Triumph To Power Moto2 For Another Three Years

Triumph Motorcycles will continue to provide their record-breaking 765cc triple powerplants as Exclusive Engine Supplier to the FIM Moto2™ World Championship for another three seasons, from 2022-2024.

Since the start of the 2019 season, Triumph Motorcycles has provided all of the teams with race-tuned 765cc triples, each of which is based on the class-leading Street Triple RS engine. With developments that allow it to breathe more freely, rev harder and deliver a peak power output of more than 140PS (an increase of over 17% on the production engine).

This 765cc triple brought to the category a much-welcomed boost in power, transforming the performance and level of competition.

Following Dorna’s intent to bring the Moto2™ series closer to MotoGP™, the increase in power and torque, combined with a more advanced electronics package, has provided a more relevant training and development ground, whilst enhancing the overall racing in its own right.

In the last two years Moto2™ graduates have gone on to take podiums and victories in their first seasons in the premier MotoGP class: 2019 Moto2™ World Champion Alex Marquez taking a pair of second places in 2020, and title rival Brad Binder with a victory also in 2020 and more recently in Austria 2021. Jorge Martin took his first Moto2™ victory in 2020, followed a year later with his maiden MotoGP™ win and a further two podiums in 2021. These incredible results go to prove how Moto2™ has become the natural springboard for MotoGP™ that Dorna envisaged.

Redefining the category, records have also fallen across the board. As well as 14 different race winners since 2019 there have been lap records set at 34 events, including records which have been broken and re-broken year-on-year, and the first ever 300+km/h top speed for a Moto2™ machine. The record stands at 301.8km/h at Phillip Island, Australia.

Reflecting these great successes, the wonderful feedback and partnerships we have had with the riders and their teams, and the incredible response from Triumph fans across the world, we have decided in partnership with Dorna, along with the continuing support of Externpro, to extend our relationship and sign a new contract for another three years of racing.

Steve Sargent, Triumph Motorcycles Chief Product Officer
”Moto2 has been the perfect environment to showcase, and prove the reliability and performance advantages of, our triple engines, where we have seen the top 20 qualifying times consistently come within a second of each other. Not only has it raised our profile and credibility on the world stage, for me the success of Moto2 has also been an incredible catalyst, reigniting the passion for racing within Triumph motorcycles. I am delighted to have played a part in this landmark activity for Triumph and excited to see the extension to another 3 seasons. We are committed to delivering further improvements to the performance of the engines, which we are sure will be appreciated by both the riders and the teams.

Carlos Ezpeleta, Dorna Sports Managing Director, said:
“Our first years together have been a wonderful success and I’d like to thank Triumph for their help and hard work over these first three years – especially during the pandemic. The FIM, IRTA and Dorna are happy with the results this project has shown and it’s validated the consistency of the steps between Moto3™, Moto2™ and MotoGP™. Overall, we are pleased with the partnership and we look forward to three more exciting years together.”

Triumph Motorcycles Showcases Racing Heritage

Triumph Motorcycles showcases racing heritage and pays tribute to celebrated rider Craig Jones with memorial lap.

With Triumph Motorcycles firmly back in the paddock for the British Supersport Championship with the Dynavolt Triumph Team, round 5 at Donington circuit was a fitting occasion to demonstrate a series of activities.  A memorial lap took place, attributed to acclaimed rider Craig Jones, along with a unique display of heritage racing motorcycles and the opportunity for Triumph owners to ride their bikes on a lap of the 1.9mile Midlands circuit.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the return of the Valmoto Triumph 600 Daytona to the track. Last publicly ridden by Craig Jones in the 2004 Championship where Jones delivered some incredible performances, including a victorious win on the ‘last corner, last lap, last race’ back in 2004 at Donington Circuit before he sadly passed away in 2008.

2011 BSB Champion and friend of Craig Jones, Tommy Hill rode the #18 bike, kindly loaned from Dick Shepherd and the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience, to pay tribute to Jones and celebrate the famous victory.

Tommy was joined on track by fellow rider Scott Smart who followed closely on another celebrated motorcycle: 2012 Triumph 675 Daytona #1, previously ridden by Glen Richards for Smiths Racing, the British Supersport Champion in 2012.

The significance of the story warmed hearts around the circuit and brought Craig Jones’ family members, racing managers, and commentator Fred Clarke to the circuit to honour the moment.

Custodian of the motorcycle, Dick Shepherd said: “With such significant history it’s been great to be able to carry on the memories back here at Donington. It’s lovely to see everyone come together and share this special moment, from across the circuit.”

If you missed the action, these bikes alongside another 11 from the Triumph Daytona bloodline feature in a current exhibition at the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience. This is free to enter and open Wednesday to Sunday, 10:00am to 4:30pm.

Triumph Motorcycles Unveils All-New Factory Tour

Triumph Motorcycles Factory Visitor Experience has launched an all-new Factory Tour.

The redesigned factory tour now includes a visit to the Centre of Excellence, home of Triumph’s prototype development and 3D printing, and the world-renowned paint shop. A new UK assembly line can also be viewed during the tour.

The new assembly facility has been designed to build several thousand motorcycles a year across a wide variety of Triumph models for the UK and European markets. This follows Triumph’s plan to continue to build motorcycles in the UK and to increase capacity to respond to shifts in customer demand, while focussing on the UK and European markets.

With this refreshed factory tour, visitors can get close to the 3D designs, tools and components being used in early-stage prototype builds whilst being guided through a new state-of-the-art facility, as Triumph promises to continue to build all its engineering prototypes at the Hinckley Headquarters.

Nicole Coates, one of the first visitors on the new Factory Tour, said: “It is quite impressive! I have come away with a great appreciation for the quality that’s coming from Triumph. I was surprised to see so many people working by hand rather than robots. It is such a personable experience; the staff working in the Factory looked very at ease and proud of what they were doing.”

Anthony Coates, who had received the Factory Tour as a gift, added: “The experience overall has been great. The tour guides pitch it very well throughout the route – it’s easy to follow and understand. Even after the Factory Tour, we visited the Exhibition which was fascinating, and the Café was very satisfying with friendly, welcoming staff. I would recommend the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience!”

