Headwear for R nineT from Wunderlich

Wunderlich Cylinder Head Protectors add much-needed cover to the latest generation BMW R nineT family, shielding against the costly and potentially catastrophic effects of impacts, drops and slides.

Made in Germany from hard-anodised aircraft specification aluminium, and tailor-made for the R nineT family, the Protectors form a tough barrier around the  vulnerable cylinder heads, valve and spark plug covers on the Boxer engine.

Multiple mounting points – and flexible 3M rubber bumpers – spread the load of impact evenly and absorb kinetic energy. The protectors also help stop the valve covers from moving and destroying the bolt threads.

Replaceable 16mm-thick pads on each protector add additional shock absorption and help soak up scuffs and scrapes from slides.

Each protector is contoured specially to wrap around the cylinder head, and are designed so they will not protrude and affect ground clearance. Access to the spark plugs isn’t impeded and they can be easily removed for other maintenance.

They fix directly to each cylinder head – no complex fitting kits, special tools or training required – add minimal weight, and are styled to blend in with the R nineT-series’ retro lines. Hard anodised, they are resistant to corrosion for durability.

Wunderlich R nineT Cylinder Head Protectors cost £319- per pair (including VAT and are available exclusively through the UK’s no.1 for BMW motorcycle accessories www.nippynormans.com

They fit all 2021-on (Euro 5) R nineT models – Scrambler, Pure and G/S Urban – and can be used on their own or alongside Wunderlich engine bars [with an additional adaptor kit] for complete protection.

R&G Takes On All-american Approach For 2022

Fresh from announcing it has extended its partnership with MotoAmerica, R&G is continuing its all-American approach for 2022 by partnering with the legendary California Superbike School and popular stunt rider Teach McNeil, supplying a range of its proven crash protection products.
R&G and the California Superbike School have a long and successful partnership together, with the Hampshire-based brand supplying crash protection to both the American and UK arms of the school.
For 2022, that partnership is set to continue, with R&G supplying a full suite of products to the BMWs that the school will be using this year. This includes Aero Crash Protectors, Engine Case Covers and Exhaust Protectors.  This essential crash protection will ensure that the bikes are fully protected should they take a trip through the gravel trap, allowing students and instructors to get back out as soon as possible.
R&G is also extending its partnership with champion freestyle motorcycle athlete and performer Teach McNeil. Having worked with Teach for many years, R&G will once again be protecting his fleet of machines, including the BMW S1000RR, F850GS, G310R and G310GS. Alongside utilising R&G crash protection, Teach will also be sporting R&G Aero Knee Sliders in each of his performances this year.
R&G Managing Director Simon Hughes said, “We’re really excited to be bolstering our presence in North America and continuing our partnerships with the California Superbike School and Teach McNeil. Both have been very loyal supporters of R&G and their marketing and feedback help to boost our ever-strengthening brand presence in North America.”
Dylan Code from the California Superbike School added, “Having R&G crash protection on our fleet gives us peace of mind knowing that any damage would be kept to a minimum for most types of incidents. The extra layer of protection is something we have grown to count on, so our fleet is kept in great condition.”

Longer lines from Venhill

Venhill’s British-made replacement motorcycle cables and hoses are now available to order in longer lengths at the click of a button on the updated venhill.co.uk website.

One of the most common requests Venhill receives is making longer cables or hoses, usually because riders have fitted bar risers or changed handlebars to wider or clip-on designs.

Venhill’s intuitive new online ordering system enables users to add extra length to control cables and hydraulic hoses during the ordering process – just head to the online Part Finder, select the make and model of your motorcycle, add the required additional length (in either millimeters or inches) and Venhill will make the cable or hose.

The site automatically calculates the price as the user edits the listing, so the total is clear before ordering. Customers can also choose the colour of the outer sleeve and the price is displayed ‘live’ as the user edits the listing, so the total is clear before ordering.

The new ‘add additional length’ option is available for all makes and models of motorcycle in the Venhill  catalogue, which is continually growing.

Venhill cables and hoses are made to order in their UK factory, to a much higher specification than factory-fitted items, and are designed to deliver improved performance and durability along with smoother and lighter action.

