map. Rain mode has been tailored to deliver the most intervention and is limited to 100PS for enhanced safety and control when conditions are compromised.

Great visibility in any riding condition is ensured by the new full LED headlight with a distinctive new signature Daytime Running Light (DRL). Additional visibility and illumination whilst cornering is provided by the lean-sensitive new Adaptive Cornering Lights, which come as standard on all models except the Tiger 1200 GT.

Triumph Shift Assist comes as a standard fit feature on all models, except the Tiger 1200 GT where it is available as an accessory upgrade. Triumph Shift Assist enables easy up and down gear-shifting without needing to action the clutch. Hill Hold is standard on all models except the Tiger 1200 GT. Hill Hold prevents the bike from rolling backwards when setting off on a steep incline, applying the rear brake until sensing the rider is starting to move off.

For enhanced long distance riding comfort in every weather condition, all models except the Tiger 1200 GT come with heated grips as standard, plus the GT Explorer and Rally Explorer also come with heated rider and pillion seats, and also a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System to ensure the highest possible level of rider safety. For all other models, heated seats and TPMS can be added as an accessory option.

Completing the new Tiger’s comprehensive technology package, all of the new models come with a host of additional features designed to enhance the ride, including intuitive and easily accessible switch cubes with unique-in-segment 5-way joystick control, plus illuminated switches and under seat storage with USB charger. Adjustable electronic cruise control and a centre stand also come as standard on all models except the Tiger GT.

DISTINCTIVE NEW TIGER STYLE
Following a brief for styling that was just as ambitious as the handling and performance updates, the new Tiger 1200 line-up delivers a distinctive new look with a more upright, commanding stance enhanced by the new redesigned minimal bodywork, clean contemporary lines and a visually lighter front end.

Each model family has been designed with a more focused look, with the GT family delivering even more road biased style, whilst the Rally family brings even more off-road attitude and stance, courtesy of the new 21’’ front wheel set-up.

The new generation also features a much slimmer waist and more compact design with narrower stand over, which not only makes it easier to get your feet on the floor, but also makes it easier to move around on while riding.

Historic Discovery of 1901 Prototype Triumph

Following the recent announcement of their plans to celebrate next year’s 120th anniversary of the most iconic British motorcycle brand and the production of the millionth Hinckley Triumph produced, Triumph announce the landmark discovery of the very first Triumph prototype ever built.

The 1901 Prototype
An amazing historic find, discovered and restored by leading vintage Triumph collector Dick Shepherd, the 1901 Prototype rewrites the history books, adding a whole new chapter prior to Triumph’s official sales starting in 1902. Long rumoured to exist and referenced within advertising and reviews that appeared in 1901, this first Triumph prototype was developed from a standard Triumph bicycle, with an engine provided by Belgian manufacturer Minerva, in order to generate interest and gauge the public’s demand for a Triumph motorcycle.

Dick Shepherd said “Having been approached by a friend of a collector, who had sadly recently passed away, to evaluate an old Triumph I was incredibly excited to discover that the bike they had featured unique details that were not present on the first production Triumphs. Along with the bike, the collector had also received a letter from Triumph, dated in 1937, that outlined the bike’s unique origins and provided key details.”

“With an engine number that is consistent with references in Minerva’s engine records of a 1901 first Triumph engagement the historic significance of this motorcycle became incredibly clear.”

“As a lifelong passionate fan of the history and achievements of this incredible British brand, to have discovered this amazing survivor and restored it to the glorious condition it would have been in when it first went on display in 1901, has given me an immense amount of satisfaction.”

First unveiled at the UK’s Motorcycle Live show the 1901 prototype will feature in dedicated event at Triumph’s Factory Visitor Experience on the 22nd January, where the machine will be ridden in public for the very first time in over 100 years.

This incredible, historic motorcycle will then be on display, alongside the millionth Hinckley Triumph, in a new, specially created 120-year anniversary display, hosted within Triumph’s Factory Visitor Experience.

The Triumph Factory Visitor Experience is free to visit and is located at Triumph’s HQ in Hinckley, England and is open daily Wednesday through Sunday, from 10am – 4.30pm.

One Millionth Hinckley Triumph Kicks Of Brand’s 120-Year Anniversary Plans

Hand in hand with the announcement of plans to celebrate next year’s 120th anniversary of the most iconic British motorcycle brand in the world, Triumph unveils the landmark millionth Hinckley Triumph produced.

The Millionth Triumph of The Modern Era
Triumph has reached a historic milestone in its modern era with the reveal of the millionth motorcycle built since the brand’s return in 1990.  Unveiled at Triumph’s Global Headquarters in Hinckley by Nick Bloor, CEO, in front of the UK team, the millionth Triumph is a one-off custom painted model of Triumph’s incredibly successful Tiger 900 Rally Pro.

Launched in 2019 the Tiger 900 Rally Pro provides a perfect demonstration of Triumph’s world leading design, engineering and production capability, courtesy of its class defining character, capability, quality and attention to detail – attributes shared by all of Triumph’s modern line-up

With its sophisticated custom Silver paint scheme and one millionth graphics this very special milestone motorcycle will be displayed on Triumph’s stand at this year’s Motorcycle Live show at the NEC and then on show in Triumph’s Factory Visitor Experience* in a new, specially created 120-year anniversary display.

‘’Everyone at Triumph is incredibly proud to have played a part in achieving such a momentous moment in the modern history of this iconic brand. Over the 31 years since we re-launched Triumph with a new line of British designed motorcycles in Cologne in 1990, we have shared so many great moments with our fans across the world. From returning to the TT champions arena, to entering the MotoGP paddock with our Moto2 Engine partnership to supporting the biggest global riding event and its great cause for health and wellbeing with the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, to mention only a few.  Triumph’s success has always stemmed from the passion and commitment we share with our riders.’’

‘’Whilst the last year has been challenging for all of us, this passion and commitment has driven Triumph to even greater heights, including the successful entry into new categories with the Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660.”

“Over the last three decades Triumph has maintained sustained and significant investment in our people, our partners and our in-house design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities, in order to grow the reach and reputation of this iconic British brand. This investment in home grown talent, both in the UK and around the world, matched by the passion we share with our riders for delivering the complete and perfect motorcycle, has seen the brand go from strength to strength, achieving the most successful year in the brand’s entire 120-year history.’’

‘’Furthermore, we are committed to taking the brand to even greater heights, and with the forthcoming launch of our brand new Tiger 1200, new competition MX and Enduro motorcycles, plus our strategic partnership with Bajaj to create smaller capacity bikes, I am delighted to say that the future for Triumph and its fans across the world will be just as exciting and rich as the last 30 years has been,’’ Nick Bloor Triumph CEO.

Celebrating 120 Years of the Most Successful British Motorcycle Brand
Encompassing millions of passionate fans who share the same obsession for motorcycling Triumph announce their plans to celebrate in 2022 the landmark 120-year anniversary of this iconic British motorcycle brand.

The very first production Triumph motorcycle went on sale to the public in April 1902, starting one of the world’s richest and most exciting brand stories; a story that has gone on to encompass countless legendary motorcycles, and playing a significant role in shaping the motorcycle world we enjoy today.

Triumph’s modern era began in 1990 with a completely original range of motorcycles designed and built in a brand new, state-of-the-art factory at Hinckley.

In the three decades since, Triumph has built and sold more motorcycles than at any previous time in its history through an international network of more than 700 dealers in 57 countries.

And despite recent challenges, the passion for Triumph shared around the world by owners, riders, fans and dealers has made the last 12 months the most successful ever, with more than 75,000 bikes registered globally and a turnover of £650 million.

