Record Breaking Crowd Flock to Biggest Ever London Motorcycle Show

Three action-packed days of motorcycling have come to a close after a record breaking crowd of 39,811 flocked to London’s ExCeL Centre to celebrate the best of two wheels. With 22 manufacturers, biking celebs, rare exhibits and exclusive offers on gear, the 2017 Show was the biggest yet.

The biggest attraction of the three day Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle Show proved to be the unbelievable amount of new metal, with Aprilia, BMW, Brough Superior, CCM, Ducati, Energica, Harley-Davidson, Herald, Hesketh, Honda, Indian, Kawasaki, KTM, Llexeter, Moto Guzzi, Norton, Piaggio, Royal Enfield, Suzuki, Triumph, Vespa and Yamaha bringing their very latest machines for fans to inspect and ‘throw a leg over’.

Jeff Turner, Marketing Manager at Yamaha Motor UK added, “We’ve had a continual stream of interested potential customers waiting to sit on our 24 bikes, many of them showcasing our accessory line-up. The level of knowledge shown by the visitors is impressive, with many people asking very specific questions about their model of interest. The new MT-10SP and YZF-R6 have been particularly popular and Valentino Rossi’s race bike has seen more selfies than you could shake a selfie stock at!”

Taking over the centre of the show was the Michelin sponsored live action Slide show, which saw world renowned riders John McGuinness, Neil Hodgson, Troy Corser, Chris Walker, Billy McConnell, Mark Lemon and Kevin Doolan go head-to-head in an elbow to elbow battle around the Speedway style course.

There was plenty for race fans to see elsewhere too, with the Suzuki stand hosting a special Barry Sheene tribute, which alongside helmets and leathers featured four of the London hero’s machines – including his 1976 and 1977 title winning machines! MotoGP fans were treated to an explosion of noise on Saturday when Loris Capirossi’s, Carlos Checa’s and Casey Stoner’s Ducati Desmocedici’s were fired up.

British Superbike teams Tyco BMW and FS3 Kawasaki used the show to reveal their 2017 liveries whilst five time British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne, Glenn Irwin, Luke Mossey, James Hillier and Danny Buchan all came to meet and greet fans. Britain’s first ever Dakar winner Sam Sunderland rode into the event through the London traffic on his desert raid winning KTM machine, to the delight of the visiting fans.

Ross Walker, Marketing Co-ordinator at KTM said “It’s been a really strong, exciting show for us, starting with Britain’s only Dakar winner Sam Sunderland making his way through the London traffic to a great reception here at the Show. Our mix of on and off road bikes have had great interest and the timing is great, with 2017 models arriving in dealers. And for the real techies, the new MotoGP bike has attracted massive attention.”

Historic vehicle specialists, Coys, put a huge collection of rare motorcycles and memorabilia under the hammer whilst the fourth London Custom Bike Championship was held over the weekend, with bike builders from across Europe coming to the capital to compete for a prize purse of £10,500. With some stunning motorcycle on display, it was Paul Milbourn who came ‘best in show’ with his titanium Moto Guzzi machine.

Many exhibitors also praised the 2017 show with Rich Austin, owner of Austin Racing said “It’s been a fantastic show for us, easily the best by far and it feels like all the stands have made a big effort. We also got to start one of our bikes each day which was also shown on MCN which gave us massive exposure.”

Rob Aherne Managing Director of Motorcycling at Bauer Media said, “What an incredible show this year has been, and we’ve had more people through the door than ever before. The reaction from our visitors, exhibitors and stars has been amazing, with everyone enjoying the huge range of attractions on offer.”

Sam Sunderland Takes Red Bull KTM Factory Rally Machine for London City Tour

The 2017 Dakar Rally champion, Sam Sunderland, enjoyed a celebratory touristic ride around London yesterday (Friday 17th February) aboard his ultra-special Red Bull KTM 450 FACTORY RALLY machine.

Sunderland, who hails from Poole in Dorset, is the first British winner of the Dakar Rally in any class and following on from his outstanding victory, the 27-year-old racer took a ride around English capital to take in some of the sights.