Simon Thrussell, Head of Customer Experience, commented: “We are very much looking forward to welcoming everybody back to enjoy the fantastic new factory tour. A team from across the business has worked relentlessly to create a thoroughly engaging, educational and exciting experience that the whole family can enjoy.”

Tickets can be booked online from the Triumph Motorcycles website, priced from £20 per person. The Exhibition, 1902 Café and Factory Shop will continue to offer free entry.

First Look At The New Triumph Speed Twin

Last friday we were invited to attend the first look of new Triumph Speed Twin at Triumph’s Hinckley Factory but due to various reasons I was unable to attend. So I asked Maja Kenney of Maja’s Motorcycle Adventures she kindly took my place,  heres her initial impression.

Last week I had the pleasure of taking out Triumph’s best-selling modern classic – the Speed Twin that has been updated for 2021.

When I arrived at Triumph I was walked through the controls on the bike. There were no surprises, you’ll be happy to hear. I was then set free to explore some of the quaint Warwickshire villages and lanes.

My first goal was to find a pub. It was lunchtime, I was hungry and I wanted to sit down and look at the bike properly. I have found a lovely pub with parking and outdoor seating. Perfect. I parked up, stopped the engine, and looked for the side stand. I fished with my left foot to kick it out but couldn’t do it. I was sitting on the bike, getting hot as the sun was beaming down on me and by now, the customers in the pub garden started to pay attention. I still couldn’t get the side stand out.

Eventually, I had to lean over and unfold it by hand. But let me explain. I wasn’t exactly wearing the right type of clothing for this beautiful machine. I was in full leathers and racing boots because I had literally gone from Cadwell Park to the Triumph factory. This is not what one might normally choose to wear on a bike like this and therefore the stiffness of the boot meant I had to angle my foot just so, to get the side stand out. Once I figured it out it was as easy as on any other bike.

First things first. The bike is beautiful. I have a huge appreciation for old machines, this includes cars and motorcycles. Thank you, dad! That doesn’t mean I would necessarily choose to run an old classic myself, I don’t know enough about the maintenance. But to have a modern classic where maintenance is easy and the ride feels as effortless as modern bikes do these days, it makes for an interesting proposition.

The setup was perfect for just such a day out. Sunshine, country lanes, big open spaces, and quaint sleepy villages. The seating position is super comfortable, straight back, head up, knees not too bent. The seat height is at 809 mm and the seat itself is quite narrow which means you don’t lose much of the height if your legs are of a shorter disposition.

Big flat bars make the bike super easy to maneuver and a joy to go around the bends. The total (wet) weight of the bike is 216 kg which surprised me as this is almost the same as my Supersport and for some reason I expected the Speed Twin to be lighter.

The Speed Twin is perfectly happy doing 30 mph letting you enjoy the scenery and the gentle ride through the villages. But don’t be fooled, with its 1200cc engine and 98.6 bhp it produces a pretty swift power delivery when you open up the throttle. I got caught out at first, I was wearing waterproofs over my leathers and I slid back on the seat when I came to a clear bit of the road. I had to laugh and I was a bit more steady with the throttle on the next attempt and when overtaking.

Switching between the riding modes is easy. All you have to do is stop the bike and have it in neutral gear, keep the engine running and press one button once for rain mode, again for road mode and again for sport mode. It’s that simple.

The detail and the styling of the Speed Twin have clearly had plenty of attention. The brushed aluminium fuel cap, front and rear mudguards, side panel finishers and heel guards are set off beautifully against the stunning red paint of the fuel tank. Or the Red hopper paint scheme as it is officially called. Two more colour schemes are available, Matt Storm Grey with subtle yellow accents and the Jet Black.

The bar end mirrors finish the look off nicely and the signature LED daylight running light is incorporated into the headlight. The rear light and the indicators are also LED.

It also comes with 50+ accessories according to their marketing department but an engineer I spoke to in the warehouse said the reality is that half of these are a different colour choice of the same thing. So here’s some straight-talking-non-marketing-fact for you.

Overall, a stunning looking motorcycle that is as happy bimbling along at 30 mph or slower when taking in the views and passing picturesque areas as it is enjoying a more spirited ride to really make you feel the wind on your face.

Thanks again to Triumph UK for the invite to try out the new Speed Twin you can find further details here: https://www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/motorcycles/classic/bonneville-speed-twin-2021

Triumph Trident 660

Triumph is one of the oldest motorcycle manufacturers in the world that continues its legacy of providing fun, agile & distinct motorcycles to enthusiasts all over the world. The latest addition of Trident 660 has infused a new spirit and provided riders with an “entry-level” Triumph that is every bit true to Triumph’s DNA as it gets. The 660cc streetfighter has almost been developed from the ground up and it was only just recently that I really got a chance to test it comprehensively and safe to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the spritely character of the youngest Trident.

Although the Trident 660 is built in Thailand, but its superb built quality and minimalistic form allow it to remain true to Triumph’s heritage. Triumph has done a great job at blending retro styling with contemporary needs making the Trident looks well-balanced & refreshing. Part of the reason behind the refreshing looks can be contributed to its street-racer & naked style which, as we all know, is a category where Triumph really excels. The round LED headlight & a rather brief but cute rear end adds to the overall character & styling of the motorbike which I am sure you’ll also appreciate once you’ve got a glance at it up-close.

Let’s move on to the most important feature of the Trident 660, which, of course, is its powerplant. Unlike the majority of 600cc motorbikes available out there, the “baby” Triumph packs a 3-cylinder engine which, despite having one less cylinder churns out enough punch to make your day-to-day rides a fun experience. The sweet roar of the engine is also quite distinct and helps the British bike boast its unique identity. The power output is rated at 80 hp with 64 Nm of torque, both of which are readily available at mid to higher RPMs, which helps you explore the realms of the bike at a relatively early stage. The robust engine happily takes abuse while the six-speed gearbox effortlessly blends all the gears, leaving no stones unturned for you.

Worthy to mention here is the fact that the Trident 660 weighs in at 190 kgs, which when combined with its 80 hp might feel a bit underwhelming in elevated areas or a racetrack, but I certainly didn’t feel that the bike would be better off with some additional horses or pulling power during my test rides in the extremely sunny Sussex countryside.