Triumph represents the very pinnacle of Great British design and engineering, with a line-up of world-beating bikes spanning multiple genres from adventure to roadsters to modern classics, each delivering Triumph’s renowned reputation for class-leading handling, finish and detailing and original, authentic design.

Today Triumph operates across five manufacturing facilities, all managed and led by the global headquarters in Hinckley, Leicestershire, where every Triumph is conceived, prototyped and tested in Triumph’s centre of design excellence by our in-house team.  The most recent addition to Hinckley’s impressive infrastructure is an all-new UK assembly plant, built to enhance Triumph’s global manufacturing flexibility and complement the existing multi-million-pound paint shop and rapid prototyping facilities.

A truly global operation Triumph has 13 sales and marketing offices around the world, manufacturing and production facilities located in Thailand, where the company has its own casting, injection-moulding, machining and assembly facilities, and plants in India and Brazil, which assemble bikes destined for local markets.

Triumph’s Factory Visitor Experience* at Hinckley, opened in 2018, invites visitors to get a taste of Triumph’s manufacturing expertise as well as showcasing the most important collection of motorcycles from the iconic British firm’s past and present.

From January 2022 Triumph will invite fans from all over the world to join the factory in celebrating the pure spirit of motorcycling, in a series of stories, meet-ups and special events throughout the year.  Keep an eye out for more details to come in the new year.

*The Triumph Factory Visitor Experience is free to visit and is located at Triumph’s HQ in Hinckley, England and is open daily Wednesday through Sunday, from 10am – 4.30pm.

Triumph Bonneville Bobber Review

Can you fall in love with an inanimate object? some say you can. As soon as I set eyes on the Triumph Bonneville Bobber it was love at first sight, it even came in my favourite cherry red.

Few two-wheelers have the honor of being as cool & iconic as the Bonneville Bobber. The Bonneville has enjoyed a sacred reputation amongst the enthusiasts; however, the latest upgrades have made it considerably more attractive. It exudes a retro cruiser charm whilst fulfilling all the modern-day standards including but not limited to the emissions standards. As with any other Triumph two-wheeler, the Bonneville Bobber also boasts an impeccable built quality that is visible from afar. The all-new 1200cc British icon infuses a breath of fresh air into a motorbike industry that is fast running out of classic-era machines, leaving the enthusiasts with little choices to quench their thirst.

As an avid fan of retro-inspired motorbikes, I was eager to try the latest iteration of the Bonneville Bobber. The previous version has still got quite a respectable space in my heart for the authenticity and the riding pleasure it provides, however, it lacks some of the modern amenities which many of the riders have now got accustomed to. The 2021 version retains the instantly recognizable charisma of the Bobber lineup all the while featuring subtle changes that are quite apparent but they, in no way, diminish the charm a Bonneville Bobber is known for. The front & rear fenders are still absent and the ignition switch, to this date, is mounted beneath the fuel tank of the bike. All this means that only the crucial creature comforts have been included in the new version. In fact, the minimalist DNA of the Bobber lineup still continues here with the rider seat being the sole seat available and a bulging engine & exhaust pipes that are purposefully exposed to execute a typical cruiser personality.

Despite the minimalist theme going all around the bike, the Bobber still has a wet weight of nearly 250kg which is not light by any stretch of the imagination. Nonetheless, the riding dynamics have been designed as such to maximize the riding pleasure and ease of riding around town. The planted riding experience is also helped in part by the purpose-built chubby front & rear wheels that are accompanied by the Showa folks and spoke rims. The spoke rims look phenomenal especially in contrast with the color schematics of the Bonneville Black which I had the pleasure of riding for a brief moment. The ergonomics have been well organized since the neutral riding stance and easy-to-reach & adjustable controls make the motorbike a sheer pleasure to drive. The seat only looks a bit uncomfortable from a distance, but its aluminum construction leaves plenty of room for padding. Behind the seat is a nicely hidden mono-shock that works like a charm on paved & slightly uneven surfaces.

As mentioned earlier, a host of modern amenities have been integrated that are complemented by LED lights all around the bike. The amenities themselves include cruise control, traction control, ride-by-wire throttle, dual-channel ABS, though, the front calipers are Brembo and the rear one is Nisin. Nevertheless, the whole brake package is potent enough to provide plenty of stopping power even on damp surfaces. The 1200cc powerplant is a twin-parallel setup that churns out 77 hp and approximately 106Nm of peak torque. Since the peak torque is available at a lower RPM band, therefore, the Bonneville Bobber is quite capable for city rides and short commutes. Conversely, long rides can feel a bit underwhelming since the 250 kg weight in conjunction with high wind resistance really makes the bike struggle to move ahead. Other than that, the riding experience, as a whole, is quite comfortable and enjoyable.

A major part of extensive improvements for the new Bobber includes a bigger fuel tank, improved fuel economy figures & better compliance to modern emission standards. The fuel tank has been enlarged to accommodate 12L of fuel which is a 25% improvement over its predecessor. This, combined with a claimed fuel average of 61mpg (4.6L/100km) makes the new model cover more miles without having you make a stopover at a nearby fuel station. Though, the improvements in the emissions department may not be to everyone’s liking. The Bobber may now be compliant with Euro-5 emissions standards, but its exhaust note isn’t as deep and loud as the previous version. Nevertheless, it is a commendable feat by Triumph since the air-fuel mixture is still fed by a carburetor.

To sum it all up, Triumph has done an excellent job with the all-new Bonneville Bobber. It retains all the essential hallmarks of its predecessor and also the top-notch built quality that is synonymous with all the offerings by Triumph. The price may seem a bit steep to some, but you will only realize its true worth when you take a personal look and test drive.

This bike to an old sport bike lover like myself is gorgeous through spending a fair bit of time on Triumphs recently my taste is changing from speed to a more comfortable ride. Ii I had the money I would be the first in the queue to purchase one.

The original Thruxton played a major part in the birth of motorcycle motorsport, as far back as the late 1950’s when the racing Bonneville first took victory at the legendary Thruxton 500 race series, from which it took its name, courtesy of British racing legend, Mike Hailwood. And from then onwards, the Thruxton was a dominating force – race winner and record breaker – with years of success spanning the 1960s.

By 1969, the Thruxton had won the Isle of Man TT, with Malcolm Uphill cracking the 100mph production lap for the very first time. And on the road, thanks to its twin-powered performance, it had also become the bike of choice, inspiring a generation of teenage racers – a now-iconic subculture centred around British café racer motorcycles and Rock n’ Roll music – the “Ton Up Boys”.

Driven by the common goal of doing “the ton” – riding 100mph – the café racers of the day would modify their motorcycles to maximise speed and handling by stripping them down to the bare minimum.

And now, honouring that passion, racing heritage and iconic style, the new Thruxton RS Ton Up Edition celebrates the legendary period in Britain’s motorcycling scene with a unique new classically-inspired scheme, available for one year only.

Unique Ton Up Edition paint scheme and premium custom detailing
Perfectly accentuating the Thruxton’s iconic café racer DNA and timeless silhouette, the new Ton Up Edition design scheme incorporates a stunning and unique Aegean Blue fuel tank with Jet Black knee pad graphics, edged with hand-painted silver coach lining. This is paired with a Fusion White seat cowl and front mudguard, both of which feature unique new Carnival Red “100” graphics. The seat cowl also features additional hand-painted coach lining in black.

The side panels, featuring the new Thruxton RS Ton Up logo, are painted in Jet Black, as are the headlight bowl and rear mudguard. Other premium custom-inspired details include Matt Aluminium Silver fork protectors and blacked-out wheels, engine covers and RSU springs.