Venhill Featherlight Cabes feature marine-grade stainless steel inner wire for minimum stretch and a PTFE liner for minimum friction and lighter action, removing the need for regular lubrication.

Powerhouse Plus Hoses have a DuPont® Teflon® core, which is resistant to loss of shape through heat, delivering more efficient fluid flow to the callipers, and increased braking force.

Akrapovic silencers form Performance accessory pack for Suzuki Hayabusa

Suzuki has launched a new Performance accessory pack for its Hayabusa hypersport machine, which comes with an RRP of £2,599, representing a saving of £1,112 over the cost of the individual items.

The standout accessory in the kit is a pair of titanium Akrapovič silencers, which save a total of 4kg and boost power by 2kW, as well as enhancing the soundtrack. Capped with a carbon fibre tip and featuring a carbon fibre heat shield, the silencers are finished with a classy, laser-etched Akrapovič and Hayabusa logos.

Billet aluminium brake and clutch levers replace the original items, with extra style coming from a colour-coded pillion seat cowl, an accessory seat with Hayabusa logo and red stitching, plus a tank pad also adorned with a Hayabusa logo in a choice of gold or red, to suit the bike’s colour.

The Performance accessory pack can be fitted at the time of purchase, meaning it can also be incorporated into any finance deal, spreading the cost monthly, and benefits from the same three-year-warranty.

With an RRP of £16,499, the third generation Hayabusa uses a heavily redesigned engine – including new pistons, conrods, crankshaft, and camshaft – specifically aimed at producing enhanced performance in the lower to mid rev ranges, making it the fastest-launching Hayabusa yet with more cumulative torque than its predecessor.

It gets Suzuki’s most advanced suite of electronics ever, with 10 lean angle-sensitive traction control modes, lean angle-sensitive ABS, three power modes, a bi-directional quickshifter, cruise control and a speed limiter, and three stages of launch control, all controlled via easy-to-use switchgear and managed through a neat colour TFT display, nestled between two analogue dials reminiscent of the original Hayabusa’s clocks.

Design cues from the original also extend to the bodywork, which is sharper and more angular but nonetheless immediately recognisable as Hayabusa.

Skidmarx race kit for Honda NC30

Skidmarx now offer a race fairing, screen and seat unit for the Honda VFR400R NC30.

Manufactured between 1989-1992, the NC30 was the third generation of the VFR400R, featuring the ‘big bang’ engine, and is a popular track bike thanks to its fine handling and wide powerband.

Made in the UK from GRP fibreglass and tailored to fit the NC30 neatly, the front fairing is in two parts – top and sides, with separate belly pan section. Each piece comes ready for assembly, with pre-drilled holes and Dzus Fasteners.

The seat unit is made to fit to the original mounting points on the sub frame and has reinforcements where needed to give the strength and support for the rider. The original seat pad can be retained and used if required.

Matching race screens – in Standard, Double Bubble and Two-Piece TT Tall versions – are available to fit straight onto the fairing. They’re made in 2mm cast acrylic – which is 33% thinner than those for road use – offering a weight saving and giving better optical clarity, when tucked-in behind the screen.

Prices for the full race fairing start at £269.95 including VAT and for the matching seat unit from £134.95. Race screens sell from £54.95.

Touratech parts for the KTM 390 Adventure

High-quality workmanship, available at a favourable price and suitable for the A2 driving licence – the KTM 390 Adventure is the perfect introduction to the world of adventure bikes.

With tailor-made accessories from Touratech, this easy-to-handle machine can be optimally equipped for journeys near and far.

For almost 25 years, adventure bikes from Mattighofen have proven that the model designation “Adventure” is not a marketing gimmick, but an honest commitment. Since the legendary 620, the Austrians have continued to develop their adventure models with great seriousness, and currently offer six models ranging from 390 to 1290 cubic centimetres.

Perfect base for adventurous tours
Even the entry-level model, the KTM 390 Adventure, provides the perfect basis for having fun on adventurous excursions: a feisty engine, solid spring elements and agile handling. If you are planning to ride the small Adventure off-road or on a longer trip, however, this is where Touratech parts come into play – extra-robust, well-engineered and tested over thousands of kilometres of trails.