The Trident 660 is reasonably packed with electronic & mechanical aides that continuously assist in making the ride more enjoyable & seamless. Such aides include ride-by-wire throttle, non-switchable anti-lock brakes, two riding modes, switchable traction control & an optional quick shifter & autoblipper. The quick shifter works really well, the two riding modes – road & rain, are a blessing, especially in Britain’s unpredictable weather.

The Triumph Trident 660 sits on a tubular steel frame and its ride is assisted at the front by Showa folks and at the rear by Showa’s pre-load adjustable mono-shock. The non-adjustable & a bit harsh folks at the front are a slight bummer, but they surely did wonders when it comes to handling or slight lean angles. This is where the Michelin tyres also come into play, they provided ample grip on dry & wet surfaces. The chassis, developed from the ground up, has enough flexibility to let you go hooligan if you are in the mood to go wild.

Another feature that stands out is the ergonomics which is well set up. The round digital instrument cluster honors the tradition of retro Triumphs, albeit in a contemporary way and all of its controls are nicely laid out on the left handlebar, whilst the settings too are quite intuitive. The riding posture is slightly similar to sports motorbikes but is far from being uncomfortable. The seat, placed at a height of 805 mm(31.7 inches), is welcoming for all age groups, being 5’8″ (but with short legs I’ve been told) meant I was able to get both feet down when at the lights or junctions. The comfort level of the seat is at par or better than the competitors and the pillion seat is wide & comfy enough for someone wanting to take a short trip on it but would suggest the pillion grip accessory that you can purchase as an extra.

Whilst riding on motorway due to the nakedness of the bike (which I loved the looks) I was buffeted around a fair bit especially living by the seaside you get extra wind off sea. That said Triumph do supply as an extra accessory a moulded fly screen which they say is designed to reduce wind fatigue.

Overall, the Trident 660 is a great motorbike for newbies & pros alike. Triumph’s impeccable build quality is there, the overall design falls nothing short of refreshing. You will walk away from the bike with a smile on your face. At from £7,395.00, Triumph’s latest package not only proves its worth but also offers a lot to those who want a quality British two-wheeler. I had the Sapphire black for this test which had the looks but I do particularly like the union jack detail on the grey model Matt Jet Black and Silver ICE and also features on the Silver Ice Diablo Red but these are £100 more from £7,495.00 (prices from official website)

Joining our class leading and globally renowned motorcycle range this all new competition MX and Enduro family will bring all of Triumph’s engineering expertise to riders and racers worldwide.

This will be accompanied by a landmark moment for Triumph and the MX and Enduro racing world with an all new Triumph factory race programme, and a commitment to top tier championship racing in both Motocross and Enduro series.

Coming hand-in-hand with this commitment, to race and win at the highest level in the sport, Triumph is proud to announce that global Motocross legend Ricky Carmichael and five-times Enduro World Champion Iván Cervantes have joined the Triumph family as active partners in both bike testing and preparation for racing.

An announcement of the timetable for the launch and reveal of the motorcycles, as well as the racing programme and the full story on the product advantages the new Triumph MX and Enduro offer, will follow in the coming months.

Nick Bloor: CEO Triumph Motorcycles Ltd:
Today’s announcement marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Triumph brand,
which everyone at Triumph is incredibly excited to be part of. We are 100% committed
to making a long-lasting impact in this highly competitive and demanding world, with a single-minded ambition to deliver a winning motorcycle line-up for a whole new
generation of Triumph riders”

Ricky Carmichael:
I am thrilled to announce that I am joining the Triumph family and even more excited to be a part of their new endeavour into the off-road product category.

This is an incredible opportunity for me to join this historic brand, and I am honoured and humbled to be a part of the development and release of their off-road motorcycles. Building something from the ground up is something that really is intriguing to me at this stage of my career. What is impressive to me is Triumph’s dedication, and passion to develop a top of the class product. Everyone that I have been involved with in this project from the engineers, design groups, R&D dept., etc., have shown extreme passion for what they are doing and that is a recipe for success and something that I love being a part of.
We all share that same passion, and that’s to be the best.

If you are familiar with the Triumph brand, you already know the quality of craftsmanship is top shelf, and the off-road models will follow suit to their past!

Not only are these exciting times for me, but it’s an exciting time for the off-road industry to be adding another brand to the mix and the opportunities that lie ahead for all off-road consumers.  I can’t wait to see the reactions when these models hit the dealer’s showroom floors.

Ivan Cervantes:
I have loved Triumph motorcycles right from being a small kid, seeing them in films and on television. So to be working with Triumph from the beginning of this project, is an amazing opportunity for me, not just because it is working with one of the world’s greatest motorcycle brands, but also for being part of building something from zero.  It is a dream come true for any racer!

Like me, everyone I am working with at Triumph is focused to make the bikes the best they can be.  I cannot wait to see the bikes competing at a world level, but I also look forward to when I can stand in a Triumph dealer and know I was part of this very special project.

Launched in 2018, the Speed Twin set the benchmark for how a Modern Classic performance roadster should ride and feel thanks to its class-leading handling, thrilling and responsive engine, advanced rider technology and beautiful, modern custom style with category-defining premium finish and detailing.

An award-winning motorcycle, the Speed Twin has been a great success and a customer favourite. Recognised for having the power and torque of the Thruxton R in an even more accessible set up, the Speed Twin delivered the contemporary custom style and engaged ride of the Street Twin, with even more premium and beautiful details and touches.

And now for 2021, the Speed Twin brings an evolution in every dimension, from power and performance, to handling, technology and style – making it the perfect combination of character, style and genuine sport performance.

Higher Performance
Significantly updated for 2021, the Speed Twin’s characterful 1200cc High Power Bonneville twin engine now has even higher performance, as well as lower emissions, making it fully Euro 5 compliant. The engine now delivers 3PS more peak power with 100PS at 7,250rpm, plus more power in the mid-range than the previous generation.

Alongside the incredibly strong and linear power delivery, the 2021 Speed Twin also has a fuller torque curve, with peak torque of 112Nm arriving more than 500rpm lower down the rev range compared to the previous generation.