The Ton Up Edition also features all the hallmarks of the distinctive Thruxton RS, including unique Monza-style fuel filler cap, twin brushed stainless steel upswept silencers, single bullet seat and black bar-end mirrors.

Riders can also enhance their Thruxton RS Ton Up Edition with the accessory cockpit fairing that now comes in a matching Aegean Blue.

High performance Thruxton RS engine
The Thruxton RS Ton Up Edition is powered by the responsive and characterful Bonneville 1200cc twin engine, delivering 105 PS peak power at 7,500 rpm and 112 Nm peak torque at a low 4,250 rpm. Fully Euro 5 compliant, the Thruxton RS engine is optimised for high-performance, low emissions and enhanced fuel efficiency.

The sporty twin reverse cone megaphone silencers deliver the Thruxton’s hair-raising, rich and deep sound, that absolutely lives up to its legendary name.

High-specification equipment for dynamic and engaging handling
The Thruxton RS Ton Up Edition features a light and agile chassis, with a sporty riding position and a high specification to match. This includes its race-bred fully adjustable Showa 43mm upside down pig piston forks and fully adjustable Öhlins twin rear shocks with piggyback reservoir, offering a great riding feel, comfort and exceptional handling.

High-specification brakes ensure the Thruxton RS delivers outstanding stopping power, with twin 310mm Brembo floating front brake discs with Brembo M50 radial monobloc calipers, and a Nissin two-piston floating caliper on the rear.

Metzler Racetec RR tyres are fitted as standard, offering enhanced grip for sporty road riding as well as track day fun.

The combination of thrilling 1200cc engine, with high-specification dynamic chassis and premium standard equipment, alongside the focused and sporty riding ergonomics with low 810mm seat height, make the Thruxton RS an agile and engaged ride.

Ride-enhancing technology fitted as standard
The Thruxton RS Ton Up Edition is equipped with ABS and switchable traction control as standard, as well as three riding modes – Road, Rain and Sport. These adjust throttle map and traction control settings to better suit the riding conditions or rider preference. This is enabled via the ride-by-wire technology, which delivers enhanced throttle response and better control.

Additional ride-enhancing technology includes the torque-assist clutch, reducing rider fatigue, as well as the immobiliser and under-seat USB charging socket.

For a better visibility on the road, the bike is equipped with an LED DRL incorporated into the headlight (market specific).

80+ custom accessories
Like all Triumph Modern Classics, the Thruxton RS has been designed with customisation at its heart, featuring a range of over 80 genuine Triumph accessories available. This includes the new Aegean Blue cockpit fairing, along with clip-on handlebars, heated grips and luggage, to name just a few.

All genuine Triumph accessories are designed alongside the bike itself, and are tested to the same quality and durability standards. That’s why all accessories come with the same two-year unlimited mileage warranty as the bike itself.

Triumph Bonneville T120 Review

Last month I tested the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS and now for a slight change of pace I am looking at my first modern classic – the Triumph Bonneville T120.

Despite the constant bombardment of flashy supersport & naked motorbikes in the market, classic motorbikes are still loved by enthusiasts around the world. Unfortunately, there are a handful of new classic two-wheelers being sold by the manufacturers these days, so the choices are quite limited. Nevertheless, you can always get your hands on the classic British icon, the Triumph Bonneville T120. The Bonneville has a 60-year long legacy that has been refined & modernized over time to make it appealing for the masses. The 2021 model carries various upgrades & versions that are sure to entice classic moto lovers.

To get an in-depth look at the revamped Bonneville, I decided to get a first-hand look at it and feel how is it different. In all fairness, giving a makeover to a classic icon is a no mean feat and it requires careful calibrations on all facets so that the original character is preserved. Thankfully, Triumph has hit the nail right on the head as the latest iteration of the Bonneville T120 feels contemporary yet vintage enough to satisfy its core customer base. Everything from the round indicators & headlamp to the classic peashooter silencer makes the new T120 as identical to its first generation as it can ever get.

Now that the visual aspects have been covered, it is high time that I should shed some light on the deeper character traits of the Bonneville T120. The overall finishing is impeccable, just as we have come to expect from the entire lineup of Triumph motorbikes. The bulging parallel-twin engine and a rather chunky gearbox perfectly complement the classic appeal of the original Bonneville that had always remained a favorite amongst enthusiasts.

While the new Bonneville does not pack as much old-school technology under its belt as its older versions, it certainly has enough to offer to any retro fan out there. The 1200cc parallel-twin engine with its 79 hp and 105 Nm of torque may sound a bit underwhelming, but you have to experience the bike for yourself to discover its true nature. The 10.0:1 compression ratio also doesn’t lend a helping hand to the power output figures but keep in mind that all the torque is readily available in the lower band which is just great for the purpose the motorbike is made for. The engine obviously isn’t fed by a carburetor instead it utilizes a multipoint EFI system that helps in maximizing the efficiency and reducing the emissions level. Thanks to the use of various measures to curb carbon emissions, the new Bonneville T120 is Euro-5 compliant and despite that, the performance has remained untethered.

The flat lowered down café racer-style seat provides a comfortable upright posture that is well suited for long rides (and older bones lol). The raised handlebar houses several riding aides on the grips that also include cruise control helping the rider effortlessly cruise through the motorways without having to constantly keep the hands on the throttle. The 6-speed torque-assisted gearbox is also quite helpful and engaging that adds to the pleasure of riding, but perhaps the most exciting part for me was the exhaust note that superbly mimics the sound of old-school classics. One scratches his head to figure out how Triumph managed to fine-tune the exhaust keeping in mind that the technology used underneath the skin is completely different from the one used decades ago.

The overall riding experience is quite relaxing which is partly thanks to the weight that has been shed off the various parts of the bike. The aluminum spoke wheels, a lighter crankshaft, and the absence of a center stand all make a noticeable difference, though the absence of the latter would be problematic for many. Stopping the front aluminum spoke wheels are dual-piston Brembo brakes that in conjunction with the ABS does a good job at bringing the 1200cc motorbike to a halt. In addition to the ABS, there are two riding modes and a revamped instrument cluster that portrays the perfect blend of contemporary & retro looks.

Unfortunately, some essential options such as the center stand & grab handle have been made an optional extra which sounds like a cost-cutting strategy. Nonetheless, a comprehensive suite of upgrades allows it to remain competitive and attractive in this day & age. The availability of numerous trims provides the buyer with wider choices that together with a service interval of 10,000 miles and a sticker price of £11,000 make the 2021 T120 a good option in the classics niche.

Like the look of a T120 then checkout out the lastest new gold line auditions just released: https://superbike-news.co.uk/new-triumph-bonneville-gold-line-editions/

Summary: All in all, the new Triumph Bonneville T120 is a great classic motorbike that has managed to remain true to its roots to this date.

I think I can now officially agree that I am getting on a bit now my body much preferred the Triumph Bonneville T120 over the beast that was the Speed Triple 1200 RS

In my younger days I was always a sports bike rider and was never a fan of classic bikes they were deemed unreliable etc but saying that my 916 used to break down all the time. Maybe it’s a age thing I started appreciating them much more and with the Triumph modern classics you have the looks but backed up with modern reliability and technology.

Following the success of the Street Twin Gold Line Edition launched earlier in 2021, which sold out within the season, the new range of eight Bonneville Gold Line Editions takes the latest generation models and adds a unique and exquisite hand-painted ‘gold line’ colour scheme to each. Perfectly illustrating the quality and attention to detail that Triumph is renowned for, and only available for one year, these new Gold Line Editions are premium, desirable and exclusive.