It was an unusual spectacle with the Red Bull KTM 450 FACTORY RALLY machine being seen in such a busy city, where many fans took pictures as Sam rode around the likes of Canary Wharf, Westminster, across Tower Bridge and past many of the other famous London vistas.

Sunderland’s victory at the Dakar is an incredible one, especially as just over one year ago the Dubai-based Brit broke his femur, and in fact the 2017 edition of the race was the first time the KTM-ace has completed the event. This year the Dakar was ultra-tough with incredibly difficult navigation and weather conditions, as the riders competed over nearly 9,000km through Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina across 12 stages. Sunderland’s victory is the 16th consecutive win for KTM.

Sam’s London city tour was a special experience for the rally racer, as he’s usually more at home with riverbeds, dunes and desert, but today the KTM-star’s ride was completed when he rode into the MCN London Motorcycle Show at the ExCeL exhibition centre, which was broadcast on Facebook Live. Sam will be spending some time meeting fans and signing autographs over the weekend at the event.

Sam Sunderland – 2017 Dakar Rally winner
“It’s been really cool to come back to London and see some British fans that are so passionate about what I’ve done. It makes me feel excited about it, I really enjoy meeting the fans, as it’s very humbling. Today I got to ride my rally bike around London to do some sightseeing like a tourist, and it was quite special as obviously normally the bike is at races like Dakar, in the desert, or on rough terrain. We certainly got quite a lot of looks from people and photos taken. It was a strange, but really cool day, cruising around over Tower Bridge, by Houses of Parliament and so on. It’s been really fun and great to be at home in the UK.”

BMW Motorrad UK brings full 2017 range to MCN London Show

Complete range of 2017 models on display at the Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle Show.

BMW Motorrad UK will have its full line-up of 2017 models on display at the Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle show from 17 to 19 February at the Excel, giving enthusiasts who missed Motorcycle Live a chance to get up close to the new model range.

The reaction to the 2017 model range at Motorcycle Live was overwhelmingly positive, with new additions to the Heritage range proving parituclarly popular. Alongside the Heritage range will be heavily-revised versions of the R 1200 GS, in Rallye and Exclusive variants.

The R nineT Racer and the R nineT Urban G/S will also be at the show, joined by the raw R nineT Pure, all three offering a distinct look and feel. The original R nineT is also set to be on display, featuring changes for Euro 4.

Following its recent press launch in Spain, interest around the R 1200 GS Rallye and Exclusive continues to grow. Both variants build on the already formidable and class-defining R 1200 GS and GS Adventure machines; the two best-selling bikes (over 125cc) in the UK in 2016.

Visitors to the show will be able to get a closer look at the BMW K 1600 GT and LE model also launched in Spain, which received equally glowing reviews from the press.

Upgrades and technical refinements abound in the S 1000 range. The BMW S 1000 RR ended 2016 as the UK’s most-popular supersport bike and continues to top group tests. Perhaps the most notable changes come to the S 1000 R, with a new exhaust, chassis and updated quick-shifter all gracing the now Euro 4-compliant roadster.

Both the lightweight BMW G 310 R and BMW G 310 GS will again be on the stand, the pairing proving extremely popular at previous shows.

The entire F 800 range has been given technical updates with the F 800 RF 800 GS and GS Adventure model along with the F 800 GT tourer, all will be on display at the Excel show.

The ground-breaking BMW C evolution electric scooter range will also be on show in 2017 specification. Both scooters are now an even more attractive prospect thanks to a government OLEV grant amounting to a £1500 discount off the purchase price.

Having revealed their 2017 British Superbike rider line up at Motorcycle Live, the Tyco BMW team are set to show their colours for the new season in London.

BMW Motorrad UK’s National Marketing Manager Scott Grimsdall said: “The London Motorcycle show is another exciting opportunity for us to show the entire 2017 line-up of bikes and for those who missed out on Motorcycle Live it’s another chance to see our new bikes.