The responsiveness of the Speed Twin engine has also been enhanced, thanks to a 17% reduction in inertia obtained via a new lightweight crankshaft and alternator. These enable the engine to spin up faster than the previous generation, and rev harder for longer, with a red line now 500rpm higher than before. In addition, new high compression pistons, revised ports and a new cam profile complete the list of performance enhancements.

The distinctive sound of the Bonneville Twin is amplified by the new brushed stainless steel megaphone twin upswept sports silencers, that have been carefully crafted for a deep, throaty roar to match the Speed Twin’s legendary name. The innovative and uninterrupted exhaust header run cleverly conceals the catalyst box, delivering the characteristic clean-line “straight-run” design.

As with all of the models in Triumph’s Modern Classic range, the cost of ownership is kept low thanks to the high first major service interval of 10,000 miles / 16,000 kilometres.

Better Handling
Already acknowledged for its superb, sure-footed comfortable handling, the new generation Speed Twin benefits from a number of significant upgrades for an even more precise, agile and dynamic ride.

New for 2021, the Speed Twin comes equipped with higher specification upside down 43mm Marzocchi front forks with cartridge damping, bringing a more confidence-inspiring and comfortable ride with 120mm wheel travel. These are perfectly matched to the twin rear suspension units with adjustable spring preload, and 120mm rear wheel travel, both precisely tuned for even better handling and the perfect modern roadster ride.

Further enhancing the new generation Speed Twin, braking performance is improved with new higher specification Brembo 4-piston M50 radial monobloc front brake calipers and twin 320mm Brembo discs. Alongside the Nissin 2-piston floating rear caliper with 220mm disc, and ABS fitted as standard, these deliver a stronger initial braking-bite, more feel and better fade characteristics.

Ensuring incredible grip, precision and high-speed stability, new Metzeler Racetec RR tyres are fitted as standard for the 2021 model, along with new cast aluminium wheels, 17” on both front and rear, with a lightweight 12-spoke design.

A beautifully balanced motorcycle, the Speed Twin brings an intuitive and confidence-inspiring ride. The ergonomics are perfectly proportioned with an accessible 809mm seat height, a slim stand over width, tapered handlebars and a comfortable roadster foot-peg position, which are 38mm further forward and 4mm lower than the Thruxton, providing the rider with a more relaxed riding position.

Enhanced Technology
The new generation Speed Twin is packed with rider-focused technology, including a sophisticated ride-by-wire system that ensures precise throttle control and enables three riding modes: Rain, Road and Sport. These have been enhanced for 2021, adjusting both the throttle response and traction control settings to suit the rider’s preference. The riding modes can be changed at the touch of a button while on the move, to respond to any change in riding conditions, maximising rider confidence and safety. The rider can also choose to switch the traction control off independently through the instrument menu.

The bike is also equipped with an LED rear light and indicators, and, where market legislation permits, the signature LED Daytime Running Light (DRL) is incorporated into
the headlight.

The contemporary 3D clocks incorporate a digital menu system accessed by the scroll button mounted on the handlebar. This provides the rider will all of the key information, including gear position, two trip settings, fuel level and range-to-empty, as well an average and current fuel consumption, access to traction control settings and TPMS indicator if fitted as an accessory.

Other rider focused technology includes an under-seat USB charging socket, an accessory Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and an immobiliser with transponder integrated into the premium Triumph branded key.

More Premium Style and Detailing
Incorporating Triumph’s timeless DNA with a contemporary stripped-back custom style
and poise, the new 2021 Speed Twin is even more beautiful and now comes with even
more stylish details.

In addition to the new 12 spoke cast wheels and twin upswept sporty silencers with brushed stainless-steel headers, the Speed Twin is characterised by its signature-shaped 14.5L tank with knee indents, beautiful bar end mirrors, sculpted side panels and stylish bench seat.

Premium details and finishes are harmonised across the bike, including brushed aluminium front and rear mudguards with new mounts, plus brushed aluminium side panel finishers and heel guards. Additional premium touches and details can be found in the new anodised headlamp mounts to compliment the painted headlamp bowl, classic Monza fuel cap and clear anodised aluminium swingarm.

For 2021, the Speed Twin is available in three paint schemes: the new vibrant and lustrous Red Hopper scheme, the sophisticated Matt Storm Grey with subtle yellow accents, or the timeless Jet Black.

The Genesis of a Motorcycle Icon
Changing the face of motorcycling, the original 1938 Triumph Speed Twin, with the world’s first successful parallel twin engine packaged into a game changing chassis, was a revelation to ride. Its smooth dynamic handling and superb responsive feel established Triumph as the number one motorcycle marque globally for performance and handling, setting the template for all that followed, and earning a global reputation for being the first real ‘riders’ bike’.

For 2021, the new Speed Twin sets the benchmark all over again for its balance of torque-rich performance, agile and dynamic handling, and stunning contemporary custom motorcycle design and character.

50+ Custom Accessories
The 2021 Speed Twin is the perfect platform for personalisation with over 50 custom accessories that riders can add to enhance the style, practicality and security of their bike. These range from multi-function LED indicators, to quilted seats and luggage, knee pads, engine embellishers, head bolt covers, sump plates, heated grips and many more.

All genuine Triumph accessories have been designed and developed alongside the bike itself, to the same exacting standards, to ensure perfect integration and excellent durability, and all come with the same two-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Triumph Motorcycles Factory Visitor Experience Reopens With New Landspeed Exhibition

Triumph Motorcycles Factory Visitor Experience reopens with new landspeed exhibition, free entry announcements and a star-studded weekend.

On Thursday 20th May the Triumph Motorcycles Factory Visitor Experience welcomed back customers, hosted Dynavolt Triumph’s factory rider Kyle Smith and launched a sizeable new Land Speed Exhibition. The Factory Visitor Experience also supported The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride and entertained guests with an impressive start up and ride of two immaculately restored 1962 race featured Thruxton Bonneville’s on the weekend following the reopening.