Wide range of luggage systems
The Touratech range for the KTM 390 Adventure starts with the robust ZEGA aluminium pannier system, which is attached to an indestructible 18×2 steel tube rack. Several pannier sizes and designs are available. For even more storage space, there is the ZEGA Topcase, mounted to make it trail-proof on a rack with a quick-release fastener. Then there are the tank bags from the Ambato series. Depending on space requirements, there are three variants of this proven line to choose from.

Rugged parts for heavy use
When the going gets rough, the extra-rugged stainless steel engine crash bars come into play, offering effective protection in off-road use. Protectors are also available for the headlight as well as the rear ABS sensor. Also highly recommended for off-road riding are the folding foot brake lever and the folding rear view mirrors.
And last but not least, the 25 millimetre handlebar riser demonstrates its strengths on long stretches that demand a standing rider position. The handlebars are more comfortable to hold, and the rider’s position is much more upright. A better line of sight and less fatigue are the rewards of this small modification.
Wherever you plan to go with the KTM 390 Adventure – accessories from Touratech get the most out of this machine’s great potential.

Smart Tool Box for BMW 1250 GS

Wunderlich’s popular Smart Tool Box is now available to fit BMW R1200 and R1250 GS models without pannier frames.

Waterproof, lightweight, tough and lockable, the Smart Tool Box mounts to the GS’ subframe and provides a handy place to stash tools, first aid and other essentials.

It’s made from strong injection moulded plastic, so weighs less than a metal box and is much more robust than a fabric tool roll.

Fully lockable, it comes in two versions: one supplied with its own keys and the other with a ‘codeable’ lock, which allows it to be operated with the bike’s ignition key.

Though compact  – it measures just 325 x 105 x 230 mm – it’s surprisingly spacious, with a 4.5 litre capacity, more than similar boxes on the market.

A handy rear door means contents can be accessed with soft panniers in place – no need to remove them or disturb contents at the side of the road. The lid has a retaining strap so it can’t accidentally be left at the side of the road too.

The Wunderlich Smart Tool Box is priced at £199 for the version with two separate keys, and £219 with the codeable lock (prices include VAT).

It fits the R1200 GS LC (2013–20), R1200 Adventure (2014-20), R1250 GS (2019-on) and R1250 Adventure (2020-on).

It attaches to existing mounting points – no drilling required – via two black powder-coated aluminium mounting plates. Fittings and easy to follow instructions are included.

Wunderlich also offer a Cordura inner bag, tailored to fit the Tool Box perfectly, which sells for £139 including VAT and includes:

  • Motorbike first aid kit

Front Mudguard Extender for BMW F900 XR

A simple add-on that makes a significant difference, Wunderlich’s Xtreme Front Extender for the F900 XR provides double protection for BMW’s popular middleweight adventure sports bike.

The XR’s existing mudguard falls particularly short, leaving both the bike’s engine casing and front brake callipers in the firing line of water, grit, and other road grime thrown up by the wheel.

Made from sturdy thermoplastic and measuring approx 14.9 x 21.6 cm, Wunderlich’s extender adds much needed extra surface area.

The additional length directs potentially damaging detritus away from the F900’s engine; while the specially-shaped flared lip at the bottom edge also helps prevent it being thrown back up at the front callipers – double protection.

Quick and easy to fit, the Xtreme Extender requires no drilling of the XRs original mudguard and comes with all fittings required and full instructions.

It retails at £94 including VAT and is available from the UK’s #1 for BMW motorcycle accessories www.nippynormans.com

Akrapovič Introduces New Exhaust for Yamaha R7

Akrapovič has launched an all-new exhaust for the 2021 Yamaha R7 with the introduction of the Racing Line (Titanium) into the Slovenian company’s product range.