“We are incredibly excited about the 2017 model range and with updated versions of popular bikes like the R 1200 GS being joined by the growing Heritage range, we have a wider range of bikes than ever.”

The BMW Motorrad stand is M15.

See latest models in the Suzuki range at MCN London Show

Suzuki is gearing up for this year’s MCN London Motorcycle Show and with no fewer than 13 new models being added to Suzuki’s on-road range in 2017, there’s lots to show.

Taking centre stage will be the recently-launched GSX-R1000R, alongside the GSX-S750 and both the new V-Strom 650XT and V-Strom 1000XT machines – the standard V-Strom 650 will also be on display.

Suzuki’s hotly anticipated GSX-R1000R boasts a completely new engine and chassis, and features technology taken directly from the firm’s GSX-RR MotoGP racer – including a clever variable valve timing system (SR-VVT) never before seen on a production sportsbike.

Also on show will be the new naked GSX-S750 – with the legendary GSX-R-engined machine getting the same three-mode traction control as the bigger GSX-S1000. The GSX-R1000 K5-powered super-naked will also be on display.

Visitors to the show will also see the new Burgman 400, as well as the GSX-S125 and the GSX-R125 – a brand new entry point into Suzuki’s legendary range of sportsbikes for the first time.

The ever-popular SV650 will be displayed with Suzuki’s new Café Sport accessory pack, which includes a headlight cowling, number boards, and sports tuck-roll seat, alongside the revered Hayabusa and iconic GSX-R750.

The imposing Intruder M1800RBZ will also feature, as will the Address scooter, which has proven a hit with London and other city dwellers, thanks to its unrivalled practicality and enviable fuel economy figure of 145mpg*.

In the hands of Jeremy Seewer the RM-Z250 finished second in the 2016 world championship standings, taking countless podium finishes along the way. Suzuki’s MX2 machine will highlight the brand’s race-ready motocross range on its stand at the show.

2017 marks the anniversary of Barry Sheene’s second world title, and the XR14s that took him to championship glory in 1976 and 1977 will form part of Suzuki’s Vintage Parts attendance at the show, alongside the GSX-R750F that was restored at Motorcycle Live in 2015 and the GSX-R1100 that was rebuilt by students at Suzuki’s apprentice centre.

Team Classic Suzuki built its Katana endurance racer at last year’s Motorcycle Live, and will be announcing the rider lineup that it hopes will race to glory at this year’s Endurance Legends event at Donington Park on 6-7 May. The bike will be displayed on the Suzuki stand over the weekend.

Exclusive Barry Sheene Collection Heads to London Motorcycle Show

The 2017 Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle Show will be showcasing a rare collection of memorabilia from British motorcycling hero Barry Sheene next month, including race leathers, helmets, FIM World Championship medals and four of the star’s factory Suzuki’s – including his 1976 and 1977 title winning machines!

London born Barry Sheene who grew up Holborn, is arguably one of the most popular motorcycle racers of all time and the 2017 Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle Show will be honouring the capital’s greatest racer with a special collection of memorabilia spanning his career.

Fans of ‘Bazza’ will be able to see his 1971 Suzuki XR05 TR500, or the ‘Seeley Suzuki’ as it has become known. Raced by the star at the start of his career, he would later claim it to be the best-handling machine he ever rode. Also on display will be the 1979 Works Suzuki XR27, which was raced in the now infamous British Grand Prix at Silverstone where Barry and American Kenny Roberts traded places (and hand signals!) to the very end.

The real highlight however will be the machines the Londoner won his two world titles on. Still the last machines to power a British rider to a premier class title, the 1976 factory Suzuki XR14 and the 1977 XR14A will be pride of place on the display, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with genuine motorcycling history.

Also on display will be his two FIM World Championship medals, his helmet from the 1976 season as well as the one he wore at his appearance at the 2002 Festival of Speed, a set of leathers from 1984 as well as his Festival of Speed leathers.