An impressive brand-new Land Speed Exhibition is now on display and showcases the Triumph Infor Land Speed Rocket Streamliner, which was built to challenge the Motorcycle Land Speed Record with Guy Martin in the hot seat, back in 2016 at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Publicly revealed for the first time ever, this Land Speed motorcycle is powered by two turbocharged 1,485cc inline triple engines, sourced from the world leading Triumph Rocket III, and can deliver more than 1,000 horsepower (750 kW). Visitors can now get up close to view this truly iconic, performance-based legend at the Hinckley Headquarters.

Kyle Smith, newly appointed rider for the Dynavolt Triumph team, that will compete in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship, also attended the re-opening celebrations and spent time browsing the Exhibition alongside customers and colleagues from Triumph Motorcycles.

The festivities continued into the weekend, with the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience being the meeting point for the Leicester leg of The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride on Sunday 23rd May. Around 60 classic motorcycles, and their dapper-styled riders, rode to raise funds for cutting-edge research into prostate cancer, mental health and suicide prevention programs. The Factory Visitor Experience also specially displayed the stunning one-off custom Thruxton 1200 RS which is to be the prize for the Gentlefolk Competition.

For the occasion the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience also hosted former Triumph Works Rider, multiple race winner and former TT rider John Cooper. To commemorate his achievements John Cooper has his very own celebratory plaque marking the way in the ‘Avenue of Legends’ on the lead up to the Factory Visitor Experience.

Specially restored and ridden for the event, two 1962 Thruxton Bonneville’s, both of which were raced at the 1962 Thruxton 500 Mile Production Race by John Cooper himself and friend Percy Tait, were started up and ridden down The Avenue of Legends in front of the dapper ladies and gentlemen. This was a shared moment in history, as it was the first time John Cooper had seen and ridden this race-tuned classic motorcycle since he last rode it in 1962 at Thruxton Circuit.

John Cooper said, ‘This is great fun. It’s a lovely atmosphere and just fantastic to see so many men and women out riding for a good cause. It’s been a pleasure to be a part of it all.’

John Slatcher, organiser of The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride Leicester said, ‘We’ve managed to raise over £10,000 for Men’s Health which is much more than we expected! The support has been overwhelming and we’re already looking forward to next year!’

This fuel-filled weekend coincided with the welcomed announcement that the Exhibition, 1902 Café and Factory Shop will continue to offer free entry tickets, with pre-booking advised to guarantee access while government guidance on social distancing is still in place.

Dynavolt Triumph Street Triple 765 RS 2021 Supersport Challenger Revealed

The unveiling of the new Triumph Street Triple 765 RS for the 2021 Quattro Group British Supersport season marks an important step in Triumph’s future racing ambitions. In partnership with PTR, racing as Dynavolt Triumph, the aim is to demonstrate the performance credentials of the 765 triple engine and Street Triple RS chassis in the most demanding environment of top-level competition.

Dynavolt Triumph, managed by Simon Buckmaster’s PTR team, is the ideal partnership for Triumph, with proven capability in Supersport race preparation, trackside operations and the ability to co-ordinate with Triumph’s in-house engineering department.

Former WSS British rider Kyle Smith and former British MotoStar champion, Brandon Paasch are the two factory riders who will wear the Dynavolt Triumph team colours in this historical return to official racing for Triumph Motorcycles.

Brandon Paasch

The basis of the Dynavolt Triumph 765 is the Street Triple RS, a bike that has had significant global sales success and which is appreciated for it’s class leading handling and exhilarating, torque rich engine. Following discussion with MSVR and Dorna WorldSBK Organisation (DWO), Triumph are committed to helping establish a new Supersport formula allowing a wider range of engine formats to compete on level terms, thereby offering great potential for exciting racing which can feedback into the development of bikes that people can see in their local showroom.

Steve Sargent, Triumph’s Chief Product Officer explained:We were offered the opportunity of testing the formula for expanding the Championship and see this year very much as a year for a proving ground for us to make sure we have a competitive bike. The ambition is to go beyond this and next year go into World Supersport, part of a longer term racing strategy and this is a key part in terms of developing a more road based racing class; so building something that you can actually go into the showroom, buy and ride and then convert into a race bike. I think, for a manufacturer like Triumph, that’s quite important.” Steve Sargent, about the competitiveness of the Street Triple RS, also added “We wouldn’t go into this project if we didn’t think that this is a bike that could genuinely compete. The Street Triple is a naked sports bike but it’s derived from the Daytona so we think, in terms of geometry, this is a really good starting point for a race bike. I think, as a starting package, you’ve got a chassis that really works and engine wise, we’ve got the 765 Triple. It’s an engine that we’ve been using in Moto2 for the last couple of seasons and I think the response we have had and the performance we’ve had will tell you that the engine, as a package, is something that is going to compete. Combining the two things together, the engine and the chassis, I think we’ve got a really good starting point”.

Regarding the expectation for the 2021 season, Steve concluded “Myself and Simon (Buckmaster) have talked about expectations and obviously neither of us are in this to do anything other than be at the sharp end. I know Simon is very much focused that way and I believe that we have a package that can deliver that; I believe that we have two riders who can deliver that and from the Triumph side, we want to demonstrate what a Triumph can do on the racetrack

Simon Buckmaster, Dynavolt Triumph’s Team Principal also commentedI have to say, on behalf of PTR and Dynavolt and Triumph, I am really very proud of this machine and I really cannot wait to get started. I feel confident and slightly nervous; it’s a brand new project but we have to aim at challenging to win. That has to be our goal for the season.”

Brandon Paasch, Dynavolt Triumph Factory Rider #96:Visiting the Triumph factory was an awesome experience, it’s amazing to see how much time and effort they put into every detail. That’s something that gives a rider an extra bit of confidence. It was also great to finally get to meet up and chat with the team and see the Dynavolt Triumph race bike! I’ve been thinking of this moment for months now, so to finally see everything coming together was so exciting! I’m fully focused on getting testing here pretty soon, and I can’t thank Triumph enough for all the hospitality and support! I hope everyone else is as excited about this opportunity as I am!