The Art of Gold Lining
The industry-leading hand-painted gold lining expertise of Triumph’s paint shop is a skill that takes incredible patience, years of experience and the steadiest of hands.

Many of the new Gold Line Edition designs start with a two-colour base scheme, where the joining point between the two colours is flattened down. The gold line is then carefully hand-applied, usually in one continuous stroke by the artist, using a very specialised soft-bristled sword-liner brush. Once the pin stripe is in place, it’s sealed against the elements with a final clear coat of lacquer.

The paints used for the gold lining are specially formulated by mixing a powered colour with a cellulose lacquer for exactly the right consistency, as normal automotive paint is too thin for brush work.

Just like every hand-lined Triumph, the artist adds the finishing detail to each Gold Line Edition by signing their work with their initials, providing a personal touch that makes every hand-painted Triumph special.

Bonneville T100 Gold Line Edition
The Bonneville T100 is the perfect entry-point to Triumph’s acclaimed Modern Classics range, with confidence-inspiring handling, a punchy 900cc twin engine, and a high level of specification including cartridge forks, Brembo front brake with ABS, torque assist clutch and switchable traction control, and of course all of the Bonneville’s signature style.

The Bonneville T100 Gold Line Edition features all of the latest generation updates including the additional 10PS peak power, for a total of 65PS at 7,400rpm and punchy peak torque of 80Nm at 3,750rpm. The low inertia engine is responsive and fully Euro 5 compliant.

The Bonneville T100 Gold Line Edition features a beautiful Silver Ice fuel tank, front and rear mudguards, and side panels, combined with a classic Competition Green fuel tank infill, edged with hand-painted gold lining and subtle ‘gold line’ logo. The Competition Green is also present on the side panel stripe graphics with unique new white and gold Bonneville T100 logos and hand-painted gold lining.

Completing the look, the accessory fly screen is now available in a matching Silver Ice.

Street Scrambler Gold Line Edition
Triumph’s stylish and accessible urban Street Scrambler is powered by the latest generation Euro 5 compliant High Torque 900cc twin engine, with a unique Scrambler tune. It delivers strong power and torque exactly where you need it, with 65PS peak power at 7,250rpm and 80Nm peak torque at 3,250rpm. It’s comfortable, fun and really intuitive to ride, with high-specification cartridge forks and preload-adjustable twin rear shocks, wire spoked wheels with Metzeler Tourance tyres, and a Brembo front brake with switchable ABS

The Gold Line Edition adds to the Street Scrambler’s premium custom style and detailing, with a special Matt Pacific Blue scheme that perfectly suits the bike’s urban attitude and rugged style. The rich blue of the tank beautifully contrasts with the Graphite tank stripe and brushed foil knee pad graphics, both of which have accompanying hand-painted gold lining. The Triumph tank logo echoes that same gold.

The mudguards are finished in a premium Matt Jet Black, as is the side panel, which features a new gold Street Scrambler logo.

An accessory fit matching Matt Pacific Blue flyscreen and high-level mudguard will further add to the authentic Scrambler style.

Bonneville Speedmaster Gold Line Edition
Already a custom classic icon, the new Bonneville Speedmaster Gold Line Edition adds another level of sophistication and style. The beautiful Silver Ice fuel tank with Sapphire Black twin stripe design and brushed foil knee pad graphics is enriched by the hand-painted gold lining that edges every design element and is signed off with the elegant ‘gold line’ logo.

The Sapphire Black is carried across the side panels, which feature a unique new gold and silver Bonneville Speedmaster logo and more hand-painted gold lining. The headlamp bowl and mudguards are finished in Sapphire Black too, with the option of a matching accessory fit short front mudguard.

As with the rest of the Gold Line Editions, the Speedmaster Gold Line Edition is the very latest specification and delivers all of the comfortable, controlled and refined ride that customers expect from the Speedmaster thanks to its 47mm Showa cartridge forks, pre-load adjustable hidden monoshock RSU and twin Brembo front calipers. The low 705mm seat height, swept back beach bars and forward foot controls deliver a laid back, comfortable cruiser style.

The new Speedmaster Gold Line Edition is powered by the latest Euro 5 compliant version of the 1200cc High Torque Bonneville twin engine, delivering 78PS peak power at 6,100rpm and 106Nm peak torque at 4,000rpm.

Bonneville Bobber Gold Line Edition
The new Bonneville Bobber Gold Line Edition’s main design theme is Carnival Red, which is carried across the fuel tank and mudguards. The tank is enriched by a twin stripe design, with brushed foil knee pad graphics. These elements are edged with hand-painted gold lines, complementing the gold Triumph tank badges and the ‘gold line’ signature logo.

The side panels are finished in Sapphire Black, with a unique new gold and silver Bonneville Bobber logo and additional hand-painted gold lining.

The new Bonneville Bobber Gold Line Edition offers all of the latest generation’s updates which, together with the custom-inspired looks, delivers an excellent level of standard equipment, including twin Brembo front brakes with ABS, high-specification Showa suspension and a fat front wheel. The new Bobber Gold Line Edition is equipped with the responsive Euro 5 compliant High Torque 1200cc twin engine with dedicated Bobber tune, which delivers 78PS peak power at 6,100rpm and 106Nm peak torque at 4,000rpm.

An accessory fit matching Carnival Red short front mudguard is also available.

Bonneville T120 and T120 Black Gold Line Editions
Being the very latest specification Bonnevilles, the T120 and T120 Black Gold Line Editions feature all of the Bonneville’s torque-rich 1200cc twin performance, with 80PS peak power at 6,550rpm and 105Nm peak torque at 3,500rpm. Their sophisticated chassis set-up with 41mm cartridge forks, preload-adjustable twin RSUs and twin Brembo front calipers with ABS delivers a dynamic, agile and neutral ride.

The Bonneville T120 Gold Line Edition comes in a wonderful Competition Green and Silver Ice colour scheme. The classic Competition Green infill on the tank is edged with a hand-painted gold line and the subtle ‘gold line’ logo, while the side panels carry a stripe graphic, with a unique white and gold Bonneville T120 logo and hand-painted gold lining.

The mudguards are finished in Silver Ice and there’s an accessory fit matching Silver Ice flyscreen available too.

The Bonneville T120 Black Gold Line Edition, instead, has a darker edge thanks to the sophisticated Matt Sapphire Black paint scheme running across the tank, front and rear mudguards, headlamp bowl and side panels.

The tank infill is Matt Silver Ice, hand-edged with gold line detailing, as are the side panel stripe graphics, which feature a unique new black and gold logo design. The scheme perfectly complements the blacked-out engine, black exhaust system and the wealth of blacked-out details that give the Bonneville T120 Black its characteristic mean and moody attitude.

Both versions of the T120 feature all of the latest generation updates, such as the lightweight aluminium wheels, cruise control and enhanced riding modes, making the T120 and T120 Black Gold Line Editions even more premium and desirable.

Scrambler 1200 XC and XE Gold Line Editions
The Scrambler 1200 also gets its own Gold Line Editions – the versatile XC with its plush suspension and unrivalled, all-road, all-day performance and comfort, and the stunning XE – the world’s first genuine dual purpose modern classic adventurer, with a category-leading level of performance and specification.

Both models are powered by the latest generation Euro 5 High Power 1200cc Bonneville twin engine and both benefit from state-of-the-art rider-focused technology and an exceptional level finish and detailing.

The Scrambler 1200 XC Gold Line Edition comes in a stylish combination of Carnival Red and Storm Grey, with a hand-painted gold line running alongside an Aluminium Silver tank stripe and the subtle signature ‘gold line’ logo. The brushed foil knee pad graphics are also edged with a hand-painted gold line.  The side panel and headlamp bowl are both finished in the classic Jet Black.