Race fans will also get a thrill from the free live action display, Slide. Held in the centre of the arena, Slide will see Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness go head-to-head with ex World Superbike Champions Neil Hodgson, Troy Corser, fan favourite Chris Walker and Australian Speedway stars Mark Lemon and Kevin Doolan.

Away from the racing, the show will also be hosting the ‘Harley-Davidson: Battle of the Kings’ UK finale. With fans available to vote for their favourite custom machine online now, the top five will be showcased at the 2017 Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle Show where a panel of ten judges will select the one winner to go through to the world final in November.

Harley-Davidson fans will also want to head over to the Carole Nash stand, where they will be showcasing a custom Harley as well as two bikes from Bonhams Auction House. The team will be on hand for visitors to offer insurance quotes and answer any questions and if they grab a quick selfie with the Carole Nash Crew, they can pick up a complimentary 2017 calendar, which is raising money for the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes. Can’t wait for the show? Click here to find out more.

Rob Aherne Managing Director of Motorcycling at Bauer Media said “Barry Sheene is a true icon of British motorcycling, so we’re incredibly proud to be able to give fans a chance to see this rare collection of memorabilia in his home town. Knox 2017 Preview

Launched in 2014, the revolutionary Knox Layering System has changed the way riders think about – and wear – motorcycle clothing. Instead of attaching armour and insulation to a motorcycle jacket, making it bulky and ill-fitting, Knox turned traditional thinking on its head by developing a system based around layers – base layer for comfort, armoured layer form protection, mid-layer for warmth & outer layer for protection from the elements.  This approach is now becoming mainstream as more & more riders accept it as the ideal solution for bike wear.

Not only does the Knox Layering system make motorcycle clothing better fitting and more comfortable, but thanks to the Dual Fit System, jackets can be adjusted so that they can be worn casually, unlike traditional bike jackets, which become saggy when the armour is removed.

Styled in the company’s London design studio and combining its award-winning protection with other patented technologies, the range has evolved yet further for 2017.

Unveiled at Motorcycle Live last month, the 2017 additions to the Knox Layering Range are generating excitement from new and existing customers, particularly striking a chord with riders looking for a different and more secure way to wear armour, and to those needing a more flexible ‘everyday’ solution to rider wear.

The new Knox Layering Range will officially hit the stores in February 2017, but a selection of the new additions will be on stand at the MCN London Motorcycle Show earlier that month.

In the meantime, check out the video of the Knox 2017 collection for a sneak preview of what’s to come:

Suzuki GSX-R1000 Concept Headlines London Show

The new GSX-R1000 concept model will take centre stage at this year’s MCN London Motorcycle Show, which takes place at the ExCeL centre from 12-14 February.

First unveiled last year at EICMA in Milan, the new GSX-R1000 is all-new. Using technology taken directly from Suzuki’s GSX-RR MotoGP machine, a new engine features variable valve timing, while the new GSX-R also benefits from ABS, traction control, quickshifter, launch control, and multiple power modes. Showa Balance Free suspension is fitted to a new, lightweight frame.

Also unveiled in Milan and on display at the London Motorcycle Show is the new SV650, which is lighter and more powerful than Suzuki’s previous offering in the mid-capacity naked market. The new SV is sportier with sharper steering and a punchy, V-twin engine packed with character. The new VanVan 200 will also feature on Suzuki’s stand.

The full stable of GSX-R machinery for 2016 will be displayed in a mixture of the MotoGP livery and the commemorative 30th anniversary paint scheme, plus the original GSX-R750F that was restored over the course of Motorcycle Live will also be on display. Other models on display from Suzuki’s 2016 model range include the GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F, GSR750, V-Strom 1000 and V-Strom 650XT, Burgman 650 Executive, Hayabusa, Address 110, Inazuma 250F, and the Intruder M1800RBZ.

The Team Classic Suzuki XR69, which is sponsored by Suzuki GB’s Vintage Parts Programme and will be raced by both Michael Dunlop and Lee Johnston at this year’s Classic TT on the Isle of Man, will also feature on the Suzuki stand for the duration of the show.