Kyle Smith, Dynavolt Triumph Factory Rider #11:I am keen to get started in what will be a new challenge for me in a new championship with a new bike.  When I got the call from Simon it was a no-brainer.   I can’t wait to start testing at Silverstone to get our base set-up.  I have no doubt the new Triumph will be a good bike and having worked with the PTR crew in the past, I am confident we can be competitive

The Dynavolt Triumph Street Triple 765 RS is scheduled to make its debut on track during the first official BSB Test, at Silverstone, 28 April 2021.

An unparalleled Triumph Scrambler heritage
Launched in 2017, the Street Scrambler’s incredible bloodline has an unparalleled history that began in the early 1960’s. The original Bonneville was credited with being a race winner straight out of the crate, and the bike of choice for dirt and desert racers to strip and modify, giving rise to the first dedicated scrambler factory specials including the Bonneville T-120TT. Stripped back, lighter and more powerful, this was the bike that ignited the Scrambler scene.

Reintroduced to the Triumph line up in 2006, the Scrambler very quickly became the genesis of a whole new sub-category. In 2017, the Street Scrambler added a unique contemporary style, conquering the hearts of many riders, journalists and bloggers thanks to its fun and accessible urban scrambler character.

Updated Euro 5 High Torque Bonneville engine

The new 2021 Street Scrambler is powered by the 900cc high-torque Bonneville twin cylinder engine, now updated to be fully compliant with the latest Euro 5 regulations. The liquid-cooled powerplant retains all of its 65PS peak power, distinctive Scrambler character and incredible responsiveness and now delivers lower emissions, exceeding Euro 5 requirements, and with superb fuel efficiency. It also delivers incredible torque from low down, right through the rev range for strong responsiveness and acceleration, with 80Nm peak torque at a low 3,250rpm. The unmistakeable sound of the iconic British twin comes courtesy of the Street Scrambler’s signature high-level twin exhaust system with brushed stainless-steel silencers, giving a unique exhaust note that matches its distinctive character.

A high first major service interval of 10,000 miles (16,000km) ensures a low cost of ownership, while the dealer-fit accessory A2 kit makes the Street Scrambler more easily accessible to all riders. The A2 licence kit includes and APS twist grip and A2-specific engine tune, which can easily be reversed by the dealer once the owner has achieved their full licence.

More premium custom style and detailing

The new 2021 Street Scrambler delivers the unmistakeable scrambler style and silhouette, born from the original Triumph Scramblers which started the entire desert racing scene in the 1960s. Maintaining that authentic character and timeless DNA, the Street Scrambler features distinctive wide-spaced forks, high level twin exhaust, minimal bodywork, wide handlebars and wire spoked wheels with black hubs and rims.

For the new 2021 generation, additional premium touches and details have been added including the new aluminium number board with embossed Street Scrambler logo, incorporated into the new side panel. The throttle body finishers, heel guards and headlight brackets, all of which feature a brushed aluminium finish, are also new for this latest generation of the Street Scrambler, as well as the new leather and textile inspired seat covering.

Additional Scrambler-defining details include the high grip ‘bear trap’ adventure style foot pegs, the elegantly shaped tank with lockable cap and the minimal front mudguard. As with all the bikes in Triumph’s Modern Classic family, the Street Scrambler’s black coated engine features the signature-shaped Bonneville engine covers with their Triumph makers-mark badge, complimented by a finned head and header clamps.

The 2021 Street Scrambler is available in 3 premium paint schemes: the classic Jet Black, a new contemporary Urban Grey or the new twin colour Matt Khaki and Matt Ironstone scheme, featuring distinctive new tank graphics.

Premium specification & equipment for enhanced rideability

The Street Scrambler’s dedicated chassis set-up delivers its commanding riding position with unique frame, wide aluminium handlebars and mid-position foot pegs – a combination that inspires confidence and gives great visibility in traffic. Excellent stopping power, with great bite and feel, is provided by the high specification Brembo 4-piston front brake caliper.

With 120mm of front and rear wheel travel, the high specification 41mm cartridge forks and preload adjustable twin shocks enable the rider to feel confident and comfortable on longer journeys, or when tackling light off-road surfaces. The long-travel forks are finished with traditional rubber gaiters while the rear suspension features grey springs and black shrouds, adding to the bike’s iconic Scrambler style.

The Street Scrambler’s 19” front and 17” rear blacked-out wire-spoked wheels are equipped with dual purpose Metzeler Tourance tyres for great grip, durability and precise handling in all conditions. The low 790mm seat height adds to the confident feel and is complimented by a narrow stand-over width, enabling riders to comfortably reach the ground when stationary, making this model extremely accessible, easy to manoeuvre and fun for every type of rider.

Advanced rider-focused technology

The new 2021 Street Scrambler maintains all of its high level of advanced rider-focused technology, ensuring the best riding experience while maximising safety and control. Switchable ABS and switchable traction control are fitted as standard, optimising torque delivery when traction is compromised. Three riding modes (Rain, Road and Off-Road), enabled via the ride-by-wire technology, which adjust the throttle map and traction control settings to suit riding conditions or rider preference, ensuring optimum performance in wet or dry conditions. The Off-Road mode turns the ABS and traction control off, enabling the rider to have complete control over the rear wheel when on loose surfaces.

A torque-assist clutch for light and easy operation is also fitted as standard, which represents a particular advantage when riding in heavy traffic or when enjoying light off-road riding, making the bike easier to rider for longer. The clocks feature an analogue speedometer and a digital menu system, which is easily accessed via intuitive handlebar mounted buttons. The under-seat USB charger, key-fob-incorporated immobiliser and the compact, power-efficient and elegant LED rear light complete the high specification technology package.

Built to personalise with 120 genuine Triumph accessories

As with all Triumph Modern Classics, the new 2021 Street Scrambler is built to personalise, with a huge range of 120 genuine Triumph accessories for additional protection, comfort, off-road style, enhanced capability and security. These include a range of rugged and durable luggage options, plus accessories for greater everyday usability, like heated grips, centre stand, short and tall screens, adjustable levers and engine protectors. Accessories for additional off-road focus include the high-level front mudguard, headlight grille, stainless steel sump guard, and adjustable piggyback Fox rear shocks, while the traditional Scrambler style bench seat and machined handlebar clamp add even more premium custom style.