The scheme for the Scrambler 1200 XE Gold Line Edition consists of a striking Baja Orange and Silver Ice tank, with a Pure White stripe and hand painted gold line.  As with the XC model, the brushed foil knee pad graphics are gold-lined, and the side panel and headlamp bowl are Jet Black.

Triumph Tiger 900GT Pro Review

Maja Kenney of Maja’s Motorcycle Adventures spends a week with the Triumph Tiger 900GT Pro which includes a two day tour of the Lakes, with many thanks to Triumph Motorcycles UK

The Tiger was dropped off at my house and I took my time walking around it before wheeling it into the garage. It was delivered a day earlier than expected so it had to wait for its first ride until the next day. I circled the bike, looking at all of the details. It was almost a stand off to see if we like each other.

I was pleased to note the colour was red. Having checked it out online I decided that red was the best looking one and now it was in my garage, albeit for a week only. In fact, not just the colour, I quite like the way it looks. Not too big and shouty, it doesn’t look like a bully as some adventure bikes do, and it didn’t fill me with fear that it’ll kick me off when I start to ride it.

I was worried it might be too tall for me but even with the seat at its normal position, I could reach the ground comfortably. Despite this, I have moved the seat to its lower position and that means that at 5”4’, I can almost put both feet flat on the (even) ground. Given my preference for B roads and goat tracks it is safer to have more leg length and be able to stop even where the ground isn’t smooth tarmac.

Top marks for its super smooth gearbox and quickshifter. One of the best I’ve ridden so far. The brakes are sharp, too! And the cruise control is easy to work out but do watch out when you touch the brakes. It slows down rapidly and I got a bit of a shock the first time. I didn’t expect it to slow down quite as fast and ended up with my face a bit too close to the screen for comfort.

Speaking of comfort, this is a good time to mention the heated grips which are excellent and, not forgetting the heated seat. The heated seat has separate controls for the pillion on the side of the pillion seat, and for the rider, on the handlebars. I can’t say there was any benefit to having the seat heated at 15 degrees Celsius and I would like to be able to test this in colder weather before I can decide if it is a worthwhile option. The heated grips, on the other hand, are an absolute must for me. The temperature varied from 10 to 15, occasionally 17 degrees Celsius when the sun was out, but the wind chill was persistent. I was still riding in my summer gloves and the grips were on the whole time. I much prefer this option for as long as I can, before I put on my winter gloves for the season.

One issue I didn’t quite crack is the position of the indicator switch just above a very similar switch that is the OK button for confirming the menu choices. They are close together and feel very similar with gloves on. A couple of times I wasn’t actually indicating but merely pushing the OK button left or right which upset a couple of road users behind me. Speaking to other Tiger owners they mentioned the same and said that once they have gotten used to it, it wasn’t a problem anymore.

I do have a preference for something a bit sportier looking and riding a sports tourer myself, I didn’t really appreciate why one would go for an adventure style bike. After riding the Tiger for a week, and taking it on a real tour for a few days, I now understand. I had to get used to how certain speed feels on this bike which meant I was going faster than intended for a while. With so much wind protection I felt I was going slower where I was actually much faster than anticipated. Oops.

The seating position is so relaxed and comfortable that even after a few days of constant riding I never felt tired quite as much as I normally do. It almost felt wrong. Like a workout when you didn’t try hard enough and you have no muscle ache afterwards. But this was also really, really good. I didn’t need a zimmer frame to get out of bed in the morning or do any elaborate yoga stretches just to feel my toes again.

The surprising bit was the cornering. The Tiger just leans in and carries you around that corner without you having to do much. No fighting with the bike and no convincing it that you really want to go around that bend safely. The Tiger is agile, light and so very smooth.

Then there was the riding on my favourite roads. The less known, little B roads that are inevitably littered with gravel, potholes and livestock. Despite the rugged road surface, the bike shaking was minimal, the suspension doing a fantastic job and I didn’t even need to stand on the footpegs for comfort although I did try it anyway just because I could.

I really appreciated the higher sitting position for the views. Being able to see over the stone walls and into the valley opened up the view and allowed me to take in the sights I would have otherwise missed. It also means you spot the oncoming traffic much sooner and can position the bike accordingly.

The trip away was for two nights only and my luggage was minimal therefore I had no need for the panniers or the topbox. Everything was packed into a rollbag that was attached to the pillion seat. I had to practice a couple of times on how to mount and dismount the bike in the most elegant way but I cracked it and never once kicked the rollbag when dismounting.

Overall I was surprisingly impressed with everything about the bike, how easy and smooth it is to ride and how well we got on. I am not ready to trade in my sports tourer yet but I am leaning towards maybe having a proper adventure bike as a winter one in my garage.

Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS

Triumph is regarded as the leader of the British motorbike industry all around the world and for good reason. The brand’s motorbikes have maintained their classic appeal & top-notch quality to this date that has allowed it to establish a strong fanbase in many regions. Speaking of Triumph’s fanbase, it would be injustice not to discuss my detailed encounter with the legendary Speed Triple 1200 RS that is every bit as fun on the road as it is on the track.

At first glance, the latest Speed Triple 1200 RS looks quite contemporary but at the same time, it manages to remain loyal to its predecessor that too had earmarked its territory in the motorbike industry during its entire reign. The front fascia is almost the same, but the main difference comes in the form of pronounced cuts & creases on the tank and the overall athletic styling that has given the 1200 RS a much-needed uplift. Everything looks perfect in its place thanks to the styling that perfectly complements the overall character and does not try hard at convincing you that it’s the latest iteration of the 1200 RS.

Great styling often comes at the expense of compromised ergonomics, but that is certainly not the case with Triumph’s Speed Triple 1200 RS. The controls are all well within the range and thus do not require any extra effort whether you’re on the road or the track. In fact, you can perfectly toggle around the driving modes & other settings on the go which for me is a deal-breaker. The display might not be the biggest or brightest when compared with the competitors, but it does a decent job at delivering the necessary metrics. Since this is a naked motorbike, therefore, the handlebars are slightly raised and wider, therefore, the turning circle and maneuvering capabilities are a bit compromised.

Riding style and ergonomics are quite closely linked, so let’s talk a bit about the riding style. The 1200 RS is primarily a track-focused machine but at the same, it isn’t a supersport motorbike, therefore, the riding posture is a hybrid in between that of a supersport motorbike and a traditional naked motorbike. The seat height is a bit high, which is great for a tall person like me but people with average height may struggle to get their feet on the asphalt. On the whole, the riding posture is perfect for someone looking for a naked motorbike that is fused with the attributes of a supersport bike.

Undoubtedly, the most prominent feature of the 1200 RS is its high-revving in-line 4-pot engine that delivers almost 180 hp, up by 30 hp from the outgoing generation. The chunky engine loves to rev at high ends and is quick to respond after 3000 RPM. The brilliant high-end pulling power makes it a great track machine, but it in no way means that you will be disappointed with its on-road capabilities. Despite being a Euro-5 compliant engine, its roar is a sheer joy to the ears and I, for one, don’t think that any rider would need to make a switch to an aftermarket exhaust.

The 6-speed gearbox accompanying the 1160cc engine is as smooth as it gets. The quickshifter works like a charm and lets you sweep past each gear effortlessly & swiftly. Apart from its rev-happy powerplant and the butter smooth gearbox, the Triumph 1200 RS has several other aids to offer that make it an excellent road & track machine. The cornering ABS takes micro-seconds to activate, and the riding modes aren’t just there as a formality, each one of them alters the driving dynamics according to your input which provides you with the confidence that the 1200cc monster of a bike can handle any situation, apart from, of course, off-roading tracks.