Constructed with a high-grade, lightweight titanium outer sleeve and end-cap for the muffler, allied to a stainless-steel link pipe and headers, this latest product from Akrapovič weighs in at 0.7 kg lighter than the standard stock exhaust. The innovative design is an EC/ECE type-approved complete exhaust system, with a catalytic converter included in the package, allowing the system to comply with the current Euro 5 approvals. This type-approved version adds an increase in performance of 1.5 kW (2.0 hp) at 9,200 rpm, and there is an added +1.1 Nm at 5,000 rpm when tested on the Akrapovič dyno against a standard stock exhaust. A distinctive deep and vivid Akrapovič sound rounds out the package, perfectly tuned to match the bike’s sporting credentials.

Shadowing the look of the Yamaha R6 and R1 Akrapovič exhaust systems, with the same muffler shape but a smaller volume, the Racing Line (Titanium) has been designed to perfectly harmonize with the bike’s lines. The pre-muffler is located under the main body of the bike and is hidden by the fairing, leaving the muffler to exit on the right side of the machine, where an exquisite hand-crafted carbon-fibre heatshield adds to the aesthetic value of the exhaust.

The launch of the Racing Line (Titanium) comes hot on the heels of Toprak Razgatlioğlu of the Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK team winning the 2021 WorldSBK championship on an Akrapovič-equipped Yamaha R1. This new system for the R7 shares a similar design to the version on the WorldSBK–winning machine, and there is also an option to give the bike even more of a racing look with the addition of a muffler bracket in black-coated aluminium for the version of the R7 without the passenger foot-pegs.

Touratech KTM 890 Adventure engine guard

In the design of the KTM 890 Adventure engine guard, Touratech relies on the synthesis of two different concepts: An ultra-rugged, folded skid plate is complemented by hydroformed aluminium lateral protectors.

The KTM 890 Adventure is currently one of the sportiest adventure bikes on the market. A twin that is even more powerful than its predecessor model with adventure-oriented characteristics, low weight, as well as fully adjustable suspension elements with long working travel, form the basis of this well thought-through concept. Especially the “R” model variant of the 890 Adventure is just begging to be ridden in sporty style through demanding terrain. Touratech has developed a high-quality range of protectors to ensure that off-road use does not result in any injuries.

The heart piece is the Rally Evo engine guard. Touratech has adapted this engine guard, which was completely redesigned for the previous model, to the current KTM 890 Adventure. For the first time, a three-part construction, consisting of a base plate and two lateral tank protectors, has been used for this protector, which is as robust as it is stylish.

Clever synthesis of two concepts
The base plate, also called skid plate in off-road sports, is made of a high-strength aluminium alloy. For its production, Touratech relies on folding technology, proven in tens of thousands of engine guards, which gives the workpiece additional strength due to its bend-resistant edges. All welding is done by robots to ensure the highest precision.

The lateral tank protectors, on the other hand, are manufactured using the hydroforming process. This technology, in which the aluminium sheet is formed in a tool, using extreme water pressure, enables a complex three-dimensional design allowing the aluminium parts to fit closely to the tank and at the same time have an attractive appearance.

All-round protection and maximum compatibility
The “Rally Evo” engine guard for the KTM 890 effectively offers 360-degree protection for this two-cylinder. The extra-long skid plate provides full protection from the manifolds at the front of the engine to the catalytic converter. A stainless steel reinforcement in the rear part provides additional lateral support. Even severe impacts on rock edges and heavy stones are parried by the “Rally Evo” without complaint.

The tank protectors, which are pulled far up at the sides, reliably cover not only the fuel tank itself, but also the fuel pump and fuel taps.

The frontal intake opening has been retained for effective engine cooling, but can be covered with optionally available grilles to protect against stone chips if required.

Neither ground clearance nor operability of the foot levers are restricted, thanks to the “Rally Evo’s” close-to-the-vehicle lines, and combination with Touratech crash bars is also possible.

Brühl turns up the heat on bike drying

An essential addition to any workshop in winter, the Brühl MD1900+ Single Turbine Dryer can dry a bike, scooter and even a helmet, in minutes.

Whether you’re riding through the colder, wetter months or storing your bike until spring returns, it’s crucial to keep it dry, otherwise corrosion will set in and electrics and other components could become temperamental or fail altogether.

With a flick of a switch, the Brühl MD1900+ blows warm air, heated with a 500W element, at up to 80 metres-a-second, drying a washed or rain-soaked machine without the hard work of a chamois or cloth.