All genuine Triumph accessories have been designed and engineered alongside the bike for perfect integration and are tested to the same exacting quality standards. They all come with a two-year unlimited mileage warranty.

Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC

First launched in 2018, the Triumph Scrambler 1200 has rapidly become a modern Triumph icon, setting a new benchmark in its category thanks to its class-leading riding capabilities both on-road and off-road, its state-of-the-art technology, outstanding specifications and extensive customisation options.

Born from an unparalleled Triumph Scrambler bloodline, including the world’s first production scramblers, raced for fun and glory by legendary racers such as Bud Ekins and Steve McQueen, the new generation has featured in multiple extreme off-road competitions, including the Mexican 1000 and the Spanish Bassella race, repeatedly demonstrating their class leading capability.

A major highlight in the success of the new generation came with it featured in the 25th James Bond movie, No Time To Die, where it received high praise from Lee Morrison, James Bond Stunt Coordinator, who said “the whole stunt team realised very quickly that these were amazing bikes”.

ALL OF THE SCRAMBLER 1200’S CLASS LEADING CAPABILITY.
The 2021 Scrambler 1200 XE and XC represent the latest generation of one of the most capable and unique motorcycles on the market, and one of Triumph’s highest specification models ever. A genuine, class-defining cross over of two motorcycle worlds, with the iconic style and character of a Triumph Modern Classic, combined with the capability and specification of a full-on adventure motorcycle.

ENHANCED FOR 2021
Updated for 2021 along with all of Triumph’s iconic modern classic line-up, the new Scrambler 1200 XC and XE features a Euro 5 engine evolution that maintains all of the Scrambler’s renowned power and torque delivery and delivers lower emissions. Additionally, the new generation update brings a revised exhaust system that delivers improved heat distribution.

FULL SPECIFICATIONS

Thrilling Performance
The Scrambler 1200 is powered by the latest evolution of Triumph’s characterful 1200cc high-power British twin. New for 2021, the engine update delivers lower emissions, exceeding Euro 5 requirements. With a low inertia crank and a high compression cylinder head, plus a dedicated Scrambler tune, specifically developed to give the perfect balance of power and torque delivery for both road and off-road riding, the result is incredible torque from low down right through the rev range.

Peak torque hits 110Nm at just 4,500rpm, while peak power of 90PS arrives at 7,250 rpm. The distinctive Scrambler sound, produced by the 1200cc 8-valve parallel twin engine, is delivered by the twin high level exhaust system which has also been updated for Euro 5 compliance, with the added benefit of improved heat distribution.

Category-Dominating Specification and Capability
The 2021 Scrambler 1200 offers all of the category-dominating level of specification and equipment that gives these motorcycles such unique cross-over Classic and Adventure capability.

The class-leading long travel suspension delivers incredible off-road capability and ground clearance, with 250mm wheel travel front and rear, designed for riding across the toughest of terrains, as well as a supremely comfortable road riding experience. Both the Öhlins twin spring rear shocks and high specification upside down Showa front forks are fully adjustable for preload, compression and rebound damping, providing excellent comfort and control across a wide range of surfaces: from city streets right through to rocky off-road tracks.

Superior stopping-power is guaranteed by the category-leading Brembo M50 radial monobloc calipers, with twin 320mm floating discs on the front, and the Brembo caliper with single disc, on the back.  Such outstanding braking power is managed by the ABS that comes as standard on both models.

Enhancing the multi-purpose character of the Scrambler 1200, high specification wire spoked wheels with aluminium rims and a side-laced design, come as standard, allowing the use of tubeless tyres. Dual purpose adventure-focused Metzeler Tourance tyres are the standard fit, while for more extreme off-road use, Pirelli Scorpion Rally are recommended as an approved alternative option.

The 21” front wheel contributes to the Scrambler 1200’s incredible off-road capability and commanding riding position, and gives great visibility ahead, both when commuting and off road. This, combined with the wide adjustable handlebar position and the adjustable folding foot controls on the XE model, give the Scrambler 1200 its commanding poise and stance.

Class-Leading Technology
Packed with the state-of-the art technology and rider aids, the new Scrambler 1200 XC and XE really set the benchmark. Both models feature the full-colour TFT instruments offering two different design themes, each with three display layout options, allowing the rider to alter the amount of information shown, according to their preferences. The TFT start-up sequence can also be personalised with the rider’s name. The multi-functional TFT display is controlled via the intuitive and easily accessible handlebar mounted 5-way joystick and other switches, all of which are backlit for easy navigation in the dark. High and low contrast displays ensure the TFTs are readable in all lighting conditions, while the adjustable screen angle suits every rider’s height thanks to the possibility of adjusting it.

The new Scrambler 1200 is also pre-enabled for the accessory-fit My Triumph connectivity system. This allows the rider to access phone calls, operate music, use turn-by-turn navigation and manage a Go-Pro through an intuitive handlebar controls and TFT interface.

Triumph’s latest generation ride-by-wire ensures responsive and precise throttle control at all times, and enables the 6 riding modes – Road, Rain, Sport, Off-Road, Off-Road Pro (available on the XE only) and Rider-Configurable. The riding modes, which can be selected while on the move (with the exception of the Off-Road and Off-Road Pro modes) adjust throttle response, traction control and ABS settings for enhanced safety and optimum performance in all riding conditions.

The Scrambler 1200 XE also features optimised-cornering ABS and optimised-cornering traction control both of which automatically adapt the level of intervention to maintain the optimum ride, at any lean angle. These features are managed by the Inertial Measurement Unit which measures the roll, pitch, yaw and acceleration rates of the bike in order to calculate the lean angle and optimise braking and traction control accordingly, ensuring greater rider stability.

Benefitting from lower energy consumption, increased durability and greater visibility, the Scrambler 1200 mounts LED lights front and rear, and LED indicators (market specific). The headlight incorporates LED daytime running lights, which deliver better visibility and a distinctive front-end style (market specific).

Additional high specification rider-focused technology, standard on both of the 2021 Scrambler 1200 models, includes torque-assist clutch, cruise control, keyless ignition, under-seat USB charging socket and the internal wiring ready to plug in the accessory fit heated grips, which  have 3 modes and are accessed through a really intuitive button built into the left grip.