The riding comfort of naked motorbikes is always tuned to suit urban road conditions; however, bigger displacement naked bikes are somewhat an exception. It’s the same case for Speed 1200 RS, the riding comfort has been delicately calibrated to match the thrilling output of the engine and therefore you would feel some bumps when riding on rough patches. This tradeoff allows superb cornering ability that is also in part to lighter & improved chassis and better weight distribution. The Öhlins dampers are manually adjustable which is kind of a letdown since the rival Ducati has fully electronically adjustable dampers. Nevertheless, the dampers have enough adjustability to match the road conditions which came in handy during my hour-long ride on country roads.

Overall Triumph’s latest iteration of 1200 RS has got everything under its belt to provide you with the thrill you expect from a 1200cc naked behemoth. The impeccable build quality and that too at a reasonable price tag further make this motorbike an enticing option for riders who want the best of both worlds. Not to forget the fact that the bike is also aesthetically attractive which makes it quite a head-turner out on the city streets.

Triumph’s all-new Tiger Sport 660 is the new definition of triple powered versatility, with its 660cc triple engine performance advantages, class-leading power and specification, plus great long-distance touring capability.

Just like the Trident 660, launched to international acclaim last year, the new Tiger Sport 660 has been designed to set a whole new benchmark for performance, specification and cost of ownership. Bringing significant advantages to the middleweight adventure sports category, the Tiger Sport 660 delivers a new first choice for riders looking for maximum versatility in every ride. From commuting, to everyday riding, to longer trips, the new Tiger 660 delivers the capability, performance, handling and style needed to introduce a whole new generation of riders into the Triumph brand.

Triple engine performance advantage
The first triple cylinder engine in the category, and the most powerful – the 660cc powerplant in the new Tiger Sport 660 brings Triumph’s triple engine performance advantages over a twin engine with its low-down torque, combined with strong mid-range performance, and incredible top-end power.

Peak torque of 64Nm at 6,250rpm and peak power of 81PS at 10,250rpm make the new Tiger Sport 660 the most powerful bike in the class, guaranteeing great acceleration in any gear, even when carrying a pillion or progressing swiftly through traffic. It delivers the perfect balance of thrilling useable performance from low down in the rev range, all the way to the red line.

Power delivery is managed by a sophisticated engine management system with a ride-by-wire throttle for a precise and responsive feel, while the slick 6-speed gearbox has gear ratios optimised for fun and all-round everyday rideability.

The 660 triple engine’s distinctive, deep exhaust note is delivered through a short and minimalistic underslung stainless-steel silencer.

The engine is fully Euro 5 compliant, delivering low emissions as well as excellent fuel economy, and can be adapted to meet European A2 license regulations through an easily reversible accessory conversion kit.

Designed to set the new category benchmark for handling
The new Tiger Sport 660 has been designed to deliver Triumph’s trademark dynamic, agile and comfortable handling. Perfectly balanced and easy to control, with precise steering aided by lightweight aluminium tapered handlebars, the new 660 delivers a commanding and confidence-inspiring ride. The twin seat is practical and comfortable, with an accessible rider seat height of 835mm and ergonomically optimised pillion grab handles fitted as standard. The Tiger Sport 660 also benefits from a slim stand over width, for easy manoeuvrability at lower speeds and a planted feel at a standstill.

The suspension has been carefully developed to deliver all of Triumph’s renowned handling advantages, with a sporty feel when riding alone, while also offering a plush feel for longer trips and two-up touring. On the front, the Tiger Sport 660 is equipped with 41mm Showa upside-down cartridge forks, delivering 150mm of wheel travel. These are perfectly matched with the Showa monoshock on the rear, with a dual rate spring to optimise performance for solo or pillion riding. The monoshock also features remote hydraulic preload adjustability for tailoring the ride for a pillion and/or luggage.

The 5-spoke, 17” wheels are lightweight cast aluminium, adding to the bike’s exceptional agility, while the Michelin Road 5 tyres bring great road holding performance in both dry and wet conditions. Excellent stopping power is achieved thanks to the Nissin 2-piston sliding calipers with twin 310mm front discs, controlled by the span-adjustable brake lever.

Long-distance touring capability
Practicality and versatility are top of the list for middleweight adventure sports riders, and the new Tiger Sport 660 delivers all of the capability needed for commuting and city riding, as well as weekend escapes and longer trips.

The beautifully shaped tank holds 17 litres of fuel giving great range, while the sleek and aerodynamic screen is height adjustable through a simple, one-handed operation, enabling the rider to easily adjust the level of weather and wind protection while riding.

Touring capability is further enhanced with the discreetly integrated pannier mounts, which allow for the easy and seamless fitment of the dedicated new accessory panniers whilst maintaining the clean styling of the rear bodywork when riding without luggage. For additional luggage capacity an accessory 47-litre top box is also available, which can securely accommodate two full face helmets. The panniers and top box can also be colour coded to match the bike.

Class-leading technology for maximum safety and control
The new Tiger Sport 660 is equipped with a category-leading standard of rider technology, including the new multi-functional instruments with TFT display, a first in the class, which provide all necessary rider information in a clear, compact and uncluttered design. These have been specifically designed to integrate seamlessly with the accessory fit My Triumph connectivity system, which enables turn-by-turn navigation, GoPro control, and phone and music interaction, all operated via the switchgear and displayed clearly on the TFT screen for easy rider interaction while riding.

Also class-leading are the two high-specification riding modes, Road and Rain, which adjust the throttle response and traction control settings, improving rider control for greater confidence in all riding conditions. Safety is further enhanced with ABS and switchable traction control, both fitted as standard on the Tiger Sport 660. Traction control can be turned off completely, via the instruments, if desired.

To further improve the riding experience, the Tiger Sport 660 is equipped with a slip and assist clutch and a span-optimised clutch lever for light and easy operation, reducing rider fatigue, particularly in urban riding.

For maximum efficiency and durability, lighting is LED across the entire motorcycle, including the distinctive new twin headlights, the compact and integrated tail light, and the self-cancelling indicators.

Dynamic new Tiger Sport 660 character and distinctive style
The new Tiger Sport 660 beautifully integrates practicality with contemporary adventure sports design. With a confident and distinctive poise, the new 660 features all-new bodywork sculpted for clean, flowing lines from the cockpit, with its twin headlight set up, right through to the minimal rear end and contoured tail light.

Additional premium styling details include the teardrop mirrors, sculpted radiator cowls and fork protectors, and the minimalistic underslung stainless-steel silencer.

Riders can choose between three attractive colour schemes: the contemporary Lucerne Blue and Sapphire Black, the vibrant Korosi Red and Graphite with distinctive sporty graphics, or a minimalist Graphite and Black option.

Lowest cost of ownership in the entire category
As well as being competitively priced given the category-leading level of specification, the new Tiger Sport 660 benefits from the lowest cost of ownership in the category. This includes its 10,000 mile or 16,000 kilometre (or 12 months) service interval plus its 2-year unlimited mileage warranty, which can be optionally extended by 1 or 2 years. This is made possible thanks to the extensive testing program that underpins Triumph’s most reliable engine platform.

This high level of reliability is directly reflected in the Tiger Sport having the lowest workshop cost in the category. Over a 3-year service timeframe, the Tiger Sport 660 requires the lowest level of workshop time in the category, at just over 8 hours, making it 30% more cost effective than its competition in terms of labour costs. Plus, the Tiger Sport 660 has the lowest maintenance parts cost over three years – 17% cheaper than the closest competitors.