The blast of air is much more effective at getting moisture out of unreachable areas, like electrical switches, under bodywork and around the engine, suspension and brakes – particularly important if the bike will be stored in a garage or under a cover.

It also reduces unsightly water-spotting and corrosion on paint and brightwork and, since there’s no need to touch the bike, the risk of scratches and damage is also removed. The Brühl filters the air it takes in, so it’s debris-free when it comes out too.

Also ideal for helmets, the Brühl will blow rain out of vents and visor mechanisms, and can dry out the interior, which is important, because perspiration can degrade the protective EPS liner over time.

Developed with motorcyclists in mind, the MD1900+ has a powerful 1600W turbine for fast, efficient drying, toughened build quality and is fitted with a built-in RCD to prevent electric shocks. The flexible hose can be extended from 1.5 to 3.5 meters and enables the user to aim air in just about any direction, without having to move the unit.

Interchangeable nozzle attachments allow either a fast and concentrated blast to target specific areas, or a more general flow for overall drying, and the heater can be switched off during warmer months, when hot air is not required.

The Brühl MD1900+ retails at £135 (Including VAT), is covered by a two-year warranty, with full customer support.from this UK-based brand

NGK attracting a host of stars to its stand at Motorcycle Live

The company has long been synonymous with the two-wheel bike scene both on the road and in the motorcycling racing arena where its spark plugs have helped the world’s leading teams and riders to numerous victories and welcomed some major stars to its stand at Birmingham’s NEC.

The first day of the show saw Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness visit NGK’s stand (3D10) where he signed posters and had his photograph taken with scores of enthusiasts while three-time World Speedway Champion Tai Woffinden and track racer Brayden Elliott also visited the stand, as did Dan Bewley, a member of Britain’s Speedway of Nations winning team, and former British Speedway Champion Charles Wright.

NGK also attracted a number of non-motorsport celebrities including chef James Martin and actor Danny John-Jules who both enjoyed the company’s hospitality.

The NGK stand featured a host of iconic motorcycles including three of McGuinness’s including his 2004 Yamaha R1 which gave him his fourth Isle of Man TT victory, Woffinden’s World title winning bike from 2018, Elliott’s Superstock 1000cc Suzuki, a Speedway bike owned by four-time World Champion Greg Hancock and an old school beach cruiser built by Greg and his son Wilbur.

NGK’s Mr Sparky was also on hand to greet motorcycle enthusiasts at the stand where they had the opportunity to purchase NGK promotional products to help raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Mark Hallam, Marketing Manager, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said: “It has been fantastic to re-engage with motorcycle enthusiasts at the show and also to welcome some legendary racing stars who use our products as well as a number of well-known celebrities. Mr Sparky also proved to be very popular and was inundated with requests by visitors to have their photograph taken with him.

Akrapovič Exhaust System on New MV Agusta F3 RR

Akrapovič presents a new exhaust system as part of its industrial partnership with MV Agusta with the release of the Slip-On Line (Titanium) for the 2021 MV Agusta F3 RR.

The RR is at the pinnacle of MV Agusta’s F3 range, a motorcycle that offers class-leading performance, state-of-the-art aerodynamics, and a superb chassis, making it a unique exponent of the Supersport segment. It is conceived as a technological evolution, making it an extremely complete and performing bike. However, because even the best can be improved, this is where Akrapovič comes in. Many accessories are being offered for the bike, including the Akrapovič Slip-On Line (Titanium) exhaust, a road-approved system that offers a power and torque increase of 2.5 kW (3.4 hp) at 13,000 rpm and 2.5 Nm at 11,900 rpm, plus weights savings of 49.5% when compared to the standard stock exhaust. The optional available Racing Kit, aimed at riders using the F3 RR only on racetracks, contains a non–EC/ECE type-approved version* of the exhaust and a dedicated MV Agusta Racing electronic control unit, boosting the power to 114 kW (155 hp) and reducing the dry weight from 173 kg to 165 kg.