Suzuki GB Marketing Manager, Rob Cooper, said, “The MCN London Motorcycle Show is always a great opener to our events calendar for the year ahead. The show gets better every year and we’re delighted to be back in 2016. We’re very excited to be bringing the new GSX-R1000 with us to the event this year, after a lot of popularity at Motorcycle Live last year, as well as the new SV650 and VanVan 200 that will join our range this year. The original GSX-R750 and XR69 race bike also add some extra attractions to our stand and really highlight our heritage in inline-four cylinder sports bikes. We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors onto our stand.”

Suzuki can be found on stand M90, and will have information available for all of the bikes on display, as well as on the 0% APR representative finance offer currently available. Suzuki’s current campaign covers almost all of its range, with agreements available for 24 to 48 month terms, depending on the model chosen.

The London Motorcycle Show runs from 12-14 February, 2016, at the ExCeL in London. For further show information visit http://www.mcnmotorcycleshow.com

KTM Capitalises On London Show

New Street range from KTM hits the London Motorcycle Show and 2016 prices announcement

KTM will be in attendance at the MCN London Motorcycle Show on February 12-14 with its latest range of Street models.

In 2016, Europe’s biggest motorcycle manufacturer boasts its most complete and diverse road-going model range to date and these distinctive machines will be on display at the MCN London Motorcycle Show held at the Docklands-based ExCeL exhibition centre for riders to discover more in detail about them.

Beyond simply entering the sports tourer class this year, the new 1290 SUPER DUKE GT (£15,999) will redefine this segment with its incredible levels of performance matched to a comprehensive range of equipment, including cutting-edge riding assistance and safety systems – all fitted as standard. Thanks to intelligent and innovative solutions from semi-active suspension to a quick-shifter, the GT masters the seemingly impossible split between passionate fun riding, comfortable long distance travelling and breath-taking track day use.

The infamous 1290 SUPER DUKE R also shifts up another gear in 2016 with the release of the Special Edition (£14,999). Boasting a unique paint design and dripping with the most desirable options from the official KTM PowerParts collection, including a titanium Akrapovič exhaust, machined anodised triple clamps and wave brake discs, the 1,301cc V-twin ‘Super Naked’ looks sharper than ever for only £1000 more than the standard version.

Also new for this year is the 690 DUKE (£7,699) and DUKE R (£8,999). The world’s most powerful single-cylinder bikes feature new levels of refinement and electronic rider aids. With an engine that is 55% changed from the previous incarnation, the motor offers improved levels of power and torque over a larger powerband delivered with smoothness usually reserved for multi-cylinders. Adding to its class-leading low weight and low running costs, the Duke features leading components by Brembo and WP to be equally at home commuting through town as it is slaying corners on favourite roads or tracks.

Ranging from £10,999 to £16,199, the four-strong Adventure range of 1050 ADVENTURE, 1190 ADVENTURE, 1190 ADVENTURE R and 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE continues to win awards and cement their reputation as true travel enduro machines with the ability to take riders on unforgettable journeys – no matter the distance or road. Despite only a 251cc difference between these models, there’s a huge diversity of performance and specification to match the intended use, rider and affordability.

For young, new or returning riders looking for machines with exhilarating performance, exciting looks and high-end components matched to lightweight and confidence-building chassis, look no further than the 125 DUKE, RC 125, 390 DUKE and RC 390. Designed and developed in Austria and made to the same demanding READY TO RACE commitment as all of its models, these bikes have the ability to put a smile on the face of any rider, no matter their age or experience. Better still, the class-defining RC 125 now costs £300 less than in 2015.

Also at the show, Croydon-based KTM dealer, InMoto, will operate a retail area of the main KTM stand selling clothing and accessory items from the eclectic official PowerWear range.

Billed as ‘the biggest and best motorcycle show in the capital’, the London Motorcycle Show also offers visitors a huge array of other attractions and live action entertainment for a great day out. Discounted tickets are now on sale, with adult advance tickets at £17 available online until midnight 08.02.16. Senior and student tickets cost £15.