Accessible individuality: Genuine Triumph accessories
An extensive range of over 40 genuine Triumph accessories are available for the new Tiger Sport 660, allowing customers to add even more practicality, technology, comfort and protection to their motorcycle, as well as versatile luggage options. All genuine accessories have been engineered alongside the motorcycle itself and all are subjected to the same rigorous quality and durability testing processes.

As well as the My Triumph Connectivity system, accessories include the Triumph Shift Assist up and down quickshifter, heated grips, under-seat USB charger, scrolling indicators, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Luggage options include the all-new fully integrated panniers and two-helmet top box, both of which can be colour coded to match the motorcycle, plus a lightweight cast aluminium luggage rack and fully waterproof roll bag.

For added protection, riders can add frame, engine and fork protectors, and for maximum security, an alarm and tracker are available (market specific) along with a range of bike locks.

All genuine Triumph accessories come with the same two-year unlimited mileage warranty as the motorcycle itself.

Triumph Motorcycles and The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride renew their partnership for five more years

Triumph Motorcycles are proud to announce that they will continue as main partner and supporter of The Distinguished Gentleman Ride (DGR), one of the world’s largest and most stylish charity motorcycle fundraising event, for another historic five years.

The renewal of this important partnership represents a natural continuation of what has been a great success story, both from the perspective of raising funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health, but also in the incredible participation and the riding community it has generated for hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists worldwide

As the DGR’s major sponsor since 2014, Triumph Motorcycles are proud to have played a key role in partnership with Mark Hawwa and his team in helping develop the DGR into the world-spanning event that it is today. Contributing support and resources across the years that have raised awareness, amplified the DGR’s voice and rewarded its participants has been at the heart of Triumph’s role. This in turn has led to legions of Triumph riders, Triumph dealers, staff, family, and friends enjoying their motorcycles, dressing dapper and sharing a common bond in support of their community.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride’s was founded to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health, by uniting classic and vintage style motorcycle riders, old and new all around the world. Triumph Motorcycles embraced this cause and in early 2014, committed to support the DGR through their global marketing team and channels, and to provide The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride with Modern Classic motorcycles to be won as prizes to reward and promote fundraising.

Over 8 incredible years, Triumph Motorcycles and The DGR have worked together with the common goal of increasing the profile of The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride around the world, to grow this amazing community of riders and ultimately increase the number of people participating and the level of funds raised to support the cause.

On 28th September 2014 the first Triumph-sponsored DGR took place in 58 counties, 257 cities and it was attended by 20,000 dapper-dressed classic and vintage riders, raising a total of $1.5m. Growing to 79 countries, 410 cities, 37,000 riders and $2.3m raised in 2015, and 90 countries, 57,000 riders and $3.6m in 2016, these numbers have just kept growing and growing – up to the DGR’s record breaking year in 2019, where 116,00 riders raised $6m by riding dapper together in an amazing 104 countries across the world.

The 2020 Covid-19 pandemic presented a challenging landscape for The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride and riders alike. Despite such difficult times and dynamics, the DGR worked hard to develop a new format that made it possible for riders to show their support and passion safely, with the Ride Solo Together event. This enabled the global DGR community to achieve its most global event ever, with 171 countries and 2,531 locations riding solo together, all connected together through social media.

As challenges persisted during 2021 The Distinguished Gentleman’s ride adapted its format again to reflect the different level of restrictions worldwide, where depending on the restrictions in place in each area DGR fans enjoy a normal group ride event, route only or solo ride.

As a result of this evolved approach, we saw a considerable increase in participants and funds raised compared to the previous year with 65,300 riders, almost 10,000 more compared to 2020, raising $4.1m, $1.4m more than 2020.

In 2021, the event moved from September to May, and every indication gives hope and confidence for an amazing ride in 2022 ride, which everyone involved is committed to making the most successful year ever.

Mark Hawwa. Founder/Director of The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride.
“In 2014 when we first partnered with Triumph Motorcycles, I was incredibly excited. They are the only motorcycle manufacturer that I felt perfectly fit with The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride. We’ve done some wonderful things since then; together we have been able to reward some of our top and most dedicated fundraisers with brand new bikes from the modern classic range and built the custom one-of-one 2021 Triumph Thruxton RS. Today, 8 years later as we announce the 5-year continuation of this partnership, I am even more excited than I was in 2014 because, with the next 5 years, I know that we can do even more together with the goal of raising funds and awareness of men’s health.”

Paul Stroud. Triumph Chief Commercial Officer
“From the very beginning we could see the DGR was something truly special that the team at Triumph were incredibly keen to be involved with, both for the cause it represented but also the great day of riding and fun of dressing dapper it delivered. We are proud to have been the main partner for the last eight years and honoured to have been able to play a part in helping grow  such a positive and impactful force for good. Across our world, from our dealers to our staff, to Triumph fans and DGR riders globally it’s very easy to see how much passion and engagement there is for this significant event and riding cause. The renewal of our partnership with The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was a natural decision to take, based not only on the success and growth of participation that has raised Triumph’s profile, but also because we share that passion and are committed to supporting Mark, his team and the DGR community worldwide in their mission, to reach ever higher”

The new Speed Triple 1200 RR has been designed to reflect the UK automotive world’s proud tradition of combining distinctive British elegance with exhilarating real-world performance. Creating a new dimension for riders who love the iconic nature of the Speed Triple with its unique character and road-focused sports performance, the new RR represents a step up in both beauty and capability, to deliver something more unique, more characterful, and truly authentic. In essence, a modern take on a café racer, and the ultimate sports bike for the road.

A new statement in beauty, sophistication and attitude

The new Speed Triple 1200 RR delivers a new pinnacle in the style and design of Triumph’s modern roadster icon. With pure and flowing lines and a more sports-focused, nose-down riding position and silhouette, the RR brings a committed and arresting new look.

The stunning new cockpit fairing, sculpted to incorporate the signature-RR single round headlight set-up, gives the bike an instantly recognisable look and even more desirable style. Attention to detail is key to this beautiful machine, and so the whole cockpit area has been kept clean and uncluttered through the clever use of hidden cabling and hoses.

Premium new carbon fibre infill panels add an extra level of detailing to the tank, fairing and cockpit, and when combined with the new carbon fibre side panels and beautifully made carbon fibre front mudguard, the RR feels exquisitely crafted.

This new model comes in two stunning paint schemes – the Red Hopper and Storm Grey scheme which is a really rich and lustrous colour combination, or the equally striking Crystal White and Storm Grey option with premium gold detailing. Both schemes come, as standard, with a colour coded belly pan and colour coded seat cowl, which is supplied alongside the pillion seat and is easily interchangeable.

The most focused and exhilarating Speed Triple ride ever

Equipped with a lightweight and compact chassis with a cast aluminium frame, the new Speed Triple RR was designed to deliver all the incredible agility and pinpoint precise handling of a 765 Street Triple RS, with all the performance and attitude of the latest generation Speed. And now the new RR takes the specification to an even higher level with new ergonomics and more advanced track-derived equipment, making it the most exhilarating and sport-focused Speed Triple ride ever.

Commanding new rider-ergonomics give the new RR its fully engaging ride, without compromising comfort. Updates include new focused clip-on handlebars, which are 135mm lower and 50mm further forward than the Speed Triple 1200 RS, plus a tailored new foot peg position. When combined with the accessible 830mm seat height, narrow tank and sculpted seat profile, the new RR delivers maximum comfort and control.