This exhaust, developed by Akrapovič and MV Agusta engineers, is entirely constructed from high-grade, lightweight titanium and finished with a beautiful hand-crafted carbon-fibre end cap. It also features a hand-crafted carbon-fibre heat shield, available in matte or high gloss, depending on the customer’s wishes, making it an exhaust that breathes quality and matches the machine perfectly. The shape of the muffler has been specially crafted to match seamlessly with the RR, giving an extra racing touch to the final look of the RR, and the underbody pre-muffler follows the futuristic lines of the motorcycle and has been designed to optimize the performance despite the limited space available within the bike’s bodywork. This exhaust is the first product of the industrial partnership between the two, and to symbolise this strong bond the exhaust features co-branding, with both the Akrapovič and MV Agusta logos on the muffler.

The three-cylinder engine used on the RR has undergone constant development activity, which has led to significant improvement. The addition of the Slip-On Line (Titanium) increases both the power and torque even further while still satisfying EC/ECE type approval certification and meeting Euro 5 compliance. The sound of the engine is transformed by the exhaust, giving it a deeper, fuller tone, totally befitting the bike’s sporting legacy.

Akrapovič and MV Agusta have joined together on this project as the first in the industrial partnership that the two companies share. They have created a stunning new exhaust system that fits the innovative lines of the bike, improves performance, enhances the sound, and meets applicable road-going approvals, making the Akrapovič Slip-On Line (Titanium) – which can be purchased from MV Agusta dealers – a must-have for all F3 RR owners.

* THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT MEET EMISSION COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR STREET OR HIGHWAY USE.

Touratech Connect Update

The latest version of the Touratech Connect smartphone app offers a veritable plethora of new functions.

Its use as a real-time display is complemented by extensive analysis, export and sharing features. In addition, the application is now available for numerous other motorbike models.

The smartphone has established itself as an indispensable communication centre in the motorcycle cockpit. Touratech Connect, the new combination of app and hardware component transforms your smartphone into a freely configurable real-time display that provides the rider with a wealth of neatly structured data.

Touratech Connect reads the data from the vehicle’s own sensors directly from the CAN bus and transmits it to the smartphone via an easy-to-pair Bluetooth connection.

Fine tuning and new features
With the latest version of Touratech Connect, on the one hand existing functions have been further improved. It is now possible, for example, to not only display the maximum lean angles comprehensively, but to also differentiate between left-hand and right-hand curves. Certainly a useful feature for fine tuning your own riding technique.

On the other hand, the app has received a lot of additional functions. Particularly interesting is the route tracking, which goes far beyond recording the distance travelled. Tracking starts with every activation of the app. The high-resolution track can be visualised on a map and – here comes the highlight – the recorded parameters can be visualised for each point. By linking vehicle and geodata in this way, the performance of bike and rider can be precisely assigned to specific riding situations on the track.

Points along the route can also be accessed via a slider that corresponds to the timeline of the journey. The GPS module of the smartphone is used for tracking, which also records the altitude. This function can be deactivated at any time.

Sharing with the community
Another new feature is the ability to share data. The user selects a specific data type, for example the switching profile on a track, and can share the corresponding graph along with a map representation of the associated track. This is done via either email, Facebook or Instagram. The format of the screenshot can be adjusted depending on the selected social network.

Even more practical relevance
In response to a frequently expressed request from the beta testers, the Touratech programmers have created the deactivatable “Remember PIN” function so that the user no longer has to re-enter their code after every app start.

Another practical new feature is the ability to export all app data. This means that all determined values are also immediately available on a new smartphone as soon as they have been imported.

Numerous other detailed improvements in data collection and presentation, such as the possibility of labelling data fields, round off this huge range of functions.

Last but not least, Touratech Connect is now available for even more motorbike models. This means that the app now works with all BMW boxer models from model year 2015 onwards. Touratech Connect is available for iOS and Android operating systems. Existing customers will simply receive the new functions free of charge via an update.

New Touratech Connect features
• Route tracking incl. GPX export
• Display of the route on continuously zoomable and rotatable map
• Altitude recording
• Visualisation of data in descriptive graphs
• Sharing of tracks and data via email and social media
• “Remember PIN” function
• Extensive import and export functions
• Switchable labelling of the data fields
• Available for numerous motorbike models