Modern Custom Style with Category-Leading Finish and Detailing
Combining Triumph’s original Scrambler DNA, with beautifully crafted modern custom style, these bikes deliver all the hallmarks of a genuine scrambler. From the iconic silhouette with its high level twin exhaust, to the commanding height and poise, the new 2021 Scrambler 1200 XC and XE have true scrambler-defining style.

Just like every Bonneville, the engine presents the distinctive machined engine fins and black engine covers with its classic maker’s-mark triangular Triumph engine badge. These models also have a category-leading standard of finish and detailing, with authentic features such as the seamless sculpted 16 litre fuel tank, with brushed aluminium Monza fuel cap and brushed stainless strap. The custom-looking bench seat with stitched ribbing and Triumph branding completes the striking silhouette while delivering the optimal riding position and comfort when tackling any type of ride.

To complete the unmistakable scrambler style, the Scrambler 1200 features minimal aluminium mudguards, sculpted side panel with brushed aluminium Scrambler 1200 badge, aluminium bash plate and wide-set handlebars. And, the Scrambler 1200 XE gets even more, with hand guards, Brembo MCS lever, gold forks and the crafted aluminium long travel swingarm, which is longer on the XE, with a high specification shot blasted and anodised finish.

The new 2021 Scrambler 1200 XC and XE are available in three colours: Cobalt Blue with a Jet Black stripe, Matt Khaki Green with a Jet Black stripe or the single tone Sapphire Black option.

70+ Genuine Triumph Accessories
The Scrambler 1200 XC and XE have a range of over 70 genuine Triumph accessories. These have all been designed and tested alongside the bike to the same exacting standards, and allow the rider to personalise their bike with enhanced style and practicality, increased comfort, luggage, protection and security.

The comprehensive list of accessories ranges from a new Dakar-inspired fly screen to the durable and practical rugged pannier and tank bag, all adding greater touring capability. There is also a high-level front mudguard, handlebar brace and headlight grille, plus practical options including a centre stand, fog lights and heated grips. To top the extensive range of accessories, a wide choice of locks are available, as well as an alarm.

Fully equipped with a selection of premium Scrambler accessories, fitted as standard, the McQueen Edition is now officially the highest specification Scrambler 1200 ever.

Inspired by a genuine motorcycle legend
Inspired by the original competition-spec Triumph TR6, made famous by the legendary barbed wire jump in the iconic 1963 Second World War classic “The Great Escape”, the Scrambler 1200 Steve McQueen Edition has been developed in partnership with the McQueen family. Chosen to ride in the film by McQueen, over of a period-correct German military motorcycle, the Triumph TR6 used in the jump was created by a British Triumph dealer and ISDT Gold Medal racer Ken Heanes, with an ISDT suspension set-up designed for robust stunt work.

Unique limited edition
With just 1,000 Scrambler 1200 Steve McQueen Edition models available worldwide, each bike is individually numbered on the beautiful billet-machined handlebar clamp, which also features a laser etched Steve McQueen signature. Exclusive details and finish
The unique paint scheme features a Competition Green tank with brushed foil knee pads, exquisite hand-painted gold lining, gold heritage Triumph logos, dedicated Steve McQueen tank graphic, brushed aluminium Monza cap and brushed stainless steel tank strap. The distinctive Steve McQueen Edition will also feature the aluminium high level front mudguard as standard, which, along with the rear mudguard, will also be painted in Competition Green.

In addition to the standard 1200 XE’s class leading specification, the Steve McQueen Edition comes fitted with engine protection dresser bars, which add another layer of ruggedness. Fabricated from stainless steel tubing, these have an electro-polished finish and offer additional protection to the clutch and alternator covers.

A laser cut and pressed aluminium radiator guard, with laser etched Triumph branding, also comes as standard, giving additional protection from loose stones whilst optimising air flow.

The Steve McQueen Edition also features a premium brown bench seat, with stitched ribbing and Triumph branding, which further enhances the overall classic style and elegance.

Aside from movie stardom, Steve McQueen was also renowned for his Triumph Scrambler desert racing, which makes the Scrambler 1200 XE the perfect base for the exclusive edition, thanks to its class-defining capability both on and off-road. The new McQueen Edition shares all of the acclaimed XE specification and performance, including the 2021 engine and exhaust system updates, making the limited edition fully Euro 5 compliant. Being a genuine cross-over motorcycle, it has all the capability of a full-on adventure bike with the iconic style inherited from its legendary Scrambler lineage.

We look at the handling, brakes, acceleration, ride modes and find out what it is like to ride. Is it stable? Is it good in the corners? Is it big or small? How does it fit different rider sizes and heights? Is it too heavy?

Does it handle like a sports bike or a cruiser. Rake and Trail – we give you the correct info. We tell you the mpg, fuel economy, and range on a full tank.

This beautiful, modern design may not be for everyone, but if you watch our videos, you will at least be able to make an informed decision.

New Triumph Trident In Final Testing

Introducing a new triple-powered dimension to the competitive middleweight roadster world. The Triumph Trident test photography shows the all new model to come in its final stage of testing, in and around Triumphs HQ in Hinckley UK, where the new Trident has been designed and developed.

Following on from the reveal of the Trident design prototype at the London Design Museum in August 2020, the test photography showcase represents the last stage of development prior to the launch of this all new Triumph. Photographed during its final road test phase, near to Triumphs global headquarters and design facility at Hinckley in the UK, the test motorcycle carries Triumph’s test livery scheme and a #TriumphTrident to learn more about this new model.

The images showing the camouflaged Triumph Trident mark the completion of a four-year programme, with an original British design developed at Triumph’s headquarters in Hinckley.

Through the final testing stages the Triumph product team have been fine tuning the characteristics that will make the new Trident the first choice for a new generation of Triumph riders: bringing all the advantages of a Triple to the category, with class-leading technology as standard, and an agile and rider-friendly chassis and ergonomics.

As announced during the press reveal at the London Design Museum, the Trident will be available in Spring 2021, and will be competitively priced to deliver great value to both
expert and new riders.

The date and time of the full reveal of the new Triumph Trident will be announced in the coming weeks.