The sports edge to the RR is underlined by the premium specification of equipment that comes as standard. Instrumental to this is the new Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 electronically adjustable, semi-active front and rear suspension, which is the most advanced suspension system available from Öhlins. This new system has been specifically tuned to suit the RR’s geometry, to deliver the optimum balance of performance, comfort and control.  It’s fully adjustable, even while riding, via the TFT instruments, and uses a highly-advanced suspension control unit to continually monitor the input received, including riding style, speed and acceleration to automatically adjust both compression and rebound damping in response.

The Speed Triple 1200 RR also benefits from lightweight track-spec twin Brembo Stylema® monobloc front calipers and lightweight 320mm floating front discs, providing precise braking performance. These are controlled via a Brembo front brake lever with multi-click system for span and ratio adjustability, to allow the rider to tailor the ergonomics for maximum comfort and control. On the rear, the stopping power is provided by a Brembo twin-piston caliper and 220mm single disc.

The 17” cast aluminium wheels are extremely lightweight and are fitted with the new high-performance Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3 tyres, unique to the RR, delivering incredible response, stability and grip on both racetrack and road. For even more focused track use, there is also an approved track-only specification: the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC2 V3.

All of the latest generation’s triple powered revolution in performance

Impressive performance and distinctive character come naturally to the Speed Triple RR’s 1160cc triple engine – the same lightweight, efficient and high performing engine that already powers the RS model.

With every component optimised for power, torque and response, the powertrain delivers an impressive 180PS peak power at 10,750rpm, and 125Nm peak torque at 9,000 rpm. And, characteristic of all Triumph triple engines, the torque curve is smooth and strong from low down, right through the mid-range and all the way up to peak revs for incredible punch and acceleration. The low-inertia engine delivers outstanding responsiveness and a beautifully refined and precise feel.

The stacked 6-speed gearbox is compact and light weight, with optimised ratio progression to precisely match the power curve, guaranteeing super slick gear changes. The lightweight slip and assist clutch uses ramps in the clutch to force it together when under load, adding to the force of the clutch springs and allowing more power to be transmitted from the engine to the gearbox.  The opposite is also true when downshifting aggressively, where a controlled amount of clutch slip is allowed to maximise rear wheel control.

The side-mounted, brushed stainless-steel single silencer with black end cap delivers the Speed Triple’s signature hair-raising and visceral sound for a sporty and engaged riding experience.

All of the latest generation’s premium specification technology

As with the Speed Triple 1200 RS, the RR comes with a full suite of state-of-the-art rider aids, electronics and convenience features designed to not only make the ride easier and safer, but also deliver a tailored set-up for different riding scenarios.

Key to its premium specification is the full-colour 5” TFT instruments, with the My Triumph connectivity system fitted as standard. Android and IOS compatible, this enables phone call and music operation, turn-by-turn navigation (developed in partnership with Google) and GoPro control. All are accessed and managed via the backlit switch cubes and conveniently displayed on the optically bonded TFT screen, which guarantees minimal reflections for excellent image clarity. The intuitive user interface enables on-the-go adjustment of many settings and incorporates a lap timer for use on track.

The RR is also equipped as standard with Triumph’s most-advanced optimised cornering ABS and switchable optimised cornering traction control systems. These use an inertial measurement unit to measure roll, pitch, yaw and acceleration rates, in order to calculate the lean angle and precisely control the ABS and traction control response to match, optimising slip rates and torque control to suit the specific riding mode chosen.

Linked to the traction control system is the advanced front wheel lift detection system, which uses advanced algorithms for precise control.

The new RR features five riding modes – Road, Rain, Sport, Rider-configurable, and also a Track mode, which has minimal ABS and traction control intervention. The riding modes have multiple levels of intervention to choose from and are selected and adjusted via the TFT instruments.

Another key feature for use on the road and on track is the Triumph Shift Assist up and down quickshifter, which has been developed using the insight Triumph has gained through its involvement in the World Moto2TM championship. It features an advanced sensor that gives the engine control unit a wealth of information, allowing both up and down gear shifts to be fully mapped against a number of parameters, exactly as the Moto2TM race teams do.

When up-shifting, the Triumph Shift Assist adjusts factors such as ignition, fuel, and throttle angle, to momentarily relieve the pressure on the gears and allow them to slide. This is a much more sophisticated system than a traditional quickshifter, which would simply cut the ignition. When down-shifting, again the system monitors and adjusts various parameters and precisely controls the throttle blips, guaranteeing a smooth shift.

Lighting is LED throughout for maximum durability and efficiency. There’s a daytime running light incorporated into the new single round headlight (where market legislation permits) and a distinctive rear light integrated into the tail unit with unique light signature, plus LED self-cancelling indicators.

The new Speed Triple 1200 RR is also equipped with additional ride-enhancing technology including a full keyless system (incorporating keyless ignition, steering lock and fuel filler cap) and fully adjustable cruise control.

Ready to personalise

As with all Triumph motorcycles, personalisation is at the heart of the new RR, with a range of over 30 genuine accessories, all of which have been developed alongside the motorcycle itself for perfect integration. These have all been tested to the same exacting quality and durability standards and all come with Triumph’s two-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Accessories include machined front and rear brake reservoirs, scrolling indicators, heated grips and even luggage, with a water-resistant tail pack and tank bag, both with quick release mounting – all of which are available to view on the online configurator.

Ownership benefits

Reflecting Triumph’s excellent standards of quality and reliability, the new Speed Triple 1200 RR has high service intervals of 10,000 miles (16,000 kilometres) or 12 months, whichever comes first.

The new Speed Triple 1200 RR also comes with Triumph’s two-year unlimited mileage warranty, which can be extended by one or two years for additional peace of mind.

Triumph Motorcycles Launches Ride Out To Help Out Campaign

Triumph Motorcycles is launching ‘Ride Out to Help Out’, a campaign to encourage the biking community to visit and nominate small businesses up and down the country that have faced months of closure and uncertainty during the pandemic.

The campaign, which kicks off on 6 September, will celebrate the ride out destinations at the heart of the motorcycling community, from cafés and chip shops, to pubs and ice cream vans. They all provide a great excuse for a ride out and by nominating a venue, or riding out to one, all riders can help these fantastic independent businesses to get back on their feet.

To launch the campaign, Triumph dealers and some of the brand’s ambassadors including Victoria Pendleton, George North, Maria Costello MBE and George Clarke have been nominating their favourite spots for a ride out.

Below is a sample of the venues nominated so far – the full list is available to view on the Triumph website here.

  • Koti Autotalli, Oxfordshire
  • Oily Rag, Gloucestershire
  • Woodchester Mansion, Gloucestershire
  • East Coast Gelato, Hunstanton
  • Baffle Haus, Pontypool
  • Bike Shed, London
  • Ryka’s Café, Surrey (we nominated Ryka’s Café)
  • Super Sausage Café, Northamptonshire

There is no limit to the number of locations that can be involved in the campaign, and now Triumph is looking for the community to nominate their own favourite spots.

Riders can put forward their best-loved locations in two ways. Firstly, by visiting the Triumph nomination page at www.rideouttohelpout.com to register the venue. Alternatively, riders can simply share their favourite destination on social media using the hashtag #RideOutToHelpOut.

All the businesses nominated to take part in the campaign will be promoted via the Triumph website and social media channels.

Devron Boulton, Triumph UK & Ireland General Manager, said: “The last 18 months have affected us all in many ways. Now we’re able to ride freely with friends again, the Ride Out to Help Out campaign is a fantastic way of encouraging more bikers from further afield to visit the hidden gems that have been nominated. It’s time to grab our helmets and show our support.”

The website will remain live into 2022 to allow riders to saddle up, discover and share places to ride in their surrounding areas and across the UK.
